mention the hygiene of how I’d have to sanitise it first.

When I contacted Activeskin, with photos, they notified me that their return policy is that I’d have to send the item back (at the cost of my time of course, it’s not going to take itself to the post office), ship it back to them (given they use Australia Post which is extremely slow and around the same time I had other orders from the east coast & overseas arrive earlier, I’ve never seen a cosmetics company use Australia Post before, so that should say it all), so keep in mind how long it would take to get back to them, for them to “review” whether a refund is permitted, and if they say no, you then need to pay $5 to have it sent back. For an item that was broken when I received it? This is after photos have been sent to them as well.

I have a background in advertising, & I’ve never seen Ts & Cs like this before, I wouldn’t have thought to check because in a situation like this, it’s beyond ridiculous. What…they think I’m gonna use a highlighter with bits of carpet fibres and a piece of hair on it, without being able to twist it back up? Insane.

Don’t ever buy from them regardless of the sale. You get what you pay for. I’ll be lodging an ACCC complaint against them to hopefully help others’ not go through what I did.

Edit Feb 2024: This company is not having me return a broken-on-delivery item without a refund first. I don’t work for free, what kind of brand would even ask that for a broken or faulty item. Please read the other reviews to see that I am not the only one with this issue. Do I leave positive reviews for brands/businesses (here, or other sites) too? Yep, sure do. If you have had a bad experience where you are clearly not to blame, then please contact the ACCC & don’t give in to unethical return policies with arrogant staff members who won’t have me answering a call from them again. This isn’t even the only issue I had with them, I’m simply just not naming the other item because it was no fault of the brand’s product and everything to do with the website description (see other reviews about that too), not to mention the lengthy wait times to receive the order. I’m done. Never again.

was in my opinion unreasonable and out of step with other similar businesses. The time I wasted on what should have been a simple transaction was more valuable in monetary terms that the refund price of the product. For that reason, my previous review stands and I will not be dealing with Activeskin in the future.

express post will still make it just before I leave. Today (4 March) have been notified of further delays to stock not expected to arrive until 7 March (if then). I cancelled the entire order. Now I go on holidays with no makeup! I would never had ordered products that were not in stock for this reason. They say it would have shown on their website, but how did I miss it on 2 products? Anyway, beware buying from this company. I will NEVER buy from them again!

expensive than it was recently and 30% more than other online beauty stores. This is deceiving and underhanded to be honest. I did order this time as it reduced to the same price as other stores normal price but it is just in bad taste that they try to trick their customers.

informed and why their website said it was in stock (and still does). They responded with its a system error and were incredibly blunt and rude and gave me a $3 refund.

This is the second time I have ordered through Active Skin, and the first time it took 5 days for my order to be shipped, and 10 days for it arrive. I have them the benefit of the doubt and again they have let me down.

This has happened to multiple friends also.

I would highly recommend going to Adore Beauty.

Excellent Customer Service – Unfortunately when I ordered products from Activeskin, the parcel went missing despite investigations by Australian Post. Australia Post washed its hands of my issue and told me to go back to the company who sold me the product. During the entire investigation processes, Kellie from Activeskin kept me up to date and then in the end they replaced my order at no charge to me. I received an email asking me to call them to confirm I was a "real person" and that this was "standard procedure" for first orders. They repeated that they wanted me to contact them to verify my identity and I could either provide evidence of the transaction in my bank account or call them. They also said they didn't have my number (when they did) and when I brought it up, they said they don't know why the last email said that. They tried to call me and I didn't answer.

I haven't EVER been asked to confirm my identity for a first order before, so, naturally I hesitated. It felt verryyy scammy even if it was their "standard procedure for first orders". After I refused to provide any further details, they admitted that my order was flagged because it was addressed to a different person (my partner - which is something I mentioned in my first reply to them), the email address didn't match the shipping name (yes, because my partner kindly collects our packages from the post office for us ... I imagine this isn't too uncommon?) and because I referred to my partner by his middle name not his first name. This final excuse shouldn't have been a reason for the flag in the first place, as I only mentioned this in my reply. As is typical in many cultures, my partner chooses to go by his middle name not his first name (which is more of a family name). Not unusual at all, but their "standard procedure" is. I understand protecting your customers and business from possible fraudulent orders, but nothing in my order suggested it was. The money came out of my bank account (the same name as the email address I was replying on, btw) and I didn't flag it as fraudulent on my end. It appeared this wasn't standard process for all first orders, just mine, because I addressed it to my partner.

Their final email was, "Sorry you didn't feel comfortable with talking on the phone to me."

Of course I didn't! It's 2023 and there's a new scam every day. And how, exactly, would talking to me on the phone resolve anything? Is there a particular tone only scammers use? If they were worried about the order being in my partner's name, shouldn't they have wanted to talk to him? It doesn't make any sense at all. Just a waste of time.

I requested a refund and they obliged. I'm glad. I'll order from someone else who understands that sometimes the customer and shipping address name are different.

TL ;DR: My order was flagged as fraudulent because I addressed it to my partner instead of myself. Order from Adore Beauty instead. You get a Tim Tam with your order and they're lovely to deal with.

would I know how bad it performed without opening it to try it? If an item is not fit for its intended purpose and doesn’t perform as it says then you should be able to return it. However, apparently that’s not their fault. They are only the seller and not the manufacturer. I strongly recommend you go and buy from a reputable dealer.
