Plastic small parts broke 2 months after the warranty – Like somebody already described it, the joint where the head joins to the swivel bit and then to the hose cracked off. There are 2 small plastic bumps inside keeping those parts together. If the joint was screwable or something it would me more sturdy, but this? It's like somebody designed it to break early... just past warranty... Otherwise was… Read more
going well, needed cleaning of all inside filters (low suction and overheating as indicators) very often; hard to screw and unscrew the chamber, i use my feets and calfs to keep it upright and blindly try to open or twist back (hard to keep head close to the feet to see; i don't have enough strength and grip to use hands on this one), to put it back, takes many tries and fails, aligns badly at wrong angles, average 8 minutes effort. No pets, but somehow it collects well my long hair, while brushing the carpet.
Do not buy this machine – I bought this machine as I have a border collie and 4 cats. The power head died after a few minutes. The machine overheats (I assume) and stops working after half a bedroom on carpet and one loungeroom on tiles - this has happened every time I've used it. The lid to the waste barrel is VERY temperamental and it takes ages of mucking around to get… Read more
the thing back on after you empty it. The machine clogs at the filter regularly and I have to pull the whole thing apart numerous times per room (when its working at all) to clear it - which is really annoying when I have to spend forever trying to get the lid back on the barrel every time. This machine works well, WHEN it works - but mine is now going to the tip. I can live without the aggravation.
I wouldn’t recommend this vacuum it does a terrible job vacuuming dirt and flour and the vacuum head that grabs the hair gets stuck and gunked up it’s also very loud considering how badly it vacuums I’ve had such bad luck with vacuums also don’t buy moonpod vacuum it’s a scam they send dodgy useless vacuums and then won’t refund !! 9 Years of reliable service – After 9 years my faithful old Vax Power 7 has finally died (the bearing inside the motor has worn out), I bought this 9 years ago when i started up my home cleaning business, it got used 3 to 4 time daily, running for 2 to 4 hours each day, so that's 9500 times this vacuum got used or at least 6500 hours (it would have to be one of the most… Read more
heavily used ones out there), the key thing for me was filter maintenance, they got cleaned every weekend and replaced every 3 months and it never missed a beat, nothing ever fell apart and reassembly was extremely easy every time. When it finally died i decided to open it up and have a look at the motor and i was very surprised to find that there was a domel motor inside (known as the best vacuum motors out there), this explains why its lasted so long, very sad to see her go but she's been replaced with a brand new Vax Power Advance VX78, i have no doubt i'll get another 9 years of service out of this new vacuum. Thank you Vax for giving me a reliable vacuum for my cleaning business for the last 9 years, one very happy customer.
Great suction, everything else sucks – From the time I bought the Vax Power 7 Pet Barrel Vacuum Cleaner I've had problems with it. The joint where the head joins to the swivel bit and then to the hose cracked on two of the heads. They're now held together with tape. The seals come loose, and I quickly lost one as I didn't see it go into the rubbish bin when I was cleaning it out. . … Read more
Other bits on the shroud have broken, but luckily it still holds together.
General probems: - The hose is way too long, and therefore gets in the way, makes it harder to drag the machine around, and harder to store. - The way the shroud and dirt container click into place together is very difficult as you have to hold the lid so that you can twist the shroud without the lid coming undone. - if the shroud isn't clicked into place firmly enough with a twist, it comes undone easily inside the dirt container, which takes a few steps to go through to get to it. - The machine has numerous choke points where things get caught up too easily and cause blockages, even on a standard house clean. There's just not enough room for rubbish to get through. - The shroud gets very easily encased in hair, dirt etc, which means the tricky job of disassembling the whole dirt container is required to clear it out, otherwise suction is reduced drastically, even when the dirt container has very little in it.
When it is working well (ie everything cleaned out), it has great suction. But it doesn't last long.
Vax Vs Dyson – So we are comparing a <$200 machine with >$450 Obviously there is going to be a quality difference between the 2. For one, on the Vax the hose is very thin and can get tangled thus stopping airflow, where the Dyson's hose is stronger and more forgiving. Vax's fittings are all tightened with friction, its not click in and button off like the… Read more
Dyson, so interchanging accessories can be difficult on the vax. Not good for elderly who don't have much strength.
Vax sounds a bit louder, but you can control the airflow speed so it does quiet down and suction still "ok"
Vax's main unit tends to get stuck around corners around the wall, where the dyson is elegantly designed to slip through.
When comparing Vax's turbo brush with Dyson's, there is a significant difference and it does have some flaws. I noticed that on thicker carpets you really need to give it a push unless your under 5'9 tall. Something about the design causes the head unit to sink in and make it impossible to push forward. I need to clean with either bending my back or using 2 hands.
Now having said all that, I still gave 5 stars because I didn't pay +$300 more for getting above features that dyson has. If you want a simple vacuum cleaner which does the job at cleaning and are at a budget, then this is for you.
It does clean well, and dumping the bucket is straight forward and clean. Plenty of accessories to get the job done.
If you got extra money and want more convenience and comfort, get a Dyson as it is a better machine. I love both based on the price I paid.

As good as most on the market – I bought it from bunnings, in total I've had 3 in last 3 1/2 yrs, paid $180. 2 yr warranty period 1st one, wasn't sucking well aft 13 mths, replaced over the counter 2nd one, started over heating aft 21 mths, replaced over the counter 3rd one, have for last 5 mths, all good, The vax works really well till it doesn't, no probs with anything else,… Read more
very powerful, good on both carpet, and wooden floors, attachments, and adjustable suction for upholstery, also comes with a turbo brush head which does very well with pet hair, i have a dog, cat, and rabbit, Good machine so long as you get it from bunnings, as they have swap over within the 2 yr warranty period 10/11/24...Still have it, still working great
This is perfect vacuum for small family – Its economical and do it work as required by small family and home. Have been using this since 3 years and its doing the required job adequately. I have carpets and tile floors, not sure about wooden floor, but for rest its good regarding its price. Easy to use and clean. - its noisy Show details
Vax7 – Awesome and great working vacuum cleaner. Pet hair no worries . Great extra assesorieswith the lint remover , hair remover , suction a plus . Good value and not expensive . If y9u bought it from Bunnings and lost your receipt the Hawthorn stores the best and will look after you. Show details

Built to break – This is a big vacuum. 4 litre capacity. And all the weight is carried by a tiny piece of plastic latch on the bin lid. If this breaks (and it did) it costs $150 to replace, as you have to purchase entire bin lid assembly here in Australia. The vacuum was only $200. Absolutely shocking. I have doubts if any of the 5 star reviewers used this on a regular basis. Or probably never lifted the machine from the handle??? Show details
Second one bought, Bunnings – This s our second VAX product. GOOD : Price, Two year Warranty (keep it with the receipt you might need it), Pet and/or Brush. Various attachments, Long Cord, Visible Dust container, Good Filtration, Great Suction. BAD: HOSE very soft (crimps up easily) DUST CONTAINER difficult to reassemble (can be SOOO frustrating), HOSE ATTACHEMENT TO DUST… Read more
CONTAINER will fail (keep some gaffing tape near), DUST FILTER(have to wash it regularly, but we kept the first one so it helped), EXHAUST FILTER has to be cleaned regularly (can/will stop machine from overheating).
Both of our units lasted till the second year, we vacuum everyday four or five times depending on the weather, so any unit that comes into this house gets a good going, they don't come out alive out of here. These lasted ok ,for the price they do the job, i have seen others more expensive but look just as flimsy or throw away like all new stuff being built.
VAX Pet 7 Pros and Cons – PROs: Cheap, Great suction. Long cord 8m total with extra hose length. Does pick up hair well. You get both brush and standard floor attachments. Reasonably built, 2 year warranty. CONs: Cheap you get what you pay for. Push handle into stem and all attachments, no clips to lock in. Weak point on hose into vacuam body most likely will break at… Read more
some point. Brush hair difficult to remove as cannot break down brush body to remove roller. Be carefull when emptying as small rubber ring can come away from container body. Loud on operation.
Summary: A good vacuum but probably not a long lasting one. Would expect problems with main 2m plastic hose breaking at vacuum body as very light weight in hose build. Attachments cheap but do the job. Its really a "you get what you pay for" vacuum and no more. I think for the price its good overall.

Used 3 times and now won't even turn on – I was pleased with the performance of this machine for the 1st 3 times I used it, although I feel I had to empty it half way through each session even though the chamber wasn't full. This was because it stopped being efficient. When it did work it had a powerful suction and removed everything from my rug and hard floors well. However when I… Read more
turned it on the 4th time I was only using it for 5 minutes and it died. Never to work again. I'm going back to Volta!

Clunky and annoying – I hate it. Look, I can freely admit that I was coming from a Dyson to this thing so perhaps my expectations were too high, but the Dyson was over 12 years old. I thought that in 12 years, technology would have come along enough so that this vacuum, which is very similar in design to the Dyson we were getting rid of, would more or less be in the… Read more
same ballpark as a 12 year old vacuum.
I didn't do a lot of research, admittedly. I went to JB Hi-Fi planning to buy a different vacuum cleaner but they couldn't find it in their backroom, so the salesgirl recommended this instead. The Dyson had died, we couldn't get replacement parts for it because it was too old, we had visitors coming, we needed a vacuum immediately.
The filter needs constant cleaning or you lose suction. If you wash it with soap and water it takes days to dry. The attachments do not click into place, so if you have been vacuuming vigorously they become stuck and need some serious muscle to detach them. Apart from the powerhead. That thing is constantly falling off the special attachment you have to use to attach it to the pole, and really doesn't give you any extra cleaning power. When it gets long hairs around it, it's quite a mammoth task to de-hair the powerhead.
The non-powered bristle head is useless for cleaning carpet unless you click it on the hard floor setting. It is difficult to get around corners - like dragging a reluctant puppy on a lead. It's heavy and clunky. You have to do a pre-vacuum pick up of bits and pieces off the carpet or they get stuck in the vacuum tube. You have to go over and over the same piece of carpet to pick up crumbs.
The cord is nice and long. That part is really good. But the time I save not having to move powerpoints is spent declogging the tube and wrestling with the attachments.
Hey, I understand budgets. All too well. But for your sanity, if you can stretch a little further, stretch past this and get something else.
The worst i have ever purchased – Buyers beware!! The worst i have ever purchased! Extremely poor suction, clunky to use, vac heads dont work well and its poorly manufactured (and im on my second due to poor manufacturing of the first!). I regret buying it but regret more that i never took it back. I can not endorse this product. Show details
Not recommended - poor construction, heavy and clunky – Suction is ok, but the machine is clunky and difficult to manoeuvre. Far worse than this, though, is the poor construction of the vacuum cleaner. The suction hose fell off after only two months and could not be fixed. I ended up having to duct tape it on to use the machine. Not only that, but the power cord will not stay extended - it just… Read more
automatically retracts no matter what you try to do. So if you move more than a metre or so from the power point, the plug pulls out and the machine stops. Very frustrating. When I contacted the company to complain, they were incredibly rude and couldn't have cared less. Basically told me it wasn't their problem. This product is rubbish, a complete waste of money. I know you get what you pay for, but I don't remember paying for something basically unusable. Not recommended.
Just great, never had any issues since purchased – It’s so easy to use, long cord, make it so easy to do the entire apartment in one go. I had a Samsung before and it broke in less than 6 months, I was worried purchasing a brand that I did not know but after using vax, I would not go back to any other one Show details
It’s great! – Fantastic product. Not too heavy, long power cord and excellent suction. Reasonable and affordable price. I’m very satisfied with my recent purchase of the Vax Power 7 Pet. Many vacuum cleaners don’t seem to have the necessary power or longetivity. And the long power cord makes vacuuming the entire house easier. Show details
This is very useful! – I'm very satisfied with the performance of this vacuum cleaner. The suction works extremely well, too. It's light and portable, easy to move and use in different areas of the house and it isn't too loud, either. The floors we vacuum are carpet and tiles and it works effectively on both. Show details
Good suction – Have this one over a year and pretty happy with it. The suction is very good. The reason it is not a 5 stars from me is that even though it is bagless, it usually doesn't empty effortlessly, so you still need to help it a bit. But for the price of the vac compared with Dyson, it is a minor drawback. Is is also quite noisy (which doesn't bother me a lot though). Show details
So much dirt – My kids were frightened by the noise of the old vacuum. They use this one themselves. Has a great long hose. And gets so much more out of the carpet and mattresses than any other vacuum I've used. Even better than a dyson. Filters are easy enough to clean. The cord is long enough too. I have a long house and only have to change powerpoints once when i do the whole house. Show details
Excellent but easily broken! – I was happy with the service earlier in the year, when I wrote my first review on this vacuum cleaner. However, not even a month passed by when the flexible rubber nozzle came off its connector to the vacuum cleaner! I complained to the company who advised to contact their after sales service dealer. I had to follow up on delivery of the new… Read more
nozzle with fixed connector I paid $20 delivery every Friday (my cleaning day) for over a month! Now its powerhead connector is broken!!! I don't want to go through their highly inconvenient procedure of ordering a new part...

Garbage – RUBBISH, DON'T BUY. Everything inside the head clogs up collecting hair and you can't clean it out. You can undo the 4 screws but there are 2 more hidden screws you can't see and when you lift, it snaps. Bought a $50 no name vaccuum that works better than this overpriced garbage LOL Show details
Long hair becomes wrapped around filter and cannot be removed – This vacuum was great the first three times I used it, that is, until the long human hair that was sucked up started to wrap around the internal filter thingy (where everything enters the barrel) then causing all other fluff to stay trapped in the mostly enclosed part of the barrel which is impossible to remove without unscrewing the whole thing (undoubtedly voiding the extended warranty that I paid for). VERY unhappy. Show details
Best and easy unit – bought this type of vacuum cleaner due to the easy clean function and the hepa filter we are amazed at the way it cleans all types of flooring and item areas around the home small and powerful and super easy to service the collection bag and clean the filter and dust catcher RECOMMENDED Show details
Great for tiled house – Suction is good as long as the collector and filters are cleaned out regularly. Easy to empty and clean. We use on tiled floors only as we do not have carpet. Works well easy to manoeuvre around the house. Attachments are useful although I bought an extra brushes head on line as I found the one that comes with not as effective. Show details
Best vacuum we have purchased in a long time!!! – For the reasonably low price, this product has great suction for everyday cleaning, is a little noisy put no more than I would expect for the power it offers. It is easy to maneuver throughout the house, and the long power lead means I do not need to use multiple power points or extension leads. As a taller person I am grateful for the longer… Read more
adjustable hose, which means I can stand straight while vacuuming and is also an advantage for clean cobwebs from ceilings and windows etc.
The extra cleaning heads that come with the vacuum mean I always have the right tool for carpets, rugs and hard floors, and the small cleaning tools are great for getting into nooks and crannies and for cleaning curtains, sofas etc.
Parts are easy to remove for cleaning compared to previous vacuums...
I did have to return the first vacuum because the power cord retracted on its own, however the replace has been working like a dream, and I would not hesitate to recommend this vacuum to anyone!!!
Best vacuum I've ever bought! – This is easily the best vacuum cleaner I've ever bought. I've had it for over 2 years now and the suction is still as strong as the first day I bought it. It wasn't too expensive and it's so easy to clean and dispose of the waste picked up from the floor. It does very well with pet hair and has a very large canister so you don't have to empty it frequently. definitely recommend this product to anyone! Show details
Suction Power Like No Other – Suction/Performance on this vacuum cleaner is exceptional and for such as low price. Plus the number of attachments that come with the unit is amazing. The best vacuum cleaner I have ever owned and used. I did not think it was possible to fall in love with an appliance but you can with this one. I believe it is better than any other vc on the market either the same price or dearer. Show details
Vax SlimVac Cordless Handstick Vacuum Cleaner – Bought this as a quick clean and tidy-up machine and it quickly became my go to vacuum. It does an excellent job on both the carpets and hard floors and is light weight and easy to use - so much so that I vacuum almost every day now rather than the weekly vacuum I used to do with the big drag around vacuum cleaner. My roomba has almost been… Read more
retired as I used to use it daily on the bedroom carpet, but it is still handy to get under the bed, and a broom is a thing of the past. It is easy to empty and clean, stores well. Overall, for the price it is a good product adn very handy too.
Its a good vaccum – It's a good vacuum of you don't have really big house or town house with stairs Its easy to maintain doesn't require bags . It's powerful and have many additional attachments I t have a special attachments to clean pet hair, have a statement to clean corners and small spaces, to clean drape and sofas. Show details
good round the house vacuum – Definitely a quiet vacuum at the middle of the range market price. Sucks well on shorter carpet but not so much on longer carpet or rugs. Pet hair is easy to collect off the floor including floor boards or lino and i often use it on the lounge with success. Show details
Average performance – The suction was good to start with but now it has started to fade away in less than 12 months time. It is quite well built and light in construction bit the hose is not long enough for me. I generally clean hard floors with it and also some rugs. It is an ok product. Nothing special. Show details
Very good for the price – I am very happy with the performance of my Vax cleaner. We purchased it as a cheaper alternative to a dyson animal, and it is very capable. We use it to vacuum the whole house, and on a variety of surfaces. The battery life is good, and the power head works well. Show details
Fine with weekly home clean – I was happy with the suction of it at the begining, then the suction became less strong after half year which is not good. and it is a little bit aloud when using it but it is light and easy to maneuver. I usually use it on wooden floor of our four room and big living room. Show details
