This TV has just started turning itself off. Random. It is probably 3 years old.... pretty frustrating though. Suggestions?

Not a lot you can do I've found. All I did was wait it out. Mine's almost stopped doing it now after 4 years of crapping itself. Maybe it's all grown up now in tv years.

Where is the on/off button on the actual television.

For those who are having trouble with Wifi,. you cant compare wifi to everything else.

If anyone else needs help with wifi, read a little bit on "5ghz wifi' or get a router that has 5ghz so you are not on the same signal that microwaves and bluetooth and all your neighbours appliances are on , making that frequency busy.

Otherwise buy "ethernet power plug adapters" and plug one in to the mdoem and a power socket and one into a power socket and your tv so you have Ethernet connection through the walls without having to run cables as it goes on the pwoer signals. That will solve everything.

Does anyone know what they are called? (just so i can give this advice a sa question

Ethernet will always be superior to WIFI you speak of Ethernet power line adapters made by many makers such as d-link and TP-link. Doing this also has other advantages it frees up the TV's WiFi direct mode for connecting a laptop or smartphone wirelessly. The other factor along usage of the 5ghz band on your WIFI is it can move considerably more data. Especially important when it comes to 1080p and the latest 2160p (4K UHD) video!

Hi,

With this tv is it worth getting a 4k player as the tv does not have HDR compatibility.?

This TVs 4K quality is good. HDR only enhances colours so if you're thinking of waiting for the 8500D just for the HDR feature, save your money and go for the 8500C model. But in dark scenes the edge bleed is Very noticable. If you can wait until the boxing day sales you might find the 8500D on sale at Good Guys or JB.

The c model.received hdr support in an update early in 2016. I have tested mine on the Xbox one s and ps4 pro and both confirm hdr10 is fully supported by the TV.

Thanks guys for answering my question, much appreciated. Now I will go out and look for a 4k blu ray player to complement the tv.

Is there any firmware update coming that will speed it up and improve the user interface and making it more user friendly?

I updated mine about a month after getting it and it was perfect. Personally I find it very userfriendly. What do you not find user friendly about it? Push the home button and everything is laid out nicely. Push the discovery button and you can use the settings for picture and what have you. It's my favourite tv ever and that is just because it came out of the box exactly how i could of hoped for. I do not think there is anything about this tv that I do not like. I'd suggest if someone doesn't find this is userfirnedly and they are spending so much money that they should try and return it and go with a different brand that sets things up to your liking.

HOWEVER, You can easily ROOT the tv, which gives you access to the firmware where you can then install custom firmware and custom apps etc. You can change everything about the way everything functions. im sure if you google ROOT SONY SMART TV' Then you will find some wicked custom roms by developers who love perfecting android systems

Hi there I updated the firmware three times with help from Sony support. Sony sent out a new TV two weeks ago and I updated the firmware from there website but twice since then it restarts by itself.. Why who knows apart from the restarts the tv is good Sony advised that the apps cause problems if not updated often as they will not stop the tv
