1 Ray. A  · Warranty issues ignored and wouldn't answer their phones. Absolutely dodgy operation. Avoid at all costs
5 Agrew  · Purchased new Salt Chlorinator off this mob 2 yrs ago- fantastic received by post 2 days after purchase still going strong as ever
1 Daryl R.  · Still no response from these fraudsters. I can't believe they are still in business with all of the negative reviews

Purchased a new chlorinator in November, 2025 for our salt water pool. Wasn’t making chlorine, went to our local Mitre 10 to get a water test, which we normally do ourselves. Came back showing absolutely no chlorine and no salt. Contacted Tropical Pool Store via email and also sent water report and a photo of the chlorinator showing that the… Read more

needle was stuck and wouldn’t give any readings. Was told to go to warranty claims online, did this. Received an email saying we needed to send chlorinator back to them, at our cost. Returned product as requested to Compu Pools Nerang. Received an email from them saying we needed to get another water test done??? Explained that we hadn’t added any further chemicals to the water and the water was now green, they told us to get it done and send it to them??? Have not heard from them since. We have written multiple emails and tried calling but no answers. They’ve had the chlorinator since January, 2026 with no further communication from them. Short of driving 18 hours down to Narang to find out what is going on we don’t know what to do.

Purchased a “Replacement Chlorinator Cell for Zodiac Tri Large | 6‑Year Warranty” through eBay. Unfortunately, the unit melted during operation and caused the house circuit breaker to trip. This raised serious safety concerns, including a potential fire risk, so I requested a refund rather than a replacement. The seller did not respond to my… Read more

emails at all, leaving me no option but to escalate the issue through eBay. By the time the matter progressed, I was also unable to leave feedback on eBay, which was very disappointing. I am now left with a faulty unit that I did not want, and I was also expected to pay for the return postage.

I ordered a chlorinator. It arrived damaged within box. It was an auto clean model without the cell and low salt model called Titanium edition. I sent back at my own expense and supposedly ordered a Saltmate SMT150 and not the generic brand. That machine also arrived damaged and was as bad as the first as it was not a Saltmate but the same… Read more

Titanium edition not auto clean this time but with a cell. I made sure salt level for that low salt model was correct but still would not reliably work. Again this was returned and asked for refund of total. Received $134.40 of a total of $667.00 total so far, and told to wait three days for the next payment. (Strange how first refund was in mc pending account two hours after my phone call, but not the original amount) Both refunds, if I get the second within the next three days, are significantly less than the amount paid. **Firstly. Do not purchase Titanium Edition chlorinators and **Secondly, going by the other comments on this site, do not deal with Tropical Pool Store. Full refund is not going to occur.

Terrible experience with product and service – I ordered a replacement chlorinator cell for my Astral E25. Delivery was prompt, however the unit completely failed within 6 weeks. The terminals had corroded through and water was leaking from the mount points. The unit was also incredibly hot to touch. The attached video was sent through and a refund was requested. The warranty was rejected and… Read more

the cause was blamed on a faulty lead until I showed proof a new lead had been purchased at the same time. The cause was then blamed on a number of other factors and [Name Removed] simply refused to honour the warranty. I have since purchased another unit through a reputable company and it has worked perfectly for months. DON'T GO CHEAP, WOULD NOT RECOMEND DEALING WITH TROPICAL.

Poor quality product and even worse customer service and warranty backup – My Saltwater chlorinater cell died after 2 and half years use so I sent in a warranty claim (6 year limited warranty) my claim was approved, I just had to remove the faulty cell and take it to Nerang, I did so and 5 days later had no contact from them so I dropped in only to be told the limited warranty conditions are that I have to pay half of… Read more

the repair cost ! How much I asked, $170 he replied. So nothing has been done with it ? No, not till you pay. So I queried " if $170 is half then the repair is actually $340 for a part which cost $280 new ? That's correct he said. I dont believe that &$!? for a second. Obviously I got stung and I am very angry about it. But I promised Tropical Pool Store that I will be advising everyone how this company operates.

Unsafe products... Do not buy! – We purchased the CJ30 Cell and power pack. Had it installed and water balanced to suit the unit. The power unit has always run extremely hot, to the point you can't put your hand on it. This is a common issue looking at the reviews. I had an electrician look at it while running and he turned it off once feeling the temperature. He said this is not… Read more

right and it is not safe, it will burn your house/pool shed down at some point. I requested a warranty claim and it was rejected, I then requested a full refund as the unit is not safe and they rejected it again. Very unprofessional, unsafe, rude and dismissive. Please read the other reviews before you consider buying, save your time and money (i wish i did). don't risk your safety and the safety of others.

This business has appalling ethics and should be permanently shut down. It's a shame that there is no regulator in the pool industry who can stop this business selling inferior products with worthless warranties. apparent.

I bought an Eco Chlor salt water chlorinator less than 2 years ago and it has been behaving poorly over the past 18 months and now no longer working. The 7 year warranty is bogus - you have to fulfill a number of requirements to be eligible. These warranty requirements were not stipulated at the time of purchase. The only option offered is to submit to see if warranty will cover and then there may be a repair offered. The issue is that you are given back the inferior product so you can try and struggle on until you get sick of returning for remedy and then go and buy another product. I have asked for a return and pro rata refund but this has been denied.

As I can't afford to have a green pool in peak swimming season I will need to buy another chlorinator and then report this company for its fraudulent and unethical practices.

It is my hope that this review prevents others from repeating my mistake in buying from The Tropical Pool Store.

I purchased a generic chlorinator cell and regretted it instantly, it does not seem to generate chlorine like the genuine one. returning from Europe to a totally green pool. I contacted them regarding warranty, was told I needed to submit a warranty claim and then waited three days (no response) before contacting them again only to be told that because it was purchased more than 30 days ago (duh!) that I would now need to send it to Queensland to be assessed… I won’t be doing that, they clearly do this on purpose to discourage you. I also will never be buying another item from this shop.

claim, ( approx 12 months ago) they asked for the salt readings etc, I got those and they said they were out IAW the manufactures guide lines. A Clock, OK, I purchased another clock and got it installed by a pool company, it didn't work/ failed. bought a Bunnings plug in timer and I was away again. Today the chlorinator has failed completely not making salt, - I was advised by a pool company of the negative reviews on Google and here. I was shocked. until I read them. I may have praised Tropical pools because they were helpful and always helped in buying but the real companies stand behind the products they sell and don't hide.

Pics now attached of the defective product - Luck there wasn't a fire

Have you made a warranty claim with this company? Tried to but it was rejected

Is the pool industry have a standard, membership of trusted companies? They should

Crap product, had problems from day 1. Continuously having to send chlorinator back to QLD at my expense, and they always found a way to charge me. Basically held my product for ransom, if you want it back, pay us. I like to support Australian made product, but this experience has made me wary 3 transformers in 2 years, and I had to pay for them all. Not even worth 1 star, but I had to give them a minimum of 1 to post review

Hi, l will try and keep this review short, the replacement Chlorinator cell was purchased & then arrived delivered 9th Feb, installed 11th Feb 2024… Read more

at a cost of $699, it was advertised with a 6 year warranty. Unfortunately it stopped working l contacted Tropical Pool Shop, who advised me to fill out a warranty claim form which l did 15th October 2025, so the cell only lasted 20 odd months. I have been in constant contact with a [Name Removed], and 16 emails back and forth supplying pool shop analysis readings, spent nearly $300 in chemicals to maintain the pool, then had to fill out another warranty claim form claim 16th November 2025, left several phone calls and message with staff for [Name Removed] to get back to, which didn’t happen, in desperation l had the Chlorinator unit checked and the cell was replaced. I then Googled reviews for Tropical Pool Shop and was shocked at the huge amount of customers with similar complaints to mine, l only wished I had seen these reviews beforehand, YOU have been warned don’t deal with this company I am still waiting for [Name Removed] of Tropical Pool Shop to reply to either phone calls or emails, but looking at the reviews , this isn’t going to happen therefore l have lodged a formal PayPal complaint, seeking a refund. Sent from my iPad

Follow-up  · Well as numerous other customers have found and reported on this and other review web sites, Tropical Pool Store didn’t stand by there warranty, and totally refused any claim, even after I had the cell tested and sent the results. Just purchased a replacement cell for my salt water chlorinator and the price was good (not sure about the longevity, but we'll see). I contacted the online help a number of times and they were great, advising me which model to get and confirming I had the wiring wrong (glad I checked) so far - they're great Show details

Follow-up  · While the cell works, it's clogging up pretty quickly and is not outputting the right amount of chlorine, so I'm running the pool for longer. The cell itself is smaller than the original (which is twice the price) So I guess you do get what you pay for. I can't fault the provider, I wanted a cheap cell that suited my chlorinator and that's what I got - was it the optimal choice - maybe not

Purchased a new retro fit chlorinator cell. Was advised the cell would easily replace our existing faulty unit. Received the product to find it would not fit. photo's and pool report as requested, only for them to advise it was our pool chemical out of balance that has caused the issue. $1000 for it to last 3 only weeks! An electrician was able to repair this poor quality product as the seller would not warrent. Do not buy from these scammers. Buyer beware.

Very disappointing experience with their warranty. The invoice for the chlorinator clearly stated “5 yrs Warranty,” but when I made a claim after 3 years, they pointed to a note at the end of the user manual saying only the first two years are fully covered and the remaining years are pro‑rata (around 50%). Despite this, they still sold me the… Read more

replacement part (the cell) at full price.

After installing the new cell, the chlorinator still didn’t work, and I was then told to take the whole unit to their workshop for repair. When I asked why no warranty discount was applied to the cell—since it should still have been covered—they simply ignored my email.

Overall, extremely poor warranty practice and customer service. Not recommended at all.
