Inrent: dodgey, lies, thieves - avoid at all costs! – Over 4 years ago, we purchased furniture through Fantastic Furniture, under the precedent that we were paying off this furniture through inRent, and at the conclusion of the term - 4 years - we would have paid it off and legally owned the property, with a small pay out figure of whatever is outstanding. Our experience has been one from HELL. In 4… Read more

years, we have NEVER been given a pay out summary, after calling and verbally asking for one, to just be told "we will send it out in the next 48 hours" - never receiving it, and secondly putting it in writing and again, never getting a response.

It is only now, after 4 years, and threats to contact Consumer Affairs Victoria for withholding information, that they have given us a pay out figure. Now, since December 2018, this pay out figure has been changing MONTHLY. We have been recording down ALL our verbal correspondence with these people, and our payments, as each time we have rung, we get the "I'm not sure who told you that amount but it's this..." fiasco. Their communication within themselves as a company, and most importantly, with their consumer is PATHETIC.

I can not cope with this place anymore. We are in the processing of paying out our account to just get rid of this nightmare, for the figures to again be changing - Within 4 days of speaking to them, and getting it all in writing, including names of operators.

We are contacting Consumer Affairs immediately after writing this if they do not hold themselves to their WRITTEN word!

As young adults when we first purchased our package, if we were told of what this actually would entail, we would've rather preferred to have NO furniture than pay an insipid company DOUBLE the price and put up with their garbage and all these fees slapped on top.

In summary, you are simply just 'renting' the goods, paying double what the retail cost is, and even so you still are forced to pay out an extraordinary pay out amount ON TOP of all your repayments.

Avoid at all costs, and do not be reeled in by furniture outlets to use *any* finance company, such as in rent / walker stores pty / rt edwards

FROM START TO FINISH THE BEST EXPERIENCE – I am beyond impressed with the quality of not only the products but the service as well. From the moment I walked into the store I was welcomed. simply amazing, a lot more stores need to take note from these guys on how management should work. I am so lucky to have caught them both in store. I left with a rare feeling of complete confidence in my purchase. My brand spanking new couch and fridge were delivered today by Michael and Tyson. Their services were outstanding. They were kind and cheery for 8am and were prompt in their task. They communicated with us and between each other amazingly and set everything up like true pros. I will DEFINITELY be going back to RT Edwards after this experience I’d be stupid not to and I’d recommend them to anyone and everyone.

Renting 3yrs up now – Help! Old heavy washing machine finally broke down after 10years and one small service. Mrs says but 'we're broke just paid the mortgage and rego, what do we do?' Dada! no prob babe, RT Edwards of course. We went in and got signed up quick n easy when you know what you want. Even if we were rich that week, I think we would probably still done it,… Read more

talk her into it, not always easy, not stupid cupid. We liked the idea of renting for a change as they fix anything that goes wrong whenever and give you [an older] replacement machine in the interim (still works). Monthly charge, only around $38, not bad, didn't really miss it.

After a year had the front electronics window fixed/replaced. Been going ever since, starting to get a little rust on the side from where you put the soap in, but just sanded and painted it for a few dollars. We just had to read the manual properly, like hold down the play button to stop the machine in progress. Door got jammed once and they fixed it, no problem, as I didn't want to break anything. If it was mine, It would have cost a bit to call out a service technician to fix and replace any parts, that's the peace of mind we pay for (smiling Mrs.. and now me). Takes a week or two depending on the problem/parts I guess. It's great when you don't have to pay to get it fixed, smiles all 'round.

Found out later, yep it's cheaper in the long run to buy on credit from places like the Good Guys. But when you're not working at the minute and need something right away, who you gonna call? Yep RT Edwards, come on down! Didn't want a used/second hand machine when you can get a new one. So, can't really complain... We forgot to pay the monthly payment a couple of times and got charged $40 as it went over 7days, der. Not even bothering to get the calculator out anymore.

So, fast forward, we can purchase it now (3yrs) quite cheap around $80 or keep renting it. Similar price for the Beko dryer. Things were cheaper 3yrs ago though and now they have rent to keep. I guess we'll probably buy it, otherwise keep paying for peace of mind, or take the option of upgrading. Well, that might/would happen if it didn't work anymore; depends how much cash is in the bank at the time.

Oh, last thing, always got through to customer service, sometimes busy, but they honoured their agreements continuously, as we did ours, now we are VIPs, thanks RT Edwards and InRent, my kids clothes are always fresh and dry and my Mrs has never complained about that department. We bought the clothes dryer ages ago when the buy period came up, has never let us down, still looks new and running well. Mrs always cleans it out. Can even use the heat hose for drying hair, funny that, at least it doesn't burn my daughters hair. Don't like hair dryers in the bathroom. We hang the hose vent next to the back door so the heat goes outside.

Rule of thumb, do your homework so you don't make a mistake or feel you got ripped off. We paid a bit more, but we were fine as we didn't over commit on our budget, and hey! we made it this far doin' fine; hope that helps.

May 9th 2018 Update: Panasonic 3.5Kw Cool 4.9Kw Heat

Brand: Panasonic Econavi Aircon 3.5Kw Cool 4.9Kw Heat

Cost: $1099 (2014) Rental $58 all up per month including paper fee

Cost of installation paid $600 by Professional Service

Purchased this aircon from RT Edwards over 4yrs now. All I do is clean it regular, and still works fine. A few times it sounded funny, so I turned it off for a while then back on again. So, don't go pushing the on/off button on too quickly or too many times, and don't let the kids play with the damn thing. I blew electrics in the older type 5yrs ago doing that. But I changed to the inverters as they are better and run cheaper. The addition of the aircon costs around $50 per quarter for electricity, not too bad, although energy prices are starting to creep up. Last summer was a scorcher and it had to work hard in my small average room size. Mrs has her own room too, I'm a bit noisy. Lucky I didn't get a smaller one cause I can turn this one down nice and quite. On full blast it can get a bit noisy, so I have to turn up the television to compete. Just cool up then turn down to keep the temp stable; e.g. sitting on 22 or 23.

It's so awesome to have a good nights sleep and feel refreshed in the morning, unless you have sleep apnea, then catch up with some sleep or a nap sitting upright on a single couch. I usually cool up at 19 then turn it up to 21, then 23. It has automatic built in. At night I aim the air away to the side and turn it down if its bearable as it can give you a blocked nose being too cold while your sleeping. It faces the door down the hallway, and I have another facing each other. Sometimes my windows fog up when I forget and fall asleep, I never noticed as I have a blind to block out the sun also. So, I have a nice warm quilt in the winter. I have never had to contact RT Edwards about this product as it is an excellent product and doesn't misbehave like some people I know. Unfortunately, I can't tell you about service difficulties with this product because it is so good. Thanks Panasonic. I bought this one because my brother has one (7.1Kw) and I sit under it all the time when I go over his place.

The thing about renting is that it may cost more but if you need to a repair it, they do it all for you. We do have a rented side by side fridge and washing machine made by Beko from RT Edwards though. They have lasted too, only the washer went in twice for repairs (2015 and 2017) saved on new electronics and jammed door. The fridge got fixed twice (2015 a relay, noisy), tradesman came around. Second time it went in 2017 to their maintenance dept, a noisy relay again and not cooling properly in the heat of last summer. Saved on repairs and parts plus still renting. However, tradies get work and we always receive excellent customer service, pickups and deliveries, plus replacements during the time they were away. The only downfall is that I think their insurance does not replace items when someone else damages them.

So, yes, its cheaper in the long run to buy outfight if you have the dosh or can get it, then get them insured under a household contents policy, which is additional per month. So, you've got, purchase price, electricity and insurance costs involved. Make sure you keep up to date with payments or it will cost you for late fees. So in the Sunshine State I just suck it up, pay up and shut up and forget about it, but that's me lol, I don't wanna talk about the price or scan all details here. All good, they helped me out when I needed it, just enjoying the extra year we signed up. Can buyout or at end for cheap under a hundred bucks I think, or keep renting, too easy. Rentals are near the same plus I think its rent to keep now. Thanks Panasonic & RT Edwards. Hope the info is helpful.
