Very poor steel and very poor customer service – These blades chip extremely easily, under a strong magnifying glass you can see that the steel has contaminate's in it that cause weak spots along the cutting edge. Scanpan tells me that it is because of the dishwasher, I don't have a dishwasher, but they refuse to budge. I am pleased to see that I'm not the only one with Scanpan problems. Show details

Owned these knives since 08/21... still in fantastic shape! – I was a lucky boy and received these Scanpan Classic knives (20cm Cook's Knife, 18cm Santoku Knife, 15cm Utility Knife, 11.5cm Vegetable Knife, 9cm Paring Knife) as a birthday gift in August 2021, along with the Scanpan 3-stage pull-through knife sharpener. They were supplied by kitchenwarehouse.com.au. at a significant discount off RRP. These… Read more · 1
knives are really good for the price, provided they are treated with care and properly maintained. I worked in commercial/fine-dining kitchens for several years back in my younger days. I've had a chance to use Global, Wusthof, Victorinox, Mundial, and several other brands of pro-grade chef's knives, and I can confidently state that these Scanpan Classic knives are a worthwhile value-for-money purchase for anyone's kitchen. However, they need to be treated like the high quality tools that they are. They will not happily tolerate being put through the dishwasher, or left lying in a sink full of dirty dishwater overnight, or left with highly acidic food residue on the blades while you eat your meal. You'll ruin them that way, first you'll get water spots/stains which will eventually turn into rust spots. If you let them get to that point, they probably won't hold an edge for longer than a few uses and will continue to degrade over time, as any knife would.
As long as you clean them promptly after each use and ensure they're nice and dry before putting them back in the block or up on the knife strip, they will last you for years and years. (Note that the damage to the heel of the paring knife blade in the attached photos was entirely due to my own clumsiness, I somehow managed to crush the blade against something at some point. I'm sure the edge will clean up just fine with a sharpening stone.)
These are great knives, well-made from high quality materials and very comfortable to handle and use. Having nice knives like these readily to hand whenever you want to cook something can really make the whole process much more enjoyable. Highly recommended for any enthusiastic cook.
Junk..brand name junk ! – These knives are badly constructed. Steel is typical mid range kitchen knife steel can chip easily. The problem is the tang and handle connection. The photo shows the handle pins are fake and serve no purpose as they do not penetrate the tang because the tang is too short and not drilled for the pins. This is not only incorrect but could be potentially dangerous. So don't chop with them or apply too much down force. Show details

Do NOT buy! – I needed a set of knives that actually cut, looked good, were durable. After looking at many different sets I settled on Scanpan. Huge mistake! Yes, they're sharp but are, after just a couple of months, starting to rust. One knife is covered in spits of rust. I contacted the dealer who, in turn, contacted the supplier. The supplier is confident… Read more
that I have not maintained the knives appropriately. In fact, they are washed and dried immediately after use. Very disappointing and I definitely advise against purchasing these knives.

Beautiful craftsmanship and a pleasure to use – Firstly, I'd like to say my whole kitchen is Scanpan as this is a great product and I've had them for about six years now with only one issue ever. However, I'd like to address some of the negative comments. These are made from carbon steel. All good knives are made of carbon steel, but they need to be looked after and used properly. Every butcher… Read more
uses carbon steel knives. Why? Because they stay sharper for longer and they can be sharpened to a much higher standard.
Firstly: NEVER EVER drop them or use them to lever something open. My son did this on one of our new knives and broke the tip off. I ground the tip back and re-sharpened it. It's perfect again. This has been the only issue with them. Never did that again.
Secondly: Carbon steel can chip. It's not stainless steel. Never ever put them in the dishwasher, they will chip or go dull very quickly, at the least. They are meant to be hand washed and dried immediately afterwards.
If you follow the above instructions you will only need to sharpen them once a year to keep a razor sharp edge on them. As for the bread knife. Six years on and it's as sharp and as good as the day we bought it.
Those with the negative comments should stick to their plastic knives. It's safer for the rest of us.
Best frypan ever – For Christmas I got 28cm frypan. It is hands down the best to cook with and clean. I hand wash with a bamboo sponge and only use non stick utensils for that longer life and no scratches. Will purchase another larger one and have thrown out all my old pans as scanpan is worth the cost Show details
Professional after sales service – My original knife set (black) was a bit of a disappointment when bits of paint were being left on items like cheese etc. I commend their customer service, I submitted my concern via their website and today I received a replacement set - no bother and no trouble. Thank you. Fantastic after sales service Show details

Thought Others Must be Abusing Them – I had my previous knives for around 30 years so it was time for an upgrade. I also wanted a knife block. Was looking at Mundials but the Scan Pan block one me over and the knives looked nice. I had read some negative reviews about blades breaking but I assumes people were just treating them badly, went ahead and purchased, fortunately not at the… Read more
rrp of over $400!
Out of the box razor sharp. I did find the smooth plastic handles slippery and parring knife not shaped to my liking but you can't win them all. A few months after purchase I could swear a couple of blades looked a but skewed. Thought I must be imagining it. Then I was cutting carrots, the handle twisted in my hand, and the blade was bent at 20 degrees with a clear crease near the handle. there was no great force involved. Bent it back with heart in mouth but it will now be even weaker so only matter of time before it recurs. I am trying to find my receipt.
Given previous reviews and my experience the design or materials in these knives is faulty. Do not buy.
Would Have Returned – We have Scanpan knives and they are brilliant. These are ok at the best - sharp blades but plastic handles (wasn’t mentioned in details) and the scissors broke the first time we used them. Would have returned if my partner hadn’t thrown away the box. Show details
bad service from scanpan – bought the whole knife set went to cut my dog,s treat up with the large knife and a big piece of the blade chipped out and they won,t replace it will never buy scanpan again Show details

Waste of money! – Purchased the Classic Cleaver 16cm and what a huge disappointment that was. Looks great, however the performance is a huge letdown. It's advertised as being able to "chop through beef, lamb, pork or poultry like a professional". What it doesn't say is the blade will chip when chopping up a whole chicken. Extremely disappointed. Very disappointing – Last year, I dropped my bread knife and the blade broke in half. The knife was replaced under warranty, no problems. Today the vege knife snapped off at the top! Show details
Don't buy them. Not worth a cent! – Paid good money for these Scanpan knives as I thought I could trust a well-known brand. Wrong! Within a couple of months the blades started rusting, chipping and wearing away. Even the serrated knife that I've barely used is now missing whole sections of serration. I have now gone back to my trusty old Mundials that I was using before I "upgraded"… Read more
to the pretty Scanpan knives. A complete waste of money. I will NEVER buy from the Scanpan brand again. In fact I'm considering making my first ever consumer affairs complaint. These knives should not be allowed on the market.

Disappointment – The blade of the paring knife bent more and more under normal use. My wife tried to straighten it up by hand, and the blade broke in half. Oh, what a quality. Any replacement option? Show details
Poor quality steel – I bought a set of Scanpan knives based on their supposed quality, however I've found the quality of the steel to be very poor. The steel is quite brittle, as evidenced by one knife snapping at the handle when dropped on the floor, and another snapping at the handle when crushing garlic! Looking at the steel, it's quite granular which I guess… Read more
makes it susceptible to such breakage.
I'll be looking into the quality and manufacture of my next set of knives before my next purchase, as I'd expect my knives to stand up better to being dropped on the floor!
Edge quality – The edge of the knives has chips all the way along. Visible to the eye and felt on finger nail. Im thinking porous metal but I could be wrong. Not that old either. Not abused. Sincerely Phil Shepparton Show details
short live span – Returning my second roaster now. After getting a the replacement only 1 year ago. the coating gets bobbles, has a manufacturing fault . I must admit they have not made any problems so far returning it and sending me a new one. Buts for the high price its not worth it Show details
Not the best Knife set ive owned – These knives are very hard to sharpen and keep sharp. I have owned a cheaper set for the last 30 years and havent had any troublke sharping them or keeping them sharp. This set is not worth the money. I also purchased a set of expensive ran knives which out perform the scanpan by far. Looks like ill be using them more often. Show details
Wouldn't buy again – Have had these knives for about 7 years. The only knife that hasn't had the end break off is the bread knife. All of the knives have rust marks on them. They also require sharpening every second use. Show details
Brittle and dangerous – Bought a complete Block of Scan Pan Classic knives. Within 1 year two had broken at the handle one cutting my hand on the way down. Just waiting for the rest to go. Warranty replaced them but they keep on snapping at the handle. Have thrown them in the bin as our fingers are too valuable. Got some Global today. Hopefully better. Show details
Exceptional value for money – These are by far the best value for money. I own global, wusthof, hencke and shun.Of course the scanpan are not ad good as those. Sharp, and durable. Excellent value for money. Of course they aren't as good as my other knives, but they are a third of the price. Show details
Very disappointing – Bought these as I have scanpan pots and pans. The knives did not remain sharp for long and three knives sharpeners later - they are still not as good as my set of Zwilling knives. I wanted scanoan knives to match my pots but they have disappointed. Not sure of the exact date of purchase. Show details

Disappointed – Rust spots on the knives, and the block now looks terrible. The grey coating on the sides of the block is peeling away making it look very shabby. Not happy with my purchase although I do love the scissors that come apart for easy cleaning. Show details
SCAN PAN CLASSIC KNIFE BLOCK – Worse knives ever. They have rust marks on and the scissors have now just broken after the set had already been replaced by Scanpan. I thought Scanpan were of high quality but I was mistaken. These are total crap buy a better quality brand, Very disappointed. Even the silver bit on the front of the knife block now has rust on it. Heard they were great but....no! – I heard good things about Scanpan. Bought an expensive knife set and within a year 2 knives have broken from handles. I have a much cheaper set and they have lasted over 10 years and are still going strong. Definetly not worth the money!
Good quality – I found these knives to be awesome, so sharp and strongly made. The only thing I have an issue with is some of mine have rusted slightly, but maybe that's because I'm not drying them off properly. I still love them though.
Brittle. Avoid – The tip of the small paring knife snapped, then the 6" knife snapped near the handle when dropped on the floor. Too brittle for everyday use. Buy a different brand.
Still excited to use it each night after three months of owning it – The best knife ever , Cuts through everything with ease cuts time off my prepping time couldnt be happier. I like a bit of weight behind my knives with new Japanese ones feeling flimsy this is perfect and sturdy for anyone to use
Very competent knives – As a bit of a knife tragic, I added a Scanpan 3" Paring & A 6" Utility to my collection which includes Wusthof, Fiskars, Mundial, Prestige and my favourites David Mellor. The Scanpan knives are holding their own in this company and I am not experiencing the problems mentioned by others. Given that I got 'em on special for around $20 each, they… Read more
represent very good buying. Importantly, these two practical knives are now the ones I reach for first for general duties.
Very sharp knife and a great sharpener – Been looking for a good knife for a while and found this one in a box set with a 3 stage sharpener. The knife is great, super sharp with a nice weight to it. And the sharpener has made some of our other knives much better too. Great buy. Well worth it.
Scan Pan Knives Very Poor Quality – I was given a very expensive set of Scan Pan Classic knives as a Christmas gift. I love good knives and have had the same Felix Solingen utility knife for forty years, it is getting a little worn so the gift of new knives was very much appreciated. BUT, my joy crumbled like the brittle, poor quality steel used to manufacture the Scanpan knife set.… Read more
These knives chip! I have never chipped a knife - until now. If not washed and dried immediately rust spots form - if they are stainless how can that happen? These knives I have had six months and already they are in worse state than my forty year old knife. I would like to say you get what you pay for these days, but these are grossly overpriced rubbish - get a good German knife is my advice.
I guess advertising got the best of me – I bought the knifes as from Myer and paid close to $400.00. I only started using them just over a year ago and already they've got very large chips. I even bought the wooden scanpan chopping board to make sure i protected the blade! Will be getting some Global knives next i think... such a waste of money
Chipping Knives – Brought a set of Scanpan knives along with the Scanpan pull through sharpener, they started off ok and had a good weight. I looked after the knives well and used the sharpener as directed, did notice after a little while chips forming along the cutting edge, these got worse and worse added to that the tips broke on 2 of the knives, 6 months on… Read more
and they are nothing more than scrap metal. Unfortunately I lost the receipt so had no come back from the store, when I took them in to replace them there was another man at the counter and he said his did exactly the same and he threw them out as well. Time to go buy a decent knife!
Poor quality steel
ScanPan 6" - 8" knife review – I am totally with Luke. I bought some knifes a year ago, and the 1st while they were nice - until they needed sharpening. They do not sharpen well at all. Compared to another similar set of knives, these knives are made from unacceptable soft steel and poorly formed steel. The main cutting area 2/3 way along the blade dulls very easily and of… Read more
course it stands that if you use a hard cutting surface versus a soft it will dull quicker - totally agree with the common logic presented by Vaughan. My issue with the knives its when I sharpen the blade it is not only very often; but it chips away creating a serrated edge. Sorry, but the metal used by ScanPan in its 6" and 8" is soft and of poor construct. I do not recommend ScanPan knives, I recommend ensuring you purchase a hardened or treat steel knife.
