matter has been “forwarded to the relevant person.” Unfortunately, no one has followed up, contacted me, or taken any steps to resolve the problems. The lack of communication and accountability is shocking. It feels like once the sale was completed, the customer support simply disappeared. This is poor management at its worst. I expected far better from a company claiming to provide quality homes and service. At this point, I am completely frustrated. If you are considering building from ABC Builders/Metricon, I would strongly recommend reconsidering unless you are prepared to deal with months of silence and unresolved issues.

Secondly

A major leak in the recycled water line was identified shortly after handover. The builder refused responsibility, incorrectly blaming concreting works without evidence. An independent investigation confirmed the defect was due to poor workmanship during construction—750mm underground, making external damage unlikely.

The issue led to: Extensive repair costs (leak detection, plumbing, concrete work) Inability to occupy the home Additional 2 months of rent Emotional distress and lost workdays

stages, I feel it's time to share my thoughts.

============= Sales Experience ============= Our initial sales experience with Metricon was decent. We spent 6-8 months exploring various designs, and ABC Homes offered a good selection, though options for finishes were quite limited.

We initially selected a design we liked but were swayed by a new double-storey option, the Brookwater 42, after visiting a display home. The sales process itself was lengthy, but our representative was patient and helpful throughout, ensuring we were satisfied with our choices. However, the lengthy nature of the process should have raised red flags for what was to come.

========= Build Phase =========

Unfortunately, the build phase was riddled with problems. My site supervisor changed multiple times, and communication was nearly non-existent. Questions often went unanswered unless it was time for payments, which were strictly enforced according to the contract. This lack of empathy was disappointing, particularly during a difficult time when my father was terminally ill.

While I was overseas to visit him, I received an email demanding a payment for the completed second stage of the build, giving me only a week to respond. Despite my situation, Metricon refused to grant even a slight extension. I had to scramble to arrange inspections remotely, all while my father was gravely ill. Ultimately, I met the deadline, but the emotional toll was heavy.

The build itself also had significant flaws. The slab was shorter than the design, and a large glass window we had chosen was mysteriously absent, with Metricon claiming it was an optional add-on I hadn’t selected—despite my thorough review of every detail. A floating staircase I chose was initially replaced with a boxed version, further exemplifying the poor attention to detail.

The entire build took about 18-20 months, far longer than promised, leading to a small compensation for the delay. By the end, it felt as if they were rushing to hand over the house, resulting in subpar quality in many areas.

======== Handover ========

The handover process was frustratingly impersonal. Instead of a thorough walkthrough and explanation of warranties, it felt like a simple transaction: "Here are your keys, thank you." For such a significant investment, this lack of guidance was disappointing, leaving me with a sense of a 2-star experience at best.

=============== Post-Build/Warranty ===============

After moving in, the experience only worsened. Initially responsive, Metricon has become largely uncommunicative, leaving many issues unresolved. Within the first few months, I reported various problems, including shoddy kitchen cabinetry, uncleaned sites, faulty water connections, and a poorly installed recycling water system.

The most concerning issues involved the flooring. The upstairs floorboards squeaked incessantly, while the downstairs felt unstable. Although they addressed the master bedroom squeaking, other areas remain untouched. My emails about these problems have gone unanswered.

Even more frustrating was an issue with the lights on the front pillars, which short-circuited in the rain due to their poor waterproofing—a basic oversight.

While Metricon initially sent someone to assess the problems, their solutions have been inadequate, and many issues persist, including repeated attempts to fix the cabinetry that remain unresolved.

========== Conclusion ==========

Overall, my experience with ABC Homes and Metricon has been a disappointment, rating no more than 3 out of 5 stars. What may be just another project for them has been a significant life event for me. Their focus on speed and cost-cutting came at the expense of quality.

If you’re considering a build, I recommend sticking to ABC Homes' smaller designs, where Metricon seems to perform better. However, be cautious of the enticing prices, as they often come with compromises on quality.

If I were to build again, I would certainly avoid Metricon. The initial sales experience might have been acceptable, but everything that followed fell short. I wish I had opted for a custom builder who could provide more personalized attention and care. My experience has left much to be desired, and I can’t recommend Metricon or ABC Homes based on what I’ve encountered.

and no cook top , the items I told to finish few weeks earlier not finish to clean the garage still dirty, trying to talk to the supervisor is like taking to a wall we got in circles insist in on way, now after sent email to the office trying to call the supervisor no one answering. sticks out like a sore thumb, yet getting the builder to acknowledge and fix this has been an absolute battle.Instead of replacing the incorrect panel with a new, matching piece, their solution is to play "musical chairs" with my roof. They have offered to take a matching sheet from the side of my house to fix the front, and move the non-matching sheet to the side where it is less visible.This lazy, band-aid fix is completely unacceptable for a brand-new build. I expected a much higher standard of professionalism and workmanship. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere if you expect quality service and a cohesive finish on your home.

really helped speed up the process and ensured there were no misunderstandings. She was professional, efficient, and an absolute pleasure to deal with.

However, during the pre-site stage, a significant issue occurred. Someone had illegally dumped bricks, cement, wood, etc., on my site. This waste came from a neighbouring Metricon build, which was extremely frustrating. I attempted to clear as much as I could myself, but it was far beyond what I could manage. The bricks were cemented together in a large pile, and this issue caused a two-week delay. The site manager for the neighbouring build, [Name Removed] from the Dandenong branch, was responsible. At that point, I was seriously considering taking legal action against both [Name Removed] and Metricon. Fortunately, the situation was turned around by [Name Removed], my site manager.

[Name Removed] handled everything perfectly and impressed me the most throughout the entire process. He went above and beyond by personally removing all the dumped materials and leveling my land. His professionalism and dedication were outstanding—I’m honestly surprised he isn’t already a construction manager.

Thanks to [Name Removed], what could have been a very negative experience was resolved professionally and efficiently. Everything was handled well through to completion, and I’m very happy with the final build and the overall timeline.

You see building a home is all about trust, you're building a home which you will have to pay off for the next 30 years because you trust that it's going to secure you and your family's future. It's a place that's a safe zone for you and your children a place they can always count on. No matter what happens in life they trust that if everything goes terrible they always have that nest of support they can rely on. Building a home is truly a once in a lifetime experience where you just want your builder to do what they promised, with standard and grace.

I lost all my trust in Metricon after that dumping, and if it weren't for [Name Removed] I never would have regained the confidence I now have in Metricon. Metricon's team is amazing, every person that I deal with every step of the way, I shouldn't judge the integrity of the company because of one rotten egg. [Name Removed] has made me so confident in Metricon that if I were to ever build a property again or recommend to anyone else I know Metricon will be first in mind.

Also [Name Removed] my building support co ordinator was very great, to he point and I had no problems during my time with [Name Removed]. Though remember if it weren’t for [Name Removed] efforts, my rating of Metricon would have been very different.

Overall, if I was the head of HR at Metricon I would definitely give [Name Removed] a promotion and make sure no other company takes away such a great person/asset. It was a bit of a roller coaster, but at least I got my happily ever after.w

Savina is incredible. She was there providing support every step of the way and as first time builders and homeowners it’s was exactly what we needed. that we had. The site was always kept clean and neat, showing a well managed team. The finish and workmanship of the build is above standard. We have received many comments on the quality of the build from both industry professionals and friends/relatives. It was clear to see that our Site Supervisor had built a good relationship with his trades, which was reflected not only in the workmanship/finish of the build but in the speed in which our defects were rectified. We are in love with our home and could not have asked for a smoother build experience. We would highly recommend Metricon and specifically the ABC Homes team at Robina.

Communication is terrible, accounts receivable officer is a bully, invoices issued without explanation and don’t make sense, offer no communication, don’t get back to requests and concerns, copy and paste clauses to bully you if you can’t understand (things like plaster done before bricks, and lockup invoice issued before bricks are finished)… Read more

But that’s just not how they roll.

Expect anxiety provoking and antagonistic responses to genuine concerns and any excuse to charge more… they’ll take it.

build even reached site start. I didn’t understand why council requirements were not clearly explained, and it often felt like the team didn’t understand what was needed.

Two particularly frustrating experiences were with [Name Removed] (Pre-Site Manager) and [Name Removed] (Building Support Co-ordinator). The communication and support during that stage were extremely disappointing and added unnecessary stress to the process.

However, despite all of that, everything changed once construction began and [Name Removed] stepped in.

[Name Removed] made my life so much simpler. He was very responsive, very reliable, and clear in his communication. At one stage, I was told by [Name Removed] (Building Support Co-ordinator) that I couldn’t visit my own home until it was completed — even though I was paying for it. That was very upsetting. But [Name Removed] personally messaged me and said, “Mate, no — just book an appointment with me and we can go see it anytime you want. Let me know when you’d like to go.”

That level of professionalism and respect meant a lot.

Despite my earlier experience with the admin team, [Name Removed] was always encouraging and motivating. He made the process smooth and much easier for me to get the house completed. I can honestly say that without [Name Removed] on my team during this process, I may not have finished the build.

At one point, I had promised myself I would never build with Metricon again. But [Name Removed] changed my mind. I guess one bad apple doesn’t ruin the whole tree — and [Name Removed] is that 1% in Metricon who truly gets the job done.

I highly recommend [Name Removed] to anyone building with Metricon. If I build more homes in the future, I will always make sure [Name Removed] is managing the project — otherwise, I won’t proceed.

[Name Removed], thank you so much for everything you did. You made my life easier and helped me finalise my investment property professionally and properly. Metricon is lucky to have someone like you building homes for their clients. I’m sure many other clients would say the same about you.

Words can’t fully explain how grateful I am for your support and for ensuring my home was completed to a high standard.

site manager promptly had them rectified and has maintained a clear and open line of communication with us. Regular site visits, photo updates and phone calls. We are so excited seeing our dream home come to life, we are so happy with our choice of builder. If you on the fence I recommend you jump on over, we dont regret it one bit.

up until 3 weeks ago when we had a plumbing system block and sewage was coming up through our 6yr olds shower stall.. i IMMEDIATELY uploaded a request for repairs as urgent but this happened on a Sunday evening and with raw sewage coming up into the home that smelt extremely bad and very toxic for our children we were forced to call an emergency plumber to immediately address the issue. Investigation from plumber was there was a huge build up of solidified paint in the pipes.. so the painters when painting our home washed their brushes and tools down the holes in the floor prior to toilet installation and due to no constant running water caused the paint to dry up in the pipe. Blockage was fixed and we paid $3280 out of pocket mistakenly under the impression due to the nature of the emergency we would be reimbursed by abc/metricon.. WOW WAS I MISTAKEN!!! It took 3 days before our service and warranty agent called us back telling us they would not honour the reimbursement because we didn’t follow correct procedures. Now if we had of waited until they could be bothered contacting up back we would have a home covered in raw toilet sewage.. not to mention the water worms in the toilet bowl GROSS… I challenged then asking how I was supposed to address the emergency without an emergency contact on our portal for out of office hours. And BOOM our portal to report issues shockingly goes out of action.. we have 19 days left on our 90 day service and warranty period and after 15+ emails asking for our portal to be reinstated we are told nothing except that no service requests will be accepted after May 16th… [Name Removed] is our service and warranty contact and I would probably have a better chance contacting Elvis directly before I heard from her.

The home we have is amazing, we are very happy with what we have as long as small defaults and issues are addressed before our service and warranty runs out.

But due to the disregard to my families health and safely in the home these people built for us that cost $1.1m I would 100% NEVER RECOMMEND BUILDING WITH ABC/METRICON… as soon as they got money they have throw us in the bin and don’t give a cr#p anymore.
