Second time stopped working – This microwave stopped working within first 18 months. When contacted Sharp they said it is out of warranty and taking to authorised service centres means I need to pay for it. When authorised service centre checked it is not my fault then sharp paid for the service. Now again the same issue. Not heating at all and making some whirring sounds for… Read more
first 20 sec and then sounds goes way but no heating at all.. I am very disappointed in this product, specially when we use it only to warm milk, food and rarely for popcorn. We don’t use it at all for cooking.

We bought our microwave in 2016. We were thrilled. It worked well for years and then suddenly...sparks and a 'crackling' sound. Absolutely astonished to find serious burn damage around the door and opening into the oven cavity. I have posted four photos, but unsure if they will upload. I hope they do so others can be warned about the danger of… Read more
owning this SHARP microwave R395Y (S). I would like to receive a response from Sharp explaining why/how this could have happened and if other owners are at risk.
Six and a half years of reliable service from this one – Today we farewelled our Sharp Carousel R395YS Inverter microwave, which has died after six and a half years of reliable service. It was used several times a day, every day, for everything from heating milk for morning coffees (preferred this over frothing with the Breville), to reheating meals, steaming fresh vegetables, baking cakes, poaching our… Read more
dog's meat and veggies, as well as defrosting bread and other foods.
We've been loyal customers of Sharp microwaves over the decades, going back to the early 1980s and the (awful!) woodgrain-finished Carousel, a behemoth which came with an informative cookbook (see photo, I won't be parting with this book!). That model lasted for absolutely ages and when it packed it in we bought a new smaller model Carousel, which is still working well and is now used by visiting family and friends in our guest wing.
Reading through hundreds of online reviews covering almost every brand of microwave oven available it seems that our experience has been a relatively good one, as microwave ovens generally seem to be problematic and many don't last beyond a few months. With this in mind we've ordered a new Sharp R395EST Inverter, and paid $50 extra for a two-year replacement plan. Fingers crossed we won't need to activate that option. Watch this space...

Another disposable short term product – Ours was only ever used for reheating. Never cooked in it. Unfortunately, for some reason the door and door surround decided to arc out quite dramatically. This gave my wife such a scare she immediately switched it off and unplugged it. It was well looked after with no visible corrosion or damage whatsoever. If left unattended, this could have… Read more
caused a fire or worse. Contacted Sharp and emailed pictures. No response as yet. Reported fault to the ACCC. UNLESS Sharp replace it, we'll never buy Sharp again. Thinking about Smeg now.

Was an excellent microwave I ever used, very happy so far but stopped all in sudden , not happy now – Was an excellent microwave I used ever, very happy so far but stopped all in sudden , not happy now... after 4 years, feels like such a short time and one year warranty is not so enough for such an expensive microwave, hope sharp will do something to deal with it... Great microwave till today – Hi i purchased this microwave on 30 July 2016 and it stop working today 22 July 2019 just less than 3 years. It was working great till today. This stop heating or cooking. This was a great microwave. Love it so far but not happy now. I think one year warranty ia not enough for this expensive product. I hope sharp can repair this at no cost please. Would love to buy again. Show details · 2
Decent microwave – The dial is easy enough to get used to but the buttons feel rather cheap. Also it seems like for some reason it doesnt so a great job on heating soups. I'm not sure how this could be since our last microwave was all 1200W but thats sure what it seems like to us in the household. The sensor is a nice idea but like so many other microwaves can be… Read more · 1
very hit or miss. Nothing about it is terrible, and it looks pretty good, but it was just very underwhelming for the price compared to other microwaves.

Microwave Stopped Working Three Years after Replacement by Sharp – I posted a review of this item in Apr 18: https://www.productreview.com.au/reviews/aae7ff88-aed2-32ac-9ed7-4067308bcb35 Purchased original microwave March 2014. Used it only to cook porridge and rice, and re-heat cups of tea. It is now inoperative and does not heat at all. Also experienced arcing and a burn on inside of the door. Very… Read more
disappointed with failure after only 4 years of very light use.
The item was replaced by Sharp - happy days..................However, three and a half years later (Oct 21) the microwave has ceased operating AGAIN. Very underwhelmed again that the item lasted three years, experiencing very light usage. I see from the thread the R395YS is discontinued - perhaps Sharp have learnt from all the customer feedback.
Come on Sharp, let's see you do the right thing again.
Just another unsatisfied Sharp microwave user – I have read the reviews and I am another who purchased a Sharp R395 y s microwave. Stopped working after 2 to 3 years. Phoned Sharp, but received no solution to my problem. Show details
Short life – I really liked this microwave until it failed to work, blown fuse & that was the end of it. Purchased 07/2017, short life & now goes to e-waste. First microwave 36 years old, still working using in workshop. Second microwave, another brand lasted 7 years. Manufacturers need to concentrate on quality & repairable. Would rather pay a higher price for a product with a longer life. Show details

Programming has changed - it doesnt cook as it should – We have owned a Sharp Carosel with Sensor Cook for decades. Replacing like with like as the appliance needed replacement. The latest model is a total waste of money. The sensor cook doesn't work as it should, the programming must have been changed. Everything we have attempted to cook has either been very overcooked or undercooked eg sensor… Read more
cook vegetables. Another sensor programme, rice now stops a couple of minutes in, to be stirred. It used to be set & forget = perfect rice. The delay start has gone too.
Waste of money – Failed after only 2.5 years, keeps blowing fuse thought additional cost and the brad name would matter, but clearly not Outlay $280 probably should have bought Kmart brand instead I will be contacting Sharp for refund Show details
Disappointed – Bought this Stainless Steel Microwave as I had previously owned a white one which was great and lasted forever, though with a new home I wanted an upgrade. Was always a bit noisy. Maybe used twice a week for a year and a half and it seemed to just blow up! Totally disappointed as hardly used and still looks brand new! Show details

What A Dud but Sharp came to the party for out of warranty repairs – Purchased 29/6/2018 - failed just over 12 months later. Started making a terrible noise intermittently over last few weeks. Initially thought it was the turntable coming off the rollers but now evident something more serious and stopped using it. We had owned a Sharp Carousel microwave that served us well for over 10 years. I will submit a… Read more

Absolute rubbish – DO NOT BUY... Wish we could could give 0 stars. Purchased 13/4/18. Failed 29/8/19. Grand total of 16 months use. Surprise... It only has a 12 month warranty. DO NOT buy. We should not be forced into buying "Extended Warranties" for this sort of rubbish. Show details

In for repair after 3 months !! – After 3 months of use the turntable stopped working, Sharp do not replace but rather send off for repairs ( even thought the microwave is only 3 months old ) has been nearly 3 weeks being repaired and still have no microwave !!! Noisy and marks with fingerprints easily - would not recommend !! Show details

Microwave caught on fire – Like others before me with this model, we bought this to replace a Sharp Carousel we'd had for about 30 years! And my parents first long-lived microwave was the same - so why wouldn't we go with Sharp again? I think we bought this one it about 2 years ago. Last night we put it on to COOK for 10 minutes. . After about 6 minutes in, I could smell… Read more
acrid smoke and couldn't believe it was coming from the microwave. I've never seen a microwave do this and we always use microwave safe containers. We stopped it immediately and smoke poured out. There's a big burn mark / melted section on the bottom of the door and a black scorch mark on the door frame. There was no misuse by us so must be a fault.
Luckily we were close by or the whole thing could have burst into flame. How hasn't this model been recalled???? Bought from Good Guys, Castle Hill.
What do we do now? What's happened to Sharp? They were always so good in the past.
Waiting 4 days now with a microwave we can't use.
Great until it wasn't! – We have had the same problem as so many others. We were gifted the our microwave a few years ago as a housewarming gift. Within 3 weeks of having it, due to a fault it burned / melted a hole inside the door. We had it replaced with the same model and were told it was a 'freak occurance'. Now, a few years down the track, this one has done the exact… Read more
same thing! I turned it on yesterday and it made crackling sounds and when I opened it there was a pungent burning smell and burns around the door.
This is SO DANGEROUS. It's clearly a fault and I'm wondering why the model was never recalled? It shouldn't matter that it's an older appliance, microwaves absolutely shouldn't do this.
I had always believed Sharp to be one of the best brands, but now, after having two consecutive microwaves fail us, I would be reluctant to ever buy one of their products again.

Okay for a while – Purchased 2014 and has done a reasonable job. Two days ago arced and has a large burn mark. Was told by Sharp to take to local agent for assessment. Took microwave in, agent opened door and said he would have to have a closer inspection before telling Sharp what the problem was and if they would ok it to be fixed. He then told me if Sharp decided not to fix it it would cost me $154 for the inspection. Not happy so will not buy Sharp again. Show details
Turntable stopped working and microwave no longer heating – Our Sharp microwave is just over 5 years old and has suddenly stopped working. it worked ok. Last night and again today we have turned off and unplugged the power plug and attempted to heat half a cup of water for 20 seconds then a further 50 seconds, the turntable did not rotate and the water remained tepid. Can it be repaired or will this cost almost as much as a new microwave?

Great microwave – Love this microwave and use it all the time. Heats and cooks evenly..I also purchased one for each of my sons..highly recommend. It not only compliments my kitchen but works well to.. It is easy to clean and not to bulky. It was also a reasonable price. You won't be disappdisappointed. Show details · 1
Worked great until now – We bought this microwave 4-5 years ago and have been very happy with it until now. Turned on microwave and there is white sparking coming from behind metal plate. I have read in previous posts this is arcing which seems to be a common problem. Now we are looking to replace our microwave as it seems very unsafe to use. Show details

Excellently – This microwave is durable, I have had mine for over 5 years now. The power of this microwave is stronger than others. I find I need minimal time to heat or cook anything, which is a blessing with a busy young family. I am very happy with mine. The model number may not be accurate but the description is correct. Only lasted a couple of years – There seems to be a common problem with this microwave as ours experience is similar Problems similar to other reviews. Microwave stopped working after only 2 years and it arced just prior to it dying. Pretty disappointed in this sharp microwave, loved our previous sharp but now looking at other brands to replace this one. Show details
Are Sharp in denial over this problem? – When we renovated our kitchen two years ago, we decided on a Sharp microwave as we had experienced a good run with Sharp products in the past. We purchased our microwave in March 2016 and it performed quite satisfactorily until we noticed in April this year, burn marks on the body of the oven and melting of the door trim which has obviously been… Read more
caused by arcing between the door and oven. This discovery was alarming, given the potential fire hazard. It is even more disturbing to read the reviews on this site and find that the problem is quite widespread and that Sharp, a large and respected manufacturer, are seemingly doing very little about it. At the very least, they should have had a recall on the affected models. Microwaves are the type of product that one used to get 20+ years out of in the past. Even by today's standards, 5+ years would not be an unreasonable expectation, not just until the warranty runs out!

Slow wave – This micro wave is so slow just to start cooking and I don't think it speaks English or understands Aussie cooking. It is way to hot when it does eventually start. I don't think I haven't burnt any thing in it to date.. Maybe I need cooking lessons or they could come complimentary with the oven Show details

A liability – In the middle of microwaving chocolate, the microwave started to arc and make horrid smelling smoke, leaving a melted scorch mark on the door frame. Sharp refused to acknowledge the issue, and blamed me! I certainly won't be buying Sharp again! Looking at the other reviews here, this is a common failure on this microwave, so I think a recall is needed. Show details

So far so good – I bought this because I had owned a Sharp microwave that served my family well for over 15 years which was quite amazing. Having read some of the reviews for this model, I am a little nervous, but 2 weeks down and so far so good. It seems to cook food quicker (it's more powerful) and more evenly (it is an inverter model) which are both pluses. Given the other reviews I'll report back if anything goes wrong. Show details
Hi Nick, thank you for taking the time to share your experience. Have a good day.
Going Well So Far – We have only had this two months but I am slightly nervous reading the other reviews. Ours works perfectly and we think it looks fantastic in our kitchen. We actually bought it mostly on looks which probably isn't smart but we figure Sharp is a good Japanese brand. It works very well (so far) so fingers crossed we get a long life out of it. Goes forever – I have not had much luck with microwave ovens. Until now. I love the look of this one looks so neat and clean. Heats my meals up so nice. Dont really understand why microwaves are different. But this one doesnt dry my food out and it definitely hasn't blown up on me (lol) ..As I said have not had much luck with them until now. Dont think this little beauty is going to give me any trouble. It's my baby now. Show details · 2
Poor lifespan similar complaints recorded – Microwave oven is only 22 months old. It has started to make sparking noises when in use. We have noticed burn marks between the door and the frame. We are now worried about using the appliances. Suspect it is definitely on its way out. 5th Sharp microwave oven we have owned. The last 2 have had a short life. Only lasted 5 years – Purchased original microwave May 2013. My parents and my husband’s parents recommended a Sharp Microwave due to reputation for quality and they have both had Sharp Microwaves for 15 + years. family are very disappointed with the failure after only 5years of very light use. We asked an electrician friend if it could be fixed and he said it was cheaper to buy another one. Disappointed that this will contribute to landfill after only 5 years of light use. Not good for the environment!
