Hmm, I often read that on the reviews/complaints. We didn't particularly choose it because it might be quiet (there weren't many decent Sunbeam kettles left to choose from!). I can't say that I have noticed noise before now, but we also don't have an open plan kitchen/living space or apartment, the kitchen is separate, so I can see how a noisy kettle might be an issue. Actually I just tried it out and it is not overly quiet either. I'm not sure if that's helpful :) I will say it is still going very strong, no leaks and no problems with the lid or anything else (hope this doesn't jinx it!), it's much more sturdy and we have actually been quite happy with it is about all I can say.

PS - perhaps the stainless steel and glass kettles are more noisy and echo than the plastic or powder-coated/coloured ones, not sure. All the best.
