All of the fancy features in this $240 toaster, Lift and Look, A Bit More, etc are great. However, for me,the fundamental requirement for a toaster… Read more
is to toast and to toast EVENLY. My toaster will brown the top half of the bread and leave the bottom half six shades light. In fact, the Lift and Look function is used to invert the bread halfway through the toasting cycle. Very disappointing - have just ordered a S.....M 4 slice toaster - I'll keep you posted.

This toaster won't , 'Brown you off ' . It will brown your toast though . Our last Breville toaster lasted for six years and worked well enough to… Read more
encourage us to buy another Breville .
After a good two months of use I cannot fault its toasting performance . Bread of all sorts is browned to an extraordinarily even consistency . The relative slowness of this appliance is probably why this occurs . Seriously I would much rather wait an extra half a minute for evenly toasted bread than get stripped or burnt offerings at express speed . It does fling the toast up at a sometimes alarming speed but I've yet to have a slice launch itself off the kitchen bench .
There are a few things that might be of consideration though . The crumb tray is impossibly shallow , so much so that anything over the size of a split pea won't come out easily . It's really back to the old days of tipping the toaster upside down and shaking it if you want to clean it properly . This is especially so if you have the odd raisin escape from fruit bread or buns . The 'Select ' dial is on the side of the machine , the other buttons and lift lever are at the end . Clearly the toaster was designed to sit with its back against the wall . If your bench space is limited and you need to sit it at right angles to the bench top the dial is not easily seen , neither is the crumb tray able to be removed without turning the unit .
Small considerations really .
I like it , a lot , it doesn't dry bread out , you can choose different settings for crumpets and other breads and it does make a difference , it's quick enough and is not so big as to make a statement on the kitchen bench . Yes there are cheaper toasters available , few are better though .

little bit more this is the results. So, if you are looking for a good all over toast browning forget this model. Overpriced and undercooks.

changing a setting the toast cooks differently virtually each time and often the bread burns. Just junk and Iam so disappointed ! I would strongly advise potential buyers to look for another brand.

to replace it as a quality toaster should last more than 13 months under Australian Consumer Law, but they refused. I asked how long they expect a Breville toaster to last and they refused to answer. In summary, they build junk that's only designed to last up until the warrantee period then they don't care.

you're purchasing.
The toaster is not sold by all retailers and it's not to be confused with the Toastset 4 slice, they are different, look closely and you will see the buttons are in a different place.
The reason I point this out is the look alike is older and also has a look alike in stainless steel, both of these are not as good as this one .
The other thing I suggest is to do a search for coupons and discount coupons and use the Breville site and give yourself a discount. I saved 16 dollars on this unit and it was lower than the price on Amazon.
It's a great looking unit; I really like it.
The finish is not gloss but a matt finish still looks good though.
The question was to me which Breville do I buy? I had the Breville top of the range long 2 slice toaster in the past, does not look like it changed much, but then I saw they had two 4 slice toasters in the same range, but I really liked the look of this one, maybe my tastes have changed, I always liked sleek no-nonsense modern things, now I'm becoming more arty and reflecting my true passion, or maybe I am just getting old.
It boiled down to what I could do without, and I didn't need the crumpet setting because I had been toasting crumpets the same way before these crumpet setting "we will toast one side " came along, so I am fine with that.
Then the long slots versus shorter slots. Can I do without the long slots? how many times do I actually toast long artisan sour loaf slices?
Not very often it turned out.
The slot size:
160mmx37mm ,
the slots are still a big size , check out the photo, you can see there is still plenty of room for bigger toast. Maybe take a tape measure to the supermarket and measure your favourite Artisan slice , this might help you decide.
But , does this thing toast ?
My results show it toasts very even and consistent, probably the best I have experienced over my toaster journey.
The fruit bread setting is accessed by a double press of the frozen button and glows blue. I toasted thick raisin toast and it came out perfect to my taste, still nice fresh and moist on the inside and at two the toasting was very even on both sides and toasted to the edges, a slight variance in colour when looking at both sides, but still the best I have seen from a toaster.
I tested normal bread and timed it. Setting 3 and 3.5 were almost identical in timing and similar in colour so I moved than to the 2 setting and got my desired colour .
Cook times for normal loaf varied from 3minutes at 3.5 and 2 minutes at 2, and 1.33 for the raisin toast also on the 2 setting.
The toaster gets quite warm on the outside, so be careful when around children, the temperature clocked in at 54 C.
All in all, a very nice toaster, best of the bunch so far and I will keep tabs on its performance and change this review when and if necessary.
