I have the Vax Zen VCZ1600 – I came to look what Vax has for replacement for my Zen in 2019 cause it is the best vaccum cleaner. It was personally recommended by a friend who worked at Godfrey's. It still works great. Show details

Waste of money – Great when it works, over heats and automatically switches off constantly despite all filters being cleaned and only used on a small area of polised floor boards. Just when three year warranty up, suction works for a few minutes then stops with air coming from top of cleaner! Would not buy this brand again!  Show details

Not up to standard expected – I purchased the VAX Zen 3 Reach after being shown its features at the showroom. Not wanting to spend that much but thought it would be an investment and make my household work easier. I was initially disappointed by the poor level of suction of cat hair on rugs and fabric chair. Given it was meant for pet hair I expected better. Then recently when… Read more

I would turn it off to change plugs or move furniture it would not resume operating when switched back on. Returned under almost expired three year warranty and advised wash and clean filter after use. Had regularly emptied and cleared all filters mid vaccuum anyway. All up I would clean 5 rooms of carpet and use it for lino too.

When I picked it up from the repairers it was supposed to have been fixed. I used it on one floor at home and switched off for a few minutes. When switching on the vaccuum it was silent again. It had had a motor replacement according to service docket for warranty. I am no longer going to go for brand names. Even the $50 cheap models have performed better and longer than this unit. I am now getting some relief and success from a Ryobi workshop model. Not Happy VAX.

Awesome Vacuum! Ticks all boxes! – I have a child with asthma and eczema so was after a vacuum that would be great with removing dust. I did quite a bit of research into what was necessary. I narrowed my search down to vacuums that have a HEPA filter (traps very fine particles and prevents them from getting blown back out of the machine) and a turbo head (apparently these are… Read more

better at lifting dirt). This VAX was by far the best priced vacuum with a HEPA filter and one of the recommended buys on the Choice website. I paid via the Good Guys Website - their price was better online than in-store (I was told the website is updated twice a day and the stores can't keep up with it, but they will price match). So it's a good idea to check prices online first. It's quieter than my previous vacuum when using the turbo head. I'm able to reach spots that I couldn't with my previous vacuum. HEPA filter is washable and no bags are involved so no extra expenses required. I used to hate vacuuming but now it's not such a chore! Picks up very fine particles; great at getting into tight spots using the crevice too; HEPA filter and turbo head a must for allergies/asthma; bagless; canister is clear so you can see how full it is and how well the thing works; telescopic attachment extends to a great length, no stooping necessary; HEPA filter is washable; my vacuum came with a bonus pack of filters.

Vax Power7 Pet is a winner – I used this Product Review site to research a good model and make of vacuum cleaner prior to hitting the shops so only fair that I submit a review as well. After reading only positive comments about the Power7 Pet model I set out to the shops to have a look at it for myself, plus a list of other makes and models just in case. The Vax Power7 Pet… Read more

ticked all the boxes for me, including good height of extension tube to prevent stooping, lightweight unit, attachments (brush and crevice tool), ease of emptying canister, hose and cord length, and soft wheels for wooden floors. I bought it without hesitation and very happy with the result from first vacuum of the house (I'd only cleaned a few days beforehand so very surprised at the amount of dirt and fluff that was collected from a quick clean). I've vacuumed again today as it doesn't feel like a chore and even used it to clean the skirtings, window and door frames, inside cupboards, window blinds, plus the top of the walls near ceiling as the extra long length of the hose allows for good heights without having to pick up the unit. The vac should come with a warning that you may get addicted to cleaning! I don't have much cupboard space to store cleaning equipment and this unit fits nicely as the extension tube collapses down and then hooks onto the back of the unit for easy storage. It can also be store upright if required. I've now talked my sister into getting one as she's shopping around for a replacement vac too. Height of the extension tube allowing for tall people; affordable at $229 on sale from Good Guys; bagless and easy to empty; range of attachments; no setting or attachment change from carpet to hard floors. Nothing - other than you may get addicted to cleaning!

Great, can't fault it – Amazed how many people here complain about it's suction and switching off. Our never switched off once even when doing three floors with hard & carpet floors in one go. It sucks dirt out just fine. It is very quiet, I can have a conversation while vacuuming. We had Dyson which was good too but sounded like a jet plane so we bought this and are happy with it.

Best Purchase Ever! – I am so in love with this vacuum its not even funny. Prior to this i had a kambrook vacuum for over 5 years, i then purchased a shark navigator, i loved the idea of it but just wasnt a fan of an upright vacuum and although was brilliant on carpet not so good on tiles. Having already spent so much i was on a bit of a budget, i purchased this a… Read more

month ago on clearance from the good guys for $130 and its just bloody brilliant. My favourite part? the mini power head for lounges and car, who ever came up with that idea deserves a bonus! This vacuum is advertised as quieter then other but i actually find it quite loud especially the carpet head, how ever it cleans both carpet and tiles brilliantly so does not bother me. I think its quite a nice looking machine too. The handle is very height adjustable, my 6ft husband loves it. This Vacuum is just excellent!

Fantastic Value for Money Vacuum – I hunted around a lot for a good vacuum under $300, this one is fantastic. 6 months on and its the best vacuum I've ever owned, great for picking up dust and pet hair, the clear cylinder sure shows that. I relied heavily on this website for reviews when shopping around. Felt it only fair to give my feedback. Reliable, effective  Show reply

Suction is great.... but keeps turning off!!! – Great suction and not too loud.... Me, mum, and a friend of mine have it but keeps over heating and turning off!!!! A real pain in the butt!! We barely get 5 min done and then switches off!! Really frustrating! Mind you, I encouraged mum and my friend to purchase it... now feel embarrassed at how it turned out for them  Show details

This machine is perfect... For the bin! – This is the biggest piece of cr*p I have ever owned. Not only did the turbo head stop working after a couple of months, the machine constantly turns off and over heats, the cord always gets twisted and now it likes to work for 20 seconds before turning off and then back on itself after a couple of minutes. The second I go to Vaccum it turns back… Read more

A Piece of #$*%!!! – Only had for less that 6 months and I am so ashamed of my purchase I couldn't bring myself to off load it on some other unsuspecting fool. Firstly, it does suck (literally) I'll give it that and nothing else. Heavy and cumbersome its li towing a small car around the house. Air smells in it's wake; inconvenient changing tools and heads which you… Read more

have to bring separately; a nightmare to clean and already need replacing. I got so depressed the other week at the thought of bringing it out again I went out and bought a Dyson (Oh the Bliss) and will now throwthis one out at the tip. If you're thinking of buying a Vax - buy a Dyson!!

Would buy again in a heartbeat – BEST VACUUM CLEANER I EVER OWNED. More air watts (suction) compared to Dysons. I bought my Zen Pet in 2013 and it's still as awesome with a dramatic-infomercial dirt amount in the barrel after a vacuum. Pointers: It would switch off only when the small car Motörhead was forcefully used or outdoors overheating from the sun when car vacuuming.… Read more

Otherwise it NEVER switched off.

Pointers: Lookafter it, empty the chamber when dust level is low like you're supposed to to keep the suction.

It never lost it's suck, is quiet and does the job quickly. I'll not even bother looking at other vacuum cleaners when mine dies one day and head straight for the Vax section to buy another one!!!!

Absolute rubbish. Only had for three weeks. Worst vac ever! – The first time I used this vac was the only time it worked well. We don't even have pets inside but the cone just gets hair clogging it up. Hate to see what it is like if you actually had pets inside. I can't even vacuum my whole house without having to clean the filters. This is just your little three bedroom house too not mansion!!

Design issue over heats – I thought I'd give Vax a go but I'm not the first and won't be the last this vacuum over heats as it doesn't distribute the heat it generates and over a period of time it will over heat more often, this is due to a flaw in its design, I've tested power draw with new filter all appears to work within its specs but still over heats in a open… Read more

environment. So looking at continuing the fact of over heating will result in motor fatigue and inevitable failure, I wouldn't recommend this brand.

Initially Good but Suction Disappears – We were happy at first because the suction was so strong but the vacuum constantly gets clogged up with pet hair and dust. We bought the most expensive model at the time (about 12 month ago) called the Vax Air Pet. It had a secondary pet filter which looked good on paper but it still lets fir and other items into the cones that are beyond the dust… Read more

canister and the vacuum simply loses suction. My wife does most the vacuuming but she has given up on this and I have to unclog half way through every vacuuming session. It makes me angry and feel a bit stupid, because my wife wanted a different brand but I insisted we could save some money. Vax have not perfected the technology in my opinion, at least not for pet hair. The other issue is that the filter in the wheel. That filters the air that is passing through the vacuum keeps falling off. I think it is meant to lock into place but the mechanism that holds it has broken. This machine just isn't quality and I doubt any Vax is there yet.

RUBBISH – Purchased a vax 2 years ago. Worth $449 so the ticket says.Suction is lousy and it turns off when it feels like it. Would never buy another vax. It is also heavy to pull around and the electrical cord doesn't rewind properly. My mother bought a two in one type at the same time and she has just had it replaced because the handle completely broke in two.

Money down the toilet – Was talked into buying this, when I was actually going to buy a Dyson. I was told it was just as good. Less than two years old and wont even start. Doesn't even get over worked as I don't have any carpet. Waste of money. Wont buy Vax anything again.

Ridiculous..... DO NOT BUY!!! – This has to be the worst vacuum ever! I went from a dyson to this piece of crap. Constantly turns off and is totally unusable. I wouldn't give it to some one for free.. I had it for a year and now sits there collecting dust. Unbelievable that still make this model with the amount of bad reviews. I just wish I didn't waste my money. :(

Blown two motors in 6 months – Do yourself a favor keep right away from this cleaner. Like others I agree it is crap!!! Awkward to keep clean and no matter how vigilant dust still makes its way into the motor. Now out of warranty $200 quoted to replace the motor. I could not be more disappointed. Had my previous cleaner 15+ years. Go figure.

Absolute rubbish – So disappointed with this vacuum, it was my first Vax and I'm really not tempted to try this brand again. Constant issues with overheating and the machine turning off. The motor has been replaced once while under warranty and now it has gone again and it's no longer under warranty. Cleaning and filter replacement was maintained as per instruction… Read more

manual. Filters are costly and I've needed to have them replaced much more than recommend. I could only find one supplier that actually sold the filters and have had to order online as they are interstate. Emptying canister is messy and the shape of it does not allow for easy empty. Didn't find the turbo head to be anymore efficient than regular head. The only positive thing I could say is that it's fairly quiet but I would rather a noisy vacuum that actually worked.

A high maintenance machine that's meant to make life a bit easier not harder! I wouldn't recommend this product.

I THREW IT ON THE FLOOR AT SHOP!!!! – A total piece of CRAP!!!! Keeps over heating....have taken it back to shop x. 3. Want my money back so I can purchase different vac. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!....why does the store keep saying it's the filters not being changed.....of course they have been changed. DO NOT BUY THIS VAC!!! I AM GOING BACK TO STORE FOR THE FOURTH TIME...as well as numerous phone calls!!!!!

Turns off everytime – Had this vacuum for a little under 2 years and it constantly turns off, overheats etc. so frustrating. Starts off a dream and slowly gets worse till you want to throw it out the window in anger. Saving my pennies for a dyson.......was told it was just as good as a dyson what a lie! Plus you need to clean the filter all the time. What a pain.

This vacuum sucks!! But not in a good way – Had this vacuum less than 3 years. It's been repaired twice and still doesn't suck well. It is a pain to clean too. Would def not recommend and looking to replace. I've had the motor replaced under warranty and still does not even suck up dust from my wooden floors and is even worse on carpet

works okay when it works! – I've had my vacuum cleaner for about 13 months , constant thermal cut outs, spend a ridiculous amount of time cleaning it, doesn't have great suction and today it has completely stopped working and won't turn on. My sister has the same problems and bought hers at the same time. I dont want a repair, I want a recall and replacement.

Hoover - what hoover – Really this is a hoover. Are you sure because it doesnt pick anything up. One brush broke within weeks. Hose doesnt reach top of stairs. Hose kinks all the time. We are now looking at purchasing a new vacuum – Same issues as mentioned cuts out and won't come back on. The vacuum pipe does not rotate with you, causing it to twist and make a horrible noise. Also the rubber strip on front of the power head has come out, we can't put it back in and means that this head does not work properly and is difficult to drag around. Would not recommend this to anyone.

Lost suction after couple of months – Unfortunately filters went bust and too expensive to replace. These kinds of filters are impractical. Also, hard to move around.

My vacuum likes to turn off!! – Same as many people on here, mine also likes to cut out and won't turn back on, sometimes for hours, other times days. I can try different powerpoints and still no response. When it was sold to me I was told it was just as good as a Dyson. How that was a lie! VAX needs to recall this product! Not a repair but a product replacement. Re-install confidence back into the customers!

Very poor ! – Had this for 18 months , though I would give it a chance !! Very poor suction , hose is too week , when you turn it kinksa nd stops what little suction you had to start , keeps cutting out , all filters cleaned regularly but still does it , power cord rewinds on its own , not impressed ,

Don't waste your money – I was looking for a bagless vacuum without having to pay a lot of money....wish I'd saved a little longer! realise that the dirt is being picked up then flicked around the house in all directions....it can't pick up the lightest of objects on hard floors, its just ridiculous. I would not recommend this at all....next road side pickup, it will be there!!!

Product Recall Required: Poor reliablity – Bought this vacuum because it was supposed to be a quality vacuum according to the sales person from the Good Guys. Had it just under 18 months and the motor has stopped working after 30 minutes use. Thinking this was strange I disconnected the lead and left it for 1 1/2 hours, started again and then switched after 10 minutes. Contacted the seller… Read more

and then was told I need to leave it there for repairs....we are looking at weeks without a vacuum cleaner over Xmas...no way!!! Now looking at the reviews for this machine it is clear that there is an major issue with the motor or electrics overheating which is a concern, even if it is fixed, I dare think it will be temporary. Come on VAX, the consumer deserve better than this......looking at the issue, a recall or immediate replacement (not repaired) at the least is needed to preserve any customer service.

A few other minor issues we experienced are the hose links at the connectors and cuts off suction, the turbo head sounds like a bearing is dry and about to stop. We maintain the vacuum, cleaning the heads, filters etc after every use. It is disappointing that this has happened considering the previous vacuum was bought at ALDI and lasted 3 years (and was still going fine) prior this one...paid $60 for it...

Worst vacuum cleaner I've ever owned – Fell for the advertising when I saw it on sale. The suction is dreadful and it's difficult to get the canister open to empty. anywhere else, it also won't start. What a waste of money. Reasonably quiet. Worked properly for about 6 months before it started to act up. Mediocre suction. Stops regularly and won't restart after the requisite 2 hour wait (more like 4+ hours). Won't restart after turning it off. Useless suction. Should have kept my old Nilfisk that I gave away!
