Have this car for 4 years and it's been doing great. I lifted the car and chucked some good ATs and wend through beaches mud and gravel without problems, so long it was enough ground clearance. I have a fridge instead of rhr seat, dcdc. Harger awning and basket on top for more luggage space when travelling Fuel consumption in general with all… Read more
that extras is at 8.5 to 9 L per 100km... pretty good for a little 2L motor with really small camshafts... so it does like rpm... no low end power at all.
Cons.. is old and burning a bit of oil, possible valve stem seals... but not a big issue... check oil regularly and put 10w40 in it with a can of luquimoly seal conditioner once in 2 years. Does reduce oil consumption. Great little car, still driving it.
It tows a tear drop trailer, 700kg pretty good, drove even through hills in Sydney.
Looks like your nannas car but pretty good – You wont be looking cool on a saturday night, and the blind spots due to the silly A pillars need to be taken into account, but it is really a great little car. I have one as a second run around. It gets driven hard, dirt roads, country roads and into town. Suspension takes it all not problem, good 4 wheel disc brakes. AWD and traction systems… Read more
are excellent, responsive and safe. Fuel consumption is not fantastic but acceptable, trade off from AWD and heavier build.
Cvt auto does a good job keeping the power on, I suspect a manual would not be as spirited to drive as the cvt works hard to keep the revs in exactly the right spot, trade off is that it does not like long climbs and starts to get hot and whine.
Build quality is very good and built like a tank. Very safe little car with 5 star safety rating in Australia and Europe, not alot of room in the boot but the passengers get plenty, feels like a much bigger vehicle. Very safe vehicle for a young person starting out or as a second car
Love this car – Fell in love immediately, reliable car, small, cruise, plenty of space to move thing's. Love this car would recommend it without thinking twice. Great pick up speed.try it for yourself! Show details
real seen – it is a good, reliable & practical car for 2 people with max 1 kid. After 175,000km change oil every 6000km if can, you will be able to use the car for a long time. very bad fuel eco for a 2l engine. Show details
Live my comfortable little car – Excellent to drive. Comfortable roomy seats. Great leg space. Excellent to drive long distances. Great on fuel consumption. SMART looking car. Easy to drive and park. Very roomy boot. Great leg room in back seat and also very comfortable. Great radio and CD player with excellent speakers. No problems at all with my 6years old car now at 185,898kmson the clock. It was a great price and has had no problems. Show details
Has been a great car – Hi, I have the 2007 all wheel drive purchased new, have 175,000 Klm on the clock, have been looking to upgrade just because of the age but has not missed a beat can not find a comparable car for reasonable price so have decided to drive until it dies, then going to buy another secondhand. Car handles dirt roads great, 30klm of dirt every day no… Read more
rattles or any mtce yet. Love it, hope I don't jinx it. Had one problem at about 100k had to replace 5th gear.
New engine at 95000 – Took car for service 95000, was due at 90000 but time slipped away. Have now been told it needs a new engine because a bearing has gone due to low oil. I always check my oil and water. Never been low and never had the warning light on. Still under 5 year 13000km warranty and Suzuki won't fix it. Show details
Good solid small hatch – Hi, mine is a 2007 auto model 4x4 fully optioned. Sunroof, cruise plus all other standard items, fog lights etc. Absolutely bullet proof in typical Suzuki manner. Have done 225,000 k's so far and trouble free. Still on original front pads and rotors (due to change in next 5,000 k's). Only thing had to do is an aftermarket transmission filter.… Read more
Quarter of price of Suzuki as original is an internal. Average around 8.2L per 100 fuel. Average daily run is a 220k round trip home-work. Combination country city, 30 k's out of Geelong to Port Melbourne and back Monday to Friday. Second Suzi, had an XL7 which I did 240,000 in, still miss it and seriously looking to get another one if I can find a good one with reasonable k's. So far so good, 2 great reliable Suzi's. Will go Suzuki again.
Loved the car, was glad to get rid of it – Loved the car. Had original 2007 AWD version. Great traction and handling, nice manual gearbox. No boot space but I knew this :) Required an entire engine at 120,000km!! So obviously with a quoted fitted cost of $10k roughly we traded it in a car without known engine problems. Seriously, Google SX4 engine failure. Very common. Suzuki refused to… Read more
help saying outside warranty maintenance is owners responsibility.
I have other Japanese brand cars in the family with 350,000km+ on original engines gearboxes and head gaskets.
So. I liked the car, glad to be rid of it. Had the ASX existed back then I'd have not got the SX4.
Great car, but… – Bought a 2012 model this 1 year ago. Mine is a stock standard model, 2.0ltr 6 speed manual. Fantastic car around town, easy to park, handles the highway AND Victorian country roads very well. Good upright seating position, powerful and excellent fuel economy. The front pillars on these cars are a shocker and create a terrible blind spot on both sides, especially at roundabouts. My family (3 drivers) have found that you MUST physically move your head in order to make sure that there is no car being hidden. We’ve found that the more upright you sit the worse it is.
Please test drive at a roundabout before buying.
Our Experience as Family Car – We bought this car a month after released as everyday family car. Yes we still have this in our garage. We have now clocked it at 95K+ kms and still going strong with no issues at all. Its good for young family of 4 no complaints fitting car seats. Getting average about 530+kms in one tank - best tested achieved 550kms in town with 2 litres (of… Read more · 1
45L tank) to spare. We have driven this over long distances in full loading. So far we have crossed Nullarbor, great ocean road, Southern WA, and Coastal beaches. It just goes pretty much where wanted to and didn't disappoint. All good experiences so far we'll definitely keeping this for more years to come.
Thank you Suzuki !!! Very reliable - as any Suzuki built car, excellent car around town, very compact yet with decent storage space, agile on road, good engine size. 5 spd manual, bearable engine noise in highway driving, A/c takes time to cool the cabin
87000km, regularly serviced and told it needs a new motor??? – It has been fantastic until it started missing occasionally so took to a dealer to isolate the problem and was returned to me with a massive knock in engine and told it was because of low oil level. Oil light has never come on??? 1yr out of warranty. There was no knocking sound when I took it in??? Any advice would be helpful. Needs a new motor at 87000km??? Show details

Great car that has handled everything thrown at it – Owned the car since new (2008 model). Currently sitting on 120000kms and 1/3 of those kms has been rough going. I have installed 4WD A/T Tyres and have taken in on beaches and 4WD tracks and it hasn't missed a beat. It may not be super high or have good articulation but it does the job on some decent tracks, just have to take it slow and chose… Read more
the easier route.
On the road it handled great before the A/T Tyres, very sporty hatch feel. With A/T tyres it is average but the payoff is worth it offroad as the piece of mind of not cutting the tyre on some sharp rocks is great.
Problems we have had is the keyless entry system, which seems to be phased out due to problems, and the water pump going at a bit over 100000kms. Pump was then replaced and the pump seal is now failing.
Also have had a check engine light due to Cat converter, but Suzuki ran me round till the warranty finished.
Excellent car, troubled with some problems but the positives outweigh the negatives.
Now thinking of moving on up to a Grand Vitara. AWD system did the job for moderate 4WD trails and made for alot of fun. Car handles great and was a good for long trips. Water pump, Cat converter & keyless entry were problems.

2008 SX4 – Compared to what was on offer when I bought this car in 2008, I feel this was the best value. I took it for a test drive and bought it immediately. I purchased a black base auto. The car is very quiet and smooth on the road. Lot's of headroom and it fits 4 people. It's styling is sleek and quite attractive. Easy to get in and out. All controls… Read more
are well placed. The braking and handling are excellent.
I have had it over 4 years now and it still looks good, no visible deterioration.
Some things I don't like are the window front pillars. Seems to be a little thirsty on the fuel. The paint will mark and stain quite easy. Foot pedals seem to be a little close to each other. Auto transmission shifter a bit awkward to use when changing gears.
Overall it was a good decision to purchase this vehicle and I have no regrets.
Paint, fuel economy, foot pedals and shifter.
Safe car – I decided on the 2009 SX4 because it was given a 6 star safety rating and with a child wanting to learn to drive next year I thought it would make me feel happier having a safer car with 6 airbags, and how you have the option of 2, 4 wheel drive I personally leave it on auto as all the wheels kick in when needed to help keep control. personally like the fact that its higher than the other cars so its easier to get in and out of, the seats are comfortable. Comfort, great boot size considering it's a small car Could be better with fuel efficiency. It seems to prefer the 98 fuel so it's a bit dearer
4 year car – Bought 2007 SX4 S with sports pack. First rego 2008. Loved it until the accelerator started getting jammed on and increasing in speed 4 years later. Suzuki and dealer don't want to know about it. Service manager from dealership admitted there was a large amount of SX4's from 2007-2010 with this problem in the USA but not so many in Australia. l only have 35,000 km on this potential killer machine. Nice to drive. Sticky accelerator electronics. Show details

Great fuel economy long distance, zippy – I have the 4WD model and I've done about 3000km, the majority on long distance trips - only on bitumen, no off road driving yet. It is quite smooth and easy to drive. I was looking for a 4WD and this was the only one that was small and therefore cheaper than your Subaru, Honda CRV etc. 4WDs. I average 7.9-8.2 L/100km on the longer trips (lots of… Read more
twist and steep hills), and about 8.5 L/100km in the city.
My car came with free bluetooth (which is awesome) and I managed to get free fog lights put it in. I also got 5 years warranty.
All up it is the car that I was after. Decent fuel economy, comfortable, a little different to your Corolla Doesn't have USB input - AUX, bluetooth and CD
Fun,strong, reliable, pratical – I've owned mine for 2 years and done 48000km. I do light delivery so removed the back seat for a flat floor. I can't think of a harder test for a vehicle than delivery work and it's passed with flying colours. I like that I don't have to worry about scraping under the front of the car when going through driveways, or jumping kerbs. It's a small… Read more · 3
big car or a big small car and at 1275kg is the lightest 4X4 available (except the Jimney Sierra), amazingly it's the same weight as a Corolla. It's great for parking and u turns, being quite short. Mine is the std 4x4 with 4sp auto and I was amazed at all the extras, even though it's the base model. The 8 speaker stereo is brilliant and the auto is perfect, knows the right gear and is well proven. It's very quick off at the lights even when loaded to the ceiling with mags (heavy). It was cheap to buy and is cheap for servicing and spares. I changed to BF Goodrich 215/60/16 tyres when they needed replacing, much better than the originals. Highly recommended to anyone who needs this size vehicle. Well made and finished, fun, reliable, cheap, sturdy (hard to scratch), great ground clearance No telescopic steering
Excellent – I purchased my Suzuki SX4 as we have a long (600m), steep, rough gravel drive which is sometimes unclimbable in any 2WD. In Auto 4WD mode, the vehicle performed well beyond my expectations and handled the track effortlessly when we had very heavy rain over several days just after the drive was newly graded down to very slippery clay. On road, it's… Read more
very comfortable and pleasant to drive although all round visibility could be better - OK though once you become accustomed to using the mirrors properly - they show everything you need to see and are very simple to adjust. Excellent air conditioning and the radio/CD controls on the steering wheel are very handy.
At a price that is several thousand $$ lower than every other modern 4WD SUV, the SX4 is unbeatable value. I love it! Very versatile with 2WD and 4WD modes. Surprisingly roomy and comfortable with low road noise. Excellent A/C. All round visibility could be better.
Excellent – We bought this as a replacement for our much cherished 3 door Vitara. It has virtually the same engine but is zippier despite the higher gearing. It coped with the Fraser Island sand roads with some awesome ruts but has yet to be tested in mud or the boneshaking Queensland roads paved with small boulders. For camping, I found it simple (though not… Read more · 1
a task I would like to do every day) to remove the rear seats and install a cargo barrier from a Sierra. This significantly increases the storage capacity. A second battery for the car fridge would not fit under the bonnet so had to go in the rear seat foot well (Fortuitously, it also provides a step up for my grand daughter to get into the baby seat). We also tow a tiny box trailer when camping and I mount a real spare wheel on that to augment the frail space saver spare supplied with the car. We have completed over 20,000km so far without any mishap. For some peculiar reason the petrol consumption increased steadily over the first 15,000km to about 10litres/100km irrespective of driving conditions but since has declined to a satisfactory 8.3l/100km. I like the readout for fuel consumption and ambient temperature but still get tricked by the keyless entry which from time to time doesn't do what I expect. Good price for a 4WD soft roader. Suzuki reliability (I have had 3 others). A good blend of the features I need as an occasional grey nomad and as transport for a family with three generations under one roof. Looks a little weird; inflated prices for Suzuki accessories; restricted vision because of windscreen pillars.
Good – Great fun car to drive, I cover a lot of Km's per year and thoroughly enjoy basting around in the car. Admittedly not the quickest thing in the world (especially in Auto), but the manual can be worked well. AWD works very well on road and on tracks. Great fun car. Reliable and comfortable, strong. As has been said the A pillar is a bit on the large side. Show details
Excellent – I love this car. I took one for a test after trying to choose a car for about 6 months and bought it on the spot. I took the base auto with towbar, cruise control and bluetooth. The car is very quiet, which is my main priority. It's small but looks big on the outside. There's heaps of headroom inside and plenty of space for 4 people. A couple… Read more
of disappointments include the fuel use being higher than I expected for a small car. Also the pillar at the front takes some getting used to.
Other than that this is a winner. Quiet, easy to drive, 4wd at a pinch Average on fuel

Great fun! – Had this for about a year now and it is a total hoot! We live in a hilly area and despite this we average long term around 8.2L per 100km. The handling is fantastic and overall it appears very well made. It was recommended to us by our long term mechanic who also has one - he likes the way it is built, and how easy it is to pull apart and put back… Read more

We were initially concerned about the size, coming down from a Commodore, but really it has not been an issue. We have 4 teenage kids and 3 fit across the back for short trips without grumbles.
It's just a great little car! Cheap, great to drive
Excellent – Purchased new in 2010. Had not one problem with car. Suzuki have done a fantastic job on the SX4. Interior is roomy and comfortable. Performance is great ,economy is good, auto cvt fantastic. Exterior design is very sporty. Love our car!!!!! Aerodynamics, pricing, performance and looks Front sun visors need to be beefed up, a little flimsy Show details

Excellent – I bought this as a replacement for my Suzuki Swift which I loved but needed a bigger car. The car is fantastic, handles very well, has great pickup and is easy to handle around town. There is plenty of interior space and accommodates the kids car seats without a problem while still allowing leg room in the front passenger seat. The only complaint… Read more
I have with it is the windscreen pillar, it is large and does give you quite a large blindspot especially at roundabouts, but over all I have no other complaints about the car so there is not much more you could ask for. Just about everything Accessories expensive, blindspot on windscreen pillar
Excellent – This is my initial opinion based on test driving both the manual and auto models, so cant comment on long term use (yet!). Sports model is 1.6 L and give better performance. Nice exterior styling, very roomy interior - good for 4 people at least. Leather steering wheel. All the nice extras included such as auto mirrors, stereo controls on steering… Read more
wheel, external thermostat, central cup holders, mp3 player. Manual 1.5 L is zippy, auto with aircon less so. Looks like a quality build. Solid fit in drivers seat. Could use bluetooth. Underpowered auto version, especially on big hills with air conditioning running.
