Rubbish product... Non existent servicing – Motor burned out on third use after being stored away for a year, and we found that servicing options in Geelong are non existent. Have to travel to Melbourne (100km) for service. Won't be buying Sunbeam again! Show details
Disappointed with MX8900W Sunbeam Mixmaster – I have had a problem with the bowl rotating gears disintegrating also. I only had mine about 2 years when it started to make a grating noise. I contacted Sunbeam and of course I was told that it was out of warranty so I would have to pay to have it repaired. I continued to use it as I didn't think I should have to pay to have it fixed when it was… Read more
only a couple of years old. The noise became so bad and metal shavings were being left on my bench top so I had to stop using it. I have a old style Sunbeam Mixmaster that I have had for 30 years and it is still going, though a button has gone off the bottom of the beater. Rather than spend the money on getting new beaters I though I would upgrade to a better model, so I bought the MX8900W. I thought I was upgrading but have been severely disappointed. It actually even beats slower than my old one. Considering it has a bigger motor, I would have thought it would beat faster. I have gone back to using my 30 year old mix master, even though the beater has lost the button it still does a better job than the MX8900W. I will have to purchase a new one soon but I won't be buying another Sunbeam.
Poor support from Sunbeam - discontinued cannot get parts – Have used this successfully over 5 years but it started to make noises and authorised repairer said (earlier this year) could not get needed parts for it any more. Poor service not to support a 5 year old mixer Compare this with Kenwood Chefwhich worked for more than 20 years.

Rotating bowl issue – Less than 5 years old and probably used average once per month, maybe less! Rotating bowl gears disintegrated. No spare parts available. Seems little point in buying the more expensive, supposedly more robust models when they last no longer, and cannot be repaired. Very disappointed in a brand that no longer synonymous with quality.

Sunbeam Mixmaster Fail – The small plastic cogs inside failed on the machine after some strong dough was put through, I tried to replace these parts and no where stocks them, called Sunbeam to get them and they wouldn't provide them either. There goes $300 bucks for less than 4 years! What a disposable society this kind of company are creating! Never again!
So disappointed with this Sunbeam appliance – This machine has been a real disappointment. Initially it worked well, but spare parts, namely the Drive Worm Wheel and Transmit Shaft very quickly required replacement but these parts (MX88138) are NO LONGER AVAILABLE. I've searched everywhere so has my Sunbeam authorised repairer. The numbers on the dial also disappeared very quickly. This… Read more
model MixMaster obviously had a weakness in its design or manufacture to start with. It was also expensive in comparison to other similar mixers, to buy at the time. My previous MixMaster lasted 38 years! It appears Sunbeam no longer uses quality parts. I won't buy any Sunbeam appliances in future.
Poor Quality Product!! – I received this product for a Wedding present. I loved the look of it and initially was very happy. I used it occasionally over a 2 year period and one day i noticed it was struggling to turn the mixing bowl- making grinding crunching sounds. Luckily it was under warranty so it was replaced however this wasn't an easy process. I had the next one… Read more
for under two years and have probably used it less than the first unfortunately the same thing has happened again. The motor!! Poor poor quality product. Two machines both times the motor has blown up, this was an expensive item hardly ever used. I will never buy Sunbeam again.
No Spare parts available – My MX8900W was my pride and joy. Taking after my Nanna and my mum who had their Sunbeam mixmasters for years on end Sunbeam was my only choice and despite the lure of upgrading with a kitchenaid or a thermomix, I maintained that my sunbeam was the best mixmaster for show baking. When the bowl rotating mechanism started playing up I rang to be… Read more
informed that replacement parts are not made anymore. To say I am devastated is an understatement. How can Sunbeam maintain their pledge to prouduce products of the highest quality. Maybe 30 years ago they did but certainly not today. I feel sick throwing the mixmaster out, it is still in immaculate condition and it just seems like such a waste, not to mention the sentimental loss. Gutted.
Stripped brass worm drive, no spare parts avail – Similar problem, no parts and having to turn the bowl by hand. Contacted customer service and they have offered 30% off RRP of a similar item. Will try and bodge a repair otherwise its theirnoffer of another product on the market. Still not very happy, these units are not cheap.
How long is long enough – We bought this after my wife's Mum had her sunbeam for 20 years.... We purchased the 8900 and two weeks later returned it after the motor burnt out. The replacement one has lasted 6 years and tonight the motors are letting off an awful burnt smell, we've read these reviews and realise our chances of replacement parts and repairs looks… Read more
bleak......but the issue for us is 6 years a decent enough run for a Model that had a 5 year warranty. The warranty should give some reassurance it will last for a few years beyond that period. Yep we're disappointed.
Doesn't last
Disappointed – We used an assortment of second-hand mixers for about 18 years before finally deciding to buy a new Mixmaster. After splashing out and getting as close as possible a match to Mum's old Sunbeam we bought the Sunbeam MX 8900w. It went for a couple of years. It then broke down and got shelved. I pulled it out and had a go at repairing it this… Read more
morning. Brass gear at bottom stripped, both gears at top stripped. Having seen the internal damage to the machine and reading the reviews I think Sunbeam would have known this was a design fault within a very short time. The gears are badly designed. It is disappointing Sunbeam did not withdraw this product immediately.
It is obviously not worth chasing parts that are going to do the same thing. It is into the bin.
Does anybody have a machine they have used for say 5 years and is still going? It must be possible to make them as the old Mixmasters went for decades, with heavier use.
Thanks
Very poor quality gear mechanism, not economically repairable.
Had the exact same problem with ours, we got it second hand but as new. Within 6 months the gear… Read more
Let down by Sunbeam – We had a Sunbeam Mixmaster for 48 years, it never missed a beat, but when it started to have an intermittent connection (frayed flex, now fixed and going strong), we decided it was time to update. New one was ok, used about once every 2 weeks, very noisy and ran hot. Last week it made a strange noise somewhere in the beater gearing. Took it to… Read more
the service agent who told me that parts are no longer available, throw it in the bin!!!!
Unacceptable service from Sunbeam, we recommend that you DO NOT BUY this product. it is rubbish. Motor driven bowls, easy to use. Very bad service from manufacturer, obsolete after only 2 years is not good enough
Hi Bushy, could you please contact our Consumer Support Team on 1300 881 861 to discuss further.
Sad and early death – This work well until just beyond warrantee. Early trouble with beaters not quite synchronized, so that they crunched. Had Strong Man bend one slightly and worked without the concerning crunching. But only for about a year when the less than adequate motor expired. Symptoms of imminent death were failure of beaters, whiskers or knead ears to… Read more
move at all. "Gears stuffed" said repair person. Will not buy another sunbeam. Heading off to get the mixmaster of my dreams now. Hang the expense! Good bowls and array of attachments Burnt out motor despite kind treatment.

Gears failed – My experience is exactly the same as many others. We had ours almost 3 years to the day before it come to a grinding halt. Opened it up ad saw what looked like gold dust all around the base of the motor, the brass gear had worn down. Why would anyone use a brass gear? I'm guessing because it's cheap but obviously brass wont last very long. We… Read more
bought this model because we thought Mixmasters had a good reputation and thought we were buying a quality product. Sadly mistaken. When it worked we loved it. Did not last long enough.

Gears failed in Turntable – I have used my mix master for 3 years, it started making an awful noise in the bottom last year, so have used it sparingly. I needed to use it about a month ago, and the turntable made a grinding noise and stopped turning. When we pulled it apart the gears had ground, and there were metal shavings all over the bench. We were told by a Sunbeam… Read more
agent that the part was no longer available to fix it.
The numbers on the dial showing the different levels and uses have also worn off. I am really disappointed with the mix master, my mother has a Sunbeam mix master that she received as a wedding present in 1967 and is still using it today, it is as good as the day it was first used. The bowls were a good size and like that they were metal rather than glass expensive for the use that I have had out of it

A load of rubbish! – My daughter bought 1 of these mixers and at first was impressed, she then also bought 1 as a present for my wife. Two birthday cakes and a few cup cakes later my daughters unit burnt out, the gears were always very noisy, our mixer had probably been used half a dozen times when my daughter borrowed it , it started to sound like a grinding machine… Read more
then whilst half way through making a sponge cake the motor quit on ours, she let it cool a while and it restarted, managed to finish her cake with a few stops to cool it off. Not a product you could recommend to anyone unfortunately. Tried to run it today but needed to turn it off after a short while
Always very noisy, no life expectancy at all!
