SA999X Smeg oven, 19 years old in a house recently purchased, has had the fan for fan assist replaced, the thermostat and the cooling fan replaced with amazing service from SMEG, however, the metal surrounds of the oven get very hot when cooking. The glass section of the door is not too hot, the knobs are okay but the top and bottom metal surrounds are so hot that I could not hold my hand more than a second or so without feeling like I would get a burn. I just don't recall other ovens I've had being so hot as to be scary. My husband took the oven out of the cabinet and the new cooling fan is still working but the stone benchtop above the oven and the metal edge of the cooktop do get quite hot, and I notice the heat. I would like someone from SMEG to tell me how hot the metal outside surfaces should get, or what is acceptable. I would buy another SMEG due to the good service we have had but if a new oven would also get hot and heat the stone benchtop then I don't see the point of getting a new one. If anyone on these forums has an under bench oven and can tell me if the benchtops above the oven feel hot I would appreciated the feedback (not so hot as to burn but hot enough for me to be concerned that it is not right).
Hi Mortlipp, Thanks for your enquiry. Could you please email service@smeg.com.au with your name, address, and contact number along with the screenshot of your enquiry and mark it to the attention of Lesley. Once she has this information, she will be in direct contact with you. Regards Smeg
Thanks for your reply. We have had a service person come out in the past and that is when the non working cooling fan was replaced and the thermostat. I'm not sure that there is anything to be done. It doesn't burn food, it cooks perfectly. It's been a good oven and still works. I have read others commenting on how hot the metal surrounds of their ovens get so perhaps that is just the nature of these older ovens. It's just been worrying me lately, every time I use the oven. We have decided to buy a new SMEG, the classic model to fit the space. Hopefully it won't make the bench top hot and the sales person has assured me that the new technology means the oven door does not get too hot. We are going with Smeg due to the excellent service so thanks. Hope we don't need to call on you again. Michelle
Hi our C9GMXA1 wok burner will not stay on when the knob is pressed and turned the burner ignites immediately but once you let go of the knob the flame goes out. I imagine this is a sensor issue where can I source a replacement sensor and approximately how much should it cost please. Thanks Paul

I want to clean the inside of the glass where it appears to have drips down it. I have looked up all the cleaning instructions and it does not indicate you can take the glass out yet I do remember having done this a long long time ago but can’t remember how. Is it a matter of removing the two screws in the side and the two for the handle or does this model not allow thw glass to come out?? I can’t stand the drips showing they show up when the light it on…need an answer urgently if anyone can help. Cheers
Dear stacca, Thanks for your enquiry. Please contact our technical department on 02 8667 4888 and they will be able to assist you. Regards Rodney

SA999X Smeg oven, 17 years old in a house recently purchased, has had the fan for fan assist replaced, the thermostat and the cooling fan replaced recently with amazing service from SMEG, however, the metal surrounds of the oven get very hot when cooking. The glass section of the door is not too hot, the knobs are okay but the top, bottom and side metal surrounds are so hot that I could not hold my hand more than a second or so without feeling like I would get a burn. I just don't recall other ovens I've had being so hot as to be scary. I assume that the new cooling fan is still working as the problem with the stone benchtop getting unacceptably hot has not returned which was an issue before the cooling fan was replaced. I would like someone from SMEG to tell me how hot the metal outside surfaces should get, or what is acceptable. I would buy another SMEG due to the good service we have had.
How hot does your SMEG oven metal surrounds get? Can you hold your hand on the surrounds? Michelle
Hello, how easy is it to remove the lightbulbs (2 have 2) I have tried and tried. Is there a trick in getting to glass cover off?
We bought this standing cook to back in 2018. Oven has been flickering and turning off for no reason when in use of course. We find that it seems to overheating on the outside too. We've never had any issues before, but it's starting to get annoying, when you have something in the oven and it starts to flicker and turn off, we have to unplug it wait a few seconds plug back in and turn it back on and it works fine. This can happen two to three times during cooking.

SA999X Smeg oven - The metal surrounds of the oven and the stone benchtop above the oven are getting very hot. We recently had the fan replaced as it wasn't working. It seems to work on fan assist but when set to normal convection oven when I turn the oven off I thought the fan should run to cool the oven down but I can't hear any fan going. How hot should surrounds get?
Dear mortlipp, Could you please email service@smeg.com.au with your name, address and contact number and mark it to the attention of Lesley. Once she has this information, she will be in direct contact with you. Regards Smeg
The oven is 17 years old so can't complain I guess but I really want to know how hot surfaces should get and whether anyone else has ever had this issue. We bought the house a year ago and initially just cooked with the conventional function as the fan was not working. I am sure we would have noticed if the surrounds and stone bench were as hot as we find them now. If I left my hand more than a second or so on the metal surround of the door I would get burned. Surely this is not right. I can't see what the fan would have to do with this issue though as it was not working before and we didn't notice the surrounds and bench got too hot, yes they were hot but not burning hot. We might just have to buy a new oven! We are still waiting on the local branch to contact us about sending a technician out and we don't want to use the oven much in the meantime. Understand it is between Christmas and NY so perhaps that is why we haven't had a phone call beyond the initial call saying they would send someone. Just very worried about this issue as it is dangerous and the heat has been such that it has damaged some of the cabinet chipboard surrounds warping them and the laminex trim has come off!
Where is the fuse in my oven, I need to replace it
We've just installed a Smeg C92GMX9 and there seems to be only one rack for the larger oven. We bought this same oven for our previous house three years ago and it had two racks. Can you please advise whether it is supposed to have only one? Can't understand why there would be, especially for baking. Thanks.
Dear Sharon, Thanks for your enquiry. The model in question is not sold in Australia. You will have to contact your Smeg office in your country. Regards Smeg
Thanks, will do.

Any advice on why the temperatures are so far out on these things?
Tested with water and Inkbird - 100 on the dial is 150-170 at the thermostat probe, about 5 degrees less in the opposite corner of the oven.
Seems our thermostat is shot, the wiring is dodgy and the bottom element may or may not be working.
Hello Glen, thank you for your feedback- Have you contacted us to discuss this temperature variation? We would love to have opportunity to send our Smeg Technician to your residence to assess this further- if you have not contacted us can you kindly email me your full name address and contact telephone number our email address is service@smeg.com.au and please mark to the urgent attention of Lesley kind regards Lesley from Smeg Australia
Hi Lesley, I've spoken with the Smeg repairer in Hobart who is coming out to re-repair the wiring. I will call them this morning to let them know about the measured temperature differences as well. If the thermostat is gone, it could explain the cut outs, as the oven at 200 deg last night (on the dial) was actually reading 260+ on the thermometer.
New thermostat installed, temperatures are better, but still WAY off the mark. Testing this morning shows temps are 15-25 degrees lower than shown using a twin probe setup below 200 deg C, but bizarrely almost spot on over that. Long story short, temperature calibration and control with this oven is awful!
First cook in the new oven, cooking a roast leg of lamb on fan force, opened oven, very smoky, Filled room with smoke, any reason for that?
Thank you for your question Glen P. Can I kindly ask if you removed the protective film from the outside or inside of the appliance, including accessories? Also, have you removed any labels (apart from the technical data plate) from the accessories and from the oven cavity and also removed all the accessories from the appliance to clean them before the firsr use, It is important to note that before the first use you must also heat the empty oven at the maximum temperature to burn off any residues left by the manufacturing process. If you have done all of this, can you email us direct with your full name, address and contact telephone number. Our email address is service@smeg.com.au and please mark to the attention of Lesley. Kind Regards, Smeg Australia.
My oven turns off and the circuit breaker stays on. It then comes on a anywhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours after it switches off what could the problem be

We’ve had the same issue. Tech said it wasn’t uncommon for the wiring to degrade after a few years and burn out. He replaced the wiring and it did the same thing 2 weeks later. Temperatures are amazingly variable and inaccurate too!
how do you remove top cover plate from hob to replace thermocouples ,are there hidden screws etc rgds mike c
Hi we are having a problem with our oven and it takes a lot longer to heat then it used to ? Can we replace the elements ourselves ?
Hi Jacqui D - thank you for reaching out in regards to your Oven. We would not recommend that you replace the elements yourself, they must be replaced by a qualified Smeg technician. Can you kindly email us direct with your full name, address and a contact telephone number. We will then contact you to discuss this matter, it could be a number of things that are wrong. Our email address is service@smeg.com.au and please mark to the attention of Lesley. Kind Regards, Smeg Australia.
