This is our second Bosch drier. The first was great until the pump failed. That one we bought the extended product warranty from the store so was fixed under that at just under 5 years from memory. The second one is now just over 5y old and guess what… service people say it sounds like another pump fail and the cost of repair likely $500. After over a week no reply from Bosch mediation. Need to move on and get something that works. Show details

Do not purchase a Bosch heat pump dryer. The self-cleaning condenser is a faulty design and does not self clean. That’s why these heat pump driers stop drying. Purchased in October 2020. It needed its first repair due to no longer drying (disassembly to clean the condenser of the accumulated lint) in April 2024. It has needed its second repair in… Read more

July 2025. It was supposedly a return 4 days after picking it up. They picked up two 2.5 weeks ago and said the earliest they can return it is in 1 week. Terrible warranty service.

The problem is that the supposedly self-cleaning condenser is a faulty design and eventually gets clogged. That’s why it stops drying altogether. The tell tale sign is that the towels stop coming out completely dry.

The filters are cleaned on every cycle.

The repair person said both times that it is not a no-service item despite the claim. I’d have bought a condenser dryer (previous one lasted 16 years before the element burnt out) instead if I knew it would need regular repair. At least with a condenser dryer, the condenser is a serviceable item in that you can remove it to clean it.

I will be seeking a refund the next time it fails because it is false advertising stating it is a self-cleaning condenser when it is not. They made it a non-serviceable item because of that claim. The dryer needs disassembly to clean the lint that clogs it. I stupidly repaired under extended warranty last time so it is not in Bosch’s records. Otherwise, we’d have been discussing an alternative to repair.

For their top model dryer to only last 3.5 years until it no longer dried due to failure of a non-serviceable part is unacceptable.

Superb product – This is a high quality dryer and is worth the price. It dries a load in 1 hour that used to take out conventional dryer over 2 hours to do. As expected from Bosch Series 8, exceptional quality. Show details

Perfect for apartment living and our bathroom/laundry set up – I've always been a bit reluctant about using a dryer in Australia and do so mostly when we can't make use of the balcony in our apartment due to wet weather or high humidity. The reason we purchased this dryer was because we have a pending arrival and expect a lot of washing and drying to take place in the first 6-12 months, which I'm doubtful… Read more ·  1

will dry quick enough on a balcony in cooler months. And we've now had this dryer for a week, and even with the weather as warm as it has been in Sydney, it's been an absolute delight to have and use.

It's a highly functional dryer, does what it should and with a myriad of drying options I feel so spoilt. It's beautifully designed, sturdy and stacks beautifully on top of the matching Bosch front loader we also purchased. Our clothes, sheets and towels come out beautifully fluffy and soft (much better than they did when using the communal unit block dryer - yuck!) and I'm really looking forward to giving this dryer a good run for its money once bub arrives.

Very happy with this purchase (and so is hubby - he wants to use all the time!) and it's the perfect additional to our combined bathroom and laundry space in our apartment. It's especially fantastic as traditional dryers need ventilation outside. Heat pump dryers such as this one don't need a heat vent which is wonderful for us!

Waste of hard earned money! I purchased this dryer WTW87564AU from an online retailer January 2020, as I wanted a dryer that would be better for the environment and on energy and a large capacity for our clothes. Also it seemed to have smart features to adjust different loads etc. Seemed to work fine for the first 5 years, but the loads were… Read more

taking longer and longer and I would have to re-do loads as they were not dry.

Recently there was a metallic noise coming from the dryer. So we put less and less of a load in it.

On the 1/5/2025 the dryer has sheared off the centre plastic knob thing in the middle of drum. Upon investigation in the rear of dryer, there were multiple metal parts from behind the drum from around the centre bearing. Now this is only 5 years old and completely rooted.

This has been a disappointment having spend a lot of money on this dryer and now we have a piece of scrap metal. Bosch should be embarrassed about this dryer and how it has failed to delivery a quality product.

Now my family is faced with the extra cost of purchasing another dryer unit to get us through the winter.

This review went to mediation for 15 days for Bosch to reply, but they did not contact me regarding this dryer. Obviously they know this model is faulty and didn't want to assist us with any remediation.

Worst ‘Drier’ Ever – The absolute worst product I have ever owned. Do not buy unless you want to spend over 5 hours to half dry a load of washing. Regret this purchase Every. Single. Day! Photo below is another ‘hour’ long cycle for 5 standard towels that have already been in for 3hours!

Not like other dryers the room stays dry – On the right top corner , there is a box you need to pull it out empty the water. Or simply connect the provided hose from the machine to sink. Sportswear. Option will dry the cloths completely in 1 hour and 10 minutes . I don’t like the other options since are runs for longer time . Show details

Best clothes dryer I’ve ever owned – While this clothes dryer took a little bit of getting used to I am now in love and will only ever purchase a pump dryer in the future. accomodate a full washers worth of clothing, or or KS doona or a full set of KS bedding. The ability to set a dried level for your clothing is impressive. We use the robe setting which means clothes come out slightly steaming - you think they’re still damp but the excess moisture soon evaporates. Most clothes can simply come out of the dryer and be folded or hung and my ironing needed is now minimal. This damp feeling took a bit to get used to but it’s now my favourite thing about the dryer. It’s almost like magic once your brain gets used to it! It dries everything from delicate lace curtains to heavy denim jeans to perfection. The lint catcher is easy to access at the front of the dryer and easy to clean as well. We had an issue where the dryer wouldn’t turn on not long after purchase, but the Bosch people were great to deal with and our issue was fixed under warranty no questions asked. The technician was knowledgeable and even spent time showing me that we have the dryer set up incorrectly for water collection/draining. Its very quiet when in use and theres no heat or condensation build up in our laundry either. Bosch AND pump dryers have won me over for life.

great dryer – at first it wouldn't dry clothes completely, but after a few days trying different cycles it worked very well. Have owned now for almost a year. After a decade with a budget dryer that was starting to show its age, we decided to treat ourselves to a Bosch as a more premium option rather than repairing our old faithful. extra time or even a second cycle to get things properly dry.

Now, just 2–3 months out of the two-year warranty, it's taking hours to dry even modest loads. Towels and bedding take so long that I often lose track—it usually stretches into the next day.

For a premium product to decline so soon after the warranty expires is really disappointing. And to make matters worse, the machine’s design doesn’t allow us to manually clean the condenser or internal components—something that could potentially fix the issue.

At this point, I’d struggle to recommend a Bosch dryer of any model. Bosch really needs to rethink its product design. Even if they promote it as “self-cleaning,” customers should still have the option to access and clean internal parts—especially if the product doesn't perform as reliably as Bosch seems to believe it will.

We watched a utube video on how to clean it out - not good enough Bosch we paid up to have a great dryer and ended up with this dryer not fit for purpose. I am devestated and as we cannt afford a new dryer am left with this piece of rubbish that ony dries on Cotton and over dries everything therefore can really only use it for towels and sheets ( or though sheets end up in a ball and not dried). Bosch tells me that this dryer taking more than 10 hours to dry one load is functioning correctly – I have had this dryer for almost 2 years. It performed as expected until a few weeks ago. In a load up to 9kg most of the time it dried the first time on a cotton setting. Lately it has to be run 3 times to get dry. If I set it to the warm setting it completes in 4-6 hours. Another disappointed consumer having the same issues – The review by “Horlicks” really rings true for me. I’m currently in the process of having to deal with Bosch in relation to this dryer and I’ve had many of the same issues - there being only 3 useful settings, the balling (I also tried dryer balls and towels- the balls never worked and the towels worked sometimes) and it now takes 8-9 hours on… Read more

“timed warm” to dry a load of 5 towels. I can’t use any other setting as they just stop after 2-3 hours and everything is still wet and the clothes are barely warm. I got the repairers out (the dryer was one year out of warranty) and I was told probably the compressor had gone - apparently the repairer sees a lot of similar issues with this dryer and I was told to contact Bosch. I did a bit of research on this website and on dryers generally and for a “premium” product this dryer obviously falls far short of expectations. I contacted Bosch and gave them all that information and after about a week Bosch called me and said that they would repair it even though it was out of warranty. The job was given to the initial repairer who then told me they had to come out and do more tests. After they had already tested the unit at the first visit. They came and took some readings and told me they would send the results to Bosch and I should have a result in the next few days. A week later they called me and said Bosch needs them to come out and do MORE readings. That third visit is due this afternoon. They blamed it on Bosch needing more information. At this point I’m unsure if it is in fact Bosch or just the repairer making lots more money for more visits. Meanwhile I’m paying goodness knows what in electricity costs for 8-9 hours per load (nowhere to dry large items outside) and the laundry is continuing to pile up. I loved my Bosch dishwasher but wish I had never bought this dryer. I agree that it is a flawed design - I understand that Bosch have since changed their design so that the drum alternates direction and I hope they have fixed other issues too but I don’t see myself ever buying another Bosch dryer. I will see what happens with today’s appointment and it it does not solve the issue I will also be approaching the statutory authority to lodge a complaint.

Serious design flaws and should NEVER be marketed – I was a loyal Bosch customer for over a decade, owning multiple kitchen and laundry appliances and recommending the brand to others. However, my experience with the Bosch Series 8 Heat Pump Dryer WTW87564AU has been nothing short of disappointing. Firstly, the dryer's design is fundamentally flawed. The claim of 'self-cleaning' for the condenser… Read more

is misleading, as it requires costly maintenance by a technician, unlike other Bosch models that allow for user cleaning. This lack of transparency regarding ongoing maintenance costs is unacceptable. I am sure many customers, myself included, would not have purchased this dryer if we were aware of the ongoing costly maintenance essential for efficient drying.

Secondly, the drum's inability to reverse rotate leads to tangled and damp laundry, requiring constant manual intervention. Despite having 14 drying programs, only a few are effective, with most failing to dry clothes adequately. The only effective ones were 'Towels', 'Cottons' or 'Time Program Warmed'. The 'Wool Finish' cycle has a default setting of 6 minutes, and in my experience, inadequate to dry even a single woollen top.

Furthermore, Bosch's customer service has been appalling. Instead of addressing my concerns, they dismissed them, citing my supposed lack of understanding of the dryer and rejecting my request for a service technician, insisting that the dryer was performing within specifications. It took escalating the issue many months to get a technician to conduct a full assessment. I called outside Bosch's regular working hours when they are managed by more obliging contractors, to secure a technician's appointment.

The technician was the only person willing to listen to my issues and did a full and thorough investigation. He found no fault with the condenser, filter, sensor, airflow, temperature, etc. He agrees the lint filters were maintained impeccably as I washed both lint filters every second day and dried them overnight. He agrees it should not take over 4 hours to have damp clothes. Consequently, he replaced the motherboard which reduces drying time to ~2 hours, which is reasonable and acceptable for a heat pump dryer. I suspect many customers have been supplied with dryers installed with faulty motherboards, which is challenging to diagnose, as confirmed by the technician. Despite having a new circuit board, bedsheets remained damp after 6 hours due to balling. After debating with the technician I tried all methods such as including drying balls and adding a towel, he finally admitted this was due to the drum being designed to spin one way only, and there was nothing he could do to address this. Such information was not detailed in the service report.

Bosch denies receipt of the service reports. I contacted the supplier (Appliances Online) and ended up going around in circles without a deadline provided for the reports. The technician confirmed the reports were sent to Bosch 3 days after completion of the service and he even received payment for the job. He provided a copy of the report which I immediately forwarded to Appliances Online, but communication ceased with the team member. I escalated the refund request to their team leader and was advised he was waiting for an update from Bosch.

As Bosch and Appliances Online have never committed a time frame for the refund, I complained to the Office of Fair Trading, citing the dryer is not fit for purpose. Following intervention from the OFT (phone call on 19/3 at 4 pm), I received an email from Bosch the next day (20/3 at 10.30 am) authorising a full refund. AO collected the dryer on 21/3 (8.30 am). Though I am still waiting for the refund, I was amazed by how quickly things progressed with the involvement of the relevant authority.

Update (April) I received a full refund for the dryer as the Office of Fair Trading agrees the dryer is not fit for purpose. He quoted “A dryer is supposed to dry clothes and that includes bedsheets. I agree this dryer does not dry clothes and is not fit for purpose.” I urge everyone having the same issue to familiarise themselves with the Australian Consumer Law and use the knowledge to get a rightful refund. Appliances these days are not built to last and I never need to file any warranty claim before 2024 but ended up doing claims for every Bosch appliance purchased at the end of 2022 from the beginning of this year. Make sure your complaint to the OFT is as comprehensive as possible and back up your point with plenty of evidence.

It doesn't dry properly. Period. Don't buy it – This dryer doesn't dry - particularly for small to medium loads. IT'S AS SIMPLE AS THAT. The clothes come out damp or very damp because it terminates the drying cycle prematurely. This occurs for 9 out of 10 loads. We got sick of hanging clothes on chairs and running the fireplace to dry them in the living room. Here's why it doesn't work: They… Read more

use a moisture sensor which relies on the clothes slapping it as they tumble so it can "feel" the moisture. If you're drying a light or medium load, the clothes don't touch it very often (or not at all). The dryer deems there's no moisture, and terminates the drying cycle.

We requested Bosch investigate the issue and they sent a technician to our home twice. Each time the result was "no fault found". Of course there's "no fault found" from a technician's point of view. The machine passes their tests but the design is not fit for purpose and doesn't dry. The technician didn't know what to say when he visited us. His suggestion was to put the clothes back in again once or twice. The look on his face indicated "not this again" meaning he's had to explain away the issues on many previous occasions to other customers. Crazy.

Department of Fair Trading were a waste of time. We approached Appliances Online directly and they understood situation, so they refunded us once we spoke to the customer service manager (after some time wasting from one of the customer service team).

I can't say the same for Bosch. They steadfastly refused to authorise a refund because they claimed the dryer was not faulty, Their customer service department didn't even bother escalating the issue. They just towed the corporate line and refused a refund.

All other functionality is good. The controls are easy to use. The drain kit worked well. The dryer generates plenty of heat and is not noisy. It has a sizeable selection of programs, the display is easy to read and the drum is illuminated. These are all good features. If it dried the clothes, we wouldn't have an issue with it. Unfortunately that's it's sole task and it can't do it.

We're very happy with Appliances Online and will buy another dryer from them but never again will we buy a Bosch.

--------------------------------- UPDATE OCT 2023 ----------------------- Bosch agreed to refund us the cost of the washing machine in full (the price we bought it for). They understood it was very important for us to have a matched set and we inured further expense by buying a washer/dryer pair from another vendor. Although they didn't do this for the dryer (Appliances Online refunded us), we greatly appreciate the fact they understood our situation and accommodated us. We're happy to say we will buy more Bosch appliances but not a Bosch dryer !!

Don't buy Bosch - their warranty service is rubbish – Up until this dryer failed it worked reasonably well, noting that it won't dry small loads or single items - the moisture sensor can't seem to detect when these are still wet. We didn't have issues with sheets rolling into balls or the other complaints that people sometimes post about heat pump dyers in general. I also found the dryer a bit loud -… Read more

probably about as loud as our previous cheap conventional dryer.

The dryer failed after 11 months and the experience of trying to get Bosch to repair it has been absolutely awful. From the error codes, they apparently know what's wrong with it and know what replacement parts it needs. Unfortunately, these parts are not available and have not arrived in the timeframe that Bosch promised. Still, Bosch doesn't really know where these parts are or when they will arrive. Fed up with not having a dryer and being messed around by Bosch, I requested a replacement dryer. At first the Bosch operator told me that the warranty was for service and repair only. When I reminded him of the Australian Consumer Law, he switched to saying that they don't really know what's wrong with it after all, and maybe it's not a major failure and they couldn't be sure it was major failure until they sent a technician to look at it. When asked when a technician could come to determine if it was a major failure they refused to send one, or even make a booking, until the spare parts arrive at some future unknown time. It also became apparent through this service call that the operator doesn't have the greatest interpersonal skills and maybe shouldn't be the one who has to pick up the phone to unhappy customers.

After getting advice from my state's consumer protection body, I'm now following up a remedy through the seller, Appliances Online, so I guess I'll see how that goes. All the appliances in our kitchen and laundry are Bosch but now I know that their service department is about as good as one of those cheap brands nobody's ever heard of before, I certainly won't be buying any other Bosch appliances.

He then told me to set the dryer on cottons, set the drying level to the three suns and the drying target to the closet + (hottest settings) for everything, which works as long as you have a full load but if you need a couple of things dried or a single shirt for work then you may as well wear it wet. If the drier only works on a full load and only on the settings the technician told me to use are all the other settings just for show. I feel Bosch must be an environment conscious company that’s all about global warming. The company build products that use the electricity grids that are blamed for global warming but then they don’t work as they should so you wait for a sunny day don’t use them.

Mostly dries things very nicely – We normally put cottons or everyday wear or towels or sheets in our dryer. The 'cottons' cycle is our most widely used cycle, followed by 'towels' and then a 20-30 minutes warm timed cycle. I find things get more dry with the 'towels' cycle compared to the cottons cycle - but you can also change your cycles so that cottons dries more. I don't want… Read more

cottons too hot because I don't want shrunken everyday wear! I like that this machine is a bit intuitive and adapts to your usage. I use 'towels' when I want it hotter. It also dries faster. This is our second Bosch condenser dryer, and we're mostly very happy with it. We are a family of 5 with 3 active kids, so we use the dryer every day. It does a good job. Probably the only annoying things about it are: - the sheets always end up in a ball. You have to undo them and then put them back in again for 20 mins. BUT unlike our last dryer, even in the ball, oftentimes there's only one thing slightly damp still, as opposed to half the things being rather damp. So it DOES dry most of them, even if they're in a ball! - some items of clothing with drawstrings etc can end up highly coiled and/or tangled (eg singlet tops & dressing gown cords). This tension under heat will ruin the clothing's lifespan. The previous Bosch condenser dryer did not do this either as much or to the same degree as this one. Bosch would do well to fix this problem. Please read my three notes below to see how this machine has fared over 3 years...

Once that was done I checked the water dispenser and not a drop of water in it. slower dry times and residual moisture in heat pump dryers. Having used a condensor dryer, I was use to having a small amount of moisture in the clothing but found after a few minutes airing, they were ready to put away. I researched every brand on the market and sent numerous emails to see if and how quickly they responded because after sales care is just as important as a shiny new machine. I narrowed it down to Lg, Samsung, Electrolux, Miele and Bosch. In the end I bought another Bosch because they weren't distracted by selling and servicing numerous consumer electronics, whilst Electrolux seemed like they didn't care. I have a Miele washer but couldn't justify paying 25% more than a Polish made Bosch with the same warranty. Well the dryer was easy to install and I put in 3 loads today, changed the settings to cotton and cupboard plus and it dried everything perfectly in 2 hours. Yes there are two lint filters to clear, it's a bit noisy with an annoying buzz and I'm worried about not being able to remove the condensor to clean the fins. It also doesn't dry some loads regardless of the setting. Sheets are fine as long as you don't overload the machine and allow room for them to loosely tumble. But it's a well designed, simple to use and effective dryer. Let's seen how it goes over time. By the way, Appliances Online were amazing and delivered the dryer the next day!

Update: the buzzing continued and appliances online replaced the dryer. It now dries! But it over dries and doesn’t sense it’s dry. It’s like they detached the sensor and it just runs. Not perfect but now it least it dries in one go.

Dries really well – I just bought this dryer. I’ve plumbed it into my sink drain. Firstly, I don’t understand all the negative reviews. Based on my experience the dryer works as it’s intended to. I’ve dried all sort of clothes and bed sheets - jeans, t-shirts, socks, etc. Everything has finished the cycle as being ever so slightly damp feeling but as soon as I take… Read more ·  1

the clothes out of the machine everything has dried perfectly. I read the instructions before using and noticed it’s not recommended to shove arm fulls of wet clothes in at the time. Best to add one article at a time to help ensure they tumble around. Also, I have a Miele washing machine with a high spin cycle (1600 rpm) so clothes go in reasonably wrung out. I paid $1440 to Appliances Online who unboxed and took away all the packaging, saving me bin space. I highly recommend this dryer given that it’s so cheap to run. The 9kg capacity works well in a 2 child family, too.

Crap don't buy – Doesn't dry properly. Don't buy if you want to dry bedsheets or anything like bedsheets. Initially didn't work after fixing that we discovered that drying large things ends up in a ball and inner part are wet. Stupid design for what should be good German brand.

Program settings don't dry – I was really looking forward to getting this, but it's very disappointing. The only pre-programmed setting that seems to work in the towel setting, the rest don't dry clothes fully, even at the highest drying choice. It can't seem to detect small loads of delicates, and turns off after about 5 minutes . Also poor design to have the manual timer… Read more

pre-set to 20 minutes, it should be user choice of time for less than that. It doesn't reverse tumble so sheets get snarled up in a ball and don't dry in the middle. Pretty useless for the money.

Does an okay job, but a little disappointing – I've heard lots of good things about the brand, and based on the price point I really thought I was buying something of solid quality. Unfortunately, that's not the case. I mean - it's a dryer, it'll dry stuff sometimes. But not consistently and effortlessly. I've had it for 6 months now and am underwhelmed. When I use a dryer, especially one… Read more

that is marketed as "smart" with a sensor, I don't expect it to tell me to take out my clothes when they are in fact still wet. When you put in a big load of washing, it tends to dry fairly reliably - however if I try to dry a smaller amount of items, they still come out quite wet no matter what I do. I just tried to dry two pairs of pants and the dryer indicated it was done - the pants were still soaking wet; like "just got out of the rain" wet, but really hot. I tried to put them on for another 20 minutes and they came out just as wet, but hotter.

It's better than the very low price combo dryers, yes, but to say you're buying something that will make the job effortless would be a lie. It's okay - it's not great.

Excellent Dryer - Happy I changed from vented! – OK, firstly they are significantly more expensive than vented dryers. You will need to get used to the fact that things don't come out hot and fluffy, clothes can feel damp but once out of the dryer for a few minutes that feeling goes. It will take a bit of experimenting to work out the settings that get your washing dry. I only use about 3… Read more

different settings of the many. Once I got through that I am more than happy I changed over. No more hot/wet laundry, or having to install a vent, no more fluff everywhere (heat pumps still produce some fluff). I think its gentler on the clothes but thats more anecdotal than scientific. The Bosch is much quieter than my previous vented ones and it stacks nicely on top of the Bosch Washing machine I have. I've had an error message in the past but that was easily rectified with a call to their Customer Help line. Very happy with the Bosch.

It does the job perfectly.... also save energy and time – Bosch WTW87564AU 9kg Serie 8 Heat Pump Dryer After all the research I bought this unit and it has been running one and half years without any issues. We use it everyday pretty much as we wash everyday and need to dry them without any hassle. With the busy lifestyle and 2 young kids it's very useful. My wife loves it and we are really happy about the drying performance. It is also very energy efficient. Show details ·  1

Love this machine! Can't live without t during the colder months! – The reason I love this dryer, is it has a built in grey water catch tank, so I can re-use the water in the garden, which we do! I also love that it beeps at me, tells me what needs doing i.e. empty the lint, empty the water catcher. We have ours built into our wardrobe of our main bedroom. , so no windows. This dryer never has condensation build… Read more

up, due to the evaporation tank built in. It drys our clothes gently & also doesnt just spin in one direction. I dont ever worry about our clothes shrinking either!
