On 4 December 2022, SGIC made the transition to become NRMA Insurance in South Australia.
New Caravan Insurance from existing policy – I have had insurance for my caravans for fifteen years and I’m in the process of purchasing a new van. On selling my existing van and ringing up to cancel my existing policy I was informed that if I reinsured the new van within two months I would not loose any of my No Claim Bonus which is 65% and 10% Loyalty Discount. Having my new Van arriving… Read more · 3
I rang up firstly speaking to some one in the Phillipines. On ringing again I then spoke to someone in Perth who informed me that since NRMA has now taken over SGIC they no longer offer the No Claim Bonus, a complete turn around from what I was told previously. Having never had a Claim on my policies I feel I have been given a rough deal and being unable to contact anyone from SGIC in Adelaide to get an explanation. I would appreciate a call from SGIC JOHN
Gone downhill since NRMA switch – I have all my insurance products both business and private with SGIC and now since the change over the NRMA they are horrible to deal with. I use to call SGIC and speak with a local person with very minimal wait times on hold. Now its half an hour on hold to be told I cant help you and being transferred to another person who after waiting another… Read more
20 minutes also told me they couldn't help me and had to transfer me again.
When I finally spoke with a person who could help me, because they inistaed a claim against my wifes car instead of mine they cancelled the claim and put me back in the queue to speak with another rep who could initiate the claim for the correct vehicle. After a further 25 mins on hold I I could hang on any longer.
So over an hour to not actually solve the problem.
Thanks and good bye NRMA you have lost a customer today

Dodgy- Welland Crash repair – I had my car repaired by Welland crash repair. The repair is not to my satisfaction as both side of the bumper bar join did not align and the gap is inconsistence(Gap on one side is very tight and other is wider. Photo attached). I've told the repairer but they failed to rectify the problem after a few attempts. They said they will contact SGIC… Read more · 5
if they can approve further repair. The manager ([Name Removed]) inspected my car a few days afterward. He claims that the gap is there before accident and they would not approve repair on them. He even show me photo before repair but at an angle where it show the gap on one side but not the other side. If the inconsistency were there before repair. The repairer would report this to assessor for repair. We both found there's mark on the tight side of gap that there're sign repairer trying to force bumper into place(He did not comments). He then look underneath my car to look for a way out of my claim. I've driven this car since new and a month after accident(Waiting for parts). I know where's the imperfection. I'm not the at fault driver and I get comprehensive insurance is to have a peace of mind . I'm a customer of SGIC but I don't feel I've been look after. The repairer said the gap is industry standard and SGIC just want to dodge. I felt like my insurance company is not working for me. (Please read to the end as culprit is the crash repairer)

Good and fast resolution of claim – I could not lodge my first claim online as the website was down so I rang them. The person who assisted me was helpful and polite. He booked me for same day assessment at a repair shop close to my residence. However when I arrived at my appointment there wasn't any booking made for me. I had to ring SGIC again and was able to have the car assessed. Repair was booked and I got the car back on time. Show details · 1

Good resolution of claim – I damaged my car in an accident. I lodged a claim online, and called the next day to follow up. I was told to get a quote for the repair which I arranged, and the quote was approved within 24 hours. Now I have my car booked in for service. Could not have been easier. Show details · 1

Poor Repair -- issues after twice with repairer – Poor customer service/claim. Repairs were poorly done and when I tried cancelling customer service guy did not back date. Any issues with claims/service please raise complains with AFCA, without their help SGIC/NRMA will never assist wisely. Complain with AFCA to resolve issues. What $ amount is MARKET VALUE – Reived my car Ins as it is up for renewal, noticed it is Ins for market value, thought I would see what agreed value would be and compare the 2. She transferred me to an assessor, I got the same answer, I tried on the chat line to clarify this, told to look in my policy, NOTHING there. Wish i could give zero – After being with SGIC for a decade or more and never making a single claim, i decided to look around for some cheaper insurance, which i found at Apia. cents, which automatically came out of my account. I had expected a small refund, as when i cancelled my two other cars at Allianz i received about $50 refund. If i pay insurance at the beginning of the month and i cancel in the middle of the month, as i did for my home/contents, then it's logical to get a refund, just like Allianz. Next year i know i won't be asking for a quote from SGIC, NRMA or whoever they are. I'll certainly try Allianz again at they have been good in the past. PS: in a phone conversation i was told i would get $9 back. I know it's not worth complaining over such a small amount but some companies will get out of paying anything they can.

Avoid SGIC if you ever want to get your claim fulfilled – While they got on with organising the repair of my car, when it came to getting the cost of the hire car reimbursed, which was part of the insurance I pay for, I spent 3 hours on the phone trying to get it done. with her insurance company, they said would supply a hire car and when I was putting through claim they then advise I have to pay for hire car. What is point of having fully comprehensive insurance if you don't get things fixed or have to deal with very thing your self.

They'll take your premium efficiently but just make sure you never have to deal with them again! – Firstly, apart from the initial SA-based sales team if you ever have to make a claim you will be dealing with an overseas call centre. The 'SA-based' SGIC brand is the thinnest of facades and the current owners of the brand are trashing what was once a respected name. The reports of terrible experiences found elsewhere here are consistent with… Read more
our disastrous experience. Their systems are hopelessly dysfunctional and, as mentioned by others, seems to be based on forcing unfortunate OS call centre staff to wear people down through sheer frustration so that customers give up when repeatedly no level of competent service or alternative to escape their spiral of ineffective non-action is provided. From our experience: You will never deal with the same person twice; you will have to explain the same thing over and over, in our case more than a dozen times; you will deal with unfortunate OS call centre staff who are thrown to the wolves with inadequate resources or power to resolve things (the company should be ashamed of the way these staff are used to avoid Australian senior staff having any contact with super-frustrated customers) ; you will not get replies to emails; you will wait to talk to people who have are not equipped to understand the case even though it has been written, drawn and explained a dozen times; if you demand to be sent something in writing it may be a text with a completely irrelevant link; you will be given contradictory advice that the staff cannot provide any backup explanation for - even after being put on hold for 10 minutes; you will not find an obvious way to talk to anyone with any capacity to get you off their exhausting call centre treadmill - Australian-based staff seem protected by the system at all costs so their call centre staff must face the music; you may get told that your claim is finally resolved after 4 months and told to take your car to an SGIC approved crash repairer and spend the time to do so; you may then be told the opposite based on a so-called new review finding that there was a breach of traffic light road rules - in an incident on an isolated country road with no traffic lights for miles around; you may then be told to provide the basic details of the incident again - approaching 5 months after the original claim; this reviewer may then send you a non-sensical letter that argues the original ‘not at fault’ decision no longer stands but does not even mention the fact a irrelevant traffic light rule was cited as the reason for the reversal of your country road incident decision; the letter may say that you have a week to contact the reviewer directly if there are any issues but where the phone number is meant to be is only xxx’s; so you may call the other overseas call centre number which answers as ‘welcome to RACV’ even though you are insured by SGIC; so you may then resort to email and the only reply you get before their deadline is an autoreply saying “thanks for your recent claim”; you may never feel so disappointed in an Australian company; you will feel very sad for the few remaining staff left in the original SGIC Adelaide office who must read these reports of what happens when the SA customers they sign up ever need to make a claim....

write down other parties insurance company, clearly got too hard. Phone line dropping in and out. Person was unable to understand loading zone and Australian laws regarding that.
They sent paperwork to complete - which we returned immediately via email I had it confirmed they received it. Yes they had the email reply and information.
Then get SMS asking when i was going to send it two week later??
Rang them to find out why. They don't know. Confirmed again they had the information and then while waiting to discuss further they hung up on me.
More SMS messages coming through - just impossible to resolve anything. like dealing with Telstra
It is IMPOSSIBLE to get this company to work on your behalf. It is IMPOSSIBLE to manage a claim with them as their overseas call centre is just reading scripts and when it gets too hard they hang up. It is IMPOSSIBLE to get them to take down the incident details correctly as they can't understand what is being said.
We have cancelled all policies and moved to local Insurance companies.
I warn anyone to avoid SGIC. They cannot handle a claim properly, (our first claim for 10 years), they do not value your custom and even though we are in the right and provided all the information, including photographic evidence, they forced us to pay the excess which i do not believe they will refund. Its double dipping for insurance.
SGIC overseas call centre mucks you around so much and sends messages that are not relevant to you requesting info they have in a bid, I believe, to make you just give up through sheer frustration.
Disgraceful customer service and geared to ensure if you have a claim it is not easy to sort out. So you end up paying excess, which they say they might refund but from reviews that never happens. . OVERSEAS CALL CENTRES make this the worst company to deal with when you are at your most vunerable. BE VERY AWARE. Fine if you don't actually claim!
I feel we have been scammed dealing with them. Insurance is worth nothing if you can't claim once every 10 years. We had 7 policies with them.

accident (not at fault) in October 2020. Nearly four months later work hasn't started on the vehicle. Loan car? We were told that we can hire a car and SGIC will assess whether they will reimburse us down the track. Nice work, we live in a rural location and now have one car between two people. On the weekend the household and pets had to evacuate due to a bushfire, this would have been easier if we had two cars!

shook my head. Eventually she came out of the shops. I said where did you get your license from? She ranted and raved. I guiged her backwards but she decided to turn her steering wheel to the left, her wheel hit and dented my car. I took several photos of the incident so I got her rego and make of car. She took off and I didn't get her info. I reported this to my local police station, they weren't bothered about her manner. 3 days later I get a phone call from the police wanting me to make another police report, they were going to hand it to traffic police. Now this is where the fun begins. I put a claim in to SGIC, that went OK, a couple of weeks later SGIC want me to take photos of the damage and email the photos to a particular crash repairs. I said no I want a physical assessment from a human. They okayed it. I did that as I was talking to the repairer I saw fee of $800, the lad said that's your excess. I told him what actually happened and showed him the photos. He said, THAT NOT YOUR FAULT. go back to SGIC and tell them. So I did. I said to SGIC I have photos I can send you, the SGIC person said we don't want the photos. I was on the phone for 30 minutes or more doing a new claim. I hadn't heard from SGIC for 8 weeks, I emailed them want to know what is happening with my claim, two weeks later they got back to me via email stating they are working on my claim. I reply I have photos, do you want them? A week later... No... 6 weeks later I get more instructions that to do. Now, I had to go to the police station and pay $75 to release the police report to SGIC. I'm now getting very upset so I stated none of this is my fault and I sent SGIC my photos. I threw my hands in the air, I give up what do I have to do to get some decent service from SGIC. WEEKS later they rang me for further instructions on the police report.. I said I have had enough of your rubbish, forget the claim. SGIC emailed me with confirmation to stop the claim, but stated that the car must be fixed by renewal time... WELL SGIC YOU HAVE LOST ME AS A CUSTOMER AND MY STORY HAS BEEN HEARD..
