The tiles are uneven, many are not straight, corners lifted and the floor tiles are so uneven that they are a trip hazard. In several areas, silicone has been used where grout should be, resulting in a very untidy and sloppy finish. This is some of the worst tiling we have seen in a home. We also have glue visible in the joints of our laminate flooring, paint overspray on some windows, and costly VJ panelling in entry that is not flush or even in parts. These are all obvious defects that detract from the overall finish of the home. In addition, the quality of appliances and fittings is only average, with basic tapware that does not reflect a premium or high quality build. We have now been living in our home for six months. This is the second review we have written. After the first, we received a phone call from head office asking us to remove it, with the suggestion that they could not assist us otherwise. We complied with this request however no further contact or resolution has occurred. Overall, we are extremely disappointed with our finished home. It does not reflect the high standard or quality finish we expected from Stroud Homes Fraser Coast, and we regret that these issues have still not been adequately addressed.

Our site supervisor Ryan was constantly in contact with us, nothing was an inconvenience. We had plenty of walkthroughs which was essential to getting everything done right the first time.

I would definitely build with Stroud Homes again, a very professional and organised company.

Not a good experience – We shopped around with several builders in Wide Bay. up to $40 000, then later overpricing the site costs by the same amount. At Stroud homes we feel this practice is not good for the industry. We take the view that we need to respect our customers (sic) intelligence and provide accurate estimates of the homes costs wherever possible”

We’ll, we were mistaken and got a surprise increase of our build cost of over $40 000 after signing, what we thought, for a fixed price. It appears that there was a clause in their contract that allowed this to happen as the build had not commenced within 60 days. Please read your contracts carefully and get them scrutinized by a lawyer. They stated that material costs had gone up since the initial signing of the contract and that these costs would be passed on to us. Obviously upset, I called one of the Directors of Stroud Wide Bay to question this tactic and had her hang up on my phone call. Very professional.

We were sent a letter by their lawyers and told we had 2 options: 1. We could cancel the build - which would mean we would lose some of our deposit paid to Stroud for their “out of pocket expenses” and have to restart the whole process all over after several months of time, energy and commitment. We were also told that we would possibly lose our building Grants: “We note however that this may result in you losing access to any building grants you may have been approved for in signing this contract.” 2. Or we could accept the new terms and pay the extra $40 000+.

Obviously we were very upset with this tactic and our so-called dream home build turned into a nightmare before a brick was even laid.

The supervisor that was eventually placed in charge of our build did an amazing job and the house was completed on time but the initial experience left a bad taste in my mouth.

If I could go back and redo the build, I would stay well clear of Stroud Homes Wide Bay. I cannot recommend this company. I know from recent media reports that we were not an isolated case.

At the end of the build, we received handover of our new house and as our keys were handed to us we were told as a “by the way” - the insulation is not yet in the roof but will be done in the next few weeks as “there is a nationwide shortage”. Makes me wonder how a From 21 - Final inspection certificate was obtained?

Scott especially as we were not living nearby. Our new neighbours also commented on the Stroud trades people keeping the site clean and tidy (helps to have the new neighbours happy). We've now moved in and the few minor tweaks have been fixed. As a wheelchair user, I'm very happy with the functionality and layout of the home, with high quality workmanship. The final cost was above our original quote, but due to the nature of our requests (wider doorways etc), this was understandable. Looking forward to the landscaping now and enjoying our forever home.
