AEG 2x18v (36V) 6.0Ah 18" Fusion Lawn Mower ALM18BS6 Questions & Answers
VerifiedMPN: ALM18BS6Does anyone know if the generic battieries you can get from ebay work in these mowers?
I have one of these mower and it's been 2 years old h as been a good mower but I can't get it going batteries are fully charged but still can't get it going. Took it back to Bunnings and they can't do anything because I can't find my receipt and I can't remember the exact date I brought it. At the moment I am stuck with a broken down lawnmower. Not happy with the situation. Is there anything I can do to get it fixed .
Check the orange card like plug above the battery is inserted correctly
I think this is a common problem, I was getting this issue intermittently over the last twelve months, starting from cold, starting warm, didn't matter. It'd randomly happen. In the past I'd click the button a couple times and it'd work. Today it took about ten minutes clicking and wiggling the button. So, seems like either the button or the handle wiring is faulty and easy to damage. You could try fixing yourself, or go to a sparkie if you're not comfortable doing that. I still have my receipt so I'll be going to Bunnings.
My mower is 2 years old and had just started doing the same. Starts but then stops. At first it was intermittent and now its happening all the time as soon as I start mowing. I will take it back tomorrow as its under warranty still and update here when I find out what the problem is.
Where to get the batteries and charger? I am in Ireland, Europe.
Try after-market products. There should be some available on sites like eBay or similar.
Do the generic batteries work with the mower? The model numbers don't match up on ebay?
Mine has started to stop after every few minutes. Turns on immediately after but stops again. Only had it for 12 months. Any one have any advice?
Take it back to where you bought it. Had an issue with my AEG angle grinder and took it back and had it rectified under warranty - all good since then.
Thanks mate
Does anyone know why we cannot use 5ah 18v batteries from our other AEG tools in the fusion lawnmower?
I understood it was only the 9ah that couldn't be used. TBH I wouldn't want to go any smaller than a 6ah anyway, unless the area to be mowed was very small
Thanks. From some further reading I did I think it is about heat being generated in smaller batteries and this potentially damaging them. Cheers
It's the "Pro Lithium" series that can't be used (regardless of capacity). You need the "Force" series. My guess is it's exactly as you say due to the internal resistance of the battery causing overheating for high current draw, presumably the Force series is a better technology with less internal resistance
The AEG Fusion (ALM18B or ALM18BS6) should support the 9ah batteries, I checked with Bunnings and they confirmed it. Bought two to replace the 6ah ones that come with it and they work perfectly. I'm not sure about AEG 5ah batteries but it works fine with 6ah Force and 6ah Pro Li (came with Chainsaw and Line Trimmer). My understanding is as long as the voltages are right the bigger/smaller amp hours just affects how long it'll work for. I don't mix and match between them though, so 2x6ah Force, or 2x6ah Pro Li or 2x9ah Force only.
I have used my 5ah in my mower does go but not for long. The problem problem was the 2 batteries were faulty 6ah so they gave me 2 new ones. But after 2 years now I can’t mow my small yard before they run out of power. Not really happy with the mower it digs into the ground all the time.
Brand new AEG 18v battery mower from Bunnings. Cannot remove the mulching plug in order to use catcher. 3 people have tried so far (2M1F). What is the secret. Pictorial instructions only are useless.
Len, If you can't remove it, let Bunnings remove it. Mine popped with a minimal twist, However I've just left mine in because the mulching plug works great for my small residential lawn. If you have a residential lawn, don't bother removing it. Just leave it in and mow often, it works a treat. Good luck!
Thank you John. Took it to Bunnings and they removed it by pushing it forward (rather than pulling it back as shown in pictorial instructions) and removing it from underneath. We will probably leave it out as we have a large residential block and the grass/weeds grow fast in the tropics, so usually need numerous catcher loads.
It is tight, but relatively easy with the correct technique. Holding the upright twist it left to right & slightly lift upwards. This releases the shorter left side & you can then pull backwards. I remove mine every time after use, as the built up clippings need to be cleanrd out.
Thank you Whip. I'll try that as it would be easier than the method the helpful guy at Bunnings used if I can master it. Why it isn't shown in the manual is a mystery.
This seems like a serious flaw in the design, I had the same problem with mine. There was a Ryobi/AEG rep on site at Bunnings when I went back and even he couldn't get it out. He got on the phone to another AEG person who walked him through it, but he made me do it because he wasn't game in case he broke it 0_o When it happened I asked him to make a suggestion to AEG design team to fix it. Suggest everyone does the same, maybe the "mark II" version will be better.
My brand new mower from Bunnings the battery’s only last 15 minutes run time what a waste of money
Did you just buy the skin Margaret and using older batteries? If so take the box back to Bunnings and get the combo with 2 x 6amp batteries. All the other AEG tools are lower. Also the first charge is critical I found. Good luck!
I bought the kit with the 2x6ah Force batteries. I've found that run time is at least 30mins when the grass is long & damp/wet, but can be around 45 mins or more when shorter & dry. If you've got the 6ah Force batteries & only getting 15mins I'd take them back under warranty.
I bought the mower with the batterys I fully charged them and 15 minutes into the mow batterys where flat
ask for 2 new batteries and 1 new charger. Somethings not right
Ok thanks John
Is AEG 2x18v (36V) 6.0Ah 18" Fusion Lawn Mower ALM18BS6 self propelled?, if not do you have one that is please?
No it isn't
No, and don’t buy one
Hi Bought the mower today. Wouldn't start for 20 mins, (NO INSTRUCTIONS IN WORDS). Then off and on a few times and then it when. Mowed the lawn however, it stopped a couple of times but restarted without issues. In the end it stopped and wouldnt't restart. Batteries were on 25% & 50&?
Only thing I can think of is full charge of both batteries before first use and make sure the safety key is in properly. Hope it goes well.
I had a similar problem, couldn’t start it. A rep put me straight, hold the starter button down a second or two while holding the lever firmly back. I haven’t experienced it just cutting out unless batteries fully flat. Just because a charger initially flashes on 25% might easily mean it only has a few %, not enough to start it. I recommend if you have issues then hassle the AEG rep. My rep (Daniel Owens, Bunnings Canberra) was excellent, responded quickly and knew the business. Good luck.
I’ve only just unpacked my mower and am bewildered by the inadequate instruction manual - a series of pages with just low quality pictures with no written dialogue to compliment the pictures - I am yet to understand it and sadly am unable to give a review of the capability of the mower as I am still coming to grips as to whether some of the parts are permanent fixtures or removable to allow mulching, deflecting etc. I went to school and learnt how to read - please rewrite your manual with written instructions
Bought AEG mower but only problem, is that it does not pick up grass. Mowed my mid size yard and nothing in catcher. Is this common?
Have you removed the panel on the side? There is a plastic panel that stops the grass from going into the catcher.
I'm having the same issue. How do you remove it?
Sounds like the mulching plug is still in the mower. Look for the comment on this site from Whip on how to remove it.
How do I easily remove the mulcher. It gets caught in the nuts at the back of the mower
Mate I had exactly the same problem. After an hour of shredding the plastic mulch plug on those nuts I rang Bunnings. (Coz you can’t find a number for AEG!!!)I heard the guy on the phone wrestling with it as well. The easiest way I’ve found is to lift it up by the handle a couple of centimetres then twist to the right, so the left hand side comes out first. This still requires a bit of effort. To put it back in (whether this is right or not coz it’s not explained in manual) is to set the mower to the highest cut level and pull mulch plug in from underneath. Coz there’s no way of getting in place from the back because of those nuts. Major design fault. Gotta say I’m underwhelmed. Between this problem and batteries lasting just on one hour (Average height grass) I’m thinking of taking it back. I normally don’t reply to forums but I fully understand your frustration. Cheers
I cannot get the lawn mower to start. What am I doing wrong. It is brand new
make sure the battery is pushed in firmly, the arrow on the key is pointing to the battery being used. Press button and then lever and away you go!
Ensure that the 'key' fitted above the batteries is also firmly seated. When starting, it takes a few seconds before the motor starts so don't take your finger off the centre button until the motor actually starts
Age 50w brushless home base sell them without batteries and charger where can you purchase them ????
I have about 8 AEG cordless fusion brushless power tools. I am very happy with them. I understand the 18v lawnmower uses a pair of the same batteries. A big plus for me! I have seen deals for the ‘AEG Brushless Fusion ALM18BS6’ which include a blower by redemption. I am keen but I can’t see any current deals. Are there any planned? Thanks, Rob
I wouldn't buy it again. I have numerous AEG power tools plus a garden blower and hedge trimmer but the mower is a dead loss as far as I'm concerned. Extremely hard to push in low height settings - and I mean extremely. The mower body seems to drag excessively on the grass you're cutting. If the blade was perhaps 15-20mm lower compared to the body, it might be much better. The other tools etc are great.
Totally agree re the drag in low settings.
I so agree also. Is there a way to lift the body up. Aeg can you do something about this? Considering taking my mower back. So annoying
Greenfinger, I did take mine back. The ryobi petrol mowers are rubbish as well for the same reason. I bought a stihl rma 410c and it does not cut my 'Sir Grange' (fine bladed buffalo) grass at all well, it digs in. So back to a petrol mower.
I rarely mow on the lowest settings so it's not generally a problem. But on the one time I tried I noticed this as well. The rear wheels rise properly when you change height settings but the front wheels don't seem to rise at all. I wondered if it was a broken linkage, but sounds like it's a common issue and a design flaw.
I recently (July 2024) bought the AEG mower skin (Bunnings) but the mower body drags badly at lower height settings (this height is needed to actually cut the grass!). This problem has been mentioned several times in this stream - has anyone received a response fro AEG? I am wondering if anyone has tried putting a spacer on the blade drive shaft to lower the blades relative to the mower body?
mine drags even on setting No 2 - on setting No 1 it won’t move at all
I am having the same issue at setting 2, I am wondering if there is a blade that sits lower to the mower frame.
