Reliable and Economical – The Toyota Camry is an unexpectedly pleasant surprise. It drives more smoothly than the older Camry models we had tried in the past, and it is economical to run. Parts range in price, with some simple plastic parts being a little expensive, but generally it is a very economical car to run and maintain. It's particularly economical for… Read more

long-distance travel. The dashboard is easy to see, and my husband loves the cruise-control. What has impressed us is its incredible reliability - it just never misses a beat. It came to us with a gungy engine, but after running it on Premium petrol for awhile, that cleaned it up, and it is a beautiful car to drive. Even though it is supposed to be E10-friendly, I wouldn't recommend using that fuel, as I notice a difference in the engine's quietness and general running whenever I use Caltex or BP Premium as opposed to 91. There is plenty of legroom, so it would make a good family car. The cushioning in the seats is also quite comfortable, although it probably depends on how well the seats have been looked after.

My dashboard MELTED – I am beyond disappointed with Toyota. Our dashboard in our 2006 Camry melted - yes MELTED! In the US they have recalled all cars with melting dashboards and replaced them for free. In Australia, it's case-by-case and despite approaching Toyota when my car was 8 years old, they refuse to fix it. It will cost me $1500 to replace what is clearly a… Read more

manufacturing issue - call me crazy but I thought we should expect that our car won't MELT?

I'm not only bitterly disappointed by Toyota's decision not to help fix this issue, but also by their attitude. They are not interested in helping us, they have been rude and dismissive, the local dealer was incredibly rude and said "If you'd serviced the car with us and shown us some kind of loyalty, maybe we'd help". We don't service with Toyota because they're double the price of our local mechanic!

My advice: Don't buy a Toyota and get stuck with a giant problem like us. They are very shortsighted, I'm in my 30s and have a 2-car family. I have decades of car-buying days ahead of me for me, my husband and our kids - and we will never buy a Toyota again.

Triple wow. A Sportivo model is excellent – Have had a 2005 4cyl sportivo for three years to Dec 2015. The car had been used as a service/loan vehicle by a local dealership which I reckoned meant it had to have been regularly serviced and maintained by Toyota professionals. Cost $10,000. The ride is and always has been excellent. Very comfy seating front and rear and fully adjustable to… Read more

personal preference. New tyres all round when bought and most important for Toyota vehicles, a front wheel alignment. Transmission is reliable. Some small grabs means it probably needs the belts tightening in 2015. Braking is superb, did I say superb. Impressive exterior that holds its own even all these years later. Petrol consumption is as per the book still and minimal oil losses between changes. Runs an ethanol mix just fine. These cars lose the lighting for the clock etc panel. As I don't use it, it remains in the dark. No problem.

Security has engine disarm when the key is off and a flashing led to warn wannabe burglars to keep off or suffer long loud tooting. Excellent boot size and the rear seats have fold downs that allow about 2.4 metre lengths to be transported. Have now installed rear backing cam and carcam.

Love this car – It's like this - the Camry is the perfect family car (note - small family). It's really reliable, cheap to run and maintain, it's comfortable and still a pretty good looking car even after 15 years. I would happily recommend the Camry and would buy another one in a heartbeat, if the 3 kids weren't getting so big.  Show details

Good for seat but not really good for drive – I usually use my Camry V6 for travelling on highway, which is from Brisbane to Gold Coast, I've driven this car for almost 7 months and I reckon that every time I got 3 passengers with me they are satisfied with their leg room and such, it's comfort for seating but driving this car is a bit tired. The steering is so heavy that I found it tired to… Read more

drive when parking, and the steering is shaking when driving on the highway. But the good point of this car is it got enough power to drive on highway, and it doesn't need much maintenance.

Has a few small issues, but still a great family car – + The Altise looked nice in the mettalic silver, and for the first few years, it was an awesome car. - After a few years small issues arose. Power window circuit board went $400 replace. The roof lining gave way on all four corners. The central locking plays up in weather conditions. I would buy a toyota again, but will read reviews first. As the issues i have had seem to be a somewhat common one with my model of Altise.  Show details

Consumes a lot of petrol – The driving experience is average, it has decent enough horse power to drive up steep hills, but make sure to replace the tyres once in a while as it can slip on rainy days, since it is a car on the heavier side. We noticed this consumes a very large amount of fuel, we drive this daily to work with very short trips (<1.5km each way), and… Read more

Great car – l bought a new toyota camry in 2003, l still have it and its done 320,000 and still drives very well, l have never had any serious problems with it and its never broken down once on the road, but l get it serviced regularly with a good mechanic, who knows it might last anther ten years and go to 500,000 km. l recommend if you want a reliable car, but l can only speak for the 2003 model l hope the other years are as good

The most reliable car – I have owned many cars when i was in middle east my first car was lancer which was good on fuel but less spacious and weak body, then I bought nissan altima which was a pleasure to drive but still not the best in terms of room and space, I even bought Mitsubishi Challenger. Best Car I've Had for Cheapest Cost – I purchased a 2006 V6 Altise Sport off a colleague at work - 168,000 km for 5000 after he was offered 3000 trade on a new car purchase. I faultlessly drove this dutiful car from Roma to Moranbah and Roma to Brisbane fortnightly. I drove 35,000 km a year in the time I had this car - a mammoth task. routine. I never spent a cent more than the essentials, in the country I got 800 km out of a 60 litre tank, in the city closer to 650-700 from premium. It used to overtake roadtrains with a satisfying pulse at about 140 kw, an underpowered V6 when compared to Australian stablemates the Commodore and Falcon, but with 10 times the build quality and longevity. It even survived a Roo strike, safely stoving in the hood and needing minor panel replacement.

When I moved back to the city it once again performed admirably, driving 800 km a week as I commuted from Toowong to Coomera daily. The one breakdown I had was due to a flat battery. I kept driving it until 285,000 km at which point I purchased a Toyota 86 to treat myself after such a sensible and frugal investment. This car saved me thousands. My little sister still drives it - 340,000 km and only now showing its age at 200,000 km more than a regular car.

In stark contrast the Ford Territory I drive now, at 5 years old and 80,000 km at purchase has not hit 140,000 km and is plagued with electrical faults, constant cut outs in power under load when the gearbox shifts down a gear, bugs and problems. I've spent over 10,000 fixing a car I paid 4 times more for.

Next car? Another beautiful, no brainer Camry. Life is too short to waste money on a depreciating asset used for commuting. Do yourself a favour - if you find one of these with under 180,000, buy it knowing you will spend about 5000 on a car that can last another 100,000 km on a shoestring.

Amazing car....love it! – Excellent car, it has now down 330,000 kms and still doing amazing. I recommend synthetic oil and using high octane fuel. Although my servicing history is a bit substandard. This car is amazing to drive, corners well, good acceleration and extremely comfortable even at its high kms. Love my car but will be updating to the Aurion Sportivo next year. Loved it – Loved my Camry Azura Bought it 2nd hand in 2007 with 100,000 km already on it. Has run fantastically till now. I am up to 320,000 km and starting to have those little issues. The motor runs fine and probably will keep going forever. Issues starting to happen are electrical door locks not locking, air con not working (not just gas), alternator issues, electric seats wont move, and other minor issues.  Show details

Great car, exactly what you would expect – I recently sold my immaculate 2008 Ford Focus hatch. It was pretty and red and only had 120,000km on it. It was also a lemon and I hated it. a better car. I paid not much for it as it was a bit grubby, and the white paint was a little chalky (but the servicing was done and mechanically it was perfect). $200 for a cut and polish, and an interior shampoo and it is a new car. Not even any shopping trolley marks on it. I couldn't be happier with it. I drive an hour each way to work and it's quiet and smooth, no rattles or squeaks and everything works perfectly. Great for a 13yo car for sure. I've owned 2 other Toyotas and they were terrific. Had a Toyota Yaris from new that I traded in at 200,000km and never spent a cent on.

The best 2nd hand car you can get – I bought a 2.4g Camry auto 2004 few months ago as a car for young family. It has 160k km on its odo but the engine and transmission are like new. After few months of driving found quiet long list of repairs, but all parts are cheap (f.e. bushings, front ball joints, window rubbers, tires, front brake pads and it also needs to repaint). Why 5 stars then? Because its 12 years old car and needs just small repairs. The best budget car i could get.  Show details

Reliable but not quite like other Camry's – Bought the car (2002 4cyl Sportivo Auto) in 2008 with 120K's, in my area cars are very expensive and hard to get decent cars unless you buy new. traffic) but its frustrating having to keep pulling yourself back to the right all the time. For a 2.4L I find its quite sluggish (gutless) when taking off, and I find the transmission doesn't actually go down a gear if you turn from one road to another, you go to accelerate and there not much umpf there, like it should be in second gear instead of third. Most Camry's are usually quite, mine is not, always been louder than others, and cold starts I hate the most, revs right up for 2 minutes (on taco about number 3) and annoy the neighbours. Alloy wheels are fine except the centre cap thing, I don't know why they have to have a stupid plastic centre that clips in and then they break and full off, should be made as a single unit. Cruise control stopped working and so too the speed alert thing. both frond door handles (internal) broke, $70 each fitted. The squeaky steering wheel is horrible. At least the interior was reasonably nice in the gray, better than all the black/charcoal interior in all later and new models which make you feel like you're sitting in some cave. Doubt to buy another Camry after this, my previous Camry a 1994 Sedan was much better in terms of quality than this one but indeed boring to look at.
