It's sad how quickly people can forget about you when they get your last pay – It's very sad that many building contractors just leave owners after handover. Unfortunately, this is what happened to us. Since we were in a hurry moving in last February due to our apartment contract expiring, we took the risk of taking the keys even though there were some obvious building issues such as paints, electrical (safety issues), etc. I have some concerns raised since we moved to Simonds some were fixed but took ages before they fixed it but the major issues are not. I have reminded the supervisor many times, but all I get are promises - "first thing next week" and it is the magic word. Bit annoying that I have to remind them via email, SMS, and call but the excuses are always there.
Three months is the usual maintenance period (and I just got my message from Simonds on this) but how can they maintain those issues afterward? Big companies are bounded and supported by their own terms and conditions on maintenance but owners have no guarantee after this. What if those lights and electrical issues I'm having require further maintenance and warranty, who do I need to call?
Simple lesson Learn: 1. Don't ever accept the keys if there are issues during handover. 2. Send complaints via official email with photos (for records) as proof.
- Build Stage: Post-Construction
- Construction End Date: February 2021
