Pre-approval means nothing. Avoid!!
We sort pre approval prior to making an offer on a place which was approved after submitting all our financials and formal bank valuations. We decided to place a deposit on a place that was $45k cheaper than our pre approval and this was valued at the purchase price.
Nothing changed except for more income and the formal approval was declined. Still a strong chance we won’t see our deposit.
Unethical and lacks integrity. Plenty of other lenders. I would avoid this one.
Welcome to 1980 banking
Terrible bank, moved to them when refinancing, was purchasing another property. Called up to ask how I go about doing a transfer of 100k they said on the day call up and you can up your transfer limit. On the day I did this but they said this cannot happen as when they setup my digital banking they did a password reset in error.
No way to override this and can’t up my limit more than 20k for months. I have to go into a branch to transfer. The closest branch is in Sydney cbd I’m not allowed to go more than 5km due to Covid lockdown. There is n...othing we can do. So how do I get my money to the solicitor to settle the property. No other option, I have to go into the bank or fill in a form and email it to them which will take 15 days to transfer the money.
Taking your money as daylight robbery in fees - the most appalling company values - they do not give a damn about you
In week 13 of lockdown in Sydney, my small business has been affected and I’m having to pivot left and right and change up my business and try and get on top of outgoings, while also innovating everything to be online (I know this is a bulk of businesses). While I do this I have changed the way I’m banking and keeping my money in another account to my main on, so I can pay rent and buy groceries and ensure I can survive, so the money doesn’t get taken up unexpectedly by auto-debits. (Yes time are that tough.) Bankwest however takes $10 every ti...me the account goes into minus ***even if it is for 1hr*** Then the account does go into overdraft I rectify it with sometimes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 hours the same day and sometimes a few very very short hours. This doesnt matter. Bankwest happily admit the $10 fee is by an automated computer and happens immediately. Zero understanding for case to case details, zero understanding for pandemics and the impact on their clients and small businesses that need help right now. Zero understanding of grey areas. I have banked with BankWest since 2009, now 2021 - 12 years and they don’t care, they keep taking these $10 fees out. It’s daylight robbery. It’s not a small fee. And 99% of time I rectify the account very quickly. GET THIS TOO: BankWest send a text message saying “we’re trying to debit from your account please deposit money by x time, so we can process the payment.” I have deposited the money every time, on time and yet I still get the fee every time. ******If you can automate a text message and the processing of payments by a certain time than you can change the time that a dishonour fee comes out giving people a grace period until that time. You chose not to. You chose to take the fee from loyal clients immediately. It is a choice!!!!!!!! I’m not suggesting that there should be no dishonour fee. I understand if people do the wrong thing there needs to be a charge. But the system fundamentally doesn’t work right now and you dont give a damn to change it!!!! If you give me a time via text to get the money in and I do get the money in by that time than there should no be a fee involved because I’ve done what you want and need.
Unacceptable phone banking
47 minutes on the phone (and counting) waiting to speak to someone. All I’m waiting for is a payout figure. One figure!! Unacceptable. Can’t wait to move my business elsewhere!!!!
Gotten worse and worse
I joined Bankwest in 2010. It had excellent customer service, and real branches in NSW then. Now they have closed all their branches and you have to wait at least 30min on hold on the phone to do anything of importance. The staff are now FAR less professional, for instance use your first name by default whereas in the branch and over the phone they used to address you properly. I have had to call them for 2 separate reasons in the last few weeks, and both times the staff have given me completely incorrect advice which has wasted my time. It feels like you are calling centrelink now.
I have no idea where to start. It’s Bankpest not bankwest. Sending money to New Zealand from Australia turned to an absolute nightmare for me. Bankpest failed to deliver its promises & here I am after 2 weeks my money is missing still $5k is no where to seen. Bankpest customer relation is the worse. They just providing wrong informations non stop. It’s an absolute disgusting service with a lowest moral ever. They simply stolen my money & not caring about their honest & hard working customers. They are racist & discriminating against certain peo...ple. Today is two weeks since I transfer $5k to new zealand for my niece which according to Bankpest meant to only take 3 to 5 working business days. Thanks bankpest for your great customer service & looking after your hard working , innocent ,honest & genuine customer. Shame on you for destroying people dreams & excitements just because they carrying muslim names. Shame on you still in 21st century under name of security, you targeting & discriminate normal ordinary citizen. Shame on you. I was hoping to send money for this innocent little girl which me as her uncle due to covid wasn’t able to visit her for two years, shame on you Bankpest to ruined our little excitement.
Perfect customer service
I have been with them for 5 years.
They helped me get a refund for a purchase made via credit card that the vendor refused to refund. Never really needed help from their customer service but they came through when needed.
Very poor service. Don't like us to call them for any loan or mortgage. They want us to contact agents. Poor customer service. 30 minutes to pick up a call.
Worst bank ever
Changes accounts without consent. Excessive interest rates. Few branches. Repeatedly given customer service reps who are on holidays. Grossly undervalues property. Had to go to Banking Ombudsman over their behaviour
Nothing ever works
Applied for a car loan back in 2019, wasted an hour going through the application process only to be knocked back for no reason given so got finance somewhere else. And trying to set up automatic payments is impossible, sometimes it makes payments other times it decides not too (also for no reason given) so bills have to be paid manually like the dark ages.
Had loads of other issues with this lot and everytime I want to do anything banking related I get anxiety knowing that there's a problem with ABSOLUTELY NO EXPLANATION!
If possible please stay away
Takes at least an hour or more to talk to someone in customer care, doesn't matter which day or time of day you call. Bank would not provide clear details on the loan settlement and the transactions logged for settlement are so unclear that it would not be possible to decode. Call them and get dropped in between after waiting 45mins. Payment limits are also very silly, OSKO restricted to $5000 per day and pay anyone restricted to $20,000, total transfer limit of 20k only per day including osko.. Other banks are doing around $50k and $100k transfer limit. Why cant this bank increase the limits?, except for home loan interest rates, nothing else is good about. Service response times is big 0.
Wow. Just wow.
So I have had a good run with this bank until I decided to move my business account to them. Firstly, they did not accept a scanned in copy of my signature on a form, they needed me to sign the form and scan it in. This is EXACTLY the same thing - I assume they have someone non-tech savvy spouting out garbage at HQ. For anyone without antiquated technology, do NOT sign up to this bank for business purposes. Further, I've been trying to get them to stop sending me mail because the mailboxes on the street have been getting mail stolen - Bankw...est would not stop despite my asking, and I just found an opened bank statement in my street. So for security they won't accept a digital signature unless it is low quality, but they are happy to send your personal information to an unsecured mailbox. I will perhaps remove this review if they ever stop sending me bank statements, but my information/finance is already public now anyway. UPDATE: I paid for the form to be printed and scanned just as they instructed, and I again got knocked back due to them apparently not having my signature - like you can open a bank account without a signature. So they've now made me waste money and more time. Time to change banks!
This CEO couldn't run a bath! Once it became Commbank's crap it became garbage! Untrustworthy, rubbish website, long phone queues. Exhausted staff (but polite).
Don't bother! Go straight to parent Bank - Commbank
Great until its not
Fine enough until you are stuck having to call them for anything, then you need a few weeks leave saved up to wait so you can wait on hold until you get through to someone.
Wanted to transfer some money. My own money. But there is a limit. They asked me to call which I did. Left me there waiting for 45minutes listening to their stupid as. Then wanted to increase the limit for just one hour (we're not talking millions here, just a few thousand). Wanted to know to whom and why. That's not their business isn't it?
I was going to be late for work. Then their BPAY system would not find the correct receiver. (GESB).
Eventually gave up. Am now using another bank. Never agin with this mob.

BankWest is the most secretive and obstructive organisation I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. I have asked the bank on a number of occasions and been fobbed off. This bank has lied, obstructed, misinformed on a simple attempt to have an additional card issued. Every time I have followed the directions given the goal posts have been moved. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BANK.
