I booked a property in Alaska through VRBO because they seemed to have a better range of choices than Booking.com. However when the property owner and I provided proof that they had been hacked (I was asked through the site to pay again, when I had already paid up front), VRBO showed no interest in investigating. Given that we have proof that they… Read more
were hacked, that makes them non-secure for providing payment details to. I will never book through them again.
Absolutely disgraceful business. Pity I still have to give it one star. They deserve zero. Stayz's being owned by VRBO, has a refund policy based on ripping off customers. When you pay for Stayz accommodation I expect to receive the exact same amount of money I paid when making a cancellation within the allowed time frame. VRBO processes a partial… Read more
refund without any explanation as if everything was fine. In my case the refund I received was more than one thousand Australian dollars short. Totally unacceptable behaviour. If you're planning to book accommodation with any business owned by VRBO as Stayz ...... DON'T.
They double booked our property twice and then delisted our property after we cancelled their bookings. We were getting limited requests through them anyway and the local agent Fleurieu Accommodation do a far better job and generate more enquiries 5:1. Steer clear of VRBO, they are disingenuous. SCAM - charges Australians in USD – During the booking process it didn't indicate at any stage that I was being charged in USD and I only discovered this during the holiday when I had checked my credit card statement. If you have booked with Vrbo and notice that you were charged a higher amount - please contact the ACCC! It would be that you were charged in USD without your… Read more

I reside in Australia, booked an Australian property, with Australian contact details and at no point anywhere on their homepage or in a pop-up did it ask me to confirm my region/currency. View the video I have attached to see the booking process. It didn't show the currency before the dollar sign anywhere on the website or in my booking confirmation email. Completely misleading! Avoid this website!!
I have raised this issue with Vrbo who say that their currency defaults to USD as their head office resides in the United States, however this does not matter! They need to be transparent with customers on the currency being charged.
I have raised with the ACCC and continue to dispute the situation with Vrbo. This issue appears when you use Safari on an iPhone to book your holiday with Vrbo and needs to be rectified by Vrbo as this is illegal and misleading.
Vrbo caused me a lot of stress while pregnant on a holiday over Christmas and NYE, which was meant to be relaxing. They kept me on the phone for over a hour twice during the holiday while I could hear my family outside the room enjoying themselves. I have never had an experience like this with any other booking platform so will never book on Vrbo again.
When I recently spoke to the host about the situation she brought to my attention the $30m lawsuit that Airbnb are currently going through for charging Australians in USD - the exact same thing Vrbo is doing!! AVOID VRBO!

VRBO is a scam. We booked an apartment in London online and VRBO took nearly GBP1,000.00. The host cancelled within a few hours, yet VRBO and the host have both made excuses as to why there is no refund forthcoming. Both are blaming each other, and VRBO staff (if you can even reach anyone) have been completely incompetent in answering our… Read more
enquiries as to why there hasn't been a refund by making out they can't find the booking, or blamed their colleagues, or the host, or they have no information about the booking. These online holiday booking companies like VRBO, and their owners Expedia, seem to be happy to rip-off people, with absolutely no accountability for terrible service.
Fabulous Service – I highly recommend Vebo. I had a pregnant foster dog arrive unexpectedly and needed a whelping box quickly. I messaged Vebo and was so impressed with their service. They dispatched my order immediately and kept me updated throughout the whole process via text messages. I received the whelping box within a week of ordering, with enough time to set up the area and be prepared for delivery of the pups. Thank you for the fabulous service, Vebo!

They scam u along with the hosts – Plz dont book with vrbo and stayz, they r both the same. Scammers. Stayed at 53 argyll cct, melton, melbourne, Australia. Paid $4000 for 28 Nights( 110$ a night).Had cctv installed inside the house which I wasnt aware of. Contacted host and notified her (sneh) that I would stay for only 7 nights. night, totalling upto $4000 for 7 nights and tried to get away with the full amount. I spoke to the host sneh about it to which she replied, it was stayz/ vrbo who did it not her. I spoke to so many staffs at stayz/ vrbo. They promised me full refund as it was illegal to habe cctv inside the house and was told the hosts property would be suspended and to my surprise its still on the market and I only got $2200 refund for 7 nights. The host made so many false accusations pinpointing my Mistakes to keep the money for herself and stayz agreed with her. Each staffs promised to help me But at the end they got commission from the host and supported her. Plz plz plz stay away from stayz/vrbo and the property at 53 argyll cct, melton. The host wants to monitor ur every move inside her house. She has removed the cctv now but she was checking me n my familys every move violating our privacy. Was told i had the whole apartment by myself, however that wasnt the case. I wonder why is stayz/ vrbo still allowed to run in Australia??? Plz stay away.

Fake host = no booking – We arrived at accomodation to find the booking had not been made. The "host" who VRBO had passed our booking request to was an Adelaide company who actually had no connection with the property. The company claim they emailed our booking to the real… Read more
host, who did not read the email. Attempting to report the fraud to VRBO was difficult and ultimately fruitless. We and the accomodation are in Australia but the chat said only the real host can complain, and gave a US phone number. We did get a full and prompt refund.
Follow-up · I have no new experiences to report. In answer to questions: We spoke on the phone to the fake host who had inserted themselves between VRBO and the real host: they said their responsibility ended when they emailed the person who owned the property. The person who owned the property came quickly when called. She was very upset, and offered to put… Read more
I would give zero stars if I could! My host was uncontactable by both myself and the platform, and I was forced to book alternative accommodation. VRBO advised that I would be eligible for refund for the difference, and 3 weeks+, five emails and multiple calls and follow ups and I am still left waiting, despite my case being ‘escalated’. Follow-up · I have since been reimbursed - but was still left to cover the gap myself. I am still utterly disappointed with the levels of customer service, as the resolution took so much follow up from myself, and VRBO never responded to any of my emails.

I had an awful experience with VRBO. My account was suddenly banned without any explanation or proof of a policy violation. After many emails, all I received were generic replies that answered nothing. I manage two properties that are also listed on Airbnb and Booking.com, where I’ve had excellent support and around 85% occupancy. The difference… Read more

VRBO has shown zero transparency, zero accountability, and no respect for hosts. I have no intention of ever using their platform again.
Worst experience ever. Booked twice, host cancelled and service team with no professionalism,no excuse. Nothing. Just simply ruin someone's trip by saying host can do that. Show details

Misrepresented Promo – This was by far the worst experience we've ever had with travelling and staying in Air BnB's. From the Host to VRBO...inadequate communications and false listings. with one or two flights of stairs but this was ridiculous!
We opened the door to the property and we were hit with a smell most foul, a stink of some kind...food, garbage - something that immediately repulsed us.
Exploring the property after hiking the stairs...it looked as though the owners just picked up and left right before we arrived. In the host's cost breakdown there is a professional cleaning fee of $175.00 CAD...well somebody is getting ripped off for the place was filthy.
We had booked and paid for a week, there was no way we could stay 5 minutes! I immediately booked us a hotel on short notice, I informed the host and we left thankfully.
Then the quest for a refund began...I wasn't expecting a full refund but a partial one that was fair and just. This host claims to care about the experience to the traveller...what a farce for all this man cares about is his money...greed plain and simple!
A refund of approximately 10% was offered (I still have yet to receive a cent). Directed by VRBO support, I was supposed to have a clear and concise negotiation process with the host. This did not happen; the host comes back to say "Based on compassionate reasons for your medical disability” Meanwhile, he is only concerned about so-called lost business – even though he had our full paid up booking for the week and we stayed less than 10 minutes there.

Horrible customer service – Very bad property booked via Expedia and VRBO. Don’t deal with them as they can’t help the customers in anyway. Just took the money. Stay away.
Not happy – I used this to list my property. It was hard to navigate and my property was listed as 3 separate properties so was double booked. A very amateur site.

Terrible – Agree, should not be even giving 1 star, they say "no hidden fees" yet do not charge you in your local currency and charge in USD, I'm too scared to even see how much extra I've paid as its too late now anyway. I think your VRBO's web developers need to start from scratch and make a user friendly website
Terrible – Not even one star. I very rarely get bookings through them but when i do their calendar is never synced and it's a double book so i have to re sync it myself and then cancel the guests booking! Happened twice. Not only that they charge you for cancelling yet it's their IT issue!!
Difficult to get your money back – Would give it zero stars if that was an option. VBRO are impossible to contact when there’s a problem. The customer support is non-existent. My host was lovely but the problem is with the organisation. Still trying to cancel my booking and get my money back but the website won’t allow it. Show details

Filth so I’m filthy-rich – I paid for an 8 week stay at a lodge. Once there the room was the filthiest thing I’d have ever seen. So filthy it was lingering in the air. a clean. The bathroom was filthy with hairs all over the place. Hot water - well there was none. Warm water then cold, then warm again - essentially you froze. Internet? No internet - password provided did not demonstrate any upper case or lower case letters deliberately chewing the time it took to make a complaint, running back and forth with the non English speaking cleaner. Filth is over rating this place quite a bit. The cleaner making false accusations and threats suddenly at her defence, without any question. And VRBO - just as filthy. Their entire team will only favour the fraudulent host. Because that’s how they make their money - through fraud. Rude and yelling on the phone. By far the most disgusting outsource decision on earth. Negative stars cause your dirt-y.

Almost left stranded without accommodation – Rating should be a zero after last experience. asked for personal documentation to be sent to their mobile number, as well as to an email address outside of the VRBO communication app. Fyi, locals - including local police assistance we sought - helped to ring the provided phone number, but could not reach anyone. As a result of the debacle we were not provided with access to the fully paid for accommodation and had to book elsewhere - which we did on a competitor booking site with NO issues of check-in requiring personal documents. Subsequently raised a complaint to VRBO as they were the merchant who debited our credit card - had asked host (a mob named WalQinn, (domiciled in a different country it looks ike) for a refund which was denied) - on the VRBO “Stay neighbourly” website and never got a resolution. Correction - an email was received from VRBO thanking me for feedback and my conversation with a “[Name Removed]” and then asking me to rate their feedback process, and letting me know they had closed my complaint!!! This is a mickey-mouse platform! Will NEVER use them again. Local police we asked to help also mentioned they never heard of VRBO, but was more familiar with AIRbnb and booking.com (this was in EU). Have disputed the charge via bank and hope to get a refund that way. STAY AWAY FROM VRBO - there is NO customer contact details ANYWHERE on their website you can get in touch with to resolve matters - important when you are travelling in a foreign country.
Never book using Vrbo, NO support – We reserved a home (basement suite) on Vrbo to stay in Calgary, Canada for 7 nights, on arriving at the property, it wasn't the cleanest, but that was the least of our concerns, the noise from the above house was unbearable, its like they were constantly dragging furniture around, we firstly contact the host about the noise and he did not respond,… Read more
after a few hours, we decided to leave as the noise did not stop, we messaged the host via Vrbo to state we left and would appreciate a refund, long story short the host was not forth coming at all . I contacted Vrbo who stated they wanted evidence at the time I did not think about recording the noise, so I contacted the host again and said we will come back to record the noise, he did not respond I advised Vrbo since I have paid for the week and no refund has been offered I will go back ( but need to be sure the host has not changed the lock pass code, as his not responding to me) Vrbo did not acknowledge this and said they have escalated my case and someone will be in touch soon, I have contacted Vrbo numerous times and keep getting told the same thing, Vrbo is waiting to talk to the host first, yet the host has not responded to Vrbo?? It has been 7 WEEKS NOW and I get told the same thing, waiting to talk to host and the case is with the esculated team. What has been esculated, 7 weeks and no response???? as a company this is VERY POOR, 5 working days is more then enough time to provide a response, the host told me in verbo message he contacted vrbo ans Vrbo is saying have not spoken to host. If the host is not responding, Vrbo SHOULD deal with the matter and refund the money. This is unacceptable, having to stay at hotels and have not received a response from Vrbo or refund for this apartment has cost me greatly.
What is the point of escalating my case to a team in Vrbo if 7 weeks later I am still waiting and worst of all, not even contacted by Vrbo.

Worst Rental Home Company – It has been a nightmare trying to get a refund for a VRBO property that I didn't stay in. They told me to send pictures and send the booking details. After doing so, they agreed… Read more
with me regarding the home condition and they told me to check into a nearby hotel because they were unable to find an available VRBO home at the moment. They said I would receive the hotel reimbursement AND a reservation refund to use for the a VRBO home that they would place us in. We spent two days going from one hotel to the next waiting for them to inform us of the new VRBO home. When they didn't place us in a new home, we decided to end our spring break vacation early and went home. Now, 76 days later, I am still fighting for a reservation refund. As of yesterday, 76 days later, a VRBO representative informed me that on their end, their system shows I never canceled. Apparently calling customer service and speaking to the home Host regarding the condition of the home on the day of arrival did not constitute as a cancellation. So, I was supposed to cancel a different way. I still don't know what that different way is but I'm assuming I needed to cancel through the app. No one told me that when I called. In my mind, I canceled directly with them by speaking to a representative who said I would get a refund. I was told this via email. They said that email meant reimbursement for the hotel. I did receive a reimbursement but I thought it was the reservation refund because the reimbursement amount that I received was the same exact amount I paid for the rental home. I was told I would receive a reservation refund, so I thought the reimbursement I received was the reservation refund. After calling several times since March to get the update on the hotel reimbursement, finally 76 days later a VRBO representative informed me I already received the hotel reimbursement and I was not getting a refund for the reservation because the system shows I did not cancel. He said the reimbursement I received was the hotel reimbursement and not the reservation refund. Apparently, cancelling by talking to a VRBO representative and by talking to the home Host does not make it a cancellation. Why didn't the representative or the Host tell me despite this extenuating circumstance, talking to them and filing a claim report did not warrant a cancellation? Honestly, I still dont know what would have been considered a cancellation in my situation. There was no way to cancel through the app the day of my stay. When I spoke to the Host on the day of checkin regarding my displeasure, he apologized and proceeded to give me excuses saying others have stayed there and liked it. He never offered a refund solution. So, now VRBO wants me to work something out with the Host. Really? 76 days later? If he didnt give me a refund after we talked on the day of checkin, what makes them think he's going to give me a refund now 76 days later?! Clearly, I have to take other measures to get a refund. I have so much written proof that I didn't stay there but their system says otherwise. I'm very upset and disappointed. Do not book with VRBO! Never again will I do that. Besides the nightmare on that day with seven kids, and not getting my money back, this process has been even worst dealing with customer service. They are unorganized, tell you conflicted information, no one knows what they're talking about and their system is apparently flawed.
