2014 Fiesta ST – Owned my 2014 fiesta ST for about 4 years. Had 70k on it when I bought it. I've done about 100k kms. It has a tune, 3inch exhaust and uprated intercooler. Never had any major issues with it. Only had a leaking master cylinder on the clutch but that was at 165k kms and wasn't a big job. The steering on the fiesta is what sold me on buying one. I… Read more

know it's not the fastest car in the world but sure feels it sometimes. The interior is very cheap base fiesta but it was a 00s car originally. Would be great for someone looking to get into a cheap to run/maintain sports car/hot hatch. Lots of aftermarket bolt ons from Uk/US. Love the car to bits. I will probably keep it as long as I can afford to run 2 cars.

Don't buy it! – Do yourself a favour and don't touch any Fiestas or Focuses from 2011 till 2016. All fitted with the dry clutch technology which ford alleges was the 'technology of the future' These cars shudder, jerk, lose power, rattle, and are sluggish. We were told they were 'adaptive driving' and the car will learn how you drive it. Just another excuse from… Read more

Ford, they knew these cars were lemons and continued to sell them to us, the unknowing victims. Clutch replacements will be needed, engine mounts crack due to excessive shuddering. Heater cores crack, also due to excessive shuddering. The last straw is TCM failure, a very costly thing that occurs in this car. Only offered a warranty on the TCM for 10 years, or 100,000 KMs (whichever comes first) we are still waiting on the judge to hand down his decision on compensation'. It was found Ford willingly sold these vehicles for 7 whole years, despite knowing they were absolute lemons. Refused refunds when people weren't happy with their new car purchase. They are still appealing the lawsuit. It's almost 9 years since we started the fight with Ford and we are still waiting! If I can save even one person from buying this crap car, then I'll be happy. You will get no sympathy from Ford, despite being made to pay the ACC $10 million for selling these lemons. Save yourself the heartache and steer clear of them.

10 years and still indestructible – 2009 Fiesta Zetec WS 3 Door. Manual. I think it's made in Germany. I have absolutely rung my car's neck since day one of purchase as a demo car and it doesn't miss a beat. Over 10 years of owning it l trust it extremely in many driving situations. Anyone that says they don't handle well is probably comparing them to cars twice the price. Read… Read more

Popular Car reviews on them. 100km/h at night, highbeam, windy roads are a breeze. Traction control needs to be taken out and thrown in a bin though in my opinion. Light, well balanced, easy to correct steering. A 5 speed manual that can do170km/h in 4th gear is very good for it's 88kw I'd say. Fuel efficient if not redlining the gears. Can travel a long distance on 0/KM to empty (reserve) done that a few times.

Always changed oil and filter myself. 5W30 as stated in book. Approximately Every 6 months. Fully synthetic most of the time.

Stereo blows my wifes newer Barina. Easy to upgrade.

Appart from front brakes being changed, timing belt was first big service at 150 000kms cost me $850 at Midway Ford Midland. Now that is a dam cheap price to supply and fit a timing belt kit.

It's got fair wear n tear on body and interior and currently sitting on 198 000kms. Air con probably has a leak but i never get around to fixing it and it's more fun with both windows down for me.

Just replaced clutch at 198 000kms $925 fitted, feels like when i drove it out of the shop new.

Unless you offered me 3 or probably 4 times what it's resale price is now i would never sell it :D

Finally found some 4-2-1 headers yay and waiting on a mild cam set. Looks like there are more companies selling aftermarket parts now for these naturally aspirated 1600's.

1 shockie is on its way out, what do you expect after 10 yrs and some unforseen kerb/speed hump ouches.

Valve clearances is the next big service but not yet.

Sorry to hear about people's bad experiences with ye olde Fiesta.

All the best.

Great to drive, awful to own – Bought a 2014 built Fiesta, new, in 2015. It is a super city car: excellent seats, love the steering and the gears and the aircon. Boot space is good for such a small car. However, the SYNC Bluetooth is not good. Have had persistent issues with connectivity that Ford Australia were not prepared to assist with. The bodywork leaks. The joint… Read more

between roof and body panels has a tendency to split. In my case that has resulted in the spare wheel housing filling with water to such an extent that my spare wheel and jack are now unusable. Ford Australia have accepted this is problematic and have offered 25% towards the $1700 cost to repair, which I feel is pretty poor. They have offered nothing towards the spare wheel and jack.

My window tinting failed, making the car unsafe to drive. This has been reapplied but was disappointing all the same.

My car has travelled 30,000kms and is serviced annually by my local dealer. It is still a lovely car to drive, although I won't go out in the rain (and I live in the tropics), but overall my experience is not good. The car is supposed to be passed down in my family (just bought a new Mazda 3) but unsure what to do with it currently, so it's sat in my garage.

Great little car – I know Ford doesn't have an amazing name in Australia but I think we've had ours long enough now to write a fair review. Ours is a 2016 Ambiente model, which we bought as a demo. It's quiet, fuel efficient and has overall been a positive experience for us. There was one issue that was disappointing and we did have to get fixed ourselves (not at… Read more

Ford's expense). Our battery went flat so we called out a mechanic to jump start it, afterwards the car wouldn't drive properly. After Googling it, found it is a problem with this particular model. We had hoped Ford would recognise this but they didn't. From my vagueness you can tell this was a couple of year's ago now and have had no issues since or any other issues beyond what is to be expected for an ageing car.

The Ford garage staff in Tempe are really good. Don't recommend the Ford garage in Greenacre as the staff just weren't as nice.

A surprisingly brilliant car! – I picked up this German-manufactured WS Fiesta CL with 190,000km in 2021 as a daily for the humble sum of $2200. It was desperately in need of new brakes and tyres, and didn't come with a logbook (usually a big no no for me, however, based on assessment of the oil and fluids, it had been serviced in the past 10,000km and had no sludging.) It was… Read more

in excellent condition with only signs of a minor side-swipe repair on the driver's door, made up for by a smart set of wide aftermarket rims thrown in with the car.

I expected very little, especially given the reputation fiestas gained after the spate of gearbox issues with the introduction of the DuraShift dual clutch 'box so maligned in latter versions of the model. This Fiesta however has the venerable 1.6L ti-vct engine paired with a manual gearbox so none such issues plague it.

MECHANICAL So far the car has been incredibly strong, as is typical of these "sigma" engines from Ford. It is quite torquey, and has consistenly returned sub-7.0 litres per 100 kilometres. It's also easy to work on for those who service cars themselves, with most components being readily accessible. Parts are also quite cheap and accessible, with things like expansion tanks (a common weakness) selling for $40 and being easy to replace without tools. Serpentine belt was $20. Brake disks and pads were less than $100 for the front set.

It pays to run it on 98 octane, as lower fuel qualities has produced rattling/pinging noted in many reviews of the car from new. Further, it is common for these engines to get valvetrain rattle. As this engine has solid tappets, adjustment is a royal pain, though it won't cause major issues if left to be indefinitely. It also has a pesky timing belt, though the factory belt is noted as quite strong and has large change intervals.

DRIVING One of the highlights of the fiesta platform is its ability to provide sportscar-rivalling handling, thanks to excellent chassis stiffness, suspension calibration and weighty steering with excellent feel. My previous car was an Alfa Guilietta QV and it didn't feel half as agile as this fiesta. If you like a sporty feel, then this car is worth every cent. The gearshift is also delightful, with a short throw and excellent engagement.

INTERIOR

An an owner of the previous generation of Fiesta, here is where I feel ford's money went. The difference in this case is night-and-day, with this interior feeling better put together and even a touch upmarket. Even after 200,000km, it remains tights and rattle-free. Switchgear, aside from the indicator stalk, feels solid and the dash is soft-touch. Even the stereo easily surpasses various factory BOSE units I've had in previous cars, a common praise on this model.

The driving position is also spot-on, with extensive adjustment in the seat and steering wheel and above-average leg and pedal room. Seats are well bolstered and have more padding than expected, making it a comfortable place to be on longer journeys.

Overall cabin space is as expected, although the car has comfortably accommodated four circa-6ft adults despite its diminutive dimensions. Boot is also surprisingly accommodating, at around 250 litres total space. It is a shame it doesn't have the fold-flat seats of the Jazz.

CONCLUSION So if you have a budget of less than $5000, the fiesta is definitely worth a look. Due to the reputation gained by later models, prices of all fiestas are deflated so now is the time to grab one of these excellent, reliable cars.

Cheapest way to have so much fun – Bought a 2009 WS Fiesta LX with the 1.6 Duratec pared up to the 5 Speed manual transmission. It's an absolute cracking car to drive, awesome handling car, easy to learn manual in and the 1.6 has a lot of poke. The 1.6 has a decent amount of power (88kw) and super torquey (152Nm) for a small hatch. Like mentioned before the Fiesta's party piece is… Read more

just how damn good they drive. Steering is spot on, suspension handles the bends with absolute ease. In fact the suspension is that good I'd say it's better than some of the warm hatchbacks out there. Combining the awesome handling with the good engine it makes for such a fun car to drive. Could possibly argue it's more fun to drive than some hot hatches. Gear shifts are pretty good as well apart from reverse which I'll explain in the cons. Looks are subjective, I personally like the looks of them compared to the later WZ Fiesta and previous Wp/Wq Fiesta. However the three door Zetec is definitely the best looker. Interior wise it's surprisingly decent compared to its rivals of the time such as the Barina, Getz and Yaris. Design of the dash is pretty good and the infotainment screen provides a good amount of information and customizability to suit your stereo base, treble and much more levels. You can also store up to 10 phones in the bluetooth system, change some of the cars settings and even got voice activation. The dash is straight from 2009 with a lot of buttons mimicking a Nokia phone. These are just some of the many features in the Fiesta however be aware in the base Cl model for the Ws Fiesta you don't get the bigger screen and as many features. My two biggest complaints about the interior is mainly the seats. Not very supportive in any model below the Zetec and have some pretty ugly patterns on them (especially the LX). Second is the fact while there is bluetooth, Ford has stopped supporting "Ford Audio" in 2018 so you can't play music through your phone bluetooth any more. If your tall and worried about head room theres no need to worry, I'm 6,6 and fit perfectly inside grant there is no leg room for the seat behind the drivers seat. Living with a Fiesta is very cheap and easy and again super fun. Costs very little to run, parts are pretty cheap and my Fiesta has done 167,000km and not one single problem yet.

Cons with owning a WS Fiesta - With manual Fiesta's, reverse doesn't always engage fully or just doesn't want to go into reverse and cause a grinding noise. Pops straight in after however its annoying, pretty bad for your transmission and can be very embarrassing. There has been times when I've needed to leave a place quickly and the transmission play's up and is very frustrating - Paint fade is problem with all euro Fords and other brands but Fiesta bears the brunt of it the most. My Fiesta hasn't got paint fade but thats because of me constantly washing it and protecting it. My car lives outside as well so if you care about the paint and leaving it outside and not wanting to deal with the effort to maintain the paint best to buy a white Fiesta - As much as I love Fords and don't really like people commenting about it I do have to say build quality isn't the best. They aren't horrendous like some make you to believe but my Fiesta has it's fair of issues. The only main issue is the passenger window switch won't go back up but the driver can control that so isn't a massive issue however there are a few small issues that are cheap and easy to fix.

Overall these cons shouldn't put you off cause Fiesta's are great cars especially to drive and also to daily drive/learn to drive in like I am doing. Would highly recommend them to everyone. Here are some things to consider when buying a Fiesta to help you choose the right one for you. - Wp/Wq/Ws Fiesta's are built in Germany, Wt/Wz Fiesta's (excluding the Wz St and Wg St) are made in Thailand - With the WS Fiesta all the manuals are paired with the 88kw 1.6 4 Cylinder Engine where all the autos are paired up with 71kw 1.4 4 Cylinder Engine. Obviously if you can't drive manual go with the Auto they are still decent units but I'd highly recommend the manual just cause you get the powerful engine, more fuel efficient, much more fun to drive and stronger - If fuel efficiency is your main concern Ford does do a Diesel version called the ECOnetic with a 1.6 Turbo Diesel engine. It gets a claimed 3.7L/100KM where as my 1.6 petrol gets 6.1L/100KM. It only comes with a manual transmission and only available as the 5 Door (same with the LX) - AVOID THE POWERSHIFT 6 SPEED AUTO AT ALL COSTS. These dual clutch auto boxes are just full of trouble and the definition of not smooth. They were available in the later Wt and Wz Fiesta and while you could justify buying one of its the Wz for the updated looks, interior and the absolute gem of an engine the 1.0 Ecoboost there is no point of getting it in the Wt where they look the same as the Ws, with the same interior. If your getting an auto Wt Fiesta you may as well just go and buy a Wb Festiva from 1991.

Hope this helps some people out there. Once again I'll mention it but these Fiesta's are some of the most fun cars you can buy for the money. They just handle so well that you can't put it into words. Don't believe me just read all the reviews, magazines and if you want to have a laugh watch Top Gear test one in Season 12 Ep 6

Brilliant little car – Firstly we have owned a few fords. 81 KA laser, 88 ea, 97 el, 99 laser, 2000 KA, 2000 AU, 13 fiesta, 18 eco sport. All have been amazing with their own quirks and features. The most unreliable by far was the 88 EA, but was probably my favourite to drive however. My Au was the best for maintenance and required the least, super comfortable on… Read more

long drives but a bit much around town. We have also owned other brands within this period as well. pulsar, Magna, commodores, barinas, carnival, cx9’s and some that I’ve forgotten. CX9 is the best people mover and work car I’ve had so far. I’ve also had vans from Renault, mazada, toyota, ford and Mitsubishi.

Of all the cars I have driven the fiesta is probably the most fun. It handles like a champion, has a reasonable performance from factory, sips the fuel and has ample space. I often put tool boxes in it and attend small jobs on weekends when I don’t have access to my larger cx9. It is nice on long drives and great around town. The larger engines cars are more suited to long drives but this beats the eco sport hands down in ride quality and ease of use, the eco sport is too firm and sluggish compared to this. I find however that it is always searching for a gear in auto mode when you give it the beans. I use sport or manual modes and find that it makes a massive difference to the experience and overtaking of large trucks. It is an awesome car to flog around because you can do ever thing at a lower speed and remain within the limit when compared to the larger engined cars.

Now that being said, it is built to a price point, plastics are cheap, quality is acceptable, features are adequate for the day and trim level. This car has only had 60-70k put on it from new. Been to Queensland, Sydney, Adelaide and all over regional vic. It will hopefully will go to central Aust this year with some luck. It’s been a short distance daily and is kept because it hasn’t skipped a beat the whole time. This hasn’t been maintenance free though. It’s had a few gaskets and a water pump go, plus some other things. These were all picked up with regular servicing and never became a large issue that left anyone stranded or damaged anything else. It also has that persistent transmission shudder but other than that, nothing noteworthy. Compare this to every other car I’ve owned it’s nothing unusual, except for the 2000 au and 99 laser. These cars were the definition of indestructible. 350k+ on the au and 280k+ on the laser. No major issues ever and they were only replaced because we needed a large car or needed the space.

I would recommend anyone that is looking to own one to understand that any modern car will require regular maintenance and have its own issues. This one is not immune to this and will require frequent maintenance and repairs. I’ve worked with so many people these days whom put off servicing and the result is minor problems become major issues, and the car build quality is blamed rather than owner neglect. Best example is blowing up a motor due to no oil. If you drive like a manic, or neglect your servicing things break or wear out faster.

Would I recommend this car, yes. It has been an excellent car and has continuously put a smile on my face when I get the opportunity to take it out. But it has issues like any other car. The transmission being the most obvious one.

Some great things about the 2016 model is it handles well either long distance or around town, very economical with a full tank costing only 30-40$, comfortable drive with a little kick in it and smooth off the mark.

water through the left side into the boot and tyre well. Took the car into ford twice and they couldn't find the issue. Third time (lucky??) It started to leak again so I sold the car (it was out of warranty by this point). The leak was under the weather strips between the metal joints in the roof. Poor build quality allowing water through the roof of a brand new car. Silicone temporarily fixed the issue. Will never buy another ford!

servicing, now blaming a rear main engine seal for the transmission problem. The seals actually leak in the transmission & is world wide knowledge that causes the transmission failure. Not now sure what to do, except to pay for repairs at our cost. No more Fords for us after owning 6 over our driving life. Bad service, poor customer respect, a totally unwholesome experience. The powershift saga is well documented on many platforms of the internet. Unbelievable treatment in this day & age. Ford America have a class action against them, Ford Australia was fined $10 million for bad treatment of customers. This is just a town car that also does occasional country runs, mainly by me & very few times by my husband.

my mum likes the car but it has its faults – my mum has one and for the most part, it has been a great car. she purchased it last year for under 3000 with just over 160k on the dash and it was trouble free motoring for a while but then one day we were driving and i looked at the gauges and the speedo dropped to zero then back to normal and it didn't happen again until one day i got a call… Read more

from my frantic mum saying the speedo stopped working then moments later it just stopped and she didnt know what to do so i told her to try turn it on again so she did but the speedo didnt work until about 5 minutes of driving later. this went on for a little while and the speedo wouldnt always stay not working after turning off and on again. we ended up getting it put on a friends obdii reader which showed a speed sensor issue so we tried getting the sensor and after alot of searching and my mum learning to turn the car off and on again while still driving we found the 100 sensor but after having it replaced my mum immediatly moved from the gold coast to melbourne and she didnt even get halfway before it stopped working again and now the speedo never works at all and my mum simply doesnt have the money to keep replacing the sensor every hundred or so kms so she has just mastered to get it off and on again in a matter of seconds and she uses waze to tell how fast shes going. she is not keeping the car because after the trouble we went through with the speed sensor and a run in with a cow she has decided she needs a 4wd. this car was great but it has too many little electrical faults like the sensor and the ciggarette lighter refuses to work despite fuses being changed and the aux input droppes in and out depending on what gear your in. but it was excellent on fuel despite being driven up a mountain daily and the handling and acceleration was not what you expect in a 1.6

ECOnetic great commuter – had econetic for 7 years from near new. used for commuting long ks. never skipped a beat. always serviced with ford also without issue. over 130,000 ks from original tyres, brakes & clutch. changed all at once, clutch still had a heap on it, brakes still maybe 20,000. fuel economy is as quoted. regularly does better than 3.8l/100k. cheapest car… Read more

ever! also good fun to drive, not a lot of power but good handling. nothing impressive with body or interior quality. panel fit is everywhere. comfort is bog standard, but thats what its designed for! stereo and bluetooth is good. AC struggles in high summer. heater takes ages to get warm. i've also been surprised with what i can fit in the back

Great Car – Great to drive, park, fast, good visibility, good size boot. I love this car it's quite sedate before you hit 80klms, but it goes from 80 to 120 in no time a no effort. Have to be mindful of the speed as very easy on the open road to be breaking the speed limit in a quick time. Handles well on corners. In 8 years the car has had one battery replaced, nothing else and no other issues.  Show details

Ok except the transmission – Very disappointed in this car, to the point that we hardly ever drive it in case it breaks down. Constant clutch and gear problems - sounds like a bag of nuts and bolts loose in a bag. it's been back to the dealer constantly who reset programs and replace clutch. Terrible car.  Show details

Awesome car!! Absolutely loving it!! – I have had this car for about a month now. With 140xxx on the clock, she still drives like new! Previously I had owned a 2006 Kia Rio and my Ford is so much better. I have had no transmission issues (which is claimed to be a massive problem in these cars). Good fuel consumption. The engine can get a bit noisy but that’s barely a problem. There… Read more

is also surprisingly a good amount of leg room, I can fit 4 people in this car (squishy of course because it’s a hatchback).

I as of yet have no regrets!!

Really Good Value for Money! Practical & Fun car! – Really fun to drive, perfect for city driving and very economical. Travel back and forth work 25 kms through the M2 every day a full tank will last 2 working weeks. Owned 2 of these cars, the first one I owned purchased in 2015 (Silver - 2 door hatch) had an overheating issue, seemed to have sorted after flushing the cooling system, didn't cost… Read more

that much to do, just a couple of litres of anti rust coolant. Also needed to replace the power window mechanism and spent around $200 for that.

After getting hit from behind late last year (November 2017), the insurance company had me write it off, and I purchased the same make and model, only difference it was in ink blue. Already had about 151,000 kms on the odometer. But it seemed to be properly maintained by an accredited NRMA shop, so i bought it with confidence.

So far just your regular service, and had to do an A/C re-gas. The power steering is making a bit of noise now, will be undergoing a service very soon, so hopefully that gets sorted.

155,000 kms on the clock at the moment.

p.s. this delivers better power and handles better and has better A/C than the younger Hyundai Getz 1.6

Doing OK so far 2006 model 126,000km – Mine is a 2006 manual 3 door hatch. Bought it at 17000km and is now 126,000km. Prior to 100k the engine and all electronics all cut out twice on the highway. Had to replace an electronics component (over $300) which apparently is a common repair. No more issues. Had a major service at 100k and replaced brakes at 115k. Fan belt stripped at around… Read more

the same mileage and had to be replaced. No other issues with the car other than right from when i first owned it, getting it into reverse gear often results in grinding of the gears and takes several goes to get it into reverse gear. Alos in the last 6 months the car has become very noisy on the road which is enough for me consider trading it in. Otherwise it has not been a bad car and may hold on to it for a while longer.

FORD Shudders – I purchased the car 2 years ago and it has flaws in it's transmission. It has been repaired 3 times in 2 years, Ford have extended the warranty because of the issue. Initially they were reluctant to fix but had far too much pressure. Mechanics at Ford said "it drives like this because 3-4 people are driving the car and have different driving… Read more

styles".... Really, it's a car. It's sluggish, shudders and adolescents in the house cannot drive it to Uni, as they feel unsafe with it's performance.

Good small car, But! – The ford fiesta is certainly a wonderful small car! The pro's involves great handling, good mileage, great speakers and its good looks. The biggest drawback of the car is the transmission. The car shudders and struggles a lot on low gear(1-2). Other than that it works great! Fun to drive!  Show details
