Caveat Emptor – In September 2022 I purchased 2 new top of the range Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 mobiles. One phone was used by my wife and the other gifted to a relative in Greece. It was noticed my wife’s phone could not connect to the in house Wi-Fi or Bluetooth barely two months outside the prescribed warranty period. The phone was presented to the Samsung… Read more
Cannington business where the wife was targeted as a demented geriatric bunny [76 years old] and curtly advised the warranty had expired and that was the end of the matter. Upon insistence that although the warranty had technically expired she was protected under Australian Consumer Law. The Samsung representative retreated and upon inspection claimed it had been dropped. In layman’s terms it’s referred to as fair wear and tear. Is there a phone in existence where it has not been dropped? In any event 76 year olds are not in the habit of destroying a tool they rely upon for doctor’s appointments, communication with their grandchildren and children. Otherwise the phone was like new. Samsung admit in a text message “Our technicians have assessed your device and have found physical damage and issues stemming from a manufacturers fault” At no stage have I cried poor but do take exception to an incoherent and implausible argument. An amount of $930 was quoted by Samsung to repair the device which included an unnecessary impost for a new cover. The phone was again returned to the Samsung workshop on the 4th February with a fresh issue to do with charge up. To date [24th February] the device remains at the workshop with management refusing to discuss the matter or return the phone. At this stage it’s inevitable the matter will be determined through the legal system. In the meantime the second phone has developed a warranty issue and again Samsung has refused to discuss the matter. Summary While it operated the phone was useful however when a warranty issue transpired it was a nightmare. One has to deal with inexperienced teenage and senior phone salesmen who promote implausible incoherent arguments. Senior management hide and avoid communicating with customers. Best call the bluff and head for the legal remedy which I am advised I can win however it will mean I do not have the use of the phone for an inordinate period of time. Samsung are a ruthless outfit, dishonour product warranties and treat their customers with utter contempt. Stay away. Don’t believe, then scrutinise other reviews to do with Samsung.
Poor product failed after 18 months. Unsatisfactory customer care – The phone was fine for the first 12 months. Then the inner (open when unfolded) screen protector started peeling and that's when it started to become an issue. - Contacted Chermside Samsung store to get the screen protector repaired, they said it was going to take min. 2-3 business days, which was unacceptable for me as I rely heavily on my phone… Read more
for work. My work is important, that's why I can afford paying $2700 for a phone and being without it is not an option.
Then I was told that if I went to their repair centre in Banyo, they may have been able to replace the screen protector on the same day. I called them and they said the screen protectors where out of stock. So I just gave up at that point, keeping the peeling protector on.
- After 18 months, the phone started to have issues with the screen just dying (look up on google an endless amount of reviews about Samsung's "black screen of death"). Which ended up in my phone totally dying within 2-3 days and not turning on anymore.
Samsung store Chermside accepted my phone for repair under warranty, which took 3 business days to be repaired (not bad). I have now been with no personal phone for a week and had to borrow a phone for basic calls and messages.
Then, rather than sending me the repaired phone via mail (as agreed in store), I get a text message today, saying that the phone is ready to pick up at the store, which is 45 minutes from where I live. Obviously something went wrong in the store's communications with the repairer, and the fact that the phone should have been mailed out to my address was overlooked.
The above resulted in a 45 minutes call (waste of time) with the Samsung CS to request the phone to be mailed, and at this stage, no one knows when it will be delivered.
Overall, with consideration of the product's cost ($2700) and how we all rely on phones these days for so many things, including work, but also other essential matters such as banking, proof of ID etc. I am greatly dissatisfied with the product, Samsung's customer care and the inability of Samsung to provide reasonable options to mitigate the disservices and inconveniences that their EXPENSIVE products cause due to the products' own FAULTS.
Now after I will hopefully have the phone back next week, it will be formatted, so I will need to spend half a day setting it up again (further inconvenience). Then, in 6 months' time, the phone will be out of warranty, meaning that when this issue will happen again (a matter of when, not if) it will just be good for scrap. I am now preparing to figure out which phone I will have to purchase next, when the Fold 4 fails again and is out of warranty, but I am sure it will NOT be a Samsung.

Not fully flat and inner screen problem – The phone was good until the hinge is not fully open and the screen protector lift up the screen has a black line and since then the inner screen is not working. email quote me for screen replacement $820 and gave the reason as it was dropped. I refused to pay as I never dropped it and the phone is not fully flat since the first time I get it.
Please consider about the inner screen problem before buy the fold. Almost $3000 you can buy something worth.

Should have minus 100 stars - Never buy Samsung Fold or Flip phones – Do not buy Samsung Fold or flip phones - the inner screen protector will start showing bubbles and will separate from the screen in 6 months time and the paint will start peeling in 5 months time. It is a dud phone - save your money. No point wasting your time sending it to repairs as it will keep happening even after repairs. SAMSUNG PLEASE… Read more
DON'T RESPOND TO HIS REVIEW - Have had enough conversation with your scripted call centre and Damien case manager from Samsung.
Great phone, till the fold crease started peeling off - 11 month review – The Galaxy fold 4 was a great phone, till it wasn't. To break it down - it had excellent performance, good battery life, ability to use multiple windows quite seamlessly, worked well with an S pen, and I was able to use most of the productivity apps well. The fold added a whole new dimension to overall productivity. At the 10.5 month mark, I… Read more
noticed that the fold screen guard (the one that comes installed with the phone, and the one that is not supposed to be removed) started peeling from the top of the crease. I spoke to customer care, who then advised me to bring the phone in. In the three days that it took to bring the phone into them, the guard was peeling quite a bit and the fold was making a sound when folding. They took it in, then had my phone for about 4 weeks, before they told me that it was a "manufacturers error", and that the "part to replace it was unavailable". I was left without a phone for a further 2 weeks from there. Overall - 6 weeks without a phone, no further communication, and this is all despite me having "concierge service" and "Samsung care plus with swap".
Good phone, but if there is a problem with the fold (arguably the selling point), you are dooomed!

Innovative, great phone. Lasted 14 months – Purchased the Fold 4 2022, the phone had great battery life, big bright inner screen and great software to match. Outer screen is too small for typing but good enough for a quick feed scroll. The phone lasted about 14 months before it would randomly shut off when opening the inner screen. Sent the phone for service under warranty, Samsung offered… Read more · 1
a full refund only, no repair or upgrade due to availability they said. Anyway, I have purchased the Fold 5 now, I doubt it will last more than a couple of years.
Rubbish phone – Purchase the phone from Harvey Norman 11 months ago. Phone would not open fully. Returned to place of purchase, sent to samsung. Received a call trying to replace the phone with a reconditioned unit in another colour. Replied I was not happy. Samsung offered my purchase price back. Did not cover the case or extra money paid for screen replacement insurance. There must be a major problem with the phone if they do not have new replacements. Show details
Folding phones are a silly idea – Good battery life, fast and does not get hot. Outperforms my old Pixel 6 pro significantly. Resistance to dust is bad and its not a phone that should go anywhere near a beach. I'm sure the design will improve. Does everything I want though and the narrow front screen is surprisingly useful. First samsung I've had where the proprietary software… Read more
does not interfere.time will tell re the folding mechanism - not convinced it will last. Update and it didn't. Lasted 11 months then screen started losing pixels, screen protector lifted and won't fully open. First and last folding phone

Don't say you weren't warned – My Fold 4 barely lasted 7 months before bricking. When unfolded, it will glitch and screen goes black. Closing it eventually restores the screen after one minute but functionality like Wifi will not work. You then have to soft reset the phone to get it working, but you must keep it folded or it happens again, so effectively you're stuck with a… Read more
phone that has a smaller screen than other smart phones.
Geniuses online say to factory reset it but that did nothing to help the problem - in fact it caused me a lot of stress restoring my Apps. and logins. If you're into burning money, then I highly suggest buying this $3,000 brick they call a smart phone. It's back to Apple products for me. I just hope they make a similar device that unfolds for a bigger screen which was the main selling point of the Fold 4.
-100/10 product and -1,000,000/10 customer service from Samsung.
Love the phone, however – The phone is awesome. I find it highly versatile and it definitely suits my lifestyle. However, after recently sending my phone to the Samsung repair centre for a dead pixel - Samsung lost it. What's worse is they seem completely incapable or unwilling to help. I have contacted them via, phone, email chat support and through there online portal.… Read more
So far, nothing, it is seriously like chasing your tail. The same response each time, we will contact you within 2 business, I wait 2 days, nothing - rinse and repeat. C'mon Samsung, I genuinely love your products, not so much getting screwed over by your customer service.

A great phone but some things to watch out for – I only bought the Z-fold a few days ago so it's a bit early to do a review. It is an impressive but very expensive phone. It's working fine in every respect and as one of our cars doesn't have a built-in screen we found that by using a Samsung wireless charging bracket and Google Maps you get something equivalent to a built-in screen. I do use the… Read more
outer small screen more than I expected which is quite handy. It's bulkier than modern mobiles but not a lot more heavy. It fits fine in my pocket.
However, there are some issues you should be aware of.
1. I didn't buy a protective film for the small outer screen as the guy at JBHiFi advised me to get a dual film (large and small screens) which they did not have in stock. It turns out that Samsung recommends that you don't put a protective film on the large screen so I had to go back to purchase a film for the small screen. This is essential to avoid scratches as the screen is very exposed in your pocket.
2. My previous phone was a Samsung Note 10 which has a nice drawing pen fitting into the phone. It also alerts you when you leave the pen behind. This phone also has a pen (incompatible with the previous pen) but nowhere to store it. I purchased a Samsung case which has provision for a pen, however, the case stops you from using wireless charging on a Samsung charger and you have to swap the pen holder out for the alternative support legs to do the charging. This is very frustrating.
3. I have now had more experience with the phone and I realise how much I miss the incorporated pen on the Note phone. To accommodate the tablet format Samsung has made this phone long and narrow. When I use the smaller outside screen the keyboard is too cramped for my fingers so I mistype. This is not a problem with a wider phone or with easy access to the pen.
4. I was inspired to write this review as the result of a long chat with Samsung support. When I opened the box for the phone a slip came out advising me to invest in Samsung Care. This is really good as it allows you to swap the phone for a new one once a year for 3 years on a monthly subscription of $18 which is expensive. Still, if I had known about it and subscribed for my previous Samsung phone which started playing up before it was 3 years old, the subscription would have saved me a lot of money buying the z-fold.
The Samsung Care web page says you can sign up for the monthly subscription but when you try it only gives you an option for a 2-year subscription for $399. So after a lengthy discussion and several phone calls it turns out that the web page is incorrect and the monthly subscription option is only available at the time of purchase. I was not advised of this option at that time but Samsung pointed me to very detailed terms and conditions which state that I can only take advantage of that option at the time of purchase. Perhaps they want their customers to read the T&Cs before purchasing their products.I don't think it is worthwhile to take the 2-year option as faults are likely to occur in the third year especially in a device with an untried fold
The Samsung Care saga goes on. After several phone calls from Samsung, it appears that contrary to their website the option for 3 years cover at a monthly rate is only available if you order online and if you are trading in an old phone. None of this is mentioned anywhere on their web page and it appears to be a clear case of false advertising. Samsung is advertising a product as being generally available when in fact it is highly restricted in availability. Again they referred me to their terms and conditions. There is not even a footnote saying subject to terms and conditions. They are clearly offering a product on their Australian website which is not available as described. See the screenshot. Can you trust Samsung?

Find out how Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 5G 512GB compares to other Mobile Phones
Know better, choose better.
Inside screen cracked – Had the Fold 4 for two months. Opened the inside screen, and heard a cracking sound. The inside screen has cracked along the crease from top to bottom. Samsung is refusing to replace the phone, saying it is customer-caused damage. Do not buy these phones, they are not reliable and Samsung are terrible to deal with. Show details

Don't buy this phone! Otherwise you can't use any other phones again – I have never been a fan of Samsung. But decided to go with Galaxy Z Fold 4 as I couldn't find any other water-resistant folding models from other brands. This phone has changed my perception of Samsung. Well done Samsung! If you only do browsing, social media and a few emails per week, this phone might not be for you. This phone shines if you need… Read more · 1
to do more complex stuff on your phone. I need to answer around 20 emails per day and work with applications that have complex UIs (such as our accounting software). I would always use my laptop for such tasks, but now I do most of them on my phone. I can do a bit of accounting or write long emails easily on the phone while I'm in the bed. Having said that, this phone is not flawless. The main thing that annoys me is that the screen in folded mode is small. Typing on that screen is not very easy, and you will make more typos than you would on a regular smartphone. I think Samsung should make the screen larger in the folded mode to make this device a perfect phone. Also, the battery life could have been better. I'm always on the phone, and if I don't charge it in the middle of the day, my phone dies at 7 pm.
Samsung's latest Fold blows away the competition – The Galaxy Fold 4 is the latest foldable device released by Samsung. I was previously using a Galaxy Note 9 which I had been my daily driver for 4 years. I'm wouldn't consider myself tech savie but I do enjoy my electronic devices. I have been considering getting a Fold ever since the first one came out. I kept passing on the first 3 Folds given… Read more · 1
that the specs did not meet my overall requirements. The Fold 4 then came out and I kept going to JB Hi Fi to compare and examine it against my Note 9. I think my wife noticed that I was doing all this reading, hesitation and all and so gave me one for Father's Day! One of the things stopping me was the smaller front screen (compared to my Note 9) and I kept justifying the inner screen by using a tablet. But after playing around with it for a day, I was totally blown away. I transferred all my stuff from the Note 9 and took me around a day to set it up the way I want it to work. I use it with Nova Launcher + KLWP (Live Wallpaper) with the present Audiophile. The outer screen is perfect for quick glances at the widgets for weather, agenda and the calendar. I have no difficulties in typing messages/emails despite other people having some complaints. The fingerprint scanner is blazingly fast, the stereo speakers sound fantastic. Opening up into the inner screen, I use it for reading my books, PDFs, magazines and cookbooks. Watching videos is great even compared to the tablet I was previously using. I'm not a gamer but I did try playing Call of Duty and the phone handled it with ease. Cameras are fantastic both for vids and pictures. I bought a Fold Edition S Pen from eBay for $25. Using that, it just opened up a whole bunch of possibilities into what the phone can do. My ever faithful Note 9 will now take a break and be my back-up phone. After using the Fold for 2 weeks now, I can't see myself going back to a slab phone.
