Purchased one of these through Pool and Spa warehouse Georges Hall recommended by the technician. He said it would suit my Pool when I first installed it gave them a call ,told hi it will not climb up the side of the walls. He told me to take a couple of hoses pieces off. Took 2 m off then it started working properly, what a great pool cleaner best one I’ve had over 20 years life of the Pool. Show details
It worked great for the first year or so, the first things to need replacing often were the tyres, which wasnt the end of the world but now it needs internal replacement parts every few months that end up costing a few hundred each year because they wont sell the cheap little plastic cog separately or upgrade its integrity so that it doesnt need… Read more
constant replacing. To continue using the machine coats around the same as purchasing a brand new machine every single year. After about 4-5 years of loyalty Ive given up. Its a huge waste of money.
I have had this cleaner for about 5 years. I constantly need to clear very small leaves and debris from the inlet area as it stops the machine from cleaning. The hoses that have been specifically designed for this machine are garbage as they fall aprt and need to be replaced in a very short period of time. The wheel tracks also need to be replaced… Read more
about every 6 months along with a total tune up kit because the plastic gears are designed to strip and fail about every year or so. Planned obsolescence and constant designed maintenance is how I would summarize this product.

Top notch pool cleaner – This machine is awesome, does what it says in the description. If you wanna good pool cleaner, look no further, just sit back and enjoy your pool. Show details · 1
I was Skeptical After reading some reviews – We purchased this product after going through many negative reviews which almost put us off but it’s been fantastic. When we originally got it, it wasn’t working. The problem had nothing to do with the unit but with the filter and the pump and the pressure it was sending through. Once that was fixed it has been working fantastically. Very happy with the purchase so far Show details · 1
Zodiac MX8 Pool Cleaner Poor hose quality – The Zodiac MX8 is generally a good device. Unfortunately it has one operational flaw and one poor quaity feature. The cleaner hangs up on convex surfaces around steps as the tracks loose tracrion. The biggest issue is teh poor quality hoses that are not fit for purpose in Australian conditions. After around 4 years these started to fail. at $20+… Read more
each this is an ongoing unnecessary cost. I have sent this information to the OS manufacturer with no response and the Australian office fobs you of too dealers who get unsatisfactory responses with a fob off that it is a water quality issue. This is not true as a retired water engineer my pool water quality is excellent and is kept within acceptable range of pool water quality standards.
In just over a year, both tracks are loosen, contact customer service, they advise to order parts from them, what a cheap product, never buy this brand again Show details
Useless around palms, apart from that works ok – I've had it for around 9 months now. I have a few trees nearby including palms. When the palms drop stringy bits the cleaner immediately clogs and doesn't work. I have to pull it out of the pool daily to removed the palm frond stringers. I have had to dissassemble the gearbox 3 times since owning to remove contaminents clogging the internal gears.… Read more
Do not buy if you have any palm litter falling in your pool. Works great on standard little leaves. Clogs immediately with anything long or stringy. Very disappointing, feel like Zodiac should annotate the limitations correctly. Box should read "Do not use around Palms".

Horrible – To be honest. I was happy with the initial purchase. It worked well, however after a short time (maybe 12 months) I noticed it only traveling in one direction. It would stop and not reverse. Apparently this is a common problem with the gearbox breaking and while you can buy replacement parts but they are not cheap. After 1.5 years the tracks… Read more
have no tread and constantly slip of causing the cleaner to stop completely.
The proprietary hose (Twist Lock) is just as bad. I had sections start falling apart within the first 12 months and now after 1.5 years every one of the 10 sections has split and "de twisted" into a spirally rope while simply picking the hose up.
To make matters worse, Zodiac sell their proprietary hose sections for $20+ each! $200 to replace a hose? Luckily third party companies have released universal hose adapters so I'll just be using a generic hose that won't fall apart with an adapter.
In all after 1.5 years the cost to replace the hose and purchase a "Tune Up Kit" will cost between $250 - $300. This is around 50% of the original purchase!
Avoid buying this or any of the cheaper pool cleaners. If you notice the company sells "Tune Up Kits" that is a red flag. Avoid!!
Good job but limited life – Got this nearly 5 years ago for $550 to replace a Kreepy Krawly and it did a much better job because it got right in the corners, up the sides and the hose did not stick in the roman ends as the Kreepy did much of the time. It does not handle large leaves or stiff twigs (jams) but this was not a problem for me as we don't get a lot of leaf debris… Read more · 1
except in autumn and I clear any big stuff with a pool net after a windy day.
It DOES HAVE A LOT OF MOVING PARTS AND THEY WEAR OUT. They are easy to replace but are expensive - $120-130 for a full refurb kit and it is not worth buying individual parts as they are very very pricey. I have done the refurb twice, and while the first time lasted 15 months, the second lasted only 9 months. I did a track replacement in between as well. I surmise that either the material quality has gone down and the parts wear quicker, or the non-replaceable parts of the device have worn and impose extra strain on the replacements. Either way the machine's life is limited and I recommend only doing one refurbishment and assume you will get a total of four years out of the MX8. Factor that into the price..
It did do a great job and if Zodiac could improve its durability I would purchase again.
I now have a Zodiac G20, bought a month ago, using the hose that came with the MX8 (that's a handy interchange) and so far it is fine, if not quite as effective as the MX8. However, I expect a longer life and little maintenance expense.
MX8 Elite review – I have a rectangle pool roughly 10K gallons, not screened. It was installed in 2000. I live in Florida so its almost always pool season. I originally had a three wheeled cleaner (no name bashing), it worked ok but within six months it developed transmission gear problems and I had to repair it four times before I had it two years. I then went to a… Read more · 1
suction cleaner that had one moving part, an oscillating diaphragm. This also worked ok but because of the slope of the pool bottom and strong circulation it almost never made it to the shallow end. This lasted for many years. The only part I would have to replace is the ribber diaphragm every 18 months or so. I was recommended the MX8 Elite by my local pool store. I really didn't want to plunk down that much money but there was a big rebate and an inline catch basket thrown in. I'v had it now for 16 months. I have to say I am very very pleased with this product. Does it occasionally get jammed? Yes, once about every two weeks or so. My pool is not screened and there are trees around it. But it cleans EVRYWHERE. Up the sides, all over. Every pool cleaner used in a pool that is not screened will get jammed at some point. I know, I've had three. Leaves and normal debris don't clog it but acorns and long weeds (weed trimming debris) can. The inline basket catches debris that used to clog my pool pump filter and motor and motor filter. I highly recommend it.

The experience I had with this company is very professional and has excellent service – The Zodiac MX8 is a good pool cleaner. doesn't like the bigger leaves but certainly does a great job. Would highly recommend for the average back yard that does not have long leaf trees. Show details · 1

No dramas – Zodiac MX8 was supplied with my new concrete pool almost 10yrs ago. It was an easy decision to go same product again. It climbs side walls easily. I did replace tyre tracks twice and rebuild gears once ....easy job for 70yr old female :) We leave cleaner in the pool and simply put to the side or lift out when swimming. Only 1 swimming its easy to go around if necessary. Show reply
Great product – We had a rebel pool cleaner , as we get quite a few leaves , and it did do good job we purchased this Mx8 and it’s I fantastic, does a great job job , very happy Show details · 1

Don`t waste your money – Paid $800 for it. Could not get it to run, got a pool tech out, and he said I needed to put the filter on backwash to make it work. It did for about ten minutes. Had sent it back for a part replacement (almost new) Just don`t waste your money on this. Show details
Endless money pit – You will constantly nee to replace parts that almost cost what new unit costs. We bought a second one to ensure we always had a functioning backup but it just became too expensive to justify the money we were spending just on maintenance and repairs. Do yourself a favor if you don't have endless funds give this thing a miss. Show details
Expensive mistake – MX8 cannot handle gum leaves. It has never completed a tour of duty without needing intervention multiple times. Sometimes it requires complete dismantling to remove offending item. It works fine if pool is manually vacuumed first to remove leaves and twigs. This of course defeats the purpose of having a pool cleaner. Would I buy one again? No! Show details

Best cleaner on the market – Just ordered my second Zodiac MX8 as last one put out to pasture after 10 years of service installed one service kit on that time just an amazing machine we get leaves seeds and flowers all year round from neighbours trees MX8 never misses a beat however palm fronds it does not like but neither does any other cleaner may need to buy one for future… Read more · 1
as I fear the industry is heading to robotic cleaners which don’t make sense to me they need to be fished out to clean a small basket and need charging etc sounds like more work the MX8 just connect to hose at skimmer box and will go until you stop it never let me down may need a service kit in 5 years but great value for money highly recommend hope never gets discontinued my only fear!
My best friend MX8 pool cleaner – I had my last MX 8 pool cleaner for approximately 10 years left permanently in my salt water pool. Every few years I replaced the tune up kit. It was still working when I recently replaced it but was failing to climb the pool walls even with a replacement tune up kit. I highly recommend the mx8. It has prolonged the life of my pool. I only have… Read more · 1
a 3.5x4.2 metre plunge pool and have the timer set to two off peak periods for a duration of 2 hours each during the night. It's cheap to run. I do recommend if your neighbours yard is very leafy like mine, that you check daily that no large broad leaves get stuck in the propellers like my neighbours mango leaves do in mine occasionally.
MX8 tune up kit – I actually purchased the tune up kit for this model. Awesome company to deal with and super fast delivery. Saved me $$$ on a new robot cleaner. Show details · 1
The affordable cleaning companion – A quiet, very efficient pool cleaner reaching all corners of the pool and climbs walls easily to waters edge leaving a thoroughly clean pool. Show details

The mx8, get one – Had it for about 8 years now. Yes. Same one. I've put 1 tune up kit through it about 2 years ago and replaced the hose last year. It works like the first day I bought it. We leave it in 24/7 unless we have a heap of people over for a swim. So that may be the reason I had to replace the hose along, with Australian summer's and the chemicals added… Read more
to the pool. We don't deal with large leaves though. Mainly peppermint tree leaves, by the thousand, and dust. I recommend if you don't have large debris to deal with. It climbs right out of the water too.
Be careful - does not work with Gum tree leaves in Aus – The good: This is a great cleaner if you have soft debry on the pool floor. It’s never been so clean (even better than the robot I had previously) The bad: it’s not made for Australian conditions. A single gum leaf gets trapped in the suction head jamming the drive train. I’ve tried both the large and small openings and without question every… Read more
morning it’s jammed as I have a gum tree adjacent to the pool. Don’t buy this is you have any gum trees anywhere near the pool
This machine does an excellent job! – Just set and forget. It even sucks the debris off the lip that sits approx 30cm under the water line in our fibreglass pool. Show details
OK value for money – It's made up of individual components, so you can readily replace broken or worn-out bits. I've had mine for four years and I have given up on it. It is worn out and so am I. Does an ok job of cleaning everything. Can't really climb walls all that well after 6 months. Criss crosses the pool ok. Can't do the steps. A good mid-range cleaner. Show details
Thumbzup!! – I've had years taken off my life by persisting with the diaphragm style cleaners. I can't believe I took so long to say enough is enough. This thing is a godsend. No noise, the pool is spotless, and haven't had to do a thing to it during its first month in the pool. My pool doesn't have trees around it, so it only has to clean general dirt/dust… Read more
and the odd leaf, nothing too taxing for it. Update - Dec 2024 My pool is pebble crete and the tracks get chewed up fairly quickly. Also, I've had to buy 2 tune up kits to fix reversing gear problems, so it's not all rosy, and not particularly cheap to maintain. Probably costs me $200 per year to keep it running smoothly... That said, it still does a good job.
Terrific pool attendant – The old MX8 has done well for about 10 years in our 10mx4m fibreglass pool with 2 repair kits and several tyre replacements. I had to repair the swivel connection a few years ago since rough handling damaged it and other parts are showing wear. It is only a matter of time until it's finally too old to be relied upon so the new one will stay in the box until then. I purchased another before prices jumped again. Show details · 1
Great workhorse – I bought a second hand one in New Zealand, and I was impressed with it. When we moved to Brisbane, the house had a pool cleaner and I knew when I would need a replacement, the mx8 would be a great contender. I considered the mx6 and a few other robots as well. Everyone recommended to take the robot out after every clean, while the mx's can be left in the pool and work off the pump. I eventually decided to get a new mx8. Show details
One of the best pool cleaners I've ever come across – This cleaner does it all, impressed with the availability of self maintenance kit would and have recommended the MX8 to friends for their pools Show details
