Gen 3 terrible telstra service modem died

My gen 3 router just died today. Rang telstra on the phone and asked if I took it to a telstra shop if I could have it replaced. They said that they had to wait 3 to 5 days to have it replaced. I run a business from home and this does not help me when I need a seemless line so that I can keep my products turning over. This is a very average modem and wish telstra would sell garbage product. Show details

Great Telstra marketing but terrible product

After the great marketing by Telstra telling us the gen 3 is 60% faster than the gen 2 we decided to upgrade also purchasing two extenders which are only compatible with the gen 3 modem, we have made a big mistake as the modem is absolute garbage, just stops working for no reason
We have just had our 3rd Telstra gen 3 modem stop working in the last 3 months, we only had this one for 3 weeks, Telstra have been great in replacing them but we are over the inconvenience and are moving on to another provider, we also have two useless extenders as they are not compatible with any other modem, while Telstra persists using these modems I would would not recommend using them, Show details

Good but bad

worked good at first, then after a storm it was dead, had a replacement but it keep to drop out and now, after a few weeks only, it seems to be completely out of action.
I don't recommend this modem, it's a money trap, unless maybe you're lucky. Show details

Avoid this modem

Utter rubbish. Every time there is a power failure it takes hours to get the internet back correctly. Now it’s so stuffed up, half of the connected devices say they have no connection. I hate this modem so much. Show details

USELESS!

It's not worth the material it's made out of! The item has a very poor delivery and if one was to add a booster (or two), it wouldn't make any difference. It's just a money grabbing gimmick. I have put up with it for over a year, with constant outages, dropouts and poor quality service. Third World concept! Show details

Telstra Smart Modem 3 -Ive now had two of them and they are terrible

I’ve self-employed and now had two of these modems from Telstra. They are really bad. I’m in a small area (less than 50sqm) and the fixed internet and Wi-Fi keep dropping out. I’ve lost well over two week’s productivity battling Telstra (via their app) to fix the issue. Telstra keep blaming NBN- NBN tests prove them wrong again and again. Finally I’ve given up - went to my local Harvey Norman store - purchased a cheaper (and much better Modem) outright and it hasn’t missed a beat. Show details

I have gone through 4 of these modems in 12 months

When I moved to NW I received a new Telstra Smart late last year. In April 2023 it stopped working and was replaced by Telstra . In July 2023 it stopped working and was replaced. In November (last week) it stopped working and has been replaced. 4 modems in just over 12 months. I have had the electrical wiring checked. I purchased a circuit protector, but this was ineffective. Clearly this product is faulty and I have experienced constant interruptions whilst waiting for a new modem. Why does Telstra keep replacing the same modem with the same product which clearly has a problem. I am considering changing internet providers because of this constant faulty product. Cannot convince Telstra this is a faulty product

Telstra gen 3 modem

Back earlier in the year I gave 5 stars, easy to set-up and reconfigure to old ssid and passwords, makes connections to devices set-up easy to older previous generation telstra modem, BUT this is 2nd gen 3 as my first failed, sent me a refurbished replacement hmm....even the staff were great. They didn't however recommend it Show details

The best modem for NBN

I am extremely happy with this because it has a battery backup in them so I won't have to worry about any more outages, which means I can keep using the internet as normal. Show details

Telstra crap service/support for this modem

Recently upgraded from nbn copper to fibre to the home, what a mistake!
Been with telstra over 15 years, adsl then nbn copper, no problems.
Since upgrading to full fibre to the home Telstra supplied new modem Telstra Gen3"smart modem" nothing but problems.
Constantly get fault messages, wifi connected without internet . Tried to connect directly via Ethernet cable same thing. Got replacement modem ,same issue. Connected old modem pre gen3 , everything works but telstra say we can't use it. They don't know why gene modem won't work.

Given the known problems with this modem why do you replace like for like and you are not investigating the problems with this Gen 3 modem. I live remote and my modem has now failed four times in 12 months and I have to wait a week before replacement. Our local Telstra agent says the problems with Gen 3 modems are well known and that I am not alone. Please replace them with something more reliable.

5 modem in 6 weeks each one has died within a week of getting it, one even within hours
Telstra staff try to be helpful but each time is an hour on phone or chat and I’m over it
Have now requested gen 2 to see if it is any better.

I think the version 21.4 firmware (current) is faulty. Sadly you cannot stop firmware updates.

I bought my modem through the Telstra shop and they were able to exchange it on the spot.

My modem used to show a green light at the front, but now shows a blue light. Internet is working, should I be worried about this.

Probably means you have switched to the mobile back up. Is it slow?

The modem is several cheap European devices shoved in a black box and badged as Telstra, id look at purchasing a wireless router instead.
