 AI reviews summary

The overall sentiment for Trip.com is deeply polarised. While many users praise the platform for its competitive pricing, user-friendly interface, and efficient booking of straightforward itineraries, a significant volume of reviews reveals a systemic failure in customer support when disruptions occur. Users frequently report being trapped in a cycle of scripted responses, conflicting information, and a total lack of accountability regarding refunds and flight changes.

Pros
  • Competitive Pricing: Frequently cited as offering the lowest rates for flights and hotels compared to other aggregators and direct airline bookings.
  • User-Friendly Interface: The app and website are praised for being easy to navigate, allowing for quick transactions and clear comparisons of travel options.
  • Efficient Standard Bookings: For simple, uninterrupted travel, many users report seamless experiences with instant confirmations and helpful flight status updates.
  • Reward System: The "Trip Coins" program is highlighted as a genuine benefit for frequent travellers to reduce future costs.
Cons
  • Customer Service Failures: Numerous reports of agents providing inconsistent or scripted advice, failing to escalate urgent issues, and ignoring airline-approved policies.
  • Refund & Cancellation Obstacles: Recurring complaints regarding months-long delays for refunds, withholding of government taxes, and the refusal to honour "flexible" ticket terms or medical cancellations.
  • Inaccurate Information & Baiting: Significant issues with "ghost fares" (prices increasing during checkout), incorrect baggage allowances, and misleading room descriptions.
  • Lack of Integration: Users frequently find that seat selections or baggage paid for on Trip.com are not recognised by the airline, requiring additional payments at the airport.
Verdict

Trip.com is a high-risk, high-reward platform best suited for experienced travellers booking simple itineraries where the risk of change is low. While it offers excellent value and a smooth booking process, the consensus indicates that if a flight is cancelled or an amendment is required, the customer support is often incapable of providing a resolution, potentially leaving travellers stranded or financially out of pocket.

Without a doubt, this is the worst company I have ever used to book travel. I work in the travel industry and fly regularly, using a wide range of booking platforms, so I am very familiar with how airline schedule changes and customer service issues should be handled. I had previously had a poor experience with Trip.com, but I decided to give… Read more

them another chance. Unfortunately, that proved to be a mistake.

After booking my flights nearly a year in advance, I received an email informing me that my itinerary had been changed and that I had automatically been rebooked onto alternative flights. However, the new itinerary left insufficient time to make the connection between flights, making the journey effectively unworkable.

When I contacted customer service to resolve the issue, I was told that I would need to pay for a new flight myself if I wanted a workable itinerary. To make matters worse, I was also told that I would need to pay again for checked luggage, despite already having paid for it when I made the original booking.

This situation was entirely outside of my control, yet I was expected to bear the additional costs created by Trip.com's rebooking. The lack of accountability, poor customer service, and unwillingness to provide a reasonable solution have been extremely disappointing.

I will not be using Trip.com again and would strongly advise others to consider alternative booking platforms.

**Absolutely Terrible Customer Service – Avoid Booking with Trip.com** I booked a round-trip Air India ticket from **Bhopal (BPL) – Delhi (DEL) – Melbourne (MEL)** and back **Melbourne (MEL) – Delhi (DEL) – Bhopal (BPL)** through Trip.com. My original return itinerary was: * **16 September:** Melbourne to Delhi – Departure at **7:30 PM**,… Read more

arriving in Delhi at **3:30 AM** on 17 September. * **17 September:** Delhi to Bhopal – Departure at **6:30 AM**.

However, the Melbourne–Delhi flight was changed by the airline to **1:30 AM on 17 September**, arriving in Delhi at **9:45 AM**. The connecting Delhi–Bhopal flight was **not** updated and still departs at **6:30 AM**, which means it leaves **before I even arrive in Delhi**. The itinerary is completely impossible to travel.

The most frustrating part is that **Trip.com never informed me of this schedule change**. I only discovered it myself on **22 June**, almost by accident. When I contacted Trip.com, the customer service representative wasn't even aware that the flight had been changed.

Since then, I have:

* Contacted Trip.com through **6 separate chat sessions**. * Spoken to Trip.com customer support **3 times** over the phone. * Contacted Air India support **3 times**.

Despite all these follow-ups, nothing has been resolved. Every interaction ends with the same scripted response: *"Sorry for the inconvenience. Please wait while we work on it."* Weeks have passed, yet no one has taken ownership of the issue or provided a workable solution.

A travel booking platform's primary responsibility is to ensure customers have a valid itinerary and to proactively assist when airlines make schedule changes. Instead, I've had to discover the problem myself, repeatedly chase both Trip.com and the airline, and still have no confirmed resolution.

This has been one of the most stressful customer service experiences I've ever had. If your trip involves connecting flights or international travel, think twice before booking through Trip.com. When something goes wrong, don't expect timely communication or effective support.

If anyone at Trip.com who is knowledgeable and empowered to resolve customer issues is reading this, please take responsibility and help resolve my booking before my travel date. An itinerary where the connecting flight departs before the incoming flight lands is unacceptable, and this issue should have been addressed immediately.

Booked this flight because it was advertised as earning 3,900 Qantas Points and 40 Status Credits, but the ticket issued was the lowest fare that earns neither. Very misleading. I purchased a Vietjet "Deluxe" ticket through Trip.com for an upcoming flight to Ho Chi Minh City. A key, advertised benefit of this specific premium fare class is the ability to make flight and class changes for free, paying only the fare difference. When I contacted Trip.com support to process an upgrade to Business Class, they completely… Read more

refused to honor the terms of the ticket they sold me. Instead of charging just the fare difference, the agent attempted to impose an unauthorized $249 processing fee, quoting a total of over $1,241. When I provided direct screenshots and links to the airline's official Deluxe fare rules proving the change should be fee-free, the support agents deployed unreasonable delay tactics. They stated it would take 24 to 72 hours for "management to investigate" a publicly available airline policy. Worse, they told me that because they could not guarantee the ticket price wouldn't increase during their 72-hour delay, my only options were to either wait and risk a massive price hike, or pay the full, unjustified $1,241 upfront right then while they investigated. This is highly unconscionable conduct. Trip.com is actively holding fares hostage, refusing to honor the clear inclusions of the premium tickets they sell, and attempting to shift the financial risk of their slow internal bureaucracy onto the consumer. I am currently escalating this matter as a breach of Australian Consumer Law (misleading and deceptive conduct regarding the promised features of a purchased service) and pursuing a formal chargeback dispute. Buyers beware: paying for a flexible or premium ticket through Trip.com means nothing if their customer service team refuses to let you use the benefits.

updating their price and it isn’t something Trip.com has a control over. 24 hours after my complaint, the advertised price was still $500 cheaper than the payment price.

Trip.com is an agency for hotel booking. The booking page and payment page are all within the Trip.com page so it’s not right of Trip.com to blame it on respective hotels’ fluctuating prices.

Trip.com offered me a mere $60 as compensation for this misleading error. I choose not to accept it as I don’t think it’s going to change any behavior or error fixing in Trip.com platform to not mislead customers in the future.

Buyers beware!

I booked a flight through Trip.com (Hanoi – Shenzhen – Melbourne) and paid a total of AUD 637.70, including AUD 416.10 in taxes. I requested cancellation well before departure. show which taxes were non-refundable, and said they could only share what the airline told them — yet then asked me to contact the airline directly for details. This is extremely irresponsible, as my booking and refund are being handled by Trip.com, not by me directly with the airline.

Their own website says cancellations follow the airline’s policy, and the airline’s published rules state unused government taxes should be refunded. Despite this, Trip.com withheld most of my taxes without proof.

They kept delaying my cancellation status as “awaiting cancellation fee” while giving changing timelines (1 day, 2 days, then 1 week). Customer service was slow, inconsistent, and avoided accountability.

I would not recommend Trip.com for flight bookings if you may need a refund. Very poor transparency and support.

were even issued. Instead of helping me correct the mistake promptly, I was told to pay a fare difference that was higher than the original ticket price. This feels like an unfair and exploitative practice designed to make money rather than assist customers. Very disappointing experience. This app appears to be deliberately misleading and unfair to consumers. I am being charged twice for the same flight simply for changing the travel date of one segment, and despite raising this issue within seconds of booking, the company refused to provide any resolution or refund. In addition, the app consistently advertises low flight prices that are either unavailable or suddenly increase at the booking stage. This practice is deceptive and creates a false impression of affordability. I will be raising this with Australian fair trade to see if this helps. Based on my experience, I strongly caution others against using this app, as its pricing and billing practices are not transparent and cannot be relied upon.

This booking experience with Trip.com has been extremely misleading and unacceptable. I booked a hotel at a displayed price of $1800. This amount was clearly shown as the main booking price. However, later on the same day, I received an email stating that I would need to pay an additional $900 directly to the hotel upon arrival. Only after going… Read more

back to the listing did I discover that this extra charge was mentioned in small fine print, while the headline price remained $1800. This is not transparent pricing. The real total cost of the hotel was $2700, not $1800.

What makes this even worse is that I have contacted Trip.com for an entire day regarding this issue and they have completely ignored my complaint. The hotel also refuses to cancel the booking, leaving me with no resolution.

As a result, I am now preparing to formally report this matter to the Consumer Affairs Department for misleading pricing and unfair business practices.

This is a classic example of drip pricing and deceptive advertising. If the full price had been clearly shown upfront, I would never have made this booking.

I strongly warn other customers to be extremely cautious when booking through this platform.

When I received notification that the job in Gladstone was cancelled ( five days before the scheduled flight date), I cancelled the Booking with Trip.com and made a claim with XCover.com. They finally bought the new tickets only a few hours before the flight was scheduled to leave. To make matters worse, their customer service is completely unhelpful and money-hungry. On a previous occasion, I made a simple typo with my surname during a flight and hotel booking. Instead of helping me correct the mistake, they told me my only option was to cancel the flight, pay a cancellation fee, and buy a brand-new ticket. Trip.com has zero regard for their customers, terrible communication, and will leave you stranded and stressed. because I had already arranged accommodation and transport from the destination airport. I tried to find another outbound flight that matched my travel plans and bookings, but there were no suitable options available. I explained the situation to their customer service team via chat and expressed my disappointment with the poor service, but there seemed to be no concern or willingness to help. The agent simply followed scripted responses and refused to cancel my return flight without charging additional fees, despite the problem arising from changes made to the booking on their side. To make matters worse, I also attempted to change my hotel and transport arrangements to accommodate their flight changes, but this was not possible. I am now left with hotel and transport bookings for a destination that I no longer have a flight to reach, resulting in additional inconvenience and financial loss. I am extremely disappointed with the service I received and would not recommend Trip.com to anyone. I feel that I have been treated unfairly and have lost money because of a situation that was completely beyond my control and a return flight which I can not catch as I have no flight to go to. The lack of flexibility, accountability, and customer care throughout this experience has been shocking. What should have been a straightforward booking turned into a stressful and costly ordeal.
