Hi - I have a sunbeam 3500 of some sort. When I put it on setting 3 - wheat I think - it's a bid faded - and then start it - it doesn't start kneading at once - there are just some "clicks" - does it not start kneading until later on?

LMMM
LMMM

Yes, It delays starting as it's meant to. Try turning the colour to dark.

Hi i just recently used my sunbeam bakehouse BM3500s bought in 2012, it was ok when i baked twice but now it suddenly stops kneading after maybe 20 minutes from a breadmix i have used twice successfully now it just stopped and cooled down. What happened.

I bought a Bakehouse Sunbeam BM3500 secondhand and wonder whether the blade is removable as in my old `breville ?

No.

This machine was given to me. Just giving it a try. Can't get the blade out. Is it removable? If not, how do you clean the pan?

Onyx n.

Not removable. Yeh.

Take the pan out and wash the inside as you would with any non stick surface. Great little machine, but forget the recipes in the book. Use any other recipe book for a smaller loaf. Not the ones in the provided manual, they are insanely wrong with quantities!!!

I am baking sourdough bread in my breadmaker. I use the dough setting initially but then need to let it proof for about 4-5 hrs. Is there a proof setting on the BM3500 that would allow it to rise with a little heat or do I need to just turn it off for a few hours? Also if I want to use bake setting to bake can I set it for longer than the 1hr its set up for? Thanks Ross

Hi Ross, I would suggest trying the wheat setting this should work for you. Thanks

I bought a sunbeam bakehouse through appliances online and it stopped working through the very first use, and that was only making pizza dough. There seems to be no power going through the machine as nothing is lighting up. I cant get any assistance from appliances on line as they are impossible to contact. Can sunbeam actually help. Im really being put off buying this brand again as i thought it was a good brand. You expect to at least get some uses out of a product.

my kneading arm keeps kneading and it doesnt bake

Sunbeam
Sunbeam   DM

Hi fisile, Thank you for your query. This would be likely related to a PCB issue. These are not able to be repaired. We can suggest once the kneading cycle time is up to place the mixture in the oven to bake.

My breadmaker squeaks incessantly whilst kneading. Where is the best place to oil?

Lisa45
Lisa45

The bread pan is very cheap metal - it distorts and things start squeaking - if it's under warranty still just return it for a new breadmaker that doesn't squeak. First, see exactly where the squeaking is - take bread pan out, put machine in knead cycle to check it's not some other part. If it is the breadpan -Oil needs to go on bottom of the breadpan, very sparing, in that bit that if you twist it, the rotor inside turns. I did this with my old one - it helped, but the pan distortion eventually stopped the rotor arm from turning and a new pan was silly-expensive (i ended up with a new breadmaker but not under warranty). So if it's under warranty, take it back. There are a number of solutions on Google if you put in "Sunbeam Bakehouse squeaking" as your search - it might not be the rotor, there are other bits, and people have solutions for those.

When do I add additives if using doing cooking?

Lisa45
Lisa45

As the machine goes through the first kneading cycle (about 15-20 minutes after it starts, before it starts actual cooking or rising), there will be a series of 8 loud beeps - that's when you add nuts/fruit/etc. If you mean "additives" like bread enhancer, add those with the dry ingredients at the beginning.

Sunbeam
Sunbeam   DM

Hi Champagne Nanna, Lisa has answered your question for you, thanks Lisa! A tip for the fruit is to toss it in a bit of flour as this will help to distribute the fruit and prevent it sinking to the bottom.

Unless the recipe states it is best to place all the ingredients in at the start and in the order specified in the recipe.

Try to be exact with your measurements and use the freshest ingredients available. This all helps to making the perfect loaf.

Enjoy!!!!

my sunbeam breadmaker does not knead the mixture nor does it give the end sound after the set hours are completed . what is wrong?

Lisa45
Lisa45

If it's not kneading it should be showing an error message (like it's overheated or something) - and if it's not kneading, not surprising it's not giving you an end of cycle noise. Sounds like you need to ring Sunbeam first, see if they can help, and then probably take it back where you bought it.

If it's never worked (and you're following the book on how to use it), after talking to Sunbeam, take it back, don't waste your time.

I am trying my Sunbeam BM3500 again as we are travelling around australia and need fresh bread. It seems to work OK but my bread is a little dense, definitely not light. We like sour dough which is hard to get in most bakeries. I tried a golden wholemeal today but still dense. Used the wheat setting which took 3.50 hours.. I also find that when it is mixing it stays in a ball and just goes round and round so I have to push it against the side so it kneads properly. Is this normal? I also dont know which recipe to use, the ones in my booklet or the ones on the boxes of Lautke breadmix. Can anyone help.

Lisa45
Lisa45

It just occurred to me, are you driving while trying to rise a loaf? That would continually knock it down, so ruin the rise. If that's not the problem, i have some suggestions. Don't use hot water or milk as that will kill the yeast - warm is ok, and you can warm the bread pan before you add your ingredients.

Have you tried using bread improver? I gave in a few years into breadmaking and discovered it's really a good product. Even Paul Hollywood uses it. It is just Vitamin C in powder form and available in purer kinds from healthfood shops (gluten free) or from Coles or Woolies (in the Baking Essentials aisles). It's one percent bread improver to total flour - so say 500g wheat flour would mean 5g bread improver.

If you're still having problems after adding the bread improver - are you keeping your yeast in the fridge? Is it reasonably fresh and sealed? (I use the ordinary powdered stuff in the canister, for a 750g loaf, 1.5 tsp yeast and about 1.5 tsp bread improver). Try a little more yeast (keep a note of how much, say 1/2 a tsp) and see if that works.

The kneading problem is one i had with heavier loaves, especially rye, in the machine - i used to just get it out, knead by hand until nice and smooth, then chuck it back in the loaf tin. The breadmaker doesn't deal well with say a rye and honey loaf. It is a cheap one, and deals better with lighter stuff.

Which recipes is a puzzler - the breadmaker recipe book is in UK/NZ tablespoon sizes and Lauke (i imagine) are Australian. The spoon that comes with the breadmaker has a 15ml tbsp =3x5ml tsp. Aussie tbsp's are 20ml or 4x5ml tsp's (and US ones are different again, at 14.7 ml per US tbsp). Providing you stick to one or the other, and know the trick with the tbsp sizes, just follow the recipe.

Good luck, i hope your bread starts turning out as you like it.

Thanks Lisa. No we aren't driving while doing the bread. I did use the bread improver but only .5 tsp not knowing how much to put in so have taken note of your advice. The last golden wholemeal loaf came out OK but I had put about 450 mls water. Not quite so dense but could be lighter. so will try only 420 mls water. On the Laucke box it says 480 mls! I used the turbo cycle. I also put it on dark crust but it didn't have a darker crust.

I am going to try the multigrain soy linseed tomorrow using the Laucke measurements (430 mls) but adding 6 g or 1.5 tsp improver as I want to make a 1 kg loaf and each packet is 600 grams of breadmix. I will also choose the longer cycle. I am keeping the yeast that came with the breadmix in the fridge too. I did buy a small box of yeast as well.

If I don't have any luck I am going to get wide breadmaker. My Sunbeam is the straight up loaf.

I really appreciate the feedback. Barbara

I find the recipes have a huge excess of flour. I notice the recipes for the BM2500 are much more normal.....Worth checking out people!

My bread maker works fine till its time to cook and it come out solid as a rock and sunken like a flat pancake. What could be wrong? I love using it but it been like this the last 4 times and no one in the house wants to eat it. I love waking up to the smell of baked bread in the morning. Help please!

Lisa45
Lisa45

It sounds like the yeast over-proving, something i have problems with in hot weather but shouldn't be happening overnight this time of year unless you have heating on? Over-proving causes sunken bread with lots of air-holes in it, and leathery crust. Make sure your flour is plain. Are you putting in warm water? Try cooler water (not iced, just not warm). Try a different batch of yeast. If you had it working before, the breadmaker itself is probably ok, but call/email the manufacturer for help if these tips don't work. Good luck!

Don't use the recipes that come with the machine! Use any other recipe for a small loaf. Fresh flour and yeast, scales and outcome guaranteed.

Hi there, we get lovely bread from our bakehouse, but cannot get the fruit and nut dispenser to work, the flap underneath opens but the seeds, nuts, or fruit stay put!!! we have to listen and shove the items down by hand, not at all what we desire, we especially wanted this feature as we often are out when the time for adding the extras is due. Is it faulty?

Lisa45
Lisa45

I'd take it back (or at least ring them) - my Sunbeam Bakehouse doesn't have this feature, but has always failed to mix properly some of the time - I peek in near the end of the kneading time and the mix is still pretty much as it went in, with liquid and flour completely unmixed. This means it can't be left by itself or on timer, and like you, i end up having to make sure it's mixed by hand (or 'by spatula' for safety). I should have taken it back when it was new, but i was a beginner with bread machines. Hope yours gets fixed.

Gerry

Make sure the Kneading arm is properly fitted and the tray is locked into place. Also try a drop of oil in the Kneading arm. Hope this works....good luck. If all fails phone the company.

Gerry.

I keep getting E02 on my Bakehouse. Reset pressing Start button but immediately error code comes back. The bread maker is not hot, left it unplugged overnight but problem continues. Can someone please help? I need my bread!

Lisa45
Lisa45

In the manual it says "“E:02” is "flashing Sensor malfunction" and that you should "Allow the baking chamber to cool, then restart your programming. If the error continues contact Customer Service on Australia 1300 881 861. New Zealand 0800 786 232"

So as you've already waited for it to cool, call Sunbeam, or if it's new, take it straight back.

My bakehouse is not actually baking. Kneads perfectly, dough rises, but doesn't bake.......

When the timer finishes the dough is still raw...... I have read the instructions back to front, ans followed the recipes exactly. Can anyone help?

Lisa45
Lisa45

Only thing i can think of is that you're using a "Dough Only" setting like "12" - that or your Bakehouse may be faulty if you're using one of the settings like "1". It's definitely supposed to bake the bread on setting "1" - takes about 3 hrs depending on loaf size. Good luck!

Thanks Lisa, I was definitely on menu 1. Bake only didn't work either. I rang Sunbeam, and they are organising an exchange. Faulty element apparently.

Must say, lovely lady in their customer care department.

I have recently purchased a sunbeam Bakehouse with a nut and grain dispenser. On the white bread setting the nut dispenser automatically opens even if there are no nuts being used. This allows a great deal of heat to escape through the open dispenser . What is the impact of this ? Is there a way around the dispenser automatically opening

Sunbeam
Sunbeam   DM

Hi Tony T, at the beginning of the cycle it makes no difference to the bread dough if heat escapes. The only time it would have an impact would be in the rising and cooking.

I was so excited I finally have a breadmaker, however all I can make are doorstoppers. I use the wholewheat setting 3. Whats going wrong? I am using surebake yeast and following sunbeam recipe for wholewheat bread.

Lisa45
Lisa45

I'm guessing you're making doorstoppers because you're not using enough yeast or sugar in your bread - and it's possibly not your fault., Sunbeam's recipe book doesn't match their tablespoon. Their tablespoon is in US/NZ (15ml) NOT in Australian 20ml tablespoons. To mess with your head, the recipe book IS in Australian tablespoons. I tried telling Sunbeam, after i finally figured out what was wrong after 2 years of too many doorstoppers - they weren't interested.

Also, i would up the yeast, depending where you are in the world. My Sunbeam white bread recipe says 1.5tsp for a 700g white loaf, but the yeast i use says 2tsp per 500 g. Quite a difference. I've found 2.5tsp works for white bread at almost sea level and in humid New South Wales. Their Wholemeal recipe says 2tsp as is heavier flour, so i'd be thinking close to 3 tsp, but maybe try 2.75 first.

Bread can be temperamental just by itself, but using incorrect measurements will completely mess it up.

Good luck!

Hi- I bought the Bakehouse just a fortnight ago and found when I followed the Sunbeam recipe book, my wholemeal loaves turned out really heavy. I use a pre-mix bread mix from Laucke, and it has a recipe on the back for a lighter loaf that uses 500g instead of 600g of flour.

I also add a touch more water and yeast. this has proved better- and I also switched to a soy and linseed mix as well. I think trial and error is the way to go!

Hi Jean, Thank you for your enquiry. If the settings on the breakmaker are set to wholemeal, it will take at least half an hour to preheat the ingredients. If you require any further assistance, please feel free to contact us on 1300 881 861 or email customercare@sunbeam.com.au (subject line: ProductReview.com.au with Sunbeam Bakehouse) with your details.
