Why can’t I get my confidence quilter to do the basic Zigzag stitch? I’m ready to throw it outside.

New Singer 7469Q Confidence will not pick up stitches ...What could be the problem?

What would cause the feed dogs to stop moving in my 7469 Singer sewing machine?

Nicole F.
Nicole F.

My top thread keeps randomly making looser stitches on the bottom of the fabric. Like it will be sewing fine and then in the middle of a line, a few stitches will make loose loops on the other side, then it goes back to normal for a bit. Sometimes I just get one stitch here and there, other times I get a whole bunch of them together. What could be causing it?

Have you tried a new needle, sometimes a sharper needle will solve those issues.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve tried a different needle, I’ve also tried going up a size in needles to a 14, as I’m sewing through a quilt. I’m also using the walking foot that was provided with the machine.

Hi Nicole, it could be caused by the weight of the quilt causing drag , I have had the same happen when quilting with a walking foot . There are a lot of tips on you tube to help , personally I don’t have a big table so have to take the weight of the quilt on my shoulder and go slowly feeding it through ,stop adjust and slowly again , it definitely helps if you can do it on a large table so Quilt is supported.

Thank you, I think this is something I struggle with. Even if it’s not fully causing the problem, I think it’s definitely a contributing factor. I’ll see if I can find some tips online like you suggested.

Why m'y machine is flashing

Can’t get tension right. Have tried all troubleshooting and still material puckering. Changed needles and cottons. Defluffed machine. Tried every setting on dial. rethreaded numerous times. No difference.

Hi, seems like you have already tried what I would have suggested to try , do make sure you have the foot in the upright position when you thread the machine if it’s down it can mess up the tension , you could contact singer Australia 0288111900 or visit the website where you can send a message directly from the page . I found them to be very helpful .

What about the pressure on the foot, perhaps it is too tight.

I recently started free motion quilting on my Singer Confidence Quilter 7469Q and whilst doing it, I notice some parts my thread is bunching up. I removed the bobbin and removed all the fluff I can find, changed the needle to size 14 (90) from 80 and am getting the same thing and it is very frustrating. Can anyone help me do the right thing, please. Thank you. Seema

You should check the tension on the upper threading is ok. Try adjusting it one way, then the other, to see if that solves your problem

Hi Caz I will have a look at it. Thanks for that.

I bought a 5 piece template from ebay which looks like the Westalee one and each time I try to do free motion quilting, the needle breaks and so far broke 3 needles. I heard we need a correct shaft to go with it and the one that is provided by the machine does not work. Can anyone help me as I need to proceed with my quilting. Also can I buy it from singer company or from ebay. Thanks you.

I wish I could advise you, but on this occasion, I am not sure, so hopefully someone else may be able to answer your question.

Bought a Singer Confidence Quilter 7469Q about a month ago and returned it for repairs but still the stitches are not consistent as some of the stitches are wide whilst some are okay when using the walking foot for quilting. Have not used it yet without the walking foot. How do I adjust the stitching to be consistent throughout for both with and without the walking foot. Also I need to know the measurements of this measurement so that I can buy a trolley bag. Thank you, Seema

Hi when stitches are inconsistent while quilting with a walking foot it’s usually because the quilt (fabric ) is not supported enough causing it to pull on the needle area . Make a small sample sandwich and test on that if the stitches are good then it is the drag that’s causing the problem also the walking foot is meant to walk not gallop so maybe slow down a bit . I have learnt that the right thread and needle make a big difference too .

Hi Sussanne Thanks for responding to my query. I shall try next time to let it walk as I find it sometimes goes too fast when I press the foot paddle. Thanks again.

I have had my machine for only 6 months I was so happy with it, but now I am having trouble. It is not picking up on one side of the pattern stitching. I have set It Auto and it is not picking up also on straight stitching, hope you can help me.

Hi Liz! I have found that if you I screw the bottom plastic casing off (2 screws - one on the side and one at the back using a crosshead screwdriver) and take of the needle plate as well, you will see there is a substantial build up of compressed fluff that makes the machine do that. I just had to de-fluff mine the other day and it purrs like a kitten again. Also, I do recommend using quality needles and thread to avoid excess fluff build up. Although the machine doe sfine with regular ones as well

Caz
Caz

I agree, and was going to suggest that you clean the machine regularly, as this will effect the way the machine operates. Also, make sure your needle is sharp, as this can effect the way the machine can pick up the thread. One last item to check is that the cotton is threaded the right way, as sometimes we can all make a mistake, and do something not quite the right way. Good luck. If you still have problems, go to the retailer or somewhere like Spotlight, as they are always very helpful. YouTube can also show how to fix problems.

Does this machine have s stitch regulator?

Caz

You can vary the length and width of the stitch if that is what your query is about.

I am sorry, but otherwise, if you can give me more information I can answer better.

My machines needle treader does not line up.

How do you replace?

sussanne
sussanne

Hi, i had that problem after replacing the needle, I loosened the needle screw and made sure needle was in place properly , this fixed the problem for me . You can remove the threader by pulling down on it , then put it back on to see if that helps . If none of this helps have a look at Singer Australia web site you could contact them and see what they suggest . Happy sewing .

Caz
Caz

Make sure that you have the needle in the position as per the manual, as it will not line up if you have it in the wrong position. Have you tried the suggestion by Sussanne? Did either of these solutions help? This machine is sold also by Spotlight, and I am sure they might be able to assist in person if you still need help.

Thank you for your response.

I tried again and everything worked fine.

Love my new machine but have one problem. Have noticed when I get speed up on sewing the thread will break. am using Resant and have straight stich on auto tension. Have made sure bobbin thread correctly threaded. Any Ideas? Seems to be coming from feed dog area.

Caz
Caz

Hi Maggie - I am not exactly sure what your problem is. But have you checked the tension for both top and bottom and made sure there are no problems there? I did find that if the reel at the top could not move easily and became a bit too tight, the bottom thread breaks and jams with thread, making it difficult to remove the material from the machine also. I keep an eye on that and do not seem to have the problem any more.

Hope that might help.

Carolyn
