Josh & Joe from JR Gas & Water came around to install this beauty and did an amazing job!!! This unit supplies a ton of hot water for my family and I have three ladies in the house who love warm showers. It’s super efficient and connects to my WIFI via the app so I can see and control it remotely. The whole process from onsite quote to installation was so quick and simple!!! Thanks JR Gas & Water!!! Show details ·  1

Nightmare Experience: 7 Years of Failures and Erased. Do not buy the Stiebel Eltron 302L. While the unit was admittedly quiet, its reliability and the company’s customer service were absolutely abysmal. From the very beginning, the system threw constant error codes. The circuit board had to be replaced multiple times. After 2.5 years of ongoing… Read more

frustration, Stiebel Eltron finally replaced the entire system. At that time, they explicitly promised to renew the warranty on the replacement unit. Unfortunately, the new system continued to have multiple issues. When I called Stiebel Eltron for help, they informed me they had upgraded their internal IT systems and could no longer find any records of my unit or my renewed warranty. They were incredibly difficult to deal with and offered absolutely no further support, effectively leaving me stranded with a faulty product. After 7 years of constant headaches, I have finally ripped it out and replaced it with a different brand. Avoid this company and this product.

I purchased a Stiebel Eltron heat pump hot water system expecting a reliable, energy-efficient solution, but my experience has been extremely frustrating. During a recent cold snap in Canberra, the system completely stopped working, leaving me without hot water. I contacted Stiebel Eltron’s telephone support, who ran through a number of possible… Read more

causes for the issue. However, they reiterated that only their authorised technician could properly assess and repair the unit. Unfortunately, there is only one authorised technician covering the whole of NSW and the ACT.

That technician initially told me he would come on a specific day, but he never arrived and I’ve had no further update. In the meantime, I’ve been left without reliable hot water in the coldest time of the year.

For a premium-priced system, this level of support is simply unacceptable. Hot water is an essential service, and relying on a single technician for such a large area is not good enough. Until Stiebel Eltron invests in adequate service coverage and reliable customer support, I cannot recommend their heat pump hot water systems to anyone in Canberra or the surrounding region. As a consequence, we’re currently looking to another brand to replace this system.

The unit died after 8 years service. I was hoping for longer given the 'premier' brand. I firstly found it difficult (expensive) to find a plumber / technician capable to come out and diagnose, given the brand. Then found there were multiple faults with the condenser. Disappointed with the 5 year warranty (condenser) on what was an expensive… Read more

product at the time. But hey I guess the heat pump market has matured since 2018. Now going with a Reclaim Energy unit which looks great (tank warranty 15 years, condenser 10!) Plus more quiet & latest tech re refrigerant. Def its the new premier brand out there.

Unreliable – Worked well for five years. Since then frequent repairs needed due to pressure valve and thermostat failures. Compared to the instant gas hot water I had for 20+ years without ever needing to service, the heat pump has proved expensive and unreliable. I need to know I have hot water available when I need it.

Expensive Repairs at Four Year Mark – Two expensive repairs after hitting the 4 year mark...rust in the unit damaging the heating element, tripping the circuit and PTRV valve problems. The first plumber we called refused to work on Stiebel Eltron 302's because when he did a service call he got blamed for problems that occurred shortly after. Don't know how long this junk heat pump will last but the replacement will be a different brand.

Piece of rubbish – Absolute piece of rubbish. Broke down 4 times in the 5 years of warranty. Started being really noisy 4 years in. Then 6 months out of warranty it has died again and can't be fixed, Stiebel won't help. Cheapo Chinese unit would be better than this. Never buying a Stiebel again. Show details

Junk with No after sales service – I purchased 2 of the heat pump units about 3 years ago, one for the main house and one for the granny flat. than your simple heat element units. I found this out the hard way, after contacting Stiebel Eltron who put me on their their one guy who does the entire State of NSW, who told me he was too busy and maybe can get to me in a few days. He can also charge you whatever you want. I called 3 of the biggest Emergency Hot Water services in Sydney only to be told they don't carry parts from Stiebel Eltron, told best to go back to Stiebel Eltron or replace the unit.

I ended up waiting over 8 days to get a guy to come out for a $700 repair for a minor part. Then 6 days later the second units goes!

I emailed Stiebel Eltron and asked for help, this was 4 days ago and still no reply. This unit is going into the bin and buying a new unit.

The best advice I could give people is to buy a locally made unit, not this overseas junk, and stay with a simple unit that is easy to repair, not some mob who has a monopoly on their service and parts.

Absolute Rubbish – Unit purchased new 3 years ago for over $4,000 with 2 year warranty but has just failed beyond repair. Compressor shorted to earth. They may have cheaper running costs but paying $4,000 every 3 years is nothing less than false economy. Would not recommend wasting your money. Show details

Noisy fan – I've only had this in for a few weeks but already I'm disapointed with noise it makes. It seems to pulse when on and it can be easily heard upstairs from it. For the money I thought it would be quieter and now I'm concidering going back to electric. Show details

Stop press - stiebel have replaced it hooray - Fails at least once a year since year - – We have lived in this unit in Canberra since 2017 where a large number of Stiebel Eltron heat pump hot water heaters are present in the unit complex. We have had plumbers out, many are not familiar with this type of heat pump hot… Read more

water heater. Stiebel never appear onsite, they only offer phone support. I will imagine I will put a call in tomorrow and they will say it is outside its 2 year warranty. I will have to say it is a “Major Failure” and will pursue statutory warranty obligations. I have had a traditional hot water heater in an investment unit, I have had no problems with it and it was installed in 1999. Over 20 years of trouble free use. With the Stiebel Eltron I have a failure every year for 3 years and have had 5 or 6 call outs to get it fixed. I would never buy one and if I was looking at another investment unit to buy I would not buy it if it had a Stiebel Eltron.

I have no confidence , in this water heater , and am just waiting for it to fail again , Will replace it when it goes again. Great Heat Pump – Had the WWK302 for a few months now, very happy with unit. I was actually quite surprised how quiet it is, I'd say about the same as a pedestal/desk fan on low/med speed. Power consumption is about 600w & normally runs for about 4-8 hours per day. I do have two issues with it, one being the size but being 302L not much can be done about that… Read more ·  1

(issue is more I did not provision for such a big HWS when building). The other issue is there is no timer/controller, so you will need a external timer to take advantage of solar production or off-peak tariffs.

Very happy indeed – I deliberately waited a few months now to write this review to be able to get a better understanding of this unit. Before the purchase I read all the reviews for the previous model (the 300) and I was a bit worried about the many negative reviews. I found an online retailer (not sure if I am allowed to mention this here but I try it anyway. They… Read more

are called "Enter Energy and Water Saving Shop") and the gentleman there (Gary) was a treasure of knowledge that he was more than happy to share. He very much recommended this newer version heat pump and I can honestly say that I could not be happier.

It runs amazingly quiet for starters. I have it installed under my house and one of our bedrooms is only one single brick wall away. When the unit runs, a slight hum can be be heard in that room but only when everything else is absolutely quiet.

We are a family of five and I have measured the electricity usage of the unit for the past 97 days with a Watt meter (February to May). We used a total of 210 kWh or 2.2 kWh per day which means that since I run it on a timer at off peak rates only, we pay just under $100 per year for our hot water.

In comparison, my old electric system (stock standard Rheem) which did not run on off-peak rates only and did not have a highly efficient heat pump in it cost me around $700 per year to run.

The unit cost me $2,570 after NSW rebates, the approximate $600 savings a year give me a 4.3 year payback time - tax free. That, in investment terms, is more than phenomenal.

I am happy and highly recommend this unit.

Edit 11/05/2018: I thought about my numbers above a bit more. In the calculation I should have actually taken the price of the unit ($2,570) minus to cost of a "traditional" non-heat pump unit. My old Rheem had given up, so I had to put something there to replace it. A replacement unit would have certainly cost me conservatively $900, so it would be reasonable to just take the "additional" cost ($2,570 - $900 = $1,670) as the base for the payback calculation. That would result in a break even point of 2.8 years. And I would expect the energy consumption to go up a bit as weather and inlet water temperatures get colder in winter. But either way, one can see that this is a heck of a unit/technology.

Update Tuesday 19 June 2018: We have been without hot water over the weekend. Turns out a plastic (!?) washer near the top sensor of the corrosion protection system had cracked. That caused a little bit of water to spill in the area and the contact of the corrosion system itself to corrode and hence it lost contact. The unit is programmed to not start up if the corrosion system is not working.

The repair process was say 5/10. I logged an online request on Saturday noon and got an auto response email (but no reference number). That online service request somehow did not get registered and it took a few calls on Monday and follow ups to get the service technician to arrive. He was very nice and knowledgeable and very willing to explain things to me. All fixed within a few minutes, Tuesday afternoon. Oh, and that plastic washer is no longer used in new models. It is now a Teflon one I am told.
