Poor support service – Watch didn't charge. Very poor support service with replies taking 24+ hours to reply to each email. 3 weeks since purchase still don't have my watch. Show details
Short battery life and inconsistent heart rate monitoring – I purchased the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 to go with my S21 phone after my Fitbit Versa 2 started having problems after several years of use. I was aware from the specification that battery life would not be good - but this watch often does not last 12 hours without needing to be charged. My main issue is that I was used to having consistent… Read more
heart rate monitoring coming from a Fitbit. The Watch 4 during exercise will often take 20-30 minutes to update heart rate despite the setting being set to continuously update. The watch was returned to Samsung customer service who have returned it to me stating they found no issues with the watch. It was an expensive mistake getting this watch - I have purchased a Fitbit Versa 3 and will not be using the Watch 4 again.
Watch bricked after software update and receiving disgusting customer service – Update: Issue was resolved, better late than never. I had a software update last week and the watch bricked and won't turn on after the update. Took it to the service center and they said it was a know manufacturer's fault, they said that Samsung doesn't have parts to repair it as they are on backorder and will take a long time to get that part… Read more · 1
and Samsung will contact you with an alternative resolution. Waited and waited no one contacted me so I had to contact them myself. Got told that there is a case manager assigned to me and he will contact me within 2 days. 3 DAYS later after still no contact I called them and then got told that actually there is no case manager assigned to me yet and I'll just have to be patient. They won't even give me any time frame for repair or replacement or refund. Now it has been over a week and I am still waiting for a response and just called them again, and just got told the same Bull Cr@p that there is still no case manager assigned to me and i'll have to wait even more. I had to lodge a complaint with ACCC, lets see how it goes. Absolutely disgusting customer service samsung, you should be ashamed of yourself.
Poor Battery, NFC never works – I purchased this watch last year and returned due to Battery lasting less than a day. I tried a Garmin which was exceptional but I couldn't adjust to the different user experience. So I sold that and bought another Samsung 4 committing to it. HOPELESS It tells me I have a Messenger Message but I have to check phone to read it ( unlike original… Read more
Galaxy Classic) Samsung Pay has worked only twice so I waste time fumbling then have to pull my phone or card out anyway. I actually miss my Classic watch..I would have hoped that 4th generation would have alot more features. Nope. And Battery life is lucky to last 30 hours.

Issues with the battery which can overheat and cause burns on your wrist – Product Review – Galaxy Watch 46mm Bluetooth SLV Bought 20Feb20 $538 25/1/22 – Dead screen phone shows still connected. Serviced assembly 8/2/20 – Same issue LCD not working Had LCD replaced. 11/1/23 – Watch battery discharging quickly. Had a burn about a week ago. Spoke on customer support service on issue and told to take watch to repair center Harvie Norman. Pm 12th Jan spoke to Customer support again, told it will be escalated. Still no resolution. My concern is that: 1. A serious injury has been caused by the watch overheating. 2. This was not taken as a serious concern by Management of Samsung to have resolved immediately rather than escalate up the tree. 3. It was possible Lithium batteries could explode. 4. The battery was discharging quickly.

Replaced Galaxy active 2 with Galaxy 4 40mm (Step up from older model) – My wife has been running a galaxy active 2 for 3 years – it was an LTE model but battery life was failing and screen resolution deteriorating – looked at the galaxy 5 for bigger battery life and sapphire crystal glass etc. but settled on the galaxy 4 non LTE model 40mm – this was the sweet spot – the galaxy 4 is thinner than the galaxy 5 by about… Read more · 10
3mm (because of larger battery in the 5) and the battery in the 4 is the same capacity as the active 2, but with the new processor operating system (Samsung's Exynos W920 over the older Exynos 9110 and Google’s wear OS over Tizen) the galaxy 4 operates much faster and seems to use less power than the active 2, so battery life is an improvement though jury is still out. Ram in the active 2 and the galaxy 4 are the same (1.5gb, but storage has increased from 4gb on the active 2 to 16gb on the galaxy 4)
The galaxy 4 is definitely non IOS and is built for Android, operating seamlessly with the Samsung phone. Receiving phone calls on the watch is easy and the clarity of voice talking and listening is excellent – no faults at all.
The watch is full of apps, plenty of fitness and health apps (all pair nicely to the Samsung health and wearable apps downloaded from play store – covers steps, ecg, s02, blood pressure, sleep patterns, jogging, swimming etc. etc. Have checked heart rate on BP monitor and it seems pretty close as do the steps (calibrated against another watch which is known to be pretty accurate as a reference – it is also waterproof with the caveat to switch on Water lock mode (which takes about 5 seconds to do) but otherwise IP68 rated for immersion up to 1 metre for up to 30 minutes.
The screen is very, very good, very clear and bright and colourful (30.4mm, circular, super AMOLED (396x396) full colour, “always on” option, Corning Gorilla Glass DX+)) – running it at higher brightness consumes battery life as does leaving on the unused apps and the Wi-Fi when it’s not needed. Previously my wife struggled to get a day’s use on the battery with using it a fair bit, but the galaxy 4 exceeds performance of the active 2 by a fair margin though running Wi-Fi and apps would probably not get to the 2 days advertised – it’s a step up in every way, but if you had a galaxy 4 the step up to a galaxy 5 would be less contrasting – the 5 has the sapphire crystal glass, a bigger battery (making the case thicker) and some additional apps that may be useful, but otherwise we have found the galaxy 4 to be an exceptionally good watch in almost every way.
The 44mm version of the galaxy 4 offers a bigger battery at 361ma with the trade-off being a thicker case.
One thing that is different in the galaxy 4, is that when you load your credit card into Samsung pay, you no longer input the pin number when the card is activated on the screen (when you call up the card first time) but you have to unlock the watch with a pin number – have seen some reviewers criticise the watch for this, but it seems if the watch happens to be off your wrist, every time you want to access the watch for apps, adjust settings or to use the Samsung pay, you have to input the watch pin number – if the watch is on your wrist, you only have to input the pin number once to access the watch settings or Samsung pay and so long as the watch is not removed from your wrist it stays open. It’s not difficult to get used to this and it’s actually a pretty good security feature – nobody can steal your watch, or f you misplace it, use it access your credit card without the pin number, so it actually makes some sense.
All in all, a very good watch that functions very well, very fast with an operating system that it intuitive, functional and closely aligned to the Samsung phone it is paired to. The silicone band also tucks neatly back under the watch band after being fed through the buckle and is neatly out of the way.
This watch is still available but in runout as the galaxy 5 is the newest edition – the 5 builds on the very good galaxy 4 with galaxy 4 still being advertised and available, some at bargain prices!
Pros • Good size watch at 40mm • Band is silicone and very comfortable • Watch is available in 4 colours (Black, Silver purple, green, pink gold) • Google wear operating system improvement over Tizen • Very nice screen, good resolution, super AMOLED display • Pairs and operates nicely to Samsung Android phone • Waterproof to IP68 (1m for up to 30 minutes immersion) for rain, washing etc. and 5ATM when water lock mode on for greater depth and water resistance (see the manual for correct application) Cons • Depending on your expectation battery life may be considered and issue by some (you basically have to charge it once a day) – you can opt for 44mm models with bigger battery (in both galaxy 4 and 5) – I doubt it will run 2 days between charges (at least not running Wi-Fi and apps, just as a watch maybe?) • Some may see having to input the pin to access Samsung Pay a burden – we didn’t, it actually improves security, but some may find it frustrating.
Watch is terrible due to Samsung geo restrictions – Watch doesn’t have most functions as phone was bought in NZ and watch in Australia and for some unknown reason Samsung blocks the watch from linking the Samsung health app with the phone as they are from different regions. This means the watch is basically useless. Show details

Really, really good – Kinda surprised by the average score on here so far. I'm pretty tech-obsessed, so, I don't know, maybe I have too heavy a bias. I've found the Watch 4 to be very good. Good enough in fact that I'm not even tempted by the Watch 5. I get about 1.5 days of charge (raise to wake), which could be better, but isn't terrible. I work from home so I… Read more
suppose that makes it more bearable. The available watch faces and complications are good, if not *quite* as good as the Apple Watch's portrait display allows for, but still very good. The build quality is great, weight is very nice (lighter than Apple Watch but still feels high-quality), the screen is excellent – very sharp and vivid – response to input is excellent, Google Assistant works perfectly, GBoard works well as a gesture-based keyboard, and Samsung's new velcro nylon watch band is almost as good as Apple's (the Apple version is wider, a little softer on the skin, and has a bit of elastication in it). So, overall, I'm extremely happy with it.
Do not purchase – Purchased this watch in January 2022, stopped working in June 2022. Started resetting randomly, issues with charging, and then finally the buttons stopped working. Took the watch to a Samsung service centre who told me that it is unrepairable due to water ingress. The technician reported that the water ingress may have been due to a scratch on the… Read more
edge of the bezel, therefore voiding the warranty..... That's a $400 loss... Apart from this solitary scratch the watch watch in excellent condition. Very similar to other reviews here. This watch was used as my daily wear, nothing else, the scratch was minor and only due to surface contact as the bezel is very pronounced due to the thickness of the face. I should have spent the extra money and purchased the Garmin Fenix. Also, as other reviews have stated, the step count tracker will regularly report ridiculous results, like after a car journey. Buyer beware.
Not the best for what I want, fitness! – I actually made a massive mistake buying this and may actually return it. For what I do, mainly running, it doesn't have the ability to track lap times (or other lap features). Sure you can preset some, but they are very limited and hard to tailor. For instance, if I'm training for a marathon, I need to do a 10 min warm-up, 4x5 min sets of RPE 6-8… Read more
with 90 seconds rest between and 10 min cool down. It doesn't permit all that. A simple feature (like my Suunto) is being able to just manually push a button and the lap records, the a lap time restarts from zero, as does the lap distance (and lap pace if need be). Meanwhile the total duration and distance continues. With options of cadence and average heart rate. Until they take time into making this a fully fledged fitness watch and not just an extension of apps on your phone with a bit of fitness thrown in, I don't think it's worth the money. It currently doesn't reset the time or distance on laps. Additionally, double tapping the screen for lap reset is painful. Especially since the screen goes to sleep alot. You also need to prevent sleeping in workout modes.
Poor Build Quality + Poor Customer Service from Samsung – Galaxy Watch4 purchased Oct-21 screen died - sent to repairer. Response was $588 (more than the cost of the product) to repair, or $88 to reject the repair (is this even legal) - reason a half a millimeter chip allowed liquid in. Product only used in normal day-to-day, but design means you can scratch it easily on things - look up pictures of… Read more
other watches with the same scratches - this poor design resulted in the chip. Samsung repairer position is this voids the warranty. When the chip is the result of poor design and build. Second time having to deal with hostile third party repairer. Choose Garmin or fitbit instead...
After post edit - you'll note Samsung has ignored all negative reviews. they haven't followed up on any email I've sent them. so add poor support to another resaon not to buy
Does the trick – I am a Samsung Galaxy phone user and have been for close to a decade now. While I would love an Apple Watch, they only work with iPhones. The next best thing for us Android owners is the Samsung Galaxy smartwatch. There are a lot of things to like about this watch: - User-friendly user interface - Nice bright screen that works in sunlight - A… Read more
nice array of features such as heart rhythm monitor, blood pressure monitor, blood oxygen monitor and a flew of other health features - It looks like a real watch (if you go for the Classic variant especially)
The one downside is the battery life. It lasts about 24 hours for me, not the quoted battery life on the marketing. That's fine, I put it on charge when I shower and get ready, I find that little charge keeps it going without dying on me.
I don't use any of the features like the Bixby voice recognition and other things that maybe I would consider niche. It's a watch that tracks your health, not controls your security cameras or orders Uber Eats for you.
Overall, it's a great watch that I use to track my steps and water consumption. When I got sick with some virus recently, my heart rate was worryingly high. The doctor recommended a smartwatch which is how I ended up buying this in the first place.

Know better, choose better.
I like the watch but battery – Battery life isn't as good as the older model. But it tracks my activity no problem and I enjoy using the body composition function which i find it to be quite accurate for a small device like this. Overall pretty satisfied with it
Would love to love it ... but – There is so much to get excited about when you get this watch - great display, speedy response, comfortable (slightly fiddly) strap, lots of "health" measurements, etc then there is the reality of living with it The published up to 40 hours of battery life is a total fantasy. Turn on Wifi or use the inbuilt GPS and you will be charging it twice a… Read more
day - yes it is that bad. But it gets worse - I don't turn on Wifi !!! Instead the watch continuously turns it on for absolutely no reason and I only notice because the battery is approaching dead by mid-afternoon.
Those health measurements - there is a reason samsung plaster not to be used for medical purposes all over them ! For the past 3 days my heart rate has been a steady 115 - rock steady - as in the watch stopped taking readings and chooses to display the same random value for 3 days. The spo2 readings often indicate I am dead (72%) which would be upsetting if it was even slightly accurate (and despite the heart rate not working the spo2 levels continue to change).
It often fails to take blood pressure measurements. Surprisingly the ecg does appear to work - but a word of warning - these measurements are only available if the watch is connected to a samsung phone (not an android phone only work with phones offered by samsung)
Detection of workouts is hit and miss (mostly miss) and if in the middle of the workout you get a message then the watch often forgets all about the exercise you were doing. Forget about using the watch GPS in standalone mode, it does not offer assisted gps (fast acquisition) meaning it typically takes over 5 minutes to work out where you are.
Then there are all those useful apps - perhaps my favourite is the maps app - which shows my location with all the streets - but only when I am at home! If I try to use the app even 200m from home I am shown a black screen with a blue dot in the middle - and that perfects sums up the galaxy watch 4.
It falls well short of the promise (especially that 40 hour battery life)
Do Not Buy This Watch! It does not work! – Do not buy this watch! This watch has a fundamental flaw. The watch keeps locking itself even though it remains on my wrist. It requires me to put in my password on the tiny screen 10+ times per day, even though I never removed the watch from my wrist. When the watch locks itself at random times, it does not receive notifications, it does not… Read more
track your health, it stops doing everything a smart watch is supposed to do. In other words, the watch is unusable.
Two steps forward, one step backwards – When I updated my smart phone to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3, Optus were offering the new Galaxy Watch 4 44mm LTE as a bonus gift. So I was happy to update from my 'old' Galaxy watch 3 LTE, at no cost! The LTE versions (as against the BT bluetooth versions) of these watches allow you to receive & make calls, without needing the phone nearby. This… Read more
can be handy when you are out & about & don't want to carry your phone. This can be organised through Optus & Telstra by activating 'Number Sharing'.
The Galaxy Watch 3 was using Samsung's Tizen operating system, which was a well sorted, relatively bug free system. Due to the fact that only Samsung watches used Tizen, the range of third party apps available for download were very limited. Most other brands of Android smart watches use Google's 'Wear' operating system, which has a much larger selection of third party applications available for download. So for the new Galaxy Watch 4, Samsung decided to use the Google Wear OS & worked hand in hand with Google to produce a new version of Wear OS (Ver. 3.0). Wear OS 3.0 combining some Tizen features with the existing Wear OS.
The Galaxy Watch 4 uses a new processor & along with the new OS gives a noticeably snappier experience than my old watch 3. New screens open more quickly & the watch responds to touch inputs & button presses without lag. The downside is, that despite a promised increase in battery life (compared to the watch 3), I am only getting about 2 days of battery life (Always on Display turned on) compared to 3.5 days from my old watch 3. This doesn't concern me personally, as I charge the watch nightly. It could be an annoyance, if you don't charge your watch as often.
I am disappointed by the quality & selection of watch faces on the Wear OS. There is a much better selection & quality of watch faces available for Tizen on the Galaxy Store. Hopefully, some of the designers will migrate to the Wear OS market.
Overall, I am happy with the Galaxy Watch 4 & would recommend it to a new buyer. For someone who already owns a Watch 3 or Active Watch 2, I think I would wait for the Galaxy Watch 5, before upgrading.
Same same, but different (GW/GW3/GW4) – I will start my review by summarising my thoughts about watch 4 (in comparison with galaxy watch/watch 3) as over promised and underwhelmingly delivered. The original galaxy watch and perhaps watch3 (they share most of the hardware) were extremely well designed, surprisingly well functioning with good battery life and limited choice of… Read more
applications. To create a perfect watch Samsung needed to do only 3 things: Modernise health data reading Enhance and modernise software/applications Possibly work on battery life improvement. Although 3 - 4 day battery life was a OK Very surprisingly, instead of perfecting an already good product Samsung teamed up with Google and released Galaxy watch 4 based on Google’s WearOS and making it Tizen look and feel like. Which is an OK idea if execution is right. First impressions about Galaxy Watch 4. ( Positive to negative) Having direct access to Google’s play store with a wider variety of applications available is positively refreshing. Amazing display and fast performance with an occasional hesitation when reading complex health data and other functions triggered at same time. Well integrated with Samsung phones. Wealth of health data (ECG, blood pressure, sleep quality, snoring detection etc) Very poor battery life (1 to 2 days MAX) Some health related functions are not available on non-Samsung phones Some of Google core services are not yet available in the initial release e.g. Google assistant. Considering that the Galaxy watch was first released more than 3 years ago I expected a bit more from Samsung’s Galaxy watch 4. However, to be fair, the release price for GW4 is way lower than both Galaxy watch and Galaxy watch 3 (GW/GW3). In conclusion, would I recommend this watch? Yes and No. Yes, if you are using Samsung mobile, don’t have GW/GW3 or simply (like me) need more health related info from your watch. No, if you need more than 1 day of battery life, don’t have a Samsung phone/don’t need extensive health data and have GW/GW3 already. P.S. Also, unboxing video is here: https://youtu.be/bETRCJL-tq4
This watch is not good – It can keep the time. Heart rate sensor is unreliable and frequently tells me my heart rate is in the 30s. It doesn't matter how you position it, tighten it. Show details
