Was recommended this machine by the salesperson told it was the best machine. In one year the first one smoke poured out. Second one now sounds like a meat grinder. Very disappointed. Not going third time lucky will get another brand.
Purchased in at The Good Guys Physical store for $535.
First: I love the design and the true red. As a friend said: "who needs a man, with a mixer that looks this sexy." I also bought it for the 800 watt motor which was a lot better than the Kitchen Aid. However, I mainly use it for mixing bread dough and, as other reviewers have noted, it doesn't pick up flour from the bottom and sides. I don't really understand the shape at the bottom of the bowl. There is a little bump in the bottom, perhaps to make liquids run towards the mixer but it doesn't work for flour. Also, needing 3 egg whites be...
Read morefore it will whip them, seems a problem. It's my first mixer, waited decades to afford one, so a little disappointing. It does the job, but it sounds like there are better and cheaper options out there. Also hoping that Smeg adds more attachments.Purchased in .
It has been a disappointment from the start after buying it the first two delivered were faulty. The third one after a week the speed numbers came off and they gave me a tacky looking sticker to remedy the problem after a year the coating off the attachments is falling off. I’m told it’s never happened to before I must be using it too much!! I used it every 2 /3 days with half the ingredients I’ve used in my other mixers. In Taiwan where I brought it I’m always told It must be me using it wrong or too much. ( even though I only copied what the ...
Read moreinstructions say to do and some one watched me using it..) What’s the point of an expensive mixer that can’t be used for what you need I’m only cooking for two adults and a child .. only making bread twice a week and cake once a month..? Id strongly recommend anyone don’t buy it save your money and your time.Purchased in for $1,488.
Bought an expensive mixer thinking it is better than the rest. You are so wrong. Use couple of time for dough pizza which smeg provided the recipe. It has too hot after couple mins. Contacted SMEG and they provide a replacement. 6 months down the track, another issue arise which the bowl keep on disengaged when i mixing the dough with only level 1. Soooo dissapointed. Please buy other brands...smeg look great and that's it.
Purchased in for $550.

Purchased this mixer 2 months ago and have used it about 5 times. I’m very disappointed with this as it doesn’t even mix the bottom or the sides. Meaning I have to stop the mixer and mix it with a spatula or lift the bowl. I shouldn’t have to do that. I think a stand mixer should do just that mix! I really wish I had of just bought the kitchen aide.

Really disappointed, waited so long to afford this mixer. However, everytime I have used it, mixture ends up along sides of bowl. Reading the many reviews here, I see this is a general problem. How is this possible? A mixer is surely supposed to 'mix'?

I have the exact same problem as the previous review in that i always end up manually scraping the bowl down as the mixer just seems to clump everything at the bottom and the sides of the bowl. I had a very old kenwood for years and never had this problem. Really disappointing.

Every time I used my mixer it doesn’t seem to be scraping the bottom of the bowl, I always end up using a spatula and manually mixing it. I’ve had my mixer for over 2 years now. Is this a typical problem for smeg?

I received a Smeg stand mixer Feb 2019 for my 30th. It ended up being returned about 2 months back for a faulty motor, which they replaced (no questions asked) for the next model up. After I unboxed my second Smeg mixer I found paint missing, a few other external defects and my beater broke after one week. So in my frustration I came here to leave a review.
Less than a fortnight back I received an email then a phone call from a director of Smeg Au.
She said she was happy to send me out a 3rd Smeg in their most current model. I said to her "how...

I make breads regularly so kneading dough is definitely the most used function of this machine in my case. I would like to love it so much- as I really like how it looks, but it doesn't perform well. I need to stop the machine many times because the dough keep spinning around the hook. The machine head also moves a lot during kneading, making it annoying. Sadly, it's a beautiful piece but not really usable compared to the Kenwood Major I owned for more than 7 years ( and it still works well btw, I just bought Smeg for the design)

Only used a few times but so far I’m disappointed and wondering whether I should have kept my old mixmaster.
I made sticky date pudding and I had to stop the beating a number of times to scrape sides of bowl and also the bottom of the bowl where the mix wasn’t picked up.
I wanted it to be great as I have other smeg appliances that are good and I love the look of it.
I’ve purchased all the other accessories as well so I’m kind of sorry I did as I think I need to buy another brand and don’t know what to do about it.

Once I have this information I will be in a position to ascertain what to do to fix this problem. Regards, Steve CullenI purchased my Smeg stand mixer after a spending days researching which mixer would best meet my needs. I regularly make bread for my family so my main objective was to purchase a machine that could handle the labour of kneading dough. After reading many positive reviews about the Smeg Stand Mixer, I was sold. After arrival, I quickly made my first batch of dough.. and boy was I disappointed. Firstly, the dough hook is set too high up in the bowl to correctly mix and combine the ingredients. This is unchangeable, unlike the Kitchenaid. Secondly...
Read more, the unit wobbles around while mixing the dough. This is typical of lever-type stand mixers but it was still unsettling given it was only my first use. Thirdly, once the dough came together, it continued to whirl around the dough hook. Unlike a spiral dough hook, the C shape hook on the Smeg is useless at kneading the dough. Instead, the dough just sticks to the hook and crawls up the dough hook. I added lots of oil to the dough at one point, increased the speed, but still, the dough eventually ended back up on the hook. I tried three separate bread recipes, including the recipe included in the Smeg box. All had to be removed from the mixer and kneaded by hand. It is also worth mentioning I tried to make a cheesecake with the whisk attachment. Again, the bowl is set too low and didn't mix the ingredients sufficiently. I ended up taking off the bowl from its base and holing it up closer to whisk to mix it. This is not suffiencent long term. Funnily enough, in the Smeg dough demo on youtube, they completely skip showing the viewers the dough hook in action. I feel they knew about this problem the moment it rolled off the production line! It's such a shame because I love my smeg freestanding oven. Sadly, this mixer is heading back to the store. I will be replacing with a much more powerful, but less beautiful, Kenwood Chef Mixer.Purchased in at Appliances Online for $359.

Machine works good and has great motor speed, can keep up with high usage. My main disappointment is it has trouble creaming/ whisking little amounts as the attachments don’t go close enough to the bowl. Also the numbers on the top of the machine have come off so I don’t know what speed my machine is sitting at.
Considering the price you pay, you are best purchasing a kitchenaid where these problems are not occurring.
Purchased in at Myer for $500.
I purchased my smeg a few weeks ago after the amazing reviews online. When I received it it all seemed fine however, when I was putting it together I noticed a 3-4cm between the bowl and the balloon whisk attachment. I emailed smeg immediately to see if that was normal and to whether my batter will mix evenly. I have not received a response from two weeks ago!
Unfortunately I could not wait for a response so I have decided to use it for my sons birthday this weekend as as expected it did NOT pick up the dry ingredients on the bottom of the bowl! And for some reason my whisk has a crack? Is that normal? I would have liked to revive an email response back from smeg before posing online. I’m very disappointed in my smeg experience.

Went to a baking class in Melbourne recently and this mixer was recommended by one of Sydney’s most prominent bakers (Nadine Ingram). She recommended it even above Kitchenaid. She wasn’t wrong, it’s amazing. It’s quiet, powerful and the shape of the bowl seems to mix the ingredients better than others. I’m a keen baker and I highly recommend this mixer.

Same question here! I cannot whisk eggwhites, the beater is too high, and do not touch the eggwhites in the bowl. Any ideas?
I don't have the smeg but while researching before purchasing my mixer, I read that you need a minimum of 3 egg whites. I don't know it that helps....... http://shop.davidjones.com.au/djs/ProductDisp...
