After 8 years I thought I would post a review. The Webber family Q is still going strong. It is under cover and has the Webber patio plastic cover over it when not in use. The Webber gets used on average 2 times a month, for flavour it is not as good as a charcoal bbq but for a gas bbq it is has been great. Show details ·  1

Purchased just before Christmas for the family get together. Cooked my first Brisket, 7 hours and 3 hours rest time wrapped in towel and in an esky. Family loved it. spend the money and now can't believe I waited so long to update from my old flat plate BBQ. It's easy to clean, assembly was simple if you can follow the instructions. Thoroughly recommend, I've told both my sons to invest in one.

Brought the extra full plate for $189 . There is no drain hole at all . It’s not a good design at all. I had the the other family Weber for 20 years with two hot plates but they drained. The lid is so light. Hope it last like the Old one. Show details

The Rolls Royce of BBQ’S – After purchasing and using this BBQ, the first thing you will do is kick yourself for not buying one earlier like me. This is an outstanding BBQ and the best outdoor cooking investment you’ll ever make. I highly recommend you do your research and watch all the YouTube videos and read up on how to best use this bbq. of cooking with the lid down and preheating the BBQ for 10 minutes prior to using it. After using it for the first few times, you will know how long each meat type, will take to cook. The meat thermometer purchased separately is handy.

We’ve used it for all types of meat cuts without an issue, including a large leg of lamb roast using the roast accessories. Remember to clean your BBQ after the 4-5th use, to ensure the performance of your Weber. Without hesitation we highly recommend the Weber Family Q 3200. It’s easier to use, practical and it’s built to last. Read the book and watch the clips.

Can't beat it! – Simplicity at its best. Easy to put together and fool proof for anyone straight from the box. Quickly heats. Cooks food to perfection and so evenly. Bbq is easy to clean and is hassle free. Awkward to move around unless your great with a shuffle to avoid stabbing your toes. Looks the part too, very sleak. Worth every cent to save that stove top from all the fat and oil splatter. Show details ·  1

Works well but suffers from average build quality After owning this Weber Family Q Premium for just over a year I thought I’d share a balanced review based on real use — what it does great and where it falls short. What I like - Cooking performance: Cooks brilliantly. Steaks get a great sear and roasts, chicken and veggies cook evenly. The… Read more

extra middle burner gives better searing and more consistent heat across the plate than the older single- or two‑burner Qs. - Fuel efficiency: Very economical on gas — I use far less LPG than I did with our old 4‑burner style grill. - Portability: Lightweight and easy to move around the patio or take to friends’ places. Handy if you don’t want a permanent, heavy barbecue. - Versatility: You can roast, sear and slow-cook reasonably well. There’s lots of community recipes and tips that make experimenting easy.

What I don’t like

- Build quality: Feels average for the price. Some parts (notably the side shelves and fittings) are flimsy and feel like cost‑cutting. I expected more robust hardware for a Premium model.

Verdict If you want an economical, portable BBQ that cooks very well — especially for steaks, roasts and everyday grilling — the Family Q Premium delivers. However, if you expect top-tier build quality for the price, or want minimal fuss cleaning and sturdier shelves, you may feel a little let down. I’d recommend it for the cooking performance and fuel savings, but factor in extra for accessories and routine maintenance to get the best long‑term experience.

Not a true improvement on the old Weber Q in my opinion this seems to be a backwards step but for the extra burner – Well it’s great that Weber have added the middle burner for extra heat (our Weber baby Q in our caravan doesn’t have this sadly) it makes a big difference when cooking something that requires searing. The over all idea is great. But! And it’s a big But! The side shelves are shockingly flimsy can’t take any amount of weight on them and fall of… Read more

continuously when packing up or moving the bbq around. And no steel for magnetic bbq lights sit on! What is the go with this? A big over sight on Weber’s behalf here. Cooking on the family Weber Q still takes some getting used to, and it is better for cooking on than previous units. Although the previous units seemed to be a more robust cooker. Would l buy one of the Weber Family Q’s again? No. Not even as a gift they are so annoyingly cheaply built. So that’s an “F” for the “Q” in my book. As you can tell buy the photos added we use our Weber quite a bit and l have held off on this review only because l wanted to be acclimatised to using it before posting. Only seemed fair.

A great bbq - versatile, econimical and well supported – Pros: * Amazingly versatile. * Super cheap on gas. * Great community/recipe support. Great customer support Cons: * Heat output sometimes not quite enough when it's cold. * Everything needs to cook at the same temp. 3 and a half years ago we bought a Weber Family Q. We looked at similar alternative size/style (LPG kettle style), but decided to… Read more

go with the Family Q (premium) based on the build quality of Q against others and Weber's reputation for after sales support, even though it was a bit more expensive.

I'll come back to build quality and support later. Having lived with it for a while now, the two things that really impress me about this BBQ, versus others I've owned, is how much stuff it can do, and how little gas it uses.

I'll start with the gas. We've owned this for getting onto four years. We use it a lot - in summer 2-3 times a week pretty easily, and in winter normally 1-2 times per week. Mostly standard grilling (burgers, grilled chicken, sausages, corn etc), but also fairly regularly for slow cooks (pulled pork, brisket etc) and occasionally roasts. Just the other day I started what I think was my 5th 8.5kg cylinder (it might even have been my forth). You don't use much gas because it has modest burners, and food cooks fast due to convection.

This is also the one and only minor Achilles' heel - the burners are modest, so in unusual conditions (trying to roast pork outside on a chilly, windy, winter night in Canberra) you can find yourself a bit short of "oomph". For grilling the Q gets around this by preheating, which works very well, but if you are trying to grill a few separate dishes one after another you may find yourself waiting a little longer between each than you ideally want - but - it's only an issue rarely, and for the gas you save through smaller burners, is definitely a good tradeoff.

Onto the different types of food - the family Q will tackle all your grilling (burgers, chicken, snags etc), even for say 10 adults (and more with batches) - no probs. It can tackle roasts (although I find you can't quite squeeze enough roast veggies in) very well, and we've gotten the best pork crackling we have ever had off the Weber. Steak - buy yourself nice steak and cook it on the Q - it will be as good as anything you can buy (and better than most). Pork belly strips - yum. We don't really do seafood, but I'm sure it would go well. The other amazing thing - for the Family Q, with the middle burner only you can do low and slow for things like brisket and pork shoulder/pulled pork. Add a smoker tube and some pellets and you can deliver some pretty decent "low and slow" North American style BBQ.

The other day I did a tomahawk steak on the Weber - indirect until internal temp at 50 degrees (IIRC) before switching over to direct grill to finish it up.

The Q can handle indirect and direct cooking very well, although not really both at the same time. If you want to do it one way, and switch over to the other (like I describe above) buy a decent pair of heat resistant BBQ gloves so you can move the trivet and heat shield (used for indirect) on and off the BBQ without getting burned.

This leads to another Q strength that is also a weakness - no cold/cooler spots - good when you want everything cooked at the same temp, but if you need to cook stuff at different temps you will need to cook in batches. I find it is rarely a problem.

Part of what we have gotten out of our Q also comes down to the community support around them. Starting with the Weber forums/recipes and then building out from there - learning from others what they achieved with their Qs, tips on how to apply techniques, all combined with the Qs less intimidating setup and high tolerance for ham-fisted cooks. Just remember - use a timer and keep the lid down and it is hard to go too wrong. A meat thermometer helps too.

I see product review want me to say how hard to clean/how it performs in the wind/rain. We keep ours under the eaves of the house. It is somewhat sheltered from the wind. I understand others have problems with cross wind on the Q - never been an issue for us where it is setup. Cleaning is straight forward if you aren't a perfectionist. Pyro clean on the grill before you start and knock of the carbon with a grill brush. A couple of times a year I scrape out the base to stop fat fires and give grills a soak. Empty the fat trap when it is full.

On build quality and support - it's a sturdy unit, but, more importantly, it is well supported. A few weeks back we noticed some of the enamel coating on one of the grills started coming away and the iron bars within starting to rush. A quick photo and our serial number to Australian Weber support via their website and new grill plates were shipped out. Hard to ask for better support than that.

As a final testament to these BBQs - and noting we have no intention of selling ours - I know I could list it on Gumtree right now for 75% of what I paid for it, and have people knocking the door down to buy it, redback spiders and all. Punters know these BBQs are built to last.

That's our experience. It's an amazing little BBQ, it can do so much, it's not expensive, especially when you factor in running costs, and it's easy to live with.

Pretty but lacks power – Good BBQ, great design, easy to handle but for how well regarded it is, the heat is just ok. Don’t but – If I could give it no stars I would. What a poorly built piece of junk. Doesn’t get hot enough, gas burner won’t ignite. Hood is so flimsy that it doesn’t retain heat. The plastic side shelves are so poorly built if you put anything on them they fall down. Hard to turn on gas bottle as hose is not long enough to spin bottle around to front. Really disappointing another company trading off its good name from yesteryear and now producing rubbish. Show details

Weber Family Q – Changed from Weber kettle & Genesis to Family Q. Roasts well although kettle makes better crackle on pork. BBQ of meat is easy and heat controls easy to operate. grill on the other. Instead it arrived with 2 grills, bought the hotplate and was expensive.

Side tables very cheap and nasty, considering this was the top of the range.

Pizza option expensive and useless really.

Condensed smoke runs off the lid turning into fat that drips on the outside causing a mess.

Given the price of these things it could have had a better build quality and the accessories should be better priced.

Best Gas BBQ? – I purchased this along with the hotplate and roasting trivet about 18 months ago. Breakfasts and roasts are the main cooks for me and this excels at both. Make sure to follow the instructions and it basically becomes idiot proof which is a good job with me! Cleaning is easy and it cooks great steaks too. Highly recommended. My only small gripe is some of the frame is a bit flimsy with a few sharp edges I had to remove. Show details ·  1

The best meat I've ever cooked, but the grills started rusting within 24 months and are now really bad – Let me start by saying that the Weber Q I bought in 2013 has bought us so many excellent meals and we love it! So much so that I bought one for my parents. I also got the additional flat plate, book, cover, pizza stone, wire baking rack, mezzanine shelf for veges and utensils. I love this thing. the grills religiously and always kept it covered. The only heartache it's given me is that the grills started corroding withing a couple of years. Every time I'd go to cook I'd have to knock the flaking rust off and give it a good scrub. The cheap BBQ it replaced that was probably 15 years old didn't have the same issue. I'm considering my options now with my next purchase of a smoker/charcoal grill to sit along side the Q, I'm just worried that for the money I'll be spending, will I be better off going with a cheaper brand that I don't expect as much from? I just hope the new ones don't have the same issue with corrosion. The Weber community online is very strong and full of enthusiastic people willing to share knowledge and recipes which is really nice.

Overall, it's a great BBQ! I love cooking roasts on this! I most of all love cooking my steak, lamb, and sausages on this it brings out the flavour which makes it more enjoyable. Some accessories are pricey and since COVID this BBQ has gone up in price. I'd definitely will buy another once mine passes its used by date.

Weak flames, poor quality – Flames are truly weak. Followed instructions many times to light without bypass safety feature triggering. Flames are so weak, turning it down to low causes them to go out. Impossible to sear a steak. Everything is plastic, and gives a low quality appearance and feel. will love it. If you expect to have a typical six burner and charcoal the food then this isn’t for you. This is a more gentle BBQ but will still give you the seared to perfection steaks and snags if you just keep the lid down!

The only negative I would think about is the plastic frame, not bad looking but doesn’t speak super high quality. Also fiddly to put together but that’s only one hour out many years of awesome food.

People writing bad reviews either can’t read or refuse to read how to use the BBQ. Follow the instructions and you’ll enjoy the food. I wouldn’t trade this for any other BBQ, I’m hooked.

Not value for money – Good looking, good reviews. I thought I bought a high quality product. Family BBQ indeed and it is ideal when you have a number of people to feed 'coz of the size. Other than this, it's bad design. This has 2 horizontal burners, one is like a loop that goes around and one horizontal in the middle. I guess the idea is high heat = 2 burners on,… Read more

medium = main burner, low = middle burner.

It does not generate enough heat even with both burners on. For the plates to get really hot (for a steak), have to leave the cover closed. Once it's reached the right temperature, put the meat in, however if you leave the cover open while cooking, the grille temperature starts to go down. Guess what happens to your steak when you flip it and the grill is not hot enough. I'm not a fan of cooking steak with the cover on ... I might as well use the oven.

Secondly, there are times when I have to cook just for 2 people. Still have to turn on both burners. As I said, it does not generate enough heat. Additionally, because the burner is horizontal (not vertical unlike most BBQs), there is no choice but to use the whole BBQ even if you're only need one side to cook 2 or 3 steaks.

I was going to give this a 3 start but nah ... 2 will do.
