Disgraceful Service for a customer

APIA cancelled my car insurance because of an unpaid premium. This was due to me credit card being hacked so I forgot to update it with APIA. Would have thought a phone call would have been nice to advise my policy was cancelled. I have been driving around for 1 week uninsured because they emailed me 1 week after they cancelled the policy. What a disgrace. Show details

Good Riddance APIA

I have had Car insurance with APIA for many years and the price increase this year is OUTRAGEOUS. The insured amount had dropped by 10% and the premium has risen by 35% and I have never made a claim.
I have now purchased comprehensive Car Insurance with Budget Direct for 38% less than the APIA quote. Show details

Never again

Nightmare. APIA refusing to fix my car unless excess is paid despite clearly providing details of other driver fault. Email correspondence gramme so bad I thought it must be a scam. Still have car damage and no progress 3 weeks after. Show details

Ripping existing customers off

Received a renewal notice for $569.02. Did an online quote for same insurance $463.33. 18.6% cheaper. Apia says that price for new customers only and told me that I could cancel my policy and then but a new one at the lower price. Derrrr. Gave them the chance to match in online chat. I was cut off by the agent who clearly just couldn't be bothered. The lazy tax in all of its glory taking advantage of older folks again. Got a quote from Suncorp for exactly the same insurance. $389.62. Goodbye Apia and I suggest that everyone carefully scrutinises their renewals from Apia and then shop around. Show details

Locked into their repairer

When you sign up check if they provide a Hire car. For a bumper repair, the repairer need my car for one week, I thought one maybe two days. Because I'm locked into their repairer I can't find someone else to do the job quicker and they are miles away. I could have gone one or two days without a car but a week. Now I've got to find the money for a Hire car for a week. Show details

Just don’t

Dishonest stand over company. Great at signing you up. Atrocious from lodging claim. Unless you want to travel 50 or more kilometres to get repairs and refuse to deal with panel shop next door. Why? They own an interest in the other panel shop. Work done a week after leaving their place already failing.

Amazing smooth process

From the 1st reporting of the accident, and then the repairs being carried out by SMART at Peakhurst, the whole process from beginning to end has been wonderful. So, I find it quite strange to read some poor reviews??
I haven't had an accident for a long time and my memory was of fighting with the insurer, having a lousy repair job and picking up the car from a dirty panel beating shop with non caring workers. APIA were almost instant with their approval and SMART repairs had the cleanest workshop I've ever seen. The staff at APIA and SMART were all courteous, friendly and super helpful. What else could you ask for!!!!!

Car accident 6 months ago, claim still not paid

The customer service from this company is a disgrace.
Accident resulted in the death of my mother (the policy holder). The driver of the other vehicle was at fault and has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death. Apia has not only held off on paying the claim, they also called to ask if my mother ( who died In the accident) has had an opportunity to collect her belongings from the ruins, despite being notified of her death when claim was first lodged.
Despite numerous contacts with the company, all of which result in them advising they will look further into it and get back to us, there has still been no resolution, nor payment of the claim, made to date. Accident was more than 6 months ago. Show details

Unethical company

APIA get you in and then ranp up their premium by 30%+. This is completely unethical. The assumption is that people will not notice or are too lazy. Don’t fall for this dirty, underhanded tricks. Escalate to AFCA and ACCC. They epitomise everything that is wrong with the world - all about ripping off people. Show details

When you payed for agreed value on your car, they can not depreciate your car because your paying extra for that car through your insurance ,your not paying for market value also they have a habit of putting insurance up cars devalue over time there rip offs I'm getting out

I have lodged a claim with APIA, for damage to my car by a third party. But I was told by APIA that I have to pay the excess upfront, and I'll get it refunded "IF things work out with the third party"! I am having anxiety over the idea that I might get stuck with the $825 excess bill! This seems so wrong, when I'm the victim!

Check your product disclosure statement. Good luck! I forwarded my bank statement to them 4 days ago showing I was charged twice for my CTP renewal. Still NO communication. Apia needs to be held to account!
