Be VERY VERY wary of this product. I have been having issues with my hot water system for 2 weeks. I have called their service department several times and each time was promised some one would be here shortly. 2 weeks still nothing. They are happy to take your money but after sales service they really don’t want to know about. Be very way Show details
Worth the cost – Works a treat. My son turned it off when the gas ducted heating blew up next to it, forgot to turn it back on. It was 3 days later, with 3 adult males, before the hot water ran out! Back to normal in 3 hours.

I cannot really overstate just how poorly this product has performed since we purchased it around 3 years ago. Here in S.E Queensland, throughout most of the year when its above 30deg it works ok. Not that you really need much hot water during those 6 months of the year. Around mid may every single year. Every morning I hear "There is no hot water… Read more
again". Every night "There is no hot water again" From my wife and two young kids.
For all the emails and phone calls I have made to try and rectify the problem. The only attempt to do so was to send a plumber out to reset some thermostatic something or rather in the software which did nothing at all.
The only way I have to ensure there is any hot water, is to go out twice a day and make sure it is forced into the on position in either hybrid or hybrid 1 mode.
The 15 year old Saxon this unit replaced probably didnt even get looked at twice in 15 years. Yet here I am baby sitting this POS appliance twice every single day to ensure the missus and kids can have a hot shower when they want one.
All these pics are after the system has run all day long consuming between 6-10kw/h. Considering the old system used around 9kwh per day and we were told this new system would be around 2.5kwh.....
The company that did the installation did a stellar job I might add, Could not fault their workmanship and they tried to assist as much as they could when we started having issues. But Im not going to continue wasting their time trying to rectify an issue with the product itself. The only real option we have going forward is to move to an IStore or go back to a traditional HWS.

Great product, will recommend to anyone who's looking for a heat pump! – Super easy to configure through touchscreen panel, up to 3x time-slots for choosing which periods of the day to run. Fairly quiet heat pump. Wifi connectivity to home internet, able to use smartphone app anywhere in the world to check operation and change settings. It's been running for three months without any issues, we're four people with two showers in our home. Great product, will recommend to anyone who's looking for a heat pump. Show details
Excellent product at a reasonable price – Our gas HWS broke down so it presented an opportunity to take more advantage of our already installed solar panels and battery. We did our homework - the Hydrotherm reviews were generally good, the price was competitive and noise levels were minimal. We asked Hydrotherm to recommend an installer in Adelaide and Adelaide Hills Hot Water did the… Read more
rest. Excellent and prompt service and, while still early days, can't fault the product. Plenty of hot water despite the fact that the system has been set to take advantage of daylight hours and off-peak tariffs.
Easy, quiet and just does what a HWS is supposed to do – Had one of these heat pumps installed by my local plumber. Hydrotherm were very easy to deal with and had it delivered to me. It runs for about 2-3 hours a day and uses about 1.2KW while running. It's programmed to run when the sun is shining so I get free hot water from my solar essentially. So happy I went with this and got my gas disconnected so I am completely off gas now! Show details
Fantastic – Very quite heaps cheaper to run than our old electric heater water always hot Show details
Hydrotherm Dynamic/X8 - Melbourne Heat Pumps – The guys from Melbourne Heat Pumps did a great job of installing the new HWS. They were polite, professional and did very neat work, and they took away the old HWS and cleaned up after themselves (same professionalism from the electricians who arrived earlier and fitted the new power outlet for the HWS). Communication was excellent, via SMS and… Read more
email. Back in the MHP office, Gavin was very helpful with my queries.
The unit operates on a timer when it needs to within the hours between 10am - 5pm, taking advantage of our solar PV. Although the unit is reasonably quiet, we did hear it overnight on its initial heating cycle, prior to the timer cycle commencing. Now that it only operates during daylight hours, noise is unlikely to be an issue... it doesn't seem to be much louder than the outside unit of a reverse cycle split system airconditioner.
The unit is working well and producing plenty of hot water, even on these cold winter days. With heat pump technology and Solar PV, we're looking forward to overall reduced energy bills now that the gas HWS is gone!

Energy saving and great service – We have been using our Hydrotherm Dynamic/X8 for just over a month. We are extremely happy with the unit. It was easy to program to ensure the heating times were set to operate when our solar system was generating power and/or when the electricity tariff are low. The supply of hot water has been very good including when our grandkids stayed over… Read more
and had their normal “short” showers or bath. The unit noise level is low – important as the unit is located where it could potentially be heard by our neighbours. The reasons we choose the Hydrotherm Dynamic/X8 over others included cost, potential energy saving, warranty, recommendation by our local energy saving advisor YESS, rebates available for installing the more efficient unit (we replaced a gas unit) and the low noise when operating. We were also very satisfied with the help provided by the dealer AQUATECH SOLAR TECHNOLOGIES in identifying local plumbers who could install the unit. We would recommend the Hydrotherm Dynamic/X8 and our local plumber Hayden Martinello (Adelaide West Plumbing and Gas) to anyone looking to replace their hot water service.
Operation and warranty customer support good, but wifi connectivity requires an up-to-date router – Heats water well, and retains heat relatively well for a family of four even when switched off overnight. However, I have noticed a strange streak of pure cold water running for about 5 seconds right in the middle of each evening shower, which always makes me jump. Somewhat noisy, but not excessively so. Warranty period of 6 years parts and… Read more
labour is good.
Customer Warranty Support Rep is friendly and accommodating.
Only major downside is that the Wifi is next to useless if you have got an old home router. You need a router that is up-to-date . The water heater wifi only operates on short-range 2.4GHz, which considering that the unit is situated outside and behind an exterior wall means that your connection to the unit via the phone app to your router depends heavily on the quality of your router.
The phone app itself is quite rudimentary, but sufficient for viewing current water temperature and setting basic timer functions.
Recent convert from 20+ old gas water heater – Recently replaced 20+ old Dux gas water heater that was in good working order. Following were my primary reasons of the investment: 1) reduce gas bill 2) feature to easily check & control the water temperature 3) make the best use of my solar energy There were many heat pump brands & models available, where the price is ranging from zero with… Read more · 2
government rebate (such as 'Ecogenica') up to 4000-5000 out of pocket. (such as 'Reclaim' at the top)
I was tempted to go with either Ecogenica (290F) or similar model of Emerald at first but due to the lack of user reviews available, removed them from my choice and short-listed to the following three based on the popularity & good user reviews: 1. EvoHeat EVO270 2. Hydrotherm Dynamic/X8 3. Aquatech iStore270
Among above three, EvoHeat seems to be the most popular on the market but I decided to go with Hydrotherm, simply because Hydrotherm x8 was A$1K+ cheaper than the EvoHeat.
From the user reviews, I observed many users had their heat pumps installed by Same Day Hot Water service at the cheapest price than many other installers. So I contacted them and they offered me very competitive deal and the installation service was very swift and professional. (highly recommend)
It's a bit too early to tell about the quality of the product yet but I am quite happy with my choice.
================================ Comments after 10 days since the installation: - i can monitor/remote control the unit from outside home via internet - noise can be heard only when heating (if you are outside), which doesn't bother me and the noise is similar (or slightly louder) to any split air conditioner external compressor unit. - heating speed takes longer compared to gas (however there are other modes that you can enable to speed things up, which will take more energy)

Much cheaper than gas, controllable, heat pump hot water system – We installed this with a solar panel system last April. It's saved us a heap in gas, from the old gas system, even in winter with less solar energy production. In spring, the hot water is almost free, turning it off overnight, and back on when we have solar power. The app can turn the system on our off remotely if we have phone internet access, … Read more
knowing how much hot water we have left and the tank temperature. Our X8 system has never run out of hot water for 4 adults. As per the installation instructions, install it outside away from bedroom windows. It's near our kitchen window, and it's only a little audible when running.

No issues. Provides all the hot water we need – Replaced a existing unit from the same manufacturer. The previous one ran perfectly for 10-11 years, and thus purchased from the same manufacturer again. This one is quieter in operation. So far, it's operated without any issues with plenty of hot water. Show details
Happy customer – Very quickly recovers from high usage. We've never run out of hot water and the interface is easy to use so that we can set it to run during hours of peak solar. Show details

heat pump ok but smart timer app keeps failing, no help – The heat pump itself is good, does what it needs to be, relatively quiet. The wifi connectivity and the smart app thing however doesnt work for us, which means we lose a lot of efficiency for our solar. Most dissapointing is that the company couldnt help with any troubleshooting, and then hasnt replied to anything in the last month. I battled the… Read more
app for a month, but couldnt get the timers to be reliable. I dont think they know how the wifi connection works, as it is a third party app, and the third party app cant help coz that is not what they do. So i would recommend if you want any smart timer functions or a company that is concerned with their customers, then look elsewhere
Crap customer service – I bought this in 2016, it has been leaking notes for 3-4 months I have contacted the company several times and can’t get any help The system grays well but is leaking Show details
Don’t last – I had the unit installed originally 2015. The first one blew after three years so had to be replaced under warranty. The replacement unit was manufactured in 2017. It is now no longer working and needs to be replaced. I will never purchase another one as in my experience they do not last for the cost. Show details

Great for the price. $$ savings long term – love the Hydrotherm x8 HP HWS. Fan sound is definetly noticable, but its something im sure all HP HWS have in common. one plus for me was having a smart HP HWS was using the app for schedules, but this ended up being my slight negative after trying to implement it. i emailed info@hydrothermhotwatersystems.com.au on 26/03/24 with questions, and… Read more
never heard back.
i have since stopped the app & set a timer on the HWS its self. i do wish the app was more stable and could be relied apon but i feel this is not the case.
New heat pump installation – The whole process was effortless, well explained, polite and easy to deal with. What was arranged was done, pricing was good, follow up excellent, company and product can not be faulted Show details
So Far So Good – Neat unit. Can set time for when it heats up (we have solar panels). Has an app you can interact with as well. Reasonably priced and does what you want it to do. Just a matter of longevity and aftermarket service now. Show details
Would highly recommend – Only got it installed the other day and it has done everything that the brilliant plumber Johnny said it would do. It has the timer set to operate during sunshine hours so it costs me nothing due to solar. Show details

Very happy with the product – It's actually quieter then I thought very efficient we are a family of 5 and on a timer only runs for 4/5 hours. In the morning. Show details
Great unit at affordable price – Great hot water unit. Despite a faulty pressure relief valve the unit has been working well. Timer option is great to work in with solar. Unit is a little noisy on heating as you would expect but not so loud that it disturbs anyone. Show details
So Far So Good. Everyone should have one – Has worked very well in the first three weeks for a 2-3 person household. The time scheduling is great to make use of the rooftop solar. The WiFi connection has been a problem through a brick wall with the Tuya app but have used another app that was easier to connect that gives basic information on how the water temperature is going so can adjust… Read more
the time schedule to minimise run time before sunlight. The daily bill is down as it replaced a very old (15+ years) heat pump system that had served us well but had been fading and running almost full time over the past few months. Bang for buck looks very good for now.
Great value heat pump – We gradually switched all our house appliances to electric after we got our solar panels and home battery installed. Our instantaneous gas water heater was our last gas appliance to be replaced. I did a lot of research and it came down to the iStore and this - both being well reviewed but not top tier expensive. What eventually tipped it in the… Read more
X8's favour was the wifi integration with the Tuya app and subsequently Home Assistant.
After it was installed, we noted the menu was a little different from what is depicted in the user manua. I emailed Hydrotherm and Roberto advised we had the latest Gen 6 version with the updated interface and I eventually got the water heater connected to the Tuya app.
Is it noisy? Not as quiet as an heating element water tank and about on par with our split air conditioner. But its on the outside of the house and not near neighbours windows so it doesn't bother us.
Happy with installation and supply – Happy with our heat pump Dynamic/X8. Plenty of hot water even early in morning before it begins to heat. It is noisier than 42 db but this lasts about an hour. So far no other issues. Show details
Great hws with wifi capabilities – Able to tweak on and off times during off peak and solar usage. However does take a while to heat the tank to 60-65 degrees. Have a family of 4 with showers 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening.
I wish I could have upgraded earlier! – After replacing my gas hot water system and installing the Hydrotherm Dynamic X8 and feeding it with solar electricity I am hardly paying for any hot water. I am able to set all its functions through the easy to install app (Tuya) and continually monitor the temperature. I have it set to heat about an hour before the morning demand and heat pump… Read more
with the solar heating does the rest to keep the temperature maintained throughout the day with little to no cost.
Great system, very happy – Smooth change over, fits perfectly in its spot and provides ample hot water for us. Makes some noise but this is not excessive and not a problem where we have it. It's been in for a month and so far, very happy with it. Show details
