I went to pay my bill with my energy provider only to be told I had switched to another company , alinta has hijacked my account without verbal or written consent , I really hope they don't expect to get any money from me.

This is online yesterday. Exactly the same thing happened to me today - demanding to know your account number when you have even signed up. Extremely frustrating. When I finally got through to someone in the Philippines, he didn’t seem to care and (wrongly) told me our property was serviced by Alinta. Original post:

I only have electricity installed . I was unhappy with my former provider and asked Alinta for a quote . The quote sounded just fine . Big mistake ! The first bill was only a part of the three months . the second was 28% higher than normal but they offered a 28% discount . So the bill was at the end of the day , not one cent less than the previous rip off . Strange coincidence I think
Dodgy and unprofessional.
I enquired about a home I was going to move into about changing the power to Alinta but I never actually moved in. Alinta said they would call me back around that date to discuss my options but instead they just signed me up and started billing me for the address I never lived at. I called them to tell them and they said it was a mistake and they would fix it but 3 months later I got another bill, I even got a gas bill!!! I rang again explaining what had happened and they told me my account had been deactivated and the bills reversed. 7 months later I get another bill, a text message and a phone call trying to tell me I have a $77 bill oweing. Once again I called and explained they have it all wrong and I have never lived at the address and they told me the bill will be reversed and my account has been deactivated. So time will tell this time if it actually happens. I feel sorry for the people who actually stress out and pay these bills even though they know they shouldn’t because they are in the right. This company is crooked!! Don’t even enquire about their services because you’ll end up a customer whether you like it or not!!!!

Very Happy We Made The Switch!
My husband and I are pensioners and when our daughter suggested we change we got nervous as it sounded too good to be true. We had just started to install solar panels and were about to add this to our service with a previous company. The first electricitybill with Alinta was mind blowing cheap we saved about $250.
By the time the second bill came around our solar had just been finished and the service we got from Alinta was amazing. Sadly we had already engaged a dodgy contractor for installation who took his money and ran and didnt register our solar, so we phoned Alinta to see what we could do. There was a lovely gentleman that looked after us and he did so much leg work and every time he promised to phone us we got the call to the minute. He ended up assisting us with getting the panels through their registration and did not charge one cent. Now thats customer service to the enth degree. We are elderly and dont get our heads around technology easily and Alinta were very empathetic and helpful in our situation. As a pensioner it is reassuring that there are companies that under promise and over deliver which is very rare these days.
My husband and I can confidently recommend Alinta and are so pleased that our daughter talked us into making this change. Good job guys and thank you for making this stress free and easy

I got approached in our local shopping centre and we were just about to look at moving house. Our electricity bill with the previous provider was always between $700-$900 per month. Our bills came down dramatically I was shocked. Not only that everytime I phone them the staff are more than accommodating and helpful. I since have made the change to my business account also which has been just as great. Cant recommend them enough!
I received the highest bill of my entire life - $300 for one month and i haven't used any more electricity to usual... So, i'm moving on. Would not recommend this provider
One of the worst gas providers in WA
Struggling to pay bill but due to constant hospital stays and unable to ring Alinta sent me a bill with a $17 late/overdue fee. I’m on a DSP and I won’t be paying this. Have you seen the google reviews on this company? They don’t even give you a pensioner discount.
I thought being a WA company and since they are now National I thought at least Alinta would cut me some slack. I think I may just go to another gas provider

Salesperson Made False Claims
A salesperson signed me up to switch my two business electricity accounts to Alinta based on a false claim that it would save us money, using false data for a cost comparison. He said Alinta was offering 25% off its normal rate. The actual discount rate was 20%. He also quoted a kWH rate (post-discount) that was less than the ex-GST price of the actual amount of 20% off the plan he was signing me up for. The plan name even has "20" in it, despite the percentage discount amount he mentioned verbally. For comparison with the price of my current supplier, he gave a kWH rate that was higher than the rate of my current company even before the 30% discount that we already have. He also quoted a higher government supply charge rate for my current company than what it actually had. We would not have saved money with Alinta.
Energy bill in my junk mail
I have been with Alinta Energy now for over a year. My bills continue to go into my junk/spam email account. I have rung Alinta twice and have had no help. Very frustrating. I was told “rest assured” I was not the only one with this problem. Nothing has been done to fix it. If I don’t check my junk mail I may miss my bill.

After doing research and reading reviews online I decided to cancel my transfur request with alinta energy. Upon doing so the operator was rude and abrupt and continued to argue with me.
How can it take 10 Days to process a refund!!!! That's AFTER it is received by the by the refund Dept!!

I rang alinta after they forgot to apply my concession. Then different amounts started appearing on my online account...called them and they said they were slow at updating the information and to ignore it. I asked for the final amount owing and the next day after I paid it out. Another random amount appears!! So I ring them again and they tell me it is an adjustment! Then low and behold the next week I receive my next electricity bill. One week after I paid it! Do not go near them they are hopeless! I have lost sleep over them and they can not answer me my questions. Absolute rubbish company.
I have been with Alina for a number of years, I have never had any issues with them. I have changed address 3 times and the online system worked well each time for moving in/out dates. I have spoken to them on the phone and been pleased with the customer service provided.
I have recently been getting calls from other providers new to WA and I phoned Alinta and they gave me a discount on my bill. I would rather stay with a reliable service than switch to cold calling salespeople. Thanks Alinta.

They send people out to Shopping Centres and suck in unsuspecting consumers with promises, get them to sign up- and then deliver something quite different to what has been promised.
Why can they get away with it?

We switched from Origin to Alinta for our business with promises our bills would be much cheaper, Just received our first bill and it's a 1000.00 higher!! Origin gave us a good discount with no crap about paying on time to get it. If we had been told by Alinta to get a discount we would have to pay on time when we moved our electricity we would never had done it. Shame on you Alinta for misleading people! I will be taking my complaint to the energy watchdog and switching back to Origin
Said my credit was to bad.
Signed up to alinta from a door to door salesmen. I get a letter from them saying my application has been rejected due to a poor credit rating My credit score is very good a few late bills here and there. Never had an issue like this before. I have moved company’s without issues since. So don’t know what your deal is.
Took my gas account WITHOUT permission
Absolutely disgusted with Alinta Energy. I am a very happy customer with AGL and have been for over 5 years now. Around 3 months ago AGL are notifying me that they have received a transfer request for my gas account. I contacted AGL and advised this is not correct, I have not signed with Alinta and not to transfer my account. Somehow, Alinta insisted and took the account anyway, stating to AGL they had a signed contract with the owner of the property...interesting pretty sure I am the sole (and original) owner. I had to wait for the gas to switch over to Alinta to then request a new account with AGL for it to return and low and behold I all of a sudden receive a bill in my letter box from Alinta addressed to "The Occupier". I contacted Alinta to voice my concerns with what has taken place to get nothing more from the lady on the phone then "When will the bill be paid?" and "I apologise on behalf of Alinta but it was not my fault". It would not matter what discounts Alinta are offering, I would never go through them!
Worst Experience Ever
About 18 months ago I was persuaded by their rep to change my electricity to Alinta from Origin Energy due to their "cheaper rates" and "awesome discounts". I was with Origin for years and my bill never went above $600 for a quarter during peak seasons for my household but thought I would give them a go and see if I could save some money. Since changing to Alinta my bills increased pretty much every quarter and the latest bill was over $1000!!!. I have never had a bill that high for electricity in my life, and I have lived in the tropics where we had the A/C on constantly all through summer. They lied about their cheaper rates, didn't inform me of tariff changes and I was assured that I would get a 25% discount regardless of paying on time or not and yet this never happened. But after closer examination of their bills, I was being charged a higher tariff anyway making their supposed discount an absolute joke. I have since changed back to Origin but Alinta are still chasing me for money. They have lied about my account, added extra charges that I was never made aware of and now they want over $1500 paid to them. They are a terrible company to deal with, they don't listen and treat their customers like we're idiots. Do they think we all came down in the last storm or something?!? When I questioned them about not receiving their latest bill, they said I had received it. Really? Do they have access to my email address? Do they live in my home and get my mail? Don't tell me what I have and have not received. Worst electricity provider ever. And to make matters worse, everyone you speak to cannot speak proper English or have very thick accents and are therefore very difficult to communicate with. I have nothing against diversity in this country, I actually welcome it. But if you are going to hire someone for a customer service position it would be wise to ensure that your customers can actually understand them. Otherwise, what's the point? And there is never a supervisor available when you request one, regardless of the time of day leading me to think they are adept in the practice of "artful dodging". If you're thinking of changing to them, don't. They will rip you off and lie to you.
Special note to Alinta: Don't try to placate me by commenting on this review. I do not want your empty apologies like you have commented in other reviews. The purpose of my review is not to have you tell me how sorry you are that I experienced this, or that you will check my account to see what happened. It is to inform others and caution them not to use your company so they don't get stung like I did. You cannot make a silk purse out of this sow's ear so don't even try.
