Cheap interior – The plastic door from cool drawer broke during the first years of owning it. The support of the vegetable drawer started chipping and the drawer is impossible to get in and out without actually picking it up. The biggest issue started at 8 years of ownership. Still hasn't resolved trying to figureif it's wiser to repair or buy a new one. The… Read more
freezer isn't working enough. It keeps food frozen but won't freeze iceblocks. The ice melts (like a constant auto defrosting, leaks in the fridge, part of it freezes and blocks the drain and the rest becomes ice at the bottom of the freeer that ends up acting mostly like an esky. I've brought a technician to check it. Unblocked the drain. Cleaned it. Worked fine for a couple of weeks until the same issue occured. Quiet dissapointed from Samsung. I always felt that this kind of electrical appliances should last over 10 years. Maybe I'm spoiled from other brands. I won't get a Samsung Fridge again.
Works well, but plastic parts don't stand up to much – We bought this fridge a year and a half ago. It was good value for a fridge of this capacity from a leading brand. It has not let us down in cooling, but we've had a few of the plastic shelves break. The vegetable drawer broke through regular use, and only opens when the door is about as open as it will go. Samsung sent us a replacement through… Read more
warranty claim. The sliding plastic drawer at the top had parts break off when it was taken out for cleaning. In an ideal world, nobody would drop that part, but we don't live in an ideal world, so the material should be able to stand up to at least a little bit of impact.
Overall, while I am satisfied with the value for money, I expected Samsung to use better materials. The parts that broke were made of thin, brittle plastic I'd expect more from a company like Haier.
Samsung Refrigerator - couldn't be better! – Have had my Samsung for 18 months and love it. My refrigerator is quiet, keeps things perfectly and is everything we want in a refrigerator. We are a Samsung household.
Reasonable purchase – Bought it in early 2015, a bit loud at times as we placed its pretty close to the TV so it's pretty annoying. The unit is pretty easy to clean and pretty energy effective. My other complain would probably be the build seems pretty cheap with the plastic handle and interiors. Other than that it's pretty good for its price point Show details
Perfect Product – We bought this Fridge more than a year ago and this works perfect. The best thing is it makes very very less noise. I am extremely happy with this product. Although this is now discontinued but i hope new model will also be more or less similar. Show details
Perfect, outstanding for the price – Was a little loud when new until it found it's temp. Then not one single problem. Absolutely fantastic little fridge. I guess most of these bad reviewers must have kids or treat their fridge like it owes them money? Treat it with care and it won't break. Temp in both fridge and freezer is FLAWLESS. Show details
Please dont buy – I bought this 3yrs ago and have had to get two new crisper tray's , they crack on the seams. I found that I was getting water into the fridge ??? Called Samsung and got a reference number, and the royal run around ( I will make sure that we find out what the problem is ???? never got back to me . Now I have found that were the fruit box is the… Read more
side wall is cracking and breaking off leaving only the insulation . I can honestly say I wont buy anything Samsung again.
Second failure in less then 2 years – Bought Samsung 280 L for our holiday home in October 2014. In April 2015 found freezer freezing up and making noise. Seller replaced fridge with new fridge same model Approx 12 months lafter with new replaced fridge the freezer section does not properly freeze on a day of moderate temperature it took more than 24 to freeze ice blocks also all… Read more
our food in freezer had to be thrown out.
Rang seller very helpful and gave us details for service support however as the house is in the country finding it difficult to arrange
Rang service support and asked them to take fridge away don't want it. Advised that I shall just buy another fridge
Have been satisfied with other samsung products but not this one. Wouldn't touch there products again
Not great for small apartments – Bought new fridge earlier this week, and poor design prevents me from giving a higher rating. The fridge is quiet, but only once it reaches the desired temperature. If you open the fridge, it will kick in again to maintain the temperature and that's when the sides get hot to touch (so hot that the kitchen feels like the oven is on). The doors do… Read more
not open past 90 degrees (is this common these days?), making navigating in small kitchens extra difficult. There is also an excess of plastic shelves and compartments in the fridge itself (with a noticeable strong plastic smell that is still around after a week's use). I can't place 2 litre milk or coke bottles anywhere but in the door, as the internal shelving does not allow anything tall to be stored there. And the extra large crisper is cumbersome, would have been better served with 2 smaller bins. The supplied operating manual is filled with typos and poor English translations (I would have expected Samsung to at least proofread it), and the 20 pages of warnings/safety instructions are more to cover themselves against insurance & warranty claims, instead of providing useful operating advice to consumers. There are better units out there, wish I'd shopped around more.
Mixed feelings about this fridge - strong chemical odour – We've only had the fridge for two days. We needed to replace our old fridge quickly. We were limited by the size of the fridge cavity in our kitchen and were looking for a fridge that would fit but also give us as much storage space as possible. Pros - interior is well designed to maximise use of space. - cools nicely. - is reasonably… Read more
quiet.
- good customer support from The Good Guys.
Cons
- when it arrived there was an overwhelming plastic/chemical smell in both the fridge and freezer. It was extremely unpleasant and gave me a headache. I've wiped it out and placed multiple plates of bicarb inside. The smell is fading but it's still prominent and I have another headache.
- Samsung customer support is extremely poor. So much so that I would hesitate to purchase they're brand again.
I've followed up with Samsung and The Good Guys. To cut a long story short, if you are sensitive to plastic/chemical odours then this is something you need to look into no matter what brand/model of fridge you purchase. Some will tell you it's normal, but I have spoken to others who have recently purchased new fridges and none of them had this smell. I could find nothing online, so not sure if it's just this particular fridge or if it's normal for all fridges but wanted to mention this in case other have the same problem.
I'd be interested to know if other owners of this model of fridge noticed a similar odour.
Good for budget living but don't expect too much – It has been serving us for 5 years. Then last year it started to shut down the freezer few times by itself. And last month, it started to shut down itself completely and I need to restart the whole thing manually. The price was reasonable and the look was stylish. But I would have expected a fridge to work for at least 8 years. Therefore, I rated Samsung fridge not that reliable.
Excellent medium sized fridge! – Sized right for the space we had, this fridge is quiet, efficient and easy to clean. Luxury sized for two people, it has room for the wine cask as well as all the necessities. I like the twist, easy-release ice tray and the ample storage in the door. Adjustable glass shelves, of course. You won't be bulk buying meat but the freezer compartment will fit a 4 litre icecream and lots of other "emergency" foods.
Great fridge for the price – I bought this fridge because it was cheap (730 dollars) and fit the small space in my new house. I read these poor reviews before it was delivered and felt like cancelling the order. I'm glad I didn't as it is going very well at moment. It is very quiet (I was worried about noise from reading the reviews but it's much quieter than my old fridge) … Read more
and cooks and freezes fine. The plastic does seem quite thin so maybe I will have trouble down the track but for now it seems perfect.
Find out how Samsung SR392MW / SR393MLS compares to other Top Mount Fridges / Refrigerators
Know better, choose better.
Great Fridge – After having a nightmare with a LG fridge, I bought this Samsung 393L Top Mount Refrigerator (Inverter technology) one year ago. The first couple of months I was opening the door everyday to check if it was really working. It is very silent, great for a small house. Good space, cools kick. After an year I cannot complain at all. The only negative could be that it does not have light in the freezer, just to find a negative.
Terrible shelving – Bottom shelf fell apart so brittle. The cost of a replacement shelf is over $100. Second shelf now cracked . Rigged up wire baskets and hooks but this week the crisper has started to crack and is now useless. I am looking at fridges but not Samsung. The plastic door shelves are brittle/flimsy in all models that I have looked at, given a litre of milk or juice weighs about 1kg the shelves are not fit for purpose.
Can't fault it after 7 months – I bought the fridge 7 months ago after moving into a new unit that had a narrow fridge space than before. Got the Samsung as I wanted a stainless steel look, and came at a good price. Since plugging it in, I've basically forgotten about having bought the fridge, as it works perfectly well. I can't believe 8 reviewers gave it 1 out of 5 stars. I… Read more
must be really really lucky or something, but in my life time I've never had a fridge problem, and I've owned a few brands including Fisher/Paykel and Omega, and I don't expect to with this one.
Brought it home today. Doesn't work at all – After 12 hours fridge and freezer still haven't cooled. Frozen ice bricks (taken out of old fridge), I put in the freezer have thawed. It's on the highest setting! The only thing that works is the light. Purchased this fridge as it had a great star rating and we wanted to down size from our big old 500l. It's going back to Bing Lee. Have contacted… Read more
Bing Lee. They are happily going to replace it. If the new one works well I'll give it a better review
Poor quality internal plastics and don't buy the Product Care extended warranty...its useless for th – Fresh room tray brittle and cracked after a year and a half. We had purchased, encouraged by Harvey Norman, a product care extended warranty. Seems they don't cover it, Samsung don't cover it and the fridge is useless without it. Our experience is that the internal plastics are poor quality to start with. Disappointed. Don;t buy this or an extended warranty.
Terrible – Don't buy a samsung fridge. this is making noise for 45 minutes per hour, day and night, struggles to maintain temperature, is a total pain. vibration, buzzing, whines. Like the others who have brought this model, now struggling to get a refund. Their service guy refused to do anything about it, but make my words, samsung will be made to follow consumer law this time.
if only I had know it was a noisy fridge – This year I brought the Samsung SR392MW fridge in white. Straight away it was making a VERY loud vibrating sound every 2 hours or so. I rang Joyce Mayne who said I have to deal with Samsung (who were very professional and can not fault) to have someone sent out to look at it. after 3 visits and having the compressor replaced, Then it made… Read more
REALLY weird sounds.
so after 4 or so months I get a replacement.
This one is a lot better but its still VERY noisy for a new fridge, so I suggest if you have the living area or bedroom near the kitchen do not buy this fridge.
I hope this helps with your decision. nice looking and easy to pull handle VERY, VERY loud humming and makes lots of strange noises. you can hear all theses even when the TV is on..
Product defective after 2 weeks – We bought a brand new fridge from good guys worked well for 2 weeks, then the fridge wasn't cooling enough after then. Observe further for another week and still the same. Called Samsung and was able to get a sched with service centre after a week. Service came and was advised that the defrosting wasn't working and they will order the parts for… Read more
replacement and will take about 1-2 week and only then we can schedule. Called Samsung and advised I want a replacement as it was brand new when I bought and it was a problem with their quality control on why it even went out to the market, they should have checked it properly. Now I have to wait for another 7-10 working days for the case manager to investigate further if it will be replaced while my food gets spoilt. Poor quality and poor service!!!!
Poor quality control as defective after 2 weeks; not cooling properly
THE NOISE!! – I haven't slept since I purchased it , its like a turbine engine!! I specifically told the salesman I wanted quiet and reviews I read said this was noisy but he assured me the digital inverter made it quiet..........what a lie..........I should have listened to reviews...Bad choice. I'm going to try and get a refund. Nothing. Noisy, bad layout eg. large bottles or containers just dont fit anywhere!
Fan sounds like a small siren going off – I bought the SR393 MLS to save electricity. Unfortunately in the showroom the fridges are not turned on so you have no idea what they sound like. This fridge is not only noisy but has a high pitched whine which is really annoying. I complained to Samsung and they suggested a service call from their recommended repairer. Unfortunately for me, if… Read more
the service call is unwarranted then I have to pay the repairer $110.00, call out fee.
. I know what is making the high pitched whine. It is the fan in the freezer department. It stops when you open the bottom door. I believe it is a cost cutting design fault.
Purchased 5 July 2013 from The Good Guys Geelong
agree, it whines

Fridge was replaced after a week. New one working fine. Lovely and cold. No issues with noise. Very quiet
