Perfect but hopefully the bl5151 doesn’t have the same problem as the bl3451 – Gutted just purchased a new electric blanket the bl5151 (as we loved our old one) which was the bl3451.... only to find out our old one which looks like it has a common problem. The controller starts flashing and will not heat. Tried swapping it out with the other controller but still flashed and would heat, but both controllers work on the good side. Hopefully this is the reason that model has be discontinued, as I do love them Show details ·  1

Sunbeam products are garbage – Everything's made in China but the good companies have some quality control measures, Sunbeam do not. 2 controllers dead same side and Sunbeam drooling to sell you over priced parts. That's how cheap and scummy companies make their profit, engineered redundancy products. This is a HarveyNorman sold product  Show details

BL3451 2 Months after expiry of a 3 year Warranty. Sunbeam Replaced The Blanket – 2 months after expiry of a 3 year warranty the heating element failed. No problems ever experienced with the controllers. Contacted Sunbeam they replaced the faulty blanket even with though the warranty had expired. No complaints from us . Thank You Sunbeam.

Perfect Winter gift – Gave this blanket as a gift to a friend and they rave about it. They love the fleecy underlay because it is still giving warmth even after the blanket has been switched off. The fact that it is a fitted blanket and not one that has to be tied on is a big plus.

No problems. Excellent blanket – Love this electric blanket. The thermostat works really well so you can heat the bed to a really low heat on one side (for my husband) and a sensible heat (for me). Very small cables so you don't feel them under a matress protector. Heats up really quickly (in 10 mins) so don't have to turn it on hours early and waste power. Sunbeam… Read more ·  2

explains that they have a power overload system that cuts in if you have power blackouts or surges. If the surges are severe this makes the controllers not work and they will have to be replaced. You can avoid this by using a surge proof powerboard. I got one of these as we have frequent power blackouts and have had no problems with the blanket.

I think people have to understand that electric blankets can be very dangerous and any safety feature will have its drawbacks. I am glad sunbeam have these safety devices.

At one shop I went to there were 6 blankets from another manufacturer behind the counter all of which didn't work! I wouldn't write off Sunbeam just because of an avoidable safety feature. I love the blanket. Works really well. Thermostat sticks to the set temperature and doesn't overheat. The queen size really is a queen size and it fits a thick mattress with a good stays-in-position elastic band. Easy to use. Can't feel the cables beneath a matress protector. Sensibly placed conectors etc so you can't feel them. Nothing. A great blanket at a great price. Didn't pay anywhere near the price above.

Planned obsolescence? – This was great until just after the three year warranty ran out. Then one side stopped working, the dreaded flashing blue light, followed two weeks later by the other side. Lesson learnt: the replacement won't be another Sunbeam. If you read through the reviews of this product, look at those for blankets over a couple of years old. I really liked it too, until the warranty's expiry was followed by the blanket's.  Show details

So disappointed – I bought my electric blanket at Myers. Not sure of the date but it was at the beginning of winter. My last sunbeam electric blanket lasted me for over 15 years and never a problem. I thought to change it as it was very old and was worried if it wasn't as efficient. My new fitted one after about a month it stopped working on one side. I ignored it… Read more

Terrible - 4 blankets in 3 years – This is the worst electric blanket ever, but only one I can find to fit a super king size bed. Each blanket only lasts 9 months tops before refusing to heat up, and the controller flashing/switching off. Don't waste your money!  Show details

Great – Super warm blanket that I use every single night before I go to sleep. Takes a small amount of time to warm up the bed, and warms up the entire bed before I go to sleep every single night. Got it at a decent price so it was well worth the money, in terms of it being the safest and best blanket.  Show details

Sunbeam Plush Safe and Sound fitted Electric blanket – We bought what we thought was a Premium Market Sunbeam Plush Safe and Sound Electric Blanket, after 3 and a bit years the right hand side of blanket controller no longer works. Having it repaired cost more than the premium price we paid, Any more peeved of customers??

Rubbish controllers – We have two Sunbeam electric blankets. Both have had failed controllers. I have purchased replacement controllers but now that another has failed we will replace the whole blankets with a different brand. We expected Sunbeam to be a quality brand and have trouble believing that they would continue to sell this rubbish knowing that it has problems. It tends to tarnish your impression of the Sunbeam overall!!!!

Dodgy controllers – I have had 3 Safe and Sounds fitted - one wool fleece queen (very expensive), and two single for the kids -expensive. Same problem with all - red light flashed on the controller and wouldn't heat. Replaced with Aldi and Kmart brands. They do the same job, are fitted and are still working. I agree with other customers. It appears the controllers are designed to fail to boost spare part sales.

Lousy product – Have replaced 5 controllers to date on blanket. Absolute rubbish product. Have a single with same controller, on spare bed, used twice and failed. power off at wall when not in use and no way caused by any power spike. No sympathy from Sunbeam. Never buy this product. Because of company attitude will not recommend any Sunbeam product. Considering Fair Go!

Throw it in the RUBBISH!!! – Last year bought a new controller $60 then 1 year later the red light flashes & its not heating up, now the other side has the red light flashing so now that's broken. I'm thinking how many controllers do I need to buy. It's time I just go buy a cheap one. Forget about Sunbeam it's utterly rubbish!!!

Sunbeam rubbish – This is the third sunbeam electric blanket I have owned and all have failed on me. When it is working it is great but they seem to only last half a winter. The controller on my side is flashing like someone else mentioned. No rhyme or reason just started doing it last night and can't fix it. Back to the shop once again.

BL3451 SAFE & SOUND FITTED - INAPPROPRIATE NAME, PRICE AND QUALITY (RUBBISH) – Hi bought one of these in 2012 used for three months of each year since and this year the right hand controller began flashing and hence does not heat that side of the bed. the washer and it was fitted.

I emailed Sunbeam and inquired where I could get it fixed and to date did not receive a response. Inadequate customer service Sunbeam and with an Inferior quality product, considering I used this product for 10 months in total of it's life span. My partner has a Lumina electric blanket from Aldi which has lasted years and that only cost $50 for QS.

Sunbeam you ought to be ashamed of the quality your producing just for profit. Bought a Sunbeam kettle not long ago after the 2nd boil it began leaking. Utter rubbish. I'd rather throw my money in the bin rather than buy any other Sunbeam products!

Thought I was going to end up toast! Scary!! – OMG! I smelled an electrical burning smell and jumped out of bed with such a fright. The controls both have now blown up and gave me such a scare - I honestly thought the bed had caught alight. This is a terrible product. The blanket "fit" nicely around my bed but only lasted a couple of years...such a waste of money. Do not buy this product under any circumstances...I worry about how safe this 'safe' and sound product is.

Disappointing – Have purchased 2 Sunbeam Electric Blankets in 5 years. Both just stopped heating one day (both on the right side) for no apparent reason. While they are great while working, we won't be buying sunbeam again

They have a problem with their product – The Sunbeam BL3451 has a basic fault: we have had two over five years and both have failed on one side only - not the controller, we have tried both controllers on either side and one side works with either controller - something wrong with the wiring.

Another controller failure - replaced with Product from another company – The blanket was lovely when it worked, which it did for almost 2 winters in a row. Almost. Loved the fast warm up. Loved the switch off after Xtime options. Needed a mattress protector wool, overlay to avoid the feeling of lying on the wires, but that was OK. This winter? Nope, the RH controller stopped working. other side to warm my feet on when I first get into bed.

Read about all the other failures with controls. And then bought a new blanket As a replacement from another manufacturer.

Any company that has this many failures and sells a product whose control only works for less than 2'years (come on, that's terrible!) and hasn't fixed the problem by now isn't one I'll return to.

I feel bad about throwing out the whole blanket, but what's the point in throwing good money after bad? Because if one controller went on the photo after less than 2 years, why would I shell out for another? I've voted with my feet. Switch off overlay, toasty warm, flexible heat settings Controller failure - not just an isolated instance, obviously

Don't buy sunbeam electric blankets – Bought an expensive electric blanket but it always fails. Once again another sunbeam electric blanket owner having a cold winter. A short search on google will show you how this problem is consistent and on going. The controllers just start to blink one day and don't heat. Think twice before purchasing this product. Great when it worked One side doesn't work, lasted one winter.

Disappointed – I bought my Queen sized electric blanket on the recommendation of my son. I liked the idea that it was fitted and it looked good. I was happy with the fast heating. to the other side of the bed. I have used it only twice this year, and now the second control is blinking and there is no heat.

I can buy a "Genuine Sunbeam" replacement controller on-line for about $50 plus postage, but after reading so many bad reviews I am wondering if it would be better to invest that money in a new blanket. Fits well. Heats quickly. Controls unreliable. Sunbeam obviously not interested in solving the problem, despite so many failures .

Waste of money – I am so so disappointed. I took 3 of these blankets back to be exchanged because the controllers packed it in. I wrote 2 letters with no response. Now, with this new blanket, the controller only goes for 2 settings 9 hours or 1 hour. If I have an early night, I wake up in the morning freezing because it has timed out 2 hours earlier. Waste of money.

Great blanket rotten controllers – Purchased the Sunbeam Safe & Sound electric blanket as we had been very happy with Sunbeam products in the past. The blanket itself is excellent quality but the controller reliability is pathetic. One controller failed after several months and we returned the blanket to David Jones where the whole unit was replaced under warranty. Within a month… Read more

one controller on the new blanket failed and shortly after, the second. I contacted Sunbeam who did replace the "faulty" units. Within three weeks one of the replacement controllers failed. In disgust and because we wanted a reliable blanket which the Sunbeam Safe & Sound had proven itself not to be, we purchased an Onkaparinga blanket which, while to our minds, is not as well made as the Sunbeam, is at least is very reliable. We now have a second choice blanket that works well and a Sunbeam Safe & Sound blanket of excellent quality that is useless because of unreliable controllers. We would not recommend anyone purchase one of these blankets until Sunbeam have overcome the problem of these faulty and unreliable controllers. The quality of the actual blanket is excellent Four controllers have failed

Worthless – We used to routinely and happily buy Sunbeam products. No longer after this. As everyone else is saying in words of fire. The blanket itself is fine, the controllers are useless. Another dissatisfied customer – Over the years I've been very happy with several Sunbeam products, which is why I bought this one. Like others here, we don't mind paying for quality. quite simply sub-standard. Not because they are "Made In China", but logically because Sunbeam's technical staff specified a sub-standard product from the Chinese manufacturer.

As there's no guarantee that new controllers will last longer than a few months we are in the market for a new blanket to replace what we thought was the high end, premium quality Sunbeam. What a waste. The new one wont have electronic controllers, and after this very disappointing experience I seriously doubt it will be a Sunbeam.

Expensive controllers prone to failure rendering an otherwise good blanket useless.

helping as obviously I do not have a receipt.

Now I'm stuck with a product that's faulty.

I'm sure this particular style was brought out at certian time which would determine when this product was purchased and there should be a way to replace it or refund it without the receipt.

For such a large well known company you would think they would be a little more helpful and much more lenient considering the amount of reviews with the same problem.

I have always purchased sunbeam for all my kitchen appliances but will reconsider in the future- why pay top dollar for "quality" if this is what happens. Also very unlikely anything will be done looking at previous reviews. Very very disappointing!!!
