If I could give zero stars I would
Trying to get our home loan with St George through our broker.
Reams of paperwork later and being given multiple timelines that never came to fruition we finally got our pre approval- all up, approximately 6 weeks after the initial date we were told it would be approved by. Nothing but excuses as to why there was delays and we missed out on the opportunity to bid or make offers on several homes we liked as a result.
Finally we find a home we like and our offer is accepted. All the paperwork is sent away, and St George says we should have fina...
St George messed us around for 3 weeks with still no answer and almost lost the house. Went to Commonwealth, had a pre-approval before we left the bank and unconditional the NEXT DAY. Won't touch St George again.
2 months later, still waiting on a home loan approval. Missed out on properties that we wanted. Just no correspondence at all. Just a simple yes or no answer. But instead wait a few weeks, then want more documents. Just ridiculous
Worse mistake ever going with St George for a construction loan.
St George bank has been a complete nightmare with our construction loan. We got pre approval late last year so we started building our home. Then because of some minor changes we had to reapply again for the loan and delayed our build for month.
Then I had to chase St George mortgage lender [Name Removed] for validation. Finally after numerous of calls I got the paperwork I needed to start my build.
When it was time for St George to start paying my claims no payment where being made. The invoice are over two months old and overdue. The bui...lder was going to Put my job on hold. After trying to contact [Name Removed] for answers he finally admitted that they lost some paperwork and we need to sign again and resubmit. Annoyed as I was handed the paperwork again. Two weeks later still no payments. This time they are saying there is some missing paperwork that’s why they have not paid. I complained to the bank Manager and she said she will call him and chase it up. I am over it and fed up with the crap customer services. Never again will I try to get a loan from St George bank. I am sick of making complaints and the problem not being solved.
Apply if U have 4-5 months in hand.
Timelines and delays will make one miserable most of the comments here about months and months of waiting due to senior credit team are correct.my advise would be to proceed with application only if U have 4-5 months of time.may be they are heavily under resourced specially credit team
Loan approval in 24-48 hours? Dream on!
I am breaking up with Commonwealth bank after 10 years because of a rude lender of them and am moving away because I feel insulted, and well, St. George has a $4,000 incentive for refinance. I have excellent credit score, more than enough repayment power, and am asking for 70% LVR only. Applied for refinance to St. Geroge six weeks ago. Jumped through all sorts of hoops, the house is evaluated, all documents were sent in time, everything they asked for was sent in minutes, Commonwealth's loan discharge form is ready, yet St. George is in radio ...silence. They said to my broker that the case officer called you and couldn't reach. That's it? You call once, don't leave a message, no follow up email, nothing? They have a $4000 incentive, yet I have already lost more than $1000 worth of extra interest paid for my current loan because of the six weeks waiting and counting. Just keep playing cat an mouse for a while and I will have already spent your $4000. I am going to withdraw my application if I don't receive a final answer by the end of the week. If that's how they treat a customer who has a straight forward application and wants to break a 10 year business with Commonwealth bank to join them, how are they going to treat me if something goes wrong down the path? How do they provide service to their existing customers? Their website says loan approvals take around 24-48 hours. They told the broker it takes 16 working days as standard (just a bit different, isn't it?), and now it's been 6 weeks with no delays from my end. I m beginning to understand why people go the extra mile and work with reputable banks. You pay a little extra but get the service. Won't be back to the rude people in CBA, but maybe I try somewhere like ANZ. Good luck everyone.
Can't be the worst!!!!
I lodged an online application 6 weeks ago. Supposed to receive a call in 3 days, nothing happened.
I called customer service 3 times, and they assured me that they are going to ask someone to call me back, and still nothing.
I gave up and going with another lender.
Home loan refinancing with good communication
Got a home refinance loan with cash back with good service and communication at local branch. They did take some time to process application but communication was always clear and available. Very happy with loan service.
Got a home loan at 1.74 APR from St George along with Cash back of 4k. Additionally they even sent a welcome gift to my home. Can not ask for more.
DON'T DO IT TO YOURSELF. Incompetent. Slow. Mistake Ridden. Amateur. Not fit for purpose.
Wish we'd never gone with St. George for our recent home loan. I really do. Even going through a broker as a buffer, it was probably the worst customer experience we've ever endured. We had a 6 week settlement on our house purchase which should have been plenty of time for them to approve & produce loan documents - apparently not. They only confirmed settlement could go ahead on the day of settlement itself. However... an hour before our allotted settlement time at 2:30pm, we got an email from our solicitor saying the bank had sent out a messag...e to their law firm to cancel settlement due to reason 'reprinted documentation'. All our stuff is on a truck at this point waiting to get into the new house. Our broker then scrambled around with the team at St. George for an hour & they finally admitted it was 'a mistake' at 4pm which left a mad scramble to finalise the settlement prior to collecting the keys. Settlement went through at 4:59pm the Thursday before Easter long weekend, only due to heroics from my solicitor to keep PEXA open with the bank's law firm & my broker to find the right person to sort out the mistake at St. George. OH, almost forgot... given we only got paperwork to sign 3 days before settlement was due, we realised St. George had made a mistake in agreeing to the wrong loan amount. They had failed to cap our LMI into the loan so we were then $20k more out of pocket on the day as we had no time to fix it up. We are debating taking them to the ACCC over this matter. Moving on from the home loan debacle... we then applied for the offer of a no annual fee credit card as part of the Advantage Package perk. Seeing as home loans don't talk to the credit card department, they acted like we didn't exist to St. George. Had to go through the entire screening process as normal - ID, payslips, liabilities etc. But then we also had to do some strange 'merge profile' thing at the branch & physically go in - why exactly? Still don't even know what this is or what it's fixed, but this was definitely our job to sort out for them... Branch said it was done but it turned out that it wasn't 4-5 calls later. They finally did merge our profiles, then we were sent to final assessment (even though we were conditionally approved only on payslip review). This took another 4 days & multiple calls with them asking the same questions and getting the same information. We've finally been approved but now have to wait until the cards arrive at the branch for me to collect them. What is this amateur hour??? Trust me, these reviews tell it exactly how it is over at St. George. A complete shambles from start to finish.
avoid all cost
Many contacts with no answer. Put in a home loan app in early Feb and wait forever, no answer until today end of Mar. They are the worst banks in Australia
Applying for home loan since late January.
It is now late march and two weeks past finance date, still no finslisation.
My side of the finances are all fine.
Most horrible experance ever.
Keep getting led on next wednesday, then on wednesday next friday.

Most upsetting process ever
Beware of the Cash back offer
I’m sorry I refinanced with st George. Tempted by a cash back offer of $3000 that was meant to cover break costs. I was told the cash back would come through in November 2020. It’s March 2021 and I’m still waiting. The original loan manager hadn’t returned any of my emails, texts or phone calls. Feel very let down after having banked with them for decades and am planning on closing all my accounts
Already have mortgage with St George but going to another bank
After 14 years never missed a payment. Great financial situation
Refinancing refused for daft reason
Makes no sense
I give up
$950,000 loan going to another bank as I cannot get help with St George
Rubbish built on crap
Try to get something done that's not outright in the online system - and you will find out what it's really like.
Eg trying to make an international transfer to a bank that's for some reason not in StGeorge's system.
I've been sent/switch around in their systems, listening to blaring musing, having to enter my details repeatedly, it's complete rubbish.
And they're closing branches in the meantime & reducing open hours (who wants to do banking on the weekend? nonsense!)
20 minutes on the line achieves nothing just going in circles, fighting w...ith the automated systems and the operators who seemingly have no idea what's what. Then disconnected. What they can do very well, is charge you exorbitant amounts for international transactions, credit cards, etc; the fees are rather high, the service is rather low.
Questions & Answers
Is there anyone out there that wishes to request Product Review to facilitate the awarding of negative star rating for companies like stgeorge bank. They truly deserve it.
I am an existing home loan customer, we have 16 years left on our mortgage, however am I able to extend the years on my mortgage allowing the repayments to come down a little a month?
Going for a home loan & partner has 1x judgement from 2yrs ago. Have 20% deposit with a guarantor & when I sell my home. Will this be approved?
If you are obtaining the home loan in joint names or your partner is a borrower in any capacity then the answer is no - if the Judgment has not been satisfied. Every lender has different lending criteria so it is up to each lender. However, I have yet to see finance approved where a Judgment remains unpaid. If the Judgment has been paid, it will still be on the credit file. There is no mechanism between the courts and creditor to update Judgment debts. This is simply due to the fact that the court is only involved when there is an additional "step" in the process such as enforcement. To resolve this your partner needs to obtain evidence from the financier that obtained the Judgment that it has been paid in full. A letter from the financier is usually sufficient. Good luck!
