So Happy: We Have Moved Into Our New Home – We signed the contract to build while COVID was raging: we are so grateful there was minimal delay. We are happy with our new home and issues pre- and during construction were dealt with to our satisfaction. We have just submitted post construction maintenance claim and expect it will be similarly resolved. We were particularly impressed with… Read more

pre-start session where loose ends were put to rest promptly. There were a few variations; they were explained as necessary; and we took them in our strides, We had to fork out extra $$ but they were to do with council regulation and site issues e.g. to rectify site due to swimming pool having been filled in!! Still Happy

Stay away from BGC! – I started enquiries with WA Housing Centre (BGC) in July 2019, had selected a titled block and paid my deposits by November 2019, and did my pre-start in March 2020. The slab went down that July and lockup was October. My last meeting with my Supervisor was in December who told me at that point that handover should be mid January. The fact that… Read more

we're now near the end of April seems pretty piss poor, especially so because they never seem to be able to tell me what the delay is. I found out through a security company's Facebook post that my hot water system was stolen and this was confirmed by my construction consultant a week after my email questioning it. My consultant has changed 3 times since building started 10 months ago and the only time I've heard from them was when they introduced themselves or I emailed them first. Always "I've emailed so and so, and I'll get back to you", and then they obviously never do. My issue now though, is things like, paved walkway into the portico is too narrow to actually walk through so any visitors will have to go through the garden bed, I had to ask to have fencing included in the contract but they haven't put in a side gate. These seem pretty poor to me and show a complete lack of forethought or care given.

Good quality builder - very happy customer – My build was managed very well, I was always kept informed of regular updates via the portal and emails/phone calls, the build took 15 months from securing my block to lock up stage. The workmanship and build quality of my home was outstanding. The longest part of the whole build was the brickwork due to only having one bricky on the entire job!… Read more

He did an excellent job and I’m kind of glad there was only one person on the job. A special mention to my broker, Simon from The Loan Company for getting me the best deal for finance; Zandalee and Bethany, Contracts Administrators who were extremely patient and answered my many questions and Peter, Sales Consultant who at the very start of my journey made sure I was happy with my house plan.

WAHC handled any issues I had with quick response time and were rectified in a timely manner.

The final cost was comparable to my expected cost. My house/land cost me a total of $332,000 including upgrades. Very happy indeed! Thank you WAHC (BGC) for building my forever home.

It took me 24 years to get here!! Dreams can come true, even in your 50’s!

Smooth build and now 2 months Living in my new Home and loving it !!! – Well my build was surprisingly fairly smooth and hassle free. From day one meeting with [name removed] it all went well, he explained it all in detail and made sure I knew that before I signed up that the block I chose wasn't due to be titled for another 6 months. [name removed] at the Loan Co did an excellent job with my finance needs and… Read more

couldn't be happier with the chosen bank, it was all explained and no hidden surprises. Slight delay I had with getting the prestart done but that was partly due to me working away but The girls were very accommodating working around my busy schedule. Prestart went generally ok, but felt a little lost as I was just given a folder with a list of places to visit and not much guidance but I got through it in the End. [name removed] at Intelligent homes did a superb job helping me set the home up and get it prewired for my security system and home theatre. My home theatre contractor even commented that the install and prewire was faultless which made his job a breeze. The build itself took roughly 6-7 months and went together quite quick. [name removed] did a great job supervising the build with [name removed] taking over at the end to get it over the finish line. At PCI inspection only minor faults were found which was quickly remedied and ready to go at handover. 3 months in my home now and so far have only had 1 minor issue with a water leak that was fixed the same day once [name removed] was contacted. I have heard stories of people struggling to get in contact with their administrator and builders but I didnt encounter any issues, If my call was unanswered and I left a message it was always returned promptly. Overall quite pleased with the build and the quality so far seems quite good. Definitely recommend WA housing.

June 11th 2019 Update: Terrible After Sales Warranty !!!

Well 2 years since I have moved in and so far theres only been really minor issues which has been promptly repaired once the issue was raised. However, today I have noticed a big wet patch on the ceiling eaves at the front entry of my home. I have discovered that the roof in one section has been completed terribly with there being a big gap on the sheet metal in one section which is causing water to run under into the ceiling, also on one corner the sheet hasn't been trimmed back so when it rains water actually is directed straight onto one of the overflow slots so water is now running out the gutter and not down the drain as intended. I contacted the after sales team and was told my house was too old and to contact my insurance company. So 2 years in and they just wiping their hands clean and saying its not their problem after it is clearly an issue with the way the roofing was installed. To others be really careful with these guys as they quick to shift the responsibility on to someone else when things aren't working out. Will never consider building with these guys again.

isn't complete or up to standard. The constant small "surprises" have become more annoying and the WA housing centre have become more and more difficult to deal with essentially absolving themselves of any responsibility of these errors due to the passing of time. From small errors such as not completing the dishwasher connection properly in the kitchen, which we are still trying to resolve now but in the interim is filling the house with foul smelling waste water that our newborn baby does not like, to big errors like not sealing the roof (needed several visits by different contractors over many months before one was skilled enough to fixed it correctly) which resulted in a large section of ceiling become covered in water and mould that needed replacing.

Probably the biggest issue, which we didn't even bother bringing up in the end since it's too late and nothing could be done, is that we built on a small block which allowed us to build wall to wall - so essentially each side of our house could and should be on the boundary and it was zoned accordingly. But for some unknown reason, they put a setback on either side so each side is 15cm in off the boundary (so we lost 30cm of room inside the actual house). I should have picked this up on the plans but nothing was ever said and I just assumed the build would be wall to wall as per the zoning. It was only picked up when we had the fence installed and he asked where we wanted the fence to actually be! So now we have this lost space on either side of our land which will essentially be used by the neighbours since there's no point in running a fence all the way down both sides when you couldn't possibly use the space on our side for anything. The whole thing is just so very frustrating because it's stuck like that forever now, and we've lost a small space of our already small land.

This was our first build so they clearly know how to get these houses built so they look good to the unassuming new home owner, but they cut corners because they clearly think they can get away with it - and a majority of the time they probably do. Going through the WA housing centre to build our first house is now a gift that keeps on giving (hopefully you notice my sarcasm there) and it doesn't appear as though it will stop anytime in the near future, so do yourselves a big favour and save yourself a lot of time and heartache and DO NOT build your home with this mob.

Fantastic! Now have my dream home! – I built my first home in 2018 which was an absolute dream to do. From location, design and finance it was all very smooth running and the best part of building is being able to create exactly what you want. The exciting part, for me, was picking all your finishings such as extra lighting, tiling, flooring etc as this is a completely unique part of… Read more ·  1

your build that can make such a huge difference to the overall finish and of course what makes it YOURS.

The construction part was very quick - 7 months from slab being laid to getting the keys in my hand. Along this way I had regular meetings with site supervisor to ensure all was going to plan. Office staff as well and construction workers were all very helpful and explained things along the way. This was fantastic as can be quite a stressful part of the journey wondering if everything is going to plan - regular updates from the team really puts your mind at ease that you are in safe hands.

I have now been in my new house for a year and it definitely feels like home! I have come across a couple of issues in recent weeks and contacted sales department waiting on a reply. This includes cracking to rendering externally at front of the house and that when it rains my garage floods - I have lost some belongings I was storing in there due to water damage so hoping these issues can be rectified before the winter comes! These are the only negatives I can say about the build as otherwise all welt to plan and so much more!

I would highly recommend if you are thinking of building, I am very grateful for my whole experience :)

Amazing new house despite a few minor bumps in the road – Pre-construction: I was first contacted by WA Housing Centre in January of 2019. We started the process of looking at house designs and areas where would like to build. Our agents, Todd and Andrew, were awesome in providing us with key information about financing and possible locations for us to build. They were able to secure us a piece of land… Read more ·  1

for a great price that was perfect for us. We carefully went through the design and they provided helpful hints on how to optimise the design. Despite my million questions we made it through.

Securing finance: The highlight of the experience for me was the partnership BGC have with Rebecca and The Loan Co. Rebecca was super helpful in explaining how a house loan works and she worked tirelessly to answer the many questions we had. She was able to put our worries at ease by providing us with a loan that suited our needs. Fantastic!

Prestart: This was probably the most difficult part of the process. BGC have an awesome online portal that allows you to really take your time and look through everything. It renders a 3D model of your house which is also really cool. Going into Prestart I was unaware how much we would spend. We had put an allowance on our loan but I would suggest that anyone building put a min of 10k - 20k down for Prestart. It ensure that you are able to make those changes your really need to make it your own. Our biggest disappointment was that after we went for our Prestart, BGC lost all the information we gave at Prestart. This meant that we had to complete some selections over the phone. Some of the selections didn’t end up being what we wanted but it was close enough.

Construction: Ray, our construction supervisor, was awesome. He kept us up to date about any and all changes that were occurring. We did have a few hiccups with variations that we made not being passed onto the construction crew. It is really important that you constantly check up on the house during this time as catching problems early means that you get into your house faster. We also had an issue with our tiles having horrible markings on them which we could not fix (this was more an issue from the tile supplier). However, Ray made it possible for us to move into our new home by Christmas which was awesome.

Highlight: The friendly team at WA Housing Centre made building our first home a joy. They were attentive to our needs and ensured that we got what we wanted. We have received a quality built house with excellent appliances that will last us for decades to come.

Improvements: Communication between the office staff and construction crew needs to be improved to ensure all variations are submitted and given to the supervisor.

What I wish I knew: Make sure you put a large enough allowance for Prestart as it allows you to really customise your house the way you want it.

Thanks WA Housing Centre!

Mediocre – I built a house with WA Housing in 2016. Overall not bad, however the grout on floor tiling throughout the house and particularly the bathrooms is shocking. I had to pay for grout to be redone in both bathrooms. I also paid $6000 for interior paint in my package and believe that the paint was watered down, incl ceiling, so you are no better off!… Read more

It's obvious where you wipe the walls because the paint comes off. I would recommend getting a painter yourself and paying a little extra and also upgrading grout quality if choosing this company to build with. Apart from these 2 things, everything else went reasonably smoothly.

Worst company to build with, wouldn’t recommend to anyone – They will say anything to get you to sign your contract and then leave you without any help. And was also promised a smeg upgrade oven and gas cook top and never recieved it because it was not in writing, so that I feel put a nail in the coffin to begin with. Not really impressed with the whole house and land package at all. The workmanship is also to be questioned, the painting is not great and even after stating it wasnt it still hasnt been fixed properly. The landscaping package is also another questionable problem as we were told we would have grass and retic and upon meeting with the landscaper i was told its mulch just mulch and half a dozen plants, no retic? Well you can imagine how diappointed I am with that. After final inspection I was told someone would come in to clean, well no one did, everything had dust everywhere, doors floors, sinks and kitchen bench. For the amount of money I am paying I really expected more, so I cant really say im happy with the whole thing, its been a hassle from start to finish from dealing with all the people involved to moving in to a filthy house. You are basically told and promised these things but basically at the end of the day you get the very basics unless your finance covers it or your willing to pay.

Very happy – Great workman ship. Very happy with end product. Just a couple of minor miscommuication error during sign up. WA housing centre managed to give us a beautiful first home on a small budget. We were very happy with the end product. we did not have to correct anything on PCI. Thanks WA Housing Centre. Show details ·  1
