Reached out with a email to customer support to query the massive difference in renewal price vs purchase a whole new serial key and see if they could even get close to those prices for a long term subscriber. Totally ghosted me. But happy to bombard me with daily emails about my product expiring. Zero customer service so I’m now looking at alternative virus protection products from their competitors.

I have been using Trend Micro for a number of years, and found it to be generally OK. TREND MICRO ID PROTECTION FAILED MISERABLY — Delayed breach alert by 6 weeks! I am writing this review to warn anyone relying on Trend Micro ID Protection that IT PROVIDES NO PROTECTION AT ALL. TM ID PROTECTION completely failed its core job. It failed to notify me of a critical data breach involving my personal information until ALMOST 6 WEEKS… Read more

after it occurred. Discovering a security failure this late (16 May, 2026) left me completely vulnerable to identity theft and fraud with zero warning. What am I paying for if a security app lags by a month and a half to send a basic alert? Do not trust your identity security with Trend Micro ID Protection. It does not protect you at all in real-time.

My 5 device licence still has 605 days until expiry, yet TM suggested that I install Trend Micro ID Protection - HELLO - CHECK YOUR RECORDS BEFORE MAKING A BLUNDER OF THIS MAGNITUDE!

I have used TM MAXIMUM SECURITY for years, and on occasions it has "uninstalled itself" leaving me completely vulnerable to scammers. I have had to spend hours of time on the phone, while TM "help" reinstalled their so called security.

It appears that TM no longer have phone support, which will effectively mean they are totally useless and a waste of money!

Got scamed by someone who I thought was from this company – Just like someone else's review I googled the name instead of going to the proper web site. A guy called me straight away saying he needed to continue to get in my computer to fix it at a cost of 199 when he asked for my credit card details I wouldn't give it to him it just didn't sound right he hung up very rudely. The number he called me on was 0283557878 thought you might like to know as this can do damage to this company for no reason Show details

Long time user – I've been using Trend Micro Maximum Security (on 6 devices) and Trend Password Manager for many years. For my last 2 licence renewals I've opted for a 24 month term and taken advantage of their cash back promotion. The product itself is OK and does… Read more

what I need for securing my devices etc, with the Password Manager being the clincher for me as I couldn't be bothered copying all my P/Ws to an alternative (even though I know it's relatively simple). Where I've been really frustrated (2 years ago and also just now) is when claiming their cash back offer, be warned it is an onerous process that had me going round in circles. Cash back is claimed on TM's Business Centre site which needs a new account/login as opposed to the regular login for TM security products. A cynical person might think that they deliberately make the cash back claims process as difficult as possible, so you give up and don't follow through....hmmm they might be right. Anyway, if you do follow through and make the cashback claim, I can confirm that they actually do pay it (within a week or so) as per my claim 2 years ago. So I'm expecting the same for my current claim...which has just been submitted after much cussing and unnecessary effort.

Follow-up  · I saw no improvement from my original review 2 years ago. The actual security product works OK...but renewals and cashback claims are a pain in the ass. Trend has changed their product line-up so my renewal was not simple or straightforward. I wound up purchasing a completely new licence for a product that didn't suit me. I was able to get it… Read more

Average software but even worse tech/billing/customer service – After receiving a slightly suspect looking email from Trend Micro informing me my subscription was about to expire, I contacted support to verify its legitimacy. After going back and forth with their chat system, I eventually found out it was legit… Read more

and went about trying to renew my subscription, and this is where it all went pear shaped. I asked them to send a link to resubscribe, which they did, but it was for twice the amount I usually spend, so I asked them where the up to 70% off deal was. They then sent me another link. I tried to pay it but the transaction was declined with the error message,

"We are unable to process your order. Please verify your information and try again. If you continue to have difficulties to complete your order, please contact our Customer Service for further assistance."

So I hit the "Customer Service" link and I get this message, "This site can’t be reached. Check if there is a typo in esupport.trendmicro.com. Opens in a new window; external.. If spelling is correct, try running windows network Diagnostics. DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN".

So no customer support for me.

I tried three more times over the next couple of days and got the same error messages.

I contact Trend Micro to let them know of this error and got no response until the next day. Mind you, I'm trying to pay them for my subscription.

This whole process has now taken over two days, with emails and chat sessions.

I get another email apologising for their "poor service", but with no solution to the matter.

So I cut my losses and found a better rated internet security package that actually cost less.

I'm not sure what's happened to Trend Micro, but not only isn't their product in the top 5 of Internet Security software, but their technical/billing support is completely dis-functional.

Follow-up  · I moved to another anti virus company. Better rated, cheaper, and I don't have to deal with Trend Micro ever again, which is a real bonus.

until this expires. However, after spending many, many hours trying to get a resolution yesterday, I have to pay for the upgrade to the new ID Protection product to keep access to Password Manager, although the TM website states that ID Protection is included in the Maximum Security subscription. I feel powerless and annoyed that TM can change the pricing in the middle of a contract, as it does not seem like a professional way to conduct a business. I am actively exploring other companies.

Follow-up  · I am now satisfied with the personalised response Trend Micro team made as a result of my public complaint. Over a 2-week period they did resolve the technical issues so that I have continued access to my vault of passwords and secure notes at no extra cost. I have renewed confidence in the Trend Micro products and just hope that they have done some necessary work on the transition process to new ID Protection product.

DESPITE THIS "REASSURANCE" I HAVE MULTIPLE EMAILS STATING THE BELOW.

I hear your frustration and anger, and I apologize for the distress our communications have caused. Your trust in us is paramount, and we deeply regret breaching that trust. We will stop all emails and pop-up ads immediately. Please provide: Screenshots of the emails and pop-up ads. Subscription Details: Account number, email address, or activation codes. We understand your concerns about privacy and intrusive marketing. We are reviewing our practices to ensure compliance with legal standards and respect your privacy. We are committed to resolving this issue swiftly and restoring your trust.

AND

I am deeply sorry for the distress caused by our emails and pop-up ads. This is not the experience we want for our customers, and I assure you we are taking this seriously. (NOTE TO TREND: READ ALL THE COMMENTS ON THIS SITE. I AM BY FAR NOT THE ONLY ONE). Our renewal emails and pop-up ads are meant to provide information about your subscription and offers, not to invade your privacy or harass you. We understand that receiving these messages too frequently can feel overwhelming and intrusive, and we apologize for that. To stop these unwanted communications, please provide: Screenshots of the emails and pop-up ads. Subscription Details: Account number, email address, or activation codes. IT Findings: Any insights from your IT Provider. Device Information: Type of devices and operating systems used. We are committed to resolving this issue and restoring your trust. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

AND

First and foremost, I would like to sincerely apologize for the distress and frustration you have experienced due to the repeated renewal and marketing emails. I understand how receiving these communications, especially when your subscription still has 70 days remaining, can be incredibly frustrating and feel like harassment. (NOTE TO TREND: IT STARTED AT MORE THAN 90 DAYS AND I HAD THE SAME ISSUE LAST YEAR WHEN YOU HAD TO ABANDON MY SUBSCRIPTION AND ISSUE A NEW ONE BECAUSE YOU COULDN'T FIX THE ISSUES ON THE ONE I PURCAHSED. I GOT EXACTLY THIE SAME BOMBARDMENT OF EMAILS UNTIL A FEW WEEKS AFTER THE ABANDONED SUBSCRIPTION EXPIRED).

Regarding your recent emails, I understand that you are upset and I truly want to help resolve this matter swiftly. To do so, I need some specific information from you. Could you please provide screenshots of the renewal emails you have received? This will allow us to identify the source of the issue and ensure that all such communications are stopped immediately.

I want to assure you that we have already escalated the issue to our team, and all marketing and renewal emails should have been turned off. However, without the screenshots, it is challenging to pinpoint any remaining issues. Your cooperation in providing these screenshots will be invaluable in resolving this matter.

IF THEY CAN'T MANAGE THEIR OWN SYSTEMS AND IDENTIFY ISSUES, HOW CAN THEY MANAGE OURS AS THEY CLAIM THEY ARE?

PS. HOW HILARIOUS IS IT (IF IT WASN'T SO DAMN SERIOUS) THAT AN ORGANISATION PROMOTING A SERVICE TO BLOCK/MANAGE ADS CAN'T AND DOESN'T CONTROL ITS OWN?

2 MARCH 2026 UPDATE.

YESTERDAY, SUNDAY 1 MARCH 2026 AT 2.02AM I GOT THE EMAIL BELOW"-

I deeply regret the distress and frustration our actions have caused you. Your feedback is taken very seriously, and I apologize for the breach of trust and the emotional harm inflicted. We acknowledge your formal complaints to various organizations. We are committed to addressing and rectifying this situation immediately. Our primary goal is to cease all unwanted communications and restore your peace of mind. Steps We Are Taking: Immediate Halt: We will stop all emails and pop-up ads immediately. Investigation: We will conduct a thorough review of our practices to ensure that such issues do not recur. We are fully committed to resolving these issues swiftly and transparently. This review is not of the Trend Micro products (which I have used for a number of years) but rather of the Customer Support of which I have recently needed to avail myself of. Have subscribed to the Trend Micro Ultimate package (including Network Security Device) for two years. The Network Security Device was a piece of hardware which attaches to… Read more

your home network to protect from intruders and which I have previously reviewed on this site. Recently, just before the package was to be renewed for a third year, I received an email from Trend Micro informing me that this package was discontinued (including support for the Network Device which I had only bought two years previously) and they were now moving me to a “similar” product (software only). The problem was this more than doubled my previous years annual subscription taking it to over two hundred dollars. In return I received essentially the same collection of products (minus support for my hardware) and a couple of new ones I had no interest in purchasing (eg. Password Manager where I already have one from another company I am happy with).

I therefore switched off auto-renew and prepared to take my business elsewhere. However, then the emails started coming. Each week there was a reminder email to tell me my subscription had expired, I’m unprotected and need to resubscribe. I ignored the first few but when they kept coming, I started clicking on “Unsubscribe”. Each time I would receive the message saying I had “successfully unsubscribed” but they still kept on coming. Looking on the Trend Micro website, I found an email address for customers wishing to have their accounts closed. I submitted my request and received an automated email stating this would be actioned shortly and giving me a “case number”. After hearing nothing for a week, I sent another email but there was no response this time. A couple of weeks passed with still no response and I was still able to login to my account. Poking around in their support area I found my case request and noticed it had been marked “Closed”. Usually this would denote a resolution but clearly not here as I could still log in to my account. I tried an online chat but the support person I chatted with said they couldn’t assist as it wasn’t their area and I needed to continue following up my account deletion request with that original email address. They would, however, stop the reminder emails.

It’s now over two months since my subscription expired. The same reminder emails continue to roll in ...at least once a week but sometimes within 4 days of each other. I have given up unsubscribing as (despite the “Success” confirmation) they just do not stop so I have had to create a rule in my email to automatically send them to “Trash”. I have tried sending requests to the supplied email address numerous times but there is never any response. I have used Trend Micro products on and off for around the last twenty years. During the early years when I needed to avail myself of customer support on a rare occasion they responded quickly and were helpful. What has happened Trend Micro?

UPDATE After allowing Trend Micro to view the above review before I posted it, I was contacted by someone in Customer Support who was helpful and able to assist with fixing the issue. It took a few days and some back and forth emails with them before the emails reminding me my subscription was ended stopped and my account was finally deleted as requested. Trend Micro apologised for the inconvenience and credited me with an extension of time on another subscription I held on another account as a measure of compensation.

I am therefore changing my original review from that of what was to be a one star review to a three star. While customer support in the end was efficient, it should not have taken me preparing to post a negative review to get action after numerous attempts to achieve this result through TM online processes all failed.

I have been using trend micro for a very long time and have always been happy with their product. The two stars are not about their platform excellence, rather their latest marketing strategies. After a few years passed its time to renew and with great surprise, a massive price hike and one off fee's. Well around $399 AUD for me with their matched… Read more

new plan for a subscription of 1 year. Not only that, you have to opt in to an auto renew.

In short it's time to say goodbye and I will take my chances with Windows defender. Auto renews are a sore point with me and mandatory ones are worse. This year I also unsubscribed from Office 365 as they went down the massive price hike revenue road and I got off the bus.

I do not see this as value for money for average non professional household use inclusive of a short subscription period, and if you think $499 for 2 years subscription is better value then best of luck selling it.

Once again I have no issue with the product.. it's solid and well resourced.

Wonder if they communicate with each other at Trend. Cancelled auto renew in June and yet they still debited my account in July. Received email stating "action required, subscription has expired" after money already debited. Have since received a refund. Would I have been refunded if I hadn't made contact? Show details

Today I noticed a new charge on my account from Trend micro and like Microsoft subscription they quietly added a $100 to my premium ultimate. They are relying on product renewal features. This behaviour from companies be it engergy retailers to microsoft to trend micro needs to be stopped. There is absolutely no reason for such a high increase. A… Read more

small increase is acceptable but between all the unneeded pop ups and no ability to stop them, I am very unhappy that they practice their business this way. I paid 130 for 2 years when I bought my computer to 199 per year to this year to 300. That's not inflation, that is gouging. I am very unhappy and angry about this. I now need to find new protection and no one in my family back in NA even come close to paying what I do for either microsoft 365 or device security. I've been told that if I didn't have automatic renewal I could find a much better price which is a problem. That is gouging people's already busy and hard to afford lives.

Beware of Trend Micro! I did not want Trend Micro, but was hassled and convinced to get it by a JB HI FI employee as I was buying my MacBook a few years ago. It is absolute hell trying to cancel a subscription from this company. I could not cancel my auto renew on the website because it will NOT let you, so I emailed them and they told me they… Read more

turned auto renew off for me. I was assured I would not be charged any more from trend micro, I asked for my account to be deleted so I could be sure of this. It is now May, three months after my Trend Micro account was meant to be renewed, and for some reason I have been charged $219.95. I have been charged for something I do not want, and that I will not use. Total scam if you ask me. This company doesn't even deserve 0 stars. I emailed them yesterday to get my money back, and for my account with trend micro to be deleted. But there has been no reply.

Horrible experience. I cancelled my auto-renewal via chat in December 2024 as whenever I tried to cancel auto-renew myself it said 'Oops, something went wrong! Please try again". Well, that didn't help after several attempts, so I contacted customer service (only option was live chat as they don't have a customer service phone line anymore) who I… Read more

thought successfully canceled the subscription in Dec 2024, expiring in February 2025. Recently Trend Micro provided me with a "special Mother's Day gift” by illegally charging my debit card with $219.95! They just withdrew an unauthorised amount of money and without any email notification and without my consent reinstated their auto-renewal! I was curious and logged into their account and it still showed auto-renewal but in their email section it said cancelled! I lodged a ticket requesting to refund and heard nothing back. Absolut shambles. I had no other choice than to call my bank, disputing this fraudulent transaction and cancelling my debit card. Bank warned me that TrendMicro 'will play the long game' and it can take ages to get my refund. So whenever anyone decides to end their business relationship with TrendMicro, customers are forced to CANCEL their DEBIT/CREDIT CARDS as TrendMicro will attempt to charge your credit/debit cards regardless.

If I could give negative stars I would. Do not ever sign up for this product. Sure it protects your phone, but they're dodgy AF when it comes to contacting them. I was considering keeping my auto renew, but wanted to change number of phones. Trying to find a price guide . . . keep dreaming. Tried calling them. Calling as a private person, they… Read more

don't answer the phone, you go around in circles with their automated number system. But call as a business, they answer straight away. So, you want to be that dodgy, I'm cancelling. I confirm my subscription is cancelled demand an email stating this. And guess what, the following month they auto renew and take money out of my account. Couldn't get through on any of their support numbers on their current page, so found the original number I called last month - tech support and guess what get straight through. But the person who did answer the phone was fine, there is only so much they can do when they are working for a dodgy company that obviously goes out of its way to make things as difficult as possible for their customers.

I was charged for subscription renewal a year before it expired. No invoice, no notification. Trying to sort this out was a nightmare that went on for a couple of hours. Can't talk to anyone on the phone. "Chatted" to someone after finding out how, for ages, giving details they should have had in front of them only to be suddenly cut off. Had to… Read more

I received notice on 4th April of upcoming auto renewal for $219.95. I contacted trend micro and was told to cancel auto renewal via manage subscriptions which I did. I asked for other cheaper offers but I could not renew on cheaper options and I would need to manually buy cheaper option once subscription was due. Today 20th April on expiry of… Read more

Very disappointing. I clicked on a Facebook post and a virus scrambled the screen and hijacked my laptop. I had to get HP to help me get it started again after some hours. Trend didn't offer any protection whatsoever against it. I will look for better protection next time for the money. Show details
