If inserted incorrectly in scabbard it won't come out again (Wiltshire Staysharp Utility Knife 13cm) – If you accidentally insert it into the scabboard the wrong way it gets stuck. There's a warning on the knife, but is an easy mistake to make. Customer service told me there was no safe way to remove it, but were quick to offer a replacment. I made a video "Wiltshire Staysharp Knife Stuck in Sharpener Wrong Way - How to fix" for those look for an… Read more

unofficial way to remove: https://youtube.com/shorts/quUZ2o7cp1E

(basically you need to turn it upside-down and hit it with something until the knife comes out)

More hopeful and positive – I bought a pair of the Staysharp Wiltshire kitchen scissors on the Internet since it seems the only place to do so but after only a few months use they fell apart. I contacted the company and this is their response: Hi Jennifer, Thank you for getting in touch with us. Our kitchen scissors are designed to be easily pulled apart for convenient… Read more

cleaning or maintenance. This feature allows you to separate the two blades, making it simple to clean any accumulated debris or residue.

[Name Removed], Customer Service D 1800 709 714 A 90B Euston Road, Alexandria NSW 2015 E support@fackelmann.com.au W Fackelmannhousewares.com.au signature_595426583 AND I REPLIED- Hi [Name Removed], I tried to do that the first time they fell apart, but they fell apart again soon after – I wasn’t expecting this. Perhaps I didn’t read the small print so each time I put them together again now they just fall apart, and now I can’t get them to stay on at all. I can’t even connect them and neither can anyone else who have tried to help me. That’s why I contacted you - I thought there must be something wrong here – perhaps you can direct me to an Internet site that demonstrates how to do this? Sincerely, Jennifer Corlett On 3 Jul 2024, at 12:08 PM. In the meantime, I decided to search for such a ‘how to fix the scissors back’ on the Internet myself, but cannot find any, in fact in their sales pitch there is no reference to they being ‘easily pulled apart’ I telephoned the customer service phone line and an automated voice said they can’t answer right now – leave a message and then immediately corrected themselves by saying message bank is full. I cannot leave any messages. Unless I get any more response via email it would seem that I am not going to get any satisfaction (nor anyone else, for that matter) and I have wasted my money. I will keep you posted. FINAL UPDATE Have been sent a replacement pair of scissors – they seem to work very well, however, when I searched on the back of the packaging for instructions about pulling them apart, and replacing them for cleaning, there was no reference to that at all. I can only conclude that I was misinformed in my initial inquiry, I am glad I pursued it. If I have not been so sure that the product had been faulty I would not have argued the matter. Not impressed by the information provided, nor communication skills of the receptionist who dealt with the matter. After all this, I’m still pleased with the product, I think they’re excellent scissors and I hope they last me as long as the previous ones I bought.

Wiltshire 'staysharps'..poor decline in quality! – Just bought 2 new "Staysharps" from local store..the 3rd in 6 months ,hoping these 2 would be better than the previous. Badly mistaken. They've changed the 'construction' of them..75% WORSE now, than some 5 years ago!. Similar price, but obviously 'cost cutting'..very bad business decision as so many bad 'reviews' illustrate. Don't waste your money with Wiltshire brand any more!!! – Wiltshire scissors were fantastic when we bought them but the so-called sharpening mechanism we have to keep it in, does not sharpen it. These scissors won't even cut a piece of paper any more.. seriously, don't waste your money.. The scissors I've had for 8 years in my office drawer, are still incredibly sharp, they put yours to shame. Tell the truth Wiltshire, it is not 'staysharp'!!! They should be renamed 'GoBlunt'!!! Let's be honest here. Show details

Garbage – I paid more than $800 CAD, on a (yep, get this) 50% off sale for a full block of Wiltshire stay sharp knives. paid more than, what? $70/month for the use of knives? How is that reasonable? tossing the whole thing in the trash, and never going back to that manufacturer, ever. What a waste (I could burn the wooden block to save land fill, but then I'd be contributing to the carbon problem on this planet). When are manufacturers going to be brought to task on contributing the waste on this planet? Seriously....

Vintage Staysharp knife – I bought a small, black staysharp knife about 30 years ago. It was so good I bought my mother one. Unfortunately mine just broke the other day, it was my fault. I used the knife for everything as it was just so easy to use. I will miss that little knife as I've looked and looked and the excellent design is not available any more. But I can't believe how well it lasted and would have kept doing so. What a buy that was. Thanks Staysharp. Show details

Dangerous design – As others on this forum ,purchased a small Wiltshire knife which had become stuck in its sharpening scabbard. I am afraid to try and remove this knife as it is very sharp and the chance of accidental injury is high. This knife is unsafe and should be removed from sale.

Dangerous packaging – This review is in relation to a small Wiltshire kitchen knife - this seems to be the closest option. Scissors are Faulty and a Waste of Money – I purchased one and couldn’t get it out. Took it back to Coles and they couldn’t even get it out! Until they recall what’s out there and correct this fault the scissors are a waste of money. Don’t buy them.

16 years and going – I bought the knife set in the wooden block 16 years ago as my first knife set and never looked back. Love that they have a nice looking wooden block to sit in (and dry) and store rather than sliding around dangerously in my drawer. cooking again (due to quarantine) and found they weren't as sharp as I had remembered. Gave them a quick sharpen (very carefully on 1 side, avoiding the serration) and good as new but looked 'nicked'. That's probably more my fault than the knives but I would highly recommend this as an economical first set of decent knives!

Get scissors out of sharpening sheath – Hit the sheath hard once on a benchtop with blue button end down and scissor handles up. Then use brute force to pull them out. After that I used sugru to stop the scissors being pushed all the way in. I'm hoping the mechanism loosens up with use and I can take the sugru off eventually. Show details

Print size on scabbard – The knife works very well. My problem is that I cannot see the print on the scabbard. (Just aged eyes). I often put the knife in upside down, so it jambs. scabbard, but this looks tacky.

Update: October 2020. A second Wiltshire knife: I bought another smaller Wiltshire knife a couple of weeks ago, again from Coles but for $12. Presumably it is of the new design mentioned below. Disaster! I thought I would recognise the correct way to put the knife in, but being tired one night, I put it in half way, but upside down. I cannot budge it. The more I struggled, the deeper the knife went in. My first, larger knife has a release button; this second smaller knife does not. The small knife is totally unusable, and has worked out to about $2 a cut. Update: November 2020. I finally got this second knife out of the scabbard. I used my rock-spitting hammer on the scabbard. That has been smashed to smithereens, but I got the knife back. I will just have to sharpen it on my whet stone.

Hopefully our new design will make this a little easier to see the right way up.

They DONT HONOUR THE Warranty – I bought a knife and its sharpening scabbard fell to bits. They have discontinued making this over 5 years ago. I bought mine on sale from woollies under 4 years ago. obvious which way to put the knife back in the sheath. Now, I bought it back then through someone who was selling it through the Pampered Chef company - back when they were still keeping the Wiltshire name on them. At some point Pampered Chef just put their own name on them instead. I don't know if Wiltshire is doing anything differently these days or if people who are overall satisfied with products tend to not post reviews, but I've not had to replace mine in all these years! I could never figure out why other companies weren't producing knives with the sharpener built into the cover and didn't make knives that can also go into a dishwasher.

So far so good – All knives come as sharp as they can be. It is true the sheath is not very well designed, and it is difficult to figure out the right way to insert the knife while sharpening. It is very important to wash and dry them as soon as possible after use as I already have some rust marks in a couple of them for leaving in the dishwasher for too long. In summary, it is a good product but far from perfect!

Form over function – Great idea - a knife that sharpens itself as you insert or withdraw it from its sheath. Sadly the designers decided that the sheath should be totally symmetrical, so you don't know which way round to insert the knife. Some genius at Wiltshire obviously figured this out a bit late in the process so they added a tiny afterthought sticker next to… Read more

the slot with an arrow pointing to the cutting edge. The sticker of course comes unstuck and scratched up after a while, and most people don't even think that it matters, so I find that 50% of the time the last person to use it has put it back in the wrong way round, gradually sharpening the back edge of the knife and probably damaging the sharpening mechanism in the process.

This on the back of a bread knife that won't cut straight, and I won't buy Wiltshire products again - they are just very poorly designed. Save your money.
