A lemon from the start with no meaningful service! – Driving wheel shaft assembly failed two months after purchase. Not under warranty so paid $90 for the fix which took 4 months! Tried to make a pavlova and same thing happened again. Show details

Very pleased with this mixer – I recently purchased this model second hand. It is at least ten years old, and the previous owner hadn't used it a great deal but was very happy with the service it gave. It is a twin motor model and I have already used it several times with great success. I was initially a little nervous about purchasing an older model, but I am so pleased that I… Read more ·  1

got it. I'm sure there are more recent mixer models that have fancier features but I am happy with this one. It does everything that I need and does it well. I did read a lot of review before committing to buy it and was aware that quite a few users weren't very happy with it. However, I'm also aware that most people who are happy with what they have, don't do reviews! They just get on with life and enjoy their product. I do try and remember to do a review whenever I buy anything and even though this is not a new purchase, I thought my experience might be useful for anyone else thinking of investing in an older mixer.

Broken and can't be repaired – My Parents had their Sunbeam Mix Master for almost 40 years. So we asked for one on our bridal registry. Reading the other reviews, I feel lucky to have gotten 9 years out of the machine though the problem started several years earlier. Sketchy rotation of the bowl and exceptionally loud. As with everyone else, the Drive Worm Wheel wore out and… Read more

Sunbeam conveniently does not produce this part as a spare. Contacted Sunbeam and got a polite, "too bad, so sad" response. But hey, maybe their goal is to not ever have repeat customers. I certainly won't be buying anything Sunbeam ever again.

Sunbeam Mixmaster failing – I bought a Sunbeam Cafe Series Mixmaster MX8900 six years ago, my daughter also.We choose Sunbeam because of our confidence in your products. My family have always bought Sunbeam mixmasters. Most are still working after 20 to 30 years. After five years the turntable ceased on my daughters mixmaster and mine has now. Very Disappointing for a… Read more

company that was once an Icon in most Australian kitchens. I certainly will not be buying Sunbeam again.

Extremely dissatisfied.First use. It Won't even cream butter and sugar. Slow and a grating sound, – Maybe 5 years ago- my MX8900 was part of a prize .It was not needed until my old Kenwood died about 3 months ago. After first use I put the Sunbeam back in its box in disgust (. I have 3 very old Sunbeam mixers which might be collectibles. THEY still work but are quite antiquated.).  Show details

DISAPPOINTED SUNBEAM – This machine has been a real disappointment. Initially it worked well, but spare parts, namely the Drive Worm Wheel required replacement but this part (MX88138) and the beaters need replacing are NO LONGER AVAILABLE. I've searched everywhere so has my Sunbeam authorised repairer. This model MixMaster obviously had a weakness in its design or… Read more

manufacture to start with. It was also expensive in comparison to other similar mixers, to buy at the time. My previous MixMaster lasted 39 years! It appears I purchased it in preference to other brands as I hoped it would last a long time. I use my mixmaster at least once a week and now find close to Christmas i have to make another large layout for a new machine. i have alsways bought Sunbeam followed on from my Grandmother and Mother but I buy another Sunbeam appliance in future.

OK machine overshadowed by terrible customer service – Was gifted this for our wedding. Awesome machine for the first few uses. Then the rattling/wobbling started and attachments feel loose or not connected fully. Contacted sunbeam but unfortunately without the receipt there is no warranty service. This is a real shame as we are a big sunbeam kitchen (toaster, sandwich press, kettle, coffee machine,… Read more

coffee grinder and mixer stick). Although the quality of this product doesn't necessarily reflect the overall quality of their products, they are in serious risk of loosing a loyal customer due to poor customer service. Work on your customer service, sunbeam.

Poor quality – Purchased this machine for my partner and it has had occasional use over the last 5 years (a few more cakes would have been nice, which also would have manifested this design fault a lot earlier!). The Mixmaster was chosen for the fact her Grandmother, Mother, Mother in law, Aunts etc etc had all used and still use their older Mixmaster's to this… Read more

day.

As I couldn't find the receipt, hence no warranty and after looking at reviews/complaints on the net, I decided to pull the Mixmaster apart myself. Turned out to be the unavailable part MX88138 Drive Worm Wheel had worn out, big suprise. A brass moving part against a stainless steel moving part was never going to last.

After contacting Sunbeam, I have been told the part MX88109 Complete Turntable Assembly, has the Drive Worm Wheel in the kit. Looks like the Mixmaster will be get a shiny new turntable fitted aswell.

The part has been ordered through an authorized repairer, Sunbeam won't directly ship to me and hopefully this will sort the problem. However, I am dubious about the needed part been in the kit. At a total cost of $29.95 there seems to be a lot of parts been sent out at pretty reasonable price.

Still not happy that I'm repairing a mixer that seems to have a known design fault and according to Sunbeams marketing "Is built to last".

***** Part supplier has confirmed that according to Sunbeams assembly diagram the 'Drive Worm Wheel' items 78-79, are not actually part of the 'Complete turntable assembly' items 45-52. Luckily the part supplier runs an honest business. Part order cancelled, Mixmaster now in it's rightful home in the scrap bin!

Poor quality product fraught with faults – We were given this as a wedding present- though it would last for 30 years or more as my mum's old one is still going from the 80s...alas! I was so wrong. First the numbers and writing on the turning part rubbed off after first use. Replaced this (not an easy process) and the same thing happened again straight away. Next the motor kept overheating… Read more

and cutting out causing an awful electrical smell. Last straw was today when it blew up after 30 seconds of whipping cream, smoke pouring everywhere. I am so disappointed and will NEVER be being Sunbeam products again.

Beater stuck – I have only used me MM on a few occasions. While making marshmellow today beaters suddenly stopped after 5 minutes of beating on full speed, noticed eggwhite/sugar mixture had threaded up the stem of the beaters. Now beaters will not spin and cannot get one of the beaters out. Very unhappy as hardly used this machine. Also when beating with a… Read more

small amount of volume ie 2 egg whites mixture does not whip up to required volume have to use hand beater to get the mixture going and this is using small bowl! How can Sunbeam release such a faulty product onto the market totally trashing their brand??? Will be calling customer service on Monday not expecting much help.

Beaters crunch and turntable doesn't turn smoothly – I've bought my Sunbeam 850W in 2011 and haven't used it since. I run my own cake business from home and now use a simple handheld mixer. Have recently tried using said Sunbeam 850W again after long period buried away in cupboard and still no good. Turntable doesn't turn properly and beaters crunch against each other. I only use it when mix 1KG… Read more

batch of batter, otherwise back in the cupboard it goes. Did contact Sunbeam but was told to get new paddles, took months to receive but same thing happened. Not very happy as I need a large mixer for my business. Will not buy Sunbeam again.

Complete waste of Money! – Got this moor Mother's Day two years ago, have used it twice as was worried about the noise and smell it made. Life gets busy it gets put in the cupboard. First time I've dragged it out today and it's metal area around where you put the beaters have corroded!!!! Omg what a piece of rubbish! my husband bought it for me as I used to rave over my mums old one.

Badly designed – It was never very good at mixing but the base that screws onto the bowls gets water in it when washed which is impossible to get out. The screws then rust which makes the base drops off and then the bowl can't be secured to the mixer. I rang customer service and was told that it was my fault as I should have been air drying it (contrary to the… Read more

instruction manual which says to wash with hot soapy water and then wipe dry). I was also told I could buy a new bowl for $52.00 I asked customer service if the bowl could be fixed and they said that it couldn't. I showed it to my husband and it took him 3 minutes to fix by replacing the rusted screws with good quality stainless steel screws. The mixer had hardly been used. Sorry Sunbeam, poor design and even poorer customer service. You've dropped the ball on this one.

Disappointed Rubish – Purchased this machine and 18 months later the lower motor died. Under warrantee Sunbeam replaced it. The replacement might have been a 'return' from someone else as the numbers on the dial wore off, the beaters wouldn't pop out easily and the tilt stuck and required force to lift. Just over five years later the lower motor has died again. A… Read more

review below mentioned the cogs, it sounds like these are what died. This machine was $480 when purchased, the replacement won't be a Sunbeam.

Blame it on the mixer!! – Good wife dusted off the MX8900 we had for just over 5 year to mix some cup cakes for youngest daughters 9th birthday. The turntable stopped spinning and made lots of noise. Upon inspect found lots of brass filings and a stripped gear. I didn't expect it to wear out this easy specially when it's only used half a dozen times per year. Having had… Read more

great sunbeam products before this mixer has definitely put a question mark in my mind of the brand. Needless to say the birthday celebration wasn't the same without the cupcakes!!

Longevity below brands expectation

Don't bother replacing the gear - the same thing will happen, take it from someone who went to the trouble to repair.
