We wanted outdoor automated blinds that were insect proof and reduced rain and wind into an alfresco area at the back of our house in Sydney. We used AOL as they came to us with all samples to choose blinds and discussed options. We got free install and discounted pricing. One of the most professional companies I have dealt with. Bought our blinds mostly for the Western sun but the amount of rain they keep out due to the quality is exceptional. Has transformed out outdoor area. Our last lot of blinds didn't block out anywhere near the elements as these do. Show reply

Photos post storm below. Price was comparable to other main steam suppliers a bit on the pricey side compared to more independent suppliers but quality and installstion was different. The lead time is around 6-8 weeks.

have attached his blind lasted us less than 2 years. We have had Australian outdoor living blind now since January. It has never been up as it is there to protect our car from the northern sunlight. And as you can see it still looks perfect. Yes it was more expensive but the quality is much higher. We live in the back streets of Gymea Bay on a main road. I am obviously not going to reveal my address but it is visible from the road if anyone is in the area and wants to do a driveby. afternoon. The problem was fixed in no time and he had also check the remaining for blinds. He noticed one of the seals wasn't sitting as flush as the others, something we did not even pick up ourselves. He went out to his truck got a new one and replaced it without even asking . Can only say our experience so far has been totally amazing

in-person contact was with Craig - an excellent salesman. Not a bit pushy; but he didn’t need to be - his superior product sold itself! Grant in South Australia was most helpful answering some of our enquiries. Denise and Jamie in the office were always there when we needed to change our install date due to our external floor tilers running late. We were exasperated and apologetic about the two delayed starts, but it was no trouble for them. Cisco, the installer, was the perfect tradesman. Very respectful of our new floor tiling; excellent at his job; took care to ensure the install was exactly to the plan - to the mm !! - and cleaned up and took the packing away on completion. We got quotes from 3 companies- and the other 2 had pushy, snake-oil type salesmen (no one likes that!) and they both pressured us to sign up there and then. But their product was rubbish - flimsy metal, very ugly, wouldn’t last, and wasn’t a patch compared to Australian Outdoor Living’s stunning kitchen. Yes, we paid a little more for our kitchen, but it was not much more than the cost of the inferior, flimsy, ugly ones. Australian Outdoor Living’s quality is not just superior, but simply outstanding! Our stunning kitchen will outlast any other company’s outdoor kitchen and continue to look impressive. wouldn’t come out. This is literally the only company I’ve ever dealt with that mandates this just to provide a quote.
2) No final price unless you’re “ready”. They’ll show you an RRP, but won’t tell you the actual price unless you declare you’re “ready” to buy. This phrase gets repeated constantly during the visit.
3) The vague Black Friday sale. I asked what the discount was. They couldn't tell me unless I was “ready” and committed to a final mesh colour. The discount is supposedly based on “whatever they have in the factory they’re trying to clear.” Cool, so I offered two colours we were considering. Still couldn’t tell me the price. Why not just say, “These colours are discounted because we have excess stock”? That kind of transparency actually helps customers make decisions quicker. Even if it’s a lie, it's still better than their current tactic.
4) The classic “call the manager” move. The consultant randomly called someone to say, “I’m at X job, RRP is $XXX,” while sitting in front of us. Not sure if this is meant to create pressure, but it just felt awkward. Surely this could happen in the car afterwards?
5) Refusal to communicate pricing by email or phone. He made a point of telling me they do not send quotes electronically. Only in person. If I changed my colour choice later, he’d have to drive back out again to tell me the price. It’s 2025. This isn’t efficient, it’s bizarre.
6) No proper quote provided. Despite taking full measurements, colour notes, and sketching everything on an A4 sheet, I didn’t get an itemised quote. Because I wasn’t “ready,” I received a business card with a rough price scribbled on it.
7) Big claims, zero documentation. Consultant said their product is “the second best on the market behind Luxaflex,” has “the smallest headbox,” and “the toughest mesh in Australia.” But none of this was backed up with specs, brochures, or product sheets. Competitors happily provide detailed documentation, with these guys I had to flip through the guy’s binder myself to find anything.
Why wouldn’t you give customers a simple handout explaining your product?
Overall: Easily the strangest sales/quoting process I’ve encountered as a homeowner. Even if they came in the cheapest, I wouldn’t go ahead, the lack of transparency and pressure tactics were enough of a red flag on their own.

Salesperson intentionally scratched our car on her way back to her car because we refused to make a decision whether we wanted to buy the blinds or not. changed. The person changed when she had my husband starting to fill out the paper-work to write down our contact details, which then turned into the paperwork to complete an order. I stopped this straight away when I realised she was tricking my husband. I am going to report this company to Fair Trading and those who have had a bad experience need to do the same. The product arrived quick and so far, seems good quality and we’re happy (3 months in). We did our own comparison with price and did find them to be inline and with better guarantees and a solid track record.
