Had it 10 years and still going strong – Had the 5035 for since 2007 and paid a decent amount for it regularly serviced (10 years free) -and still working well Seen much bad publicity for this vacuum but honestly after 10 years it has paid for itself and then some Sure there's better now but it is 10 years later Show details
All in all happy with our 5030 – We have the Wertheim 5030. Had it for about 12 yrs and besides small things, like the electrical cord no longer retracts back into the cleaner and the power head is held together with tape, because all the screws in the casing have cracked/broken. The actual cleaner itself still works, the power head still works and we've had no issues with the… Read more
hose, handle, clips etc. Once we've had the brushes on the metal roller replaced. I'm actually trying to find a second hand power head to replace our taped up one, otherwise quite happy with the unit. Like some of the other responses, it is heavy to pull around and does bang into the corner of walls when trying to get around corners.
I Have One Too – My 5035 was purchased in 2006. I wanted a vacuum cleaner that wasn't bagless and not cheap. With my vacuum I also received 10 years free service. So I can honestly say I have not had a problem with my vacuum at all, except that the light on the power head doesn't work, but so be it the power head still works. Would I recommend this vacuum, NO I… Read more
don't recommend anything at all. I will give my honest opinion about something if I'm asked based on how long I have had it for first, then people can make there own choices after that. If you think you will get bullied into buying something take along someone else with you, after all it is a lot of money and it is YOUR hard earned money. So I my have the only 5035 that isn't a Lemon so far. I just wanted to put it out there that there is at least one that is working and I did not get bullied into buying it at all.

a decent machine – Owned this for a while as secondhand, and here's my observations; - main machine is well built, except positioning of power brush socket is interfering with access to accessory door. Also have no idea why it obstructs dust bag lid. If it is for safety reason, then i think dust bag door should be placed underneath main power cord retract button;… Read more

- it's quiet, frankly
- Read a few reviews that powered brush failing easily. Comparing the failures reported to defect shown on mine, which has similar symptom, I have found out that the root cause to powered brush failure is not the powered brush itself, rather, it is a poorly designed electrical contacts on the wand, in which the contact pins get pushed back during every insertions of handle onto top end of wand.

The worst dangerous piece of equipment I have ever had to use and that was the first time under 10 m – Has Godfreys discontinued 5035? and why. Yes because it is a dangerous machine causing shocks after shocks and is a complete dud totally scammed into buying this overpriced piece of crap at $1350. 5035 First time ever used this has been a fortnight ago! i.e. in December 2017 as I was waiting for my Miele which I had since 2000 to die but lasted… Read more
until now for a good 17 years. Then decided to pull out this evil worthless Wertheim 5035 and it did not work, in frustration after 2 hours started with light in powerhead flickering and then got shock after shock when it did start. Was horrified to note the power connections on the metal wand of the power head do not flush fit and it looks like the parts were second hand and possibly returned by somebody before it was aggressively sold to me, Was never boxed and no instruction manual came with it. All in all this is a seriously dangerous vacuum cleaner. Have reported the matter to ACCC and DOFT. Godfreys have a duty of care to sell products to the public without endangering them and electrocuting them. When I contacted Head office to complain it did not concern them whatsoever and in fact when put through the store where I purchased it from, the sales person told me to "don't use it, just switch it off"!!!
Utterly disgusted!!! I would give this dangerous commodity a zero rating as well as the company. Please DO NOT buy anything from Godfreys. Save your sanity and your hard earned dollars and you are better of giving your money to charity than this company.
5030 need new hose and handle – 5030 still works well but handle broken and costs $250 to buy a new one. My machine is at least 10 years old so not worth that expense. If anyone is willing to sell hose and standard handle or gas pump handle ( I am told will fit) please email. Show details

Top Class Unit – I didn’t expect to pay this much for a vacuum cleaner, but maybe 12 years later this unit is still going strong and was money well spent all those years ago. Having bit of a problem with the main metal tube where it attaches to the handle. Try and track down a second hand one. As vacuums go, this is a top unit. Show details · 1
Best vacuum – 12 years still going. Best vacuum ever. After 12 years still sucks like it did at the start. Pity the wife doesn't. Maybe keep the vac and get a new wife Show details
Good solid unit – I have had my unit for over 10 yrs, and it is still performing well. Just ordered replacement brush for power head at $54.00 delivered. Pity I was lied to by Godfreys team at Mittagong who told me I could no longer get parts and would have to buy new unit. Found it easily after simple search. I have used this on both slate and carpet although I do find it heavy going at times on the carpet. Show details
Not worth the money – Not sure when I purchased this vacuum but after only having it for 12 months, discovered that the hard floor head had started to rust! Had it replaced and then the power head started to malfunction! Today whilst using the power head, the wire that runs into the power head actually caught fire and I had orange flames coming out of my power head!!!… Read more
Obviously the rubber encasement has been silently eroding without my knowledge but I have never heard of flames coming from a vacuum before!! Pretty scary, vacuum cleaner is now in the bin, and I am now putting faith in my very recently purchased Dyson.
Heap of crap – After being convinced by the guys at Godfreys to buy this expensive vacuum I have had nothing but trouble with this machine. The head has broken 5 times and the hose 3 times this is definitely not the vacuum you want avoid at all cost, my previous machine was a Hoover and lasted 9 years before it threw its hand in the air.
ergonomic tradgedy retired at 18 month – paid $1095.0 to fast talking Godfreys, then spent half the time pushing ,replugging, resetting ,looking up dusty hoses, wrestling the thing around corners and rolling it back upright.,it now lives in the bottom of a wardrobe .Save your self a lot of grief and money buy a stick vac, they almost make vacuuming enjoyable.and cleans in a third of the time. Try K Mart or Big W.They at least support the products that they sell.
An absolute rip off – I had one of the early Wertheimer's, i loved it the wheel kept coming off so took it in to get a replacement, was talked into paying anther $1000 to upgrade to the 5030, i have had 3 replacement hose and handle, they just crack as they are too weak, they are over $100 every time you buy one, they are faulty and should be replaced for nothing, the… Read more
motor is too powerful for the attachments, but these days no manufacture cares about customer service. Shame, Shame, Shame. just buy a cheep one and throw it away after 2 years, it would be cheeper!!!

Good machine but the Power Head design Sucks – If you are trying to use the power head and it doesn't work. Try using it without the bag - the design doesn't allow enough air to be sucked in when the bag is in and the powerhead is turned on. Take the bag out and the Power Head works - go figure!! Also the hoses split but so far the motor is still going.
Worst Vacuum Ever!! Stay Away – We bought this vacuum because the salesman showed us the impressive effects of its power head, which worked magically in store. However, once we got it home, the power head only lasted two runs through our medium sized home before it decided to break. After asking for it to be repaired (as it was obviously still in its warranty) we waited 6… Read more
months for the head to be fixed without an explanation as to why it was broken or indeed, why it was taking 6 months to fix. When we eventually got the head back, we were surprised to learn that it STILL didn't work. This is admittedly partly the fault of the vacuum shop, however this is not the only issue we have had with this product. The machine is clunky and top heavy, so topples round corners and has to be coaxed around the house. The suction is terrible, and is unable to lift even lint, which is the point of a vacuum cleaner. Not even enough suction to keep the head on the ground when vacuuming under tables. The hose pipe is constantly becoming blocked, requiring tedious removal of various sections and crouching on the ground, looking through a dusty pipe to find the offending blockage. The power cord comes out of the wall socket easier than the extension cord pulls out, meaning that before you start vacuuming you have to pull the cord all the way out or be constantly shut off when the plug pulls out of the wall. For such an expensive machine it was such a disappointment. $30 Gumtree machine more effective than this. This machine fails to fulfil even the most basic requirements of a vacuum and only got worse as time wore on.
Wertheim = Worthless STAY AWAY – STAY AWAY -------A 4yr old machine. Very expensive as Vac's go. Big piece of rubbish. 1) The power head plug at the top of the handle is VERY difficult to get in & out. 2) The 360deg connection where the hose fits into the machine has broken - The press clips that hold it in place have both broken off. Not from excess pressing - they… Read more
have a movement limiter so you can't. 3) The hose / connection doesn't seal into the top of the bag very well. A lot of dust & dirt end up bypassing the bag & getting sucked straight into the motor. 4) Today the machine has totally died. The bearings in the motor have seized. Quite possibly from all the dust that bypassed the bag......
Absolute unreliable ripoff – After 6 years of light duty, mainly bamboo floors, our Wertheim 5035 motor catastrophically failed. I have a $50 vacuum cleaner that is 10 years old which still works and I use to clean my vehicles. Never thought I'd have to use it again indoors to substitute a $1600 vacuum cleaner. Stay away from Wertheim and Godfreys. Judging from their service, this is not a fair Dinkum business selling rubbish like Wertheim, their incestious brand....
Great vac but heavy – The cleaning ability is unbeatable as I had a very expensive dyson before but this beats it hands down. The only thing I don't like about it is that it is very awkward to move around which makes it quite heavy and the newer bags seem smaller. The motor seems brilliant as I was shocked when an electrician used it to suck up a heap of plasterboard… Read more
and overfilled the bag. Have had it for about 6 years now no problems. Cleaning ability Heavy and the bags seem to have got smaller over the last couple of years since package change
Too many problems with power head – This is a powerful machine, which is great. I suspect the motor itself would run for another 10 years or more. However, the very expensive power head which must be purchased separately (also very expensive!) keeps failing. I've bought two; both failed eventually. Plus it weighs a ton, very hard to get up and down stairs. Am now giving mine away and getting a Dyson. Sturdy motor. Expensive power head breaks down.
Very content with machine – We have had ours for 8 years now and have loved the machine and how effectively it cleans our floors. While we have had some repairs done over the years it has been nothing major or expensive. This was the first "expensive" vacuum we have bought and have been very happy with it and it is still going strong. Excellent suctions and always suprised how much dust/dirt it gets A bit cumbersome, heavy powerhead, but really not a big issue.
Wertheim 5035 – I was standing in the doorway watching my wife vacumning a bedroom carpet with the Wertheim when the power cord to the turbo head suddenly burst into flames! The vacumn cleaner was behind my wife and she hadn't noticed the 3cm flame and smoke coming from the cord. Considering this vacumn cleaner is only 4 years old and it was a very expensive… Read more
vacumn cleaner ($1,000) this problem should never have occured. Now it's 4.5 years old and the plastic support holding the turbo head in the handle has broken.
The vacumn cleaner also needs an annual service and we have had a number of things done on each occasion.... which all cost money. While the model cleans carpet well the build quality is poor! Cleans well Caught fire. Unacceptable breakages on the vacumn cleaner.
Total waste of money – After a hard sell at Godfreys and $1250 later i have had it 4 years it has been back to Godfreys 5 times for repairs including replaced Telescopic pipe twice, hose, and head, keeps stopping and starting every few seconds nobody knows why, they think its over heating but it dose it from cold, do not buy one in fact dont buy anything from Godfrerys! Good suction Bags too expensive, Parts too expensive, very unreliable, poorly made,

Terrible – After recently returning our very expensive Wertheim 5035 to Godfrey’s for yet more repairs, we now are fed up. Though this device is enormously powerful, in terms of quality it is very poor despite us having it serviced by Godfrey’s regularly. It is heavy and the powerhead, though initially great, soon became erratic thru a bad connection on the… Read more
wand and became an expensive unused accessory in the back of the closet.
During the 3 years we have owned the machine we have had the following problems:
Power head replaced twice
Normal head replaced due to floor surface button breaking
Extension wand replaced
Cord retraction not working
A fire in the cable connection on the wand for the power head
Hose splitting
Each time we have returned it to Godfrey’s where we purchased it for repair where, in one case, they had it for 4 weeks. We are tired of dealing with this machine and have now given up on repairing it again. Any future problems will be dealt with by application of duct tape until it totally dies and we can justify buying a new machine – which will not be a Wertheim of any description. It sucks like nothing else. Quality does not match price
Powerhead initially very good but after being used a few times the power connection on the wand became loose. It then operated only sporadically, until the the arcing in the connection caused a fire.
Ongoing issues with many different parts of the machine.
Service by Godfreys poor.

Surprise! – I was really fast -talked into buying this by the salesman. Being a Pensioner, I only wanted a middle of the road cleaner & I was trading in my old vac which would not suck up dog hairs on the carpet. I was sold a demo model off the floor for half the price. Upon coming home with it I looked up the brand & model on the web and it is… Read more
discontinued!, and difficult to get parts for, but the worst thing I read is that it is Godfrey's own brand, that's why they flog it! Also, they don't take them as trade-ins, and there has been many problems with the plugs for the Power Head attachment. What do I do when it breaks down finally? take it to the tip? Not happy Jan. I feel a little ripped off! It DID suck up the dog hair quite well. It rolls over often whilst in use, so I am forever turning it back upright.
Good power poor mobility – Was talked into this relatively expensive vaccum at the store and must admit it certainly vaccums well. My issue is with the design/ergonomics - it is very heavy, doesn't follow you but rolls over upside down on every opportunity. Neither vaccum or head had good rubber around them so both damage furniture and skirtings if you hit them (easy to do… Read more · 1
with the cleaner as it does not move smoothly behind you). For the price I expected this basic needs of a vaccum cleaner to be better! Otherwise am happy - my house gives it a really good workout twice a week (very thick wool carpet over quite a big house) and it is solid and reliable. Great suction Mobility and habit of flipping upside down.
Requires great effort to vacuum the house but does have rewarding sucking power – I wanted a vacuum cleaner that was easy to use and would follow behind me without too much fuss. The Wertheim 5035 does not make it around door jams or furniture with out a big tug or having to go back and move it around the obstuction, which is very frustrating. It is heavy too. My power head breaks down often requiring repairs costing $40. 3… Read more
x in 1 year.
The bag saver attachment that diverts the dirt away needs to be emptied almost after every room. Mine broke after 1 year of use so I didn't quite cover the cost of the attachment with the savings I made on not buying replacement bags.
Every time I use it I swear out loud and think I will write to Wertheim and tell them how much I hate their design. Perhaps they can employ designers who have actually used a vacuum cleaner to overhall the user unfriendly design. The suction is excellent and when the power head is working it fills the bags very fast. The power head has broken down 3 times and costs $40 to repair. The bag saver accessory to divert the dirt away cost $75 but broke easily.
Manufactured Poorly – I was recommended this product by the sales assistant who demonstrated the great suction power in store and who sold me this product as a reliable, solid vacuum clearer which was my criteria for the purchase. On first use I was immediately aware of the cheap clunky head scraping against the tiles, very different from the solid Volta head I was… Read more
used to. On taking it back to discuss this I was told my only way around it was to purchase another one, min cost to me $35.
Since then the part of the power cord that plugs into the wall has come apart from the wires, the power head has cracked in two different places, the foot for hard floors no longer stays down in place and the hose has split. The suction remains ok though. The reusable vacuum bag also is difficult to seal properly.
I keep checking the web for a recall on this piece of crap! I couldn't imagine a product being more disappointing. It had some suction. Cheaply manufactured, endless number of repairs required.

Werteim 5035 – I bought a Miele which was a mistake. Once Wertheim got rid of the power cord on top it was perfect. The Miele blows hot air upwards onto your face. The wheels are too small to allow it to move smoothly. The major connection doesn't turn. To pick it up you have to bend right down to the undersize.Where the Wertheim handle is on top. things matter greatly to a person who has had several spinal surgeries. What a pity I am stuck with the Miele.
The old power cord on top.
Good if used gently – Had this machine for 5 years with few problems once you use it properly. eg powerhead on carpet works very well if the suction is adjusted to the lowest setting. It works by 'beating' the carpet and if on high suction stops the brushes from turning. Hard floor brush is good on all solid floors. Excellent cleaning ability on all surfaces, has been reliable Very expensive to buy, heavy and cumbersome to store
Great suction but you have to treat it gently – When this machine worked the powerhead and suction made sure the carpet was really clean. The problem was that too many little bits broke or got twisted leading to needing to get it repaired way too often. The worst design feature is putting the powerhead plug over the utilities compartment and on top of the machine. I can't count how many times… Read more · 2
the pins broke or bent. We also had to replace the hose and, after six years, the powerhead gave up working. Discontinued now but beware of second hand sales as you are bound to get one which has had numerous fixes and problems. Great suction and effective powerhead. Expensive, badly designed and too easily broken.
Excellent dirt pick up – I have had my Wertheim 3050 vacuum cleaner for 8 years, and although there are some annoying things with it, I have no regrets whatsoever. I have had a reasonably effective upright Hoover, then a next to useless Vax, which was such a poor performer, that I wondered why I bothered to take it out of the cupboard. Before I purchased this vacuum, I… Read more
did lots of leg work, store to store, and Dyson bagless uprights were the hot thing to buy at the time. I was however, impressed with the quality and sturdiness of the Wertheim, albeit it somewhat heavy.
I also looked at other bagless cleaners and bought home a $400 bagless version, thinking that the wertheim, although impressive, was just too expensive. However, after only one cleaning session with the bagless vacuum, and then having to inhale the dust contents in order to empty the container, (so much for hepa filters, cough...)I packed it up and took it straight back to Ausvac, and purchased the Wertheim.
The first time I used the Wertheim, I was changing the bag at the end of each ROOM, because there was so much dust in my carpets! (hang head in shame)
This vacuum cleaner is excellent at extracting the dust due to the power head. The bags are special filter bags, that keep the machine spotless inside, and allow full suction even when full. There is no mess or fuss to change the bag. Simply lift out, and clip the plastic lid over the hole and discard! No dust particles to inhale or get on clothes! Because the inside cavity of the machine stays so clean, I seldom need to wash the first filter, and have only recently needed to buy a new end stage Hepa filter in the eight years I have had it. I received 10 free services included in the price and have the machine serviced regularly.
I also have polished floor boards, and have a lovely wide soft bristle hard floor tool for this.
The only issues I have had is that because it is a heavy machine, the electrical connections within the stainless steel rod tend to work loose after a while and I have recently had to pay $40 for a second replacement rod. Also, the electric pin attachment cord has required replacement, not at the vacuum barrel end but at the flexible hose connection, and as one other contributor noted, its attachment to the barrel is placed in a ridiculous position, where you have to disconnect it to gain access to the small tool compartment.
However, other than that, I have been very very satisfied with this purchase and would not hesitate to buy another. Whenever I have used someone else's vacuum, I can immediately tell the difference in suction and results. Excellent cleaning power, the inside of the barrel stays clean, the bags ensure a clean, no-touch technique in changing bags The electrical connections tend to loosen over time
Bad – Paying over a thousand dollars for the machine I would have liked hazzle free vacuuming. I purcahsed the machine from a home show and found it difficult to speak to the manager who sold the machine to me from head office. powerful machine replaced powerhead, found it difficult open and close the nozzle pipes. Have been to Godreys 0n 3 occasions with regards to problems with machine.
Terrible – Basically, this product really does SUCK - but in a bad way. Paid far too much for a bad, bad product. I have had it only 4 years and had it into Godfreys for repairs 4 times, basically once a year. The second last time we followed it up to the regional manager with our complaints but all they did was fix it again and within 6 cleans the powerhead… Read more
stopped working again. They have now fixed the powerhead and we are SELLING IT QUICK!!!!!! Even our request to Godfreys for a trade in on another cleaner did not work - they won't take them back as trade ins!!! What does this say about their confidence in this product.
BEST TIP! - DO NOT BUY A WERTHEIM!!!! This product really does suck well if you can get it to work Too many connections which become faulty and lose power often. You need to disconnect the powerhead lead to get to cleaning tools and when you do this many times, the pins on connector become bent and faulty. Powerhead becomes loose and wobbles around and not able to direct it efficiently. The Powerhead is too bulky to fit under most lower furniture areas.
Terrible – worst bit of junk ever purchased. Thought the Dyson was bad. This is a shocker. Extremely expensive & certainly believe I was ripped off!! very powerful suction so so heavy. BUT the worst is the fact it's breaking apart everywhere...at the powerhead, at the top of the hose....have had to use strong adhesive tape to hold it together.
Excellent – I think this Vacuum cleaner is the best on the market and best Vacuum cleaner i have had in my house.
