reusable pod apparently. Why spend thousands for bells, whistles and pretentious pomp, when you can have great coffee for a machine that's less than $100? Even when we have coffee out and about, we think our own coffee is still the best. Maybe Aldi could reintroduce the cube style with a little splash of colour, but this works beautifully in our happy kitchen.

meets all the above criteria. Typically retails around $79, and the pods are $6.50 for 16 pods, so it won't burn your wallet at $0.41 each! I've had some better pod coffee, and many worse ones, compared to what this Aldi machine makes. Better coffee than ANY drip machine. The factory default has two modes, a short and a long. But you can program these to dispense the volume you prefer. The Aldi coffee pods come in continuous strengths and various styles from 5 (Tauro) to 14 (Intense). There are also Organic at strength 8, Decaf 7, Chai Latte, Regular and White hot chocolates. Various flavoured coffees are regularly produced as limited releases. To be honest, there are some varieties I do not like the taste, but I do like more than half of the varieties. The best results are obtained with a decent milk. The FARMHOUSE GOLD MILK (blue lid) makes a very good crema. The Aldi machine is "slim line", average/large sized and extremely easy to keep clean. It also fits my favourite, VERY large mugs (12 cm tall, 350 ml). I typically use pod strength 11-14 for a mug. The warm up time is 15 seconds and the machine has a mandatory rinse cycle. An auto shut off activates after 3-5 mins if not being used. Although it can be switched on again without the warm up and mandatory rinse cycle within a few minutes of the auto shut off activation. There are many smaller machines on the market if space is critical, but they have smaller water tanks, tiny bins and usually won't fit the larger mugs. The Aldi Expressi has several different colour options. A minor nuisance: occasionally a pod drops directly into the bin when you insert it. But it is easily retrieved and is perfectly useable as the pod isn't pierced when this happens. Also the water level cannot be observed in the plastic water tank, nor can you see when the bin is full. However, this is pretty typical with most pod machines. The water tank capacity and bin capacity are higher than most pod machines (the bin holds 7 pods). It's easy to check the water level via top, rear lid. The water tank and the bin both lift off the base for easy cleaning. Summary Good Points: Fairly decent coffee for a pod machine, lots of beverage options. Price $79. Pods $0.46 each. Reliable, & easy to use. Auto shut off. Programmable. Large Bin. Large Water tank. Fits large mugs. Bad points: Cannot observe water or bin levels. Sometimes a pod "drops" through (but pod isn't damaged).

way too much oxygen for way too long, resulting in a pretty miserable tasting decaf) Put another way, the way that pods are sealed right after the bean being ground is a boon to decaf drinkers that long for a fresher brew.
1 potential drawback is that there's no milk frother included, so you'll need to decide how you're going to deal with that. Personally I'm not a huge froth guy, so I'm happy with just topping it up with regular milk which cools it to a nicer drinking temp anyway. This isn't personally something I think it lacks, but I could see some people having an issue with this, but again, I couldn't care less.
Adequate for day to day use – Inexpensive entry level machine perfect for intermittent or light (1-3 cups) daily use. The benefits overall: Pods are 0.37c each - cheaper than most on the market and come in 16pc packs. 13 different varieties of flavours (including decaf, hot chocolate) + occasional specials. Not too big - width is good but depth of machine might be a problem for some.
Downsides: Water container could be: bigger, clear (able to see level) and mounted in sight of the user. Inconsistent fill heights - not major but sometimes noticeable Pods mainly available from 1 store. Pod piercing/loading mechanism - not flimsy, but not great either. Plastic Pods
Would certainly recommend to friends/family who are occasional drinkers or 1-3 a day usage.

chocolate and white chocolate pods! the coffee is very nice and the hot chocolate is creamy and chocolaty lol im looking forward to trying the white chocolate one soon. it has great water capacity and a catchment space for the used coffee pods that fall in automatically when opening the coffee machine. one annoyance is that you have to press the crema button and then the short or long button (depending if you want a short or long black ect) it would be nice if you only had to press one button but that's just being picky. aldi offer a 2 year warranty on this product which means you can take it back if unhappy, with the receipt, and get a refund, from what i have observed in the past the staff are very friendly with this process. Consistency of pour has been fantastic and crema always silky and thick.

Just because it's a cheap machine doesn't mean you shouldn't properly maintain it. We regularly descale ours and clean all of the parts where water comes out. You have to do this with the more expensive machines and I know that most people don't bother with the Aldi machine and wonder why it fails after six months.
You can only use the Aldi Expressi coffee capsules, but they have such a wide variety including special editions they occasionally bring out. You can also get hot chocolate pods to use in this machine.
Aldi seriously needs to release a version of this machine with a steaming wand to froth milk.

machine will find it's not the machine but the higher intensity pods which have densely packed grinds restricting or blocking water flow. This happened to me with intensity 11 pods. As another reviewer has pointed out all you need to do is squeeze the pod a couple of times to loosen the grinds before inserting it which will fix the problem. Oh, and the catch container will only jam if you let it get over full. For $79.99, unbeatable in my opinion.

obviously a major design fault with these machines. It seems I am not the only one this is happening to either ( going by the reviews where theirs have broke down exactly the same way too) .

hard to pull up then and lots of steam was getting out. The brewed coffee went into the capsule container instead of the cup. I wasted a lot of capsules due to that. Finally, I called it quits and asked a checkout lady at Aldi if I could get a replacement. She said she had the same machine and the same issue and she told me to run salty hot water through the machine to clean it. I did that in the hope of solving all the problems but sadly it didn’t help. I took the machine for replacement last Saturday. Unfortunately, Aldi discontinued this model, so I bought Expressi One machine. To my surprise, this model is leaking water while warming up and on top of that it has the same problem. Today is Wednesday so after only 4 days the capsule got stuck and pressure building again, only some coffee flowing to the mug. I decided to return it straightaway and not wait for a few months to see if it is going to get better. I received a full refund, no questions asked, which I really appreciate about Aldi. Now, I’m back to instant coffee before I decide on the next step. I’m glad I could enjoy the coffee for one year as I really liked the taste and options. Hope Aldi will further improve this capsule machine!

Unreliable & eventually breaks down! – The coffee was not warm enough. It took me a while to find the pod flavors that I liked & even then, not so great, I'd still buy a coffee on my way to work. We bought a new machine and had this problem so took it back and the replacement machine has the same problem. We've now bought a plunger - and intend to return the Aldi Expressi One.

This machine has limitations and problems with gas in pods over #10 strength – Whilst the Expressi Cube gives a delicious coffee often, we have experienced problems with the Pods over #10 strength holing excess gas. would not buy another Expressi machine as now we cannot guarantee that we won’t continue to purchase gas filled pods resulting in weak coffee and water leaks through the machine. Plus the Expressi Cube Coffee machine only uses Expressi pods and is very noisy

tray every 6 or so cups. If you don’t and one too many a pod is ejecting into the tray it will get stuck which requires a bit of wiggling and effort to get out. The tray itself is also a bit narrow to effectively clean in the corners but hand.
The machine is slightly noisier than similar Nespresso machines but nothing extreme.
This is a great budget alternative to Nespresso.
Faulty rubbish – Have had 2 aldi expressi machines in a week and will be seeking my money back tomorrow. The 1st one made 1 cup successfully before dribbling 5ml in the cup and 50ml in the pod waste container. Replacement machine made 3 cups before failing. Good machine - although only one brand of biodegradable / compostable pods – I'm fairly sure ours is the current cube style machine. It is compact and easy to clean and use. I have been using an alternative supermarket's pods as I find the coffee at Aldi is a bit naf. A better upgrade – Our five (5) year old Aldi coffee maker worked fine but, after a while, on each use, leaked like a sieve. is easier to refill. Instead of removing the water refill container, just add from above. We have to be a little more cautious about emptying the capsules, the flush water and capsules go into the same container. Easy to maintain. Makes a good coffee. Put a sound damper mat under the machine is my only suggestion. One of those poly / rubber mats or a place mat?
The old machine? We couldn't throw it out, it still works (plus H2O leaks)... And the capsules can be recycled. Look it up!

thing I am not sure about is that the used pods go to landfill. If there was a more environmentally friendly option then this machine would be perfect.
Great machine overall – Excellent value for money. Coffee tastes great, smooth and not bitter at all. Very consistent taste and temperature, just wait a couple of minutes before making the next cup. of the ALDI pods. In my opinion its equal to or better than more than half the commercial coffees I get, if not more. UNlike the other reviewer, I think that a single pod is roughly equivalent in cost to a rounded scoup of coffee granules in a plunger pot and gives better coffee. My friends expensive ($3000 +) coffee machine does produce better coffee, but by the time she has made one cup and cleaned the machine I can have consumed an entire box of ALDI pods.
The coffee range is also quite diverse, and you should be able to find something to your liking.
Overall, for the price of the machine and the cost of a cup of coffee, a very worthwhile purchase. Of course like many reviewers I havent owned any competitor machines, although you dont need to do that to see that most of them are more expensive not only to own but to produce coffee.

machine gets neglected when i need it most- when i am too busy to make a special trip to aldi. Also it requires you to run the water before each pod, if youve already put a pod in its a wasted pod, but if you run the water with the pod hole open the water drains in to the waste part instead of out the coffee spout. Aesthetically pleasing, lasting quality, but odd practical design.
Good machine - but not very hot coffee – Bought our expressi last month, works fine and makes a decent cup of coffee. Only issue is coffee is not that hot. Coffee is more very warm then hot.
