I have a mx5050 toro about 2018 model. Purchased new. Under 100 hours I had two deck spindles fail, numerous bolts throughout the machine come lose, fuel pump stopped working, battery fail, 200 hrs brake box fail, head gasket blown, stripped exhaust manifold bolt. The machine is literally constantly in my shed getting one repair or another to keep the machine going at 218 hrs. Not good Toro

Hi Denis, It is beyond the scope of the review site to give you a diagnosis on your particular machine. Your local Toro dealer will be happy to assist with the required repairs. You can search for you nearest dealer at external link ?

The new Chinese motor is useless. I have had exactly the same problem from new and was told by the dealer that I can’t claim warranty because it is probably contaminated fuel. My solution … sell the Toro and buy something else.

What brand motor is on this mower ??

Ton`

It is a Toro engine with Overhead cams. It is a shocking engine valves constantly needs adjusting it backfires when shut down as mentioned start issues but also the dust filtration is not good resulting in one engine replacement already. For me never a Toro again if in warranty all good, as soon as out of warranty you are on your own.

I've had the MX5050 for a couple of years and it's fine for getting over a few acres quickly but it's an expensive bugger to service. My question is does anyone use the hose port to clean under the cutting deck - I did that after each major mow and when I returned it to the dealer for service they said water had seeped into the bearings and they had to replace the bearings each time. In just over two years it's gone through two full sets of bearings and the dealer is now telling me to keep water away from it. Which is different to what was originally stated. I'm wondering why Toro build in a hose cleaning attachment if you can't use it!

I've tried using the hose connection, but it never seemed to work. I have a lot of any bills, so too much mud. I have had mine for 3 years and no bearing problems. They have replaced the engine under warranty once.

I've had mine for about 2 years with no bearing issues. My dealer's advice (which I always followed) was to let the mower cool down before washing, otherwise the hot bearings suck in water as they cool down and contract. I generally mow early, then park my mower in shade for a couple of hours before washing. Regarding the washing port, every brand of hose coupling is slightly different. I had a "cheapo" Gardenia (Bunnings) hose end which always popped off the wash port. When I replaced our hose end with a quality fitting (which happened to be Toro brand), I've never had a problem. Oh, and make sure you lift your deck to max height before engaging the blades to wash!

Thanks guys for your help. I let the mower cool too before using the hose port and engaging the blades. But interesting that you have the deck at maximum height. The dealer originally told me to have it on the lowest setting. I’ll follow your advice. Thanks again.

Is this machine suitable for small commercial operations? Areas of mow between 1 to 3 acres on domestic lawns.

Mickey D

I would say absolutely. It has a good solid deck. 42" cut.

Yes, I have an acre to mow and for laughs, I mow my neighbours vacant block (1/2 acre) s well as he is away all the time and he gives me beers as payment. Put it in mow setting and it will make quick work of it

Who makes toro motors & what is their reliability on replacement parts if needed?

J.G.

Toro engines used to be made by Tecumseh. They are no longer in business, so I have heard.

The engines Toro uses now are either made by Briggs & Stratton or Kohler. Either of them have a quite good parts network.
