100 % – 5 years later and it still makes perfect black crema coffees and hot water on demand. I would have bought this one again of they did not removed it from production. May be it was too good and reliable with very little further sales growth ... I look forward hearing reviews from their new range.. Show details
FANTASTIC COFFEE MAKER! – Makes perfect cappuccino! I have the Breville milk frother too and together they make a great duo. I love the coffee beans from Aldi. There's no filler and the dark roast is just perfect for us. The coffee machine is super easy to clean and every cup is always great. You can change the level of coffee in the filter, and programme the amount of… Read more
water dispensed so the machine can make huge mugs of coffee, or a tiny demitasse and 2 at a time! There's so much variety with this machine. This machine was purchased second hand because our identical machine sadly passed away. I'm a fan of all Breville products. They are ahead of the opposition. Enjoy your coffee, Dianne.
Best espresso maker so far(25 year experience) – I use Breville espresso machines for 25 years, but this latest from the 800 series toppled them all. I had to change my barista habits to get the best out of this machine. I get now superb creamy espresso coffees. Those who give it less then 5 stars have no knowledge or have a faulty machine Show details · 1
Had it for a little over a year, has started leaking terribly – Has made great coffee for the past year or so. Recently though, it has started leaking water out the back, and yesterday it tripped the switch. Out of warranty too so I can't get it repaired :( Sad that such a good machine can be let down by a lack of longevity Good coffee while it lasted Short lived
Machine looks good and makes excellent coffee – Have had my Pro 820 machine for a few years now, was bought for me by restaurant as part of a salary arrangement, I was taught how to make coffee there too :) Recently had a noise in the Italian made water pump and machine was sent to Breville for service, returned back in a week and is now silent again and still making terrific coffee. I use… Read more
'5 senses' beans and grind them as I need to use them. I love the coffee I make at home better than I get when out in 'coffee shops' as they usually 'boil' the milk making it thin and not enjoyably by comparison.
I have 2 x sugar when out but no sugar at home because I can make thick, rich coffee with a nice crema because the machine has the required adjustments built-in. Makes quality coffee - tastes and looks FANTASTIC
Perfect crema – I love this coffee machine. It was bought for me over 2 years ago and it is still going strong! Perfect crema and silky smooth milk is the key to a good coffee and that is what this machine gives. Quick to heat and easy to clean, never had a problem! Quick to heat, excellent milk frother, great crema results. A little bit noisey.. Show reply
Bad – I have contacted Breville. They asked me to make sure I use espresso blend ground for espresso machines. I have tried one from the supermarket pre-ground and still no difference. My last resort is to go to a coffee place and have fresh beans ground. If this doesn't work I'll be sending it back. I use to have a stove top..only cost me $80 and it… Read more
made a perfect cup of coffee without all this fussing around to try and get it right, but had to get rid of it because it kept rusting inside. I am so disppointed I have spent $350 on a machine only to get a watery cup of coffee. I really can't think of a pro for this machine except maybe the fact that you can keep your cups warm on top and the storage tray inside the machine I cannot, no matter how many different ways I have tried to produce a good cup of coffee, get a decent full flavour. It seems too watery.
Excellent – I can't fault this machine at all, as I've had 2 less expensive coffee machines previously and they both died. Both were very noisy and made only reasonable coffee, this Breville machine is almost silent by comparison and the coffee richness produced can be pre-programmed into the machine so it comes out the same each time, just as you enjoy it.… Read more
I can admit 'L O V E' is a difficult word to admit to using with a coffee machine, but when you understand how they work and you use a good grinder and fresh beans these machines will make coffee better than you pay for at coffee shops
have had mine for in excess of 2 years, and just out of warranty had an electrical problem, Breville told me to return it and would be looked at, all done and returned with-out hassles - great company personal in Sydney. for the price - nothing
This machine is the best – I have just taken our machine in for repair - 5 years and had no problems ever. Looked like a switch and happened to be a short in the boiler. Repair guy said that he sees one or two a decade and no idea why. So I came to look for a replacement and after 5 years of perfect coffee will but another. Why dbills1951 can't get a good cup is beyond… Read more
me. Mid range Woolies beans, perfect cup everytime. I drink espresso and spend my life in café's drinking average to rubbish coffees that can't hide behinf milk and froth and sugar.
Give me an 800 ES. More to the point I must have one so I can make my wife her coffee in the morning so she can start her day! Everything especially it's simplicity. Turn it on it goes. It does what it says on the tin. Nothing - I just need two for when guests come around
Durability at its best – I was given this coffee machine as a gift 5 years ago and its never lost a beat makes a perfect coffee every time, runs rings around the opposition in durability and in price. you wont be disapointed reliable, inexpensive, energy efficient Show reply
Perfect if you know how to use it – Coffee: I think this machine is pretty good. I recently bought it and so far I always get good coffee. Froth: The cover of the steam wand needs to be removed to produce micro-foam froth. It takes a bit longer to froth the milk (maybe because the steam wand doesn't produce so much steam?). This link is very helpful for those who wants to learn… Read more

Good luck! Reasonable price, nice looking machine, makes good coffee A bit noisy and what is that pressure indicator for?
Great whilst it worked – Loved this coffee machine for the 2.5 years it worked. I used a quality burr grinder and bought fresh whole beans, this made terrific black espresso. Loved the semi automatic function so much easier in the morning when you are half asleep not having to count the pour. Also loved the pressure gauge which lets you know if you are over or… Read more
undergrinding your beans, until you get the grind just right. However like my old sunbeam semi it died within 3 years. Thank you extended myer warranty for once again refunding me the purchase price. Why can't these machines last!!. Great coffee Broke at 2.5 years
This could've been my review, except I didn't have an extended warranty - it was repaired 2 months ago and sounds like it's on it's way out again!
Makes Good Coffee – I've been using this Breville espresso machine. I tend to buy good quality fresh roasted coffee and use a burr grinder. I always get favourable comments from guests, even from those with more expensive coffee machines. It's fairly simple to use and if you get the grinds and the tamping right, let it warm up properly, the coffe comes out good.… Read more
It's very easy to use.
What I'm not so keen on is the "fake crema booster" technology they use. It's totally unnecessary if you use good coffee. The milk froth making is OK but you need to throw away the silly plastic sleeve on the nozzle. It tends to spit out a lot of water before the steam comes.
It's been quite reliable for me, with no breakdowns during a couple of years of use.
I bought it when it was both on special and they threw in a burr grinder free. It was a while ago but think it was 300 and something dollars at the time. Simple to use, effective, value A few unnecessary gimmicks (crema booster, plastic nozzle attachment), but nothing serious for the price

Bad – All 3 machines have operated quite differently. One was very noisey, the other didn't produce enough pressure (same coffee and tamping). The steam pump went on the first one in the first 2 months of use. Hesitant to get a 4th one as customer care don't really want to look at the problem they just keep asking us to exchange it. I really can't… Read more
believe that the same problem has now occured 3 times in as many months.
Once again, is anyone else experiencing the same problems? Being semi-automatic and having a long enough milk froth wand to heat without having to hold the jug. Doesn't always switch on when the power button is pressed or all of the lights come on suggesting that it is already heated. Obviously it isn't. This is the 3rd one we have acquired in the last couple of months each with the same problem.
I would really like to know if others are having the same problem as customer care suggest that they have never heard of it before yet we have encountered it 3 times now?
Mine blew up one month after the warranty ended and breville couldn't care less.
Good – I bought this on special ($100 off!) even though it was a little over my budget for a coffee machine to use mostly just on Saturday & Sunday mornings. But I'm happy I spent the money because the coffee is so much better than my (very) old machine. It certainly makes better coffee than the ones from the coffee shop I pick up my Monday to Friday… Read more · 1
morning coffee! Makes great coffee. Looks great, but doesn't take up too much bench space. Easy to set up & use and is easy to clean. Good size reservoir. Great frothing. It is a little bit noisy. Hard to achieve less frothy milk.
Terrible – Stay away from Breville, there are plenty of other brands out there to choose from at this price range. I am not sure what's worse their concept of the dual-wall i.e. "idiot-proof" filters or their customer service. It looks alright. Baskets do get clogged after a few months of regular use even by using the standard supermarket ground coffee.… Read more
Machine is also very loud - you are not going to make an early morning cuppa for yourself while the rest of your family is asleep.
Their customer service is a joke, seriously, and actually they are the reason that I am posting this review too. I called them up several times about the clogged hence useless baskets and in the end I gave up trying to talk to them and returned the machine to the retailer.
OK – A good machine that produces nice coffee and frothed milk. However, I will reserve judgement on the quality until we see whether the replacement machine performs OK Makes a good coffee with a nice crema and you get good quality, frothy cappuccino from the milk wand. Because I like very strong coffee I use the double shot program to make one cup… Read more
and it produces a satisfactory brew. We only got satisfactorily hot coffee by making sure our cups were VERY hot to start by heating them in the microwave before we made the coffee with even though we followed the instructions and ran the water through the brew head before making the coffee. Main problem was steam coming out the brew head and water dripping out of the hot water wand when we frothed the milk. Got in touch with Breville and they were very prompt with their response and have replaced the machine which was only 3 months old and still under warranty. We will wait and see how the new one performs. I did notice someone else on another site complained about the same problem with the steam.
Bad – Coffee machine looks great however the 2 month wait (so far) for a repair NOT replacement of a coffee machine that was defective from day one is very poor from Breville. Looks Good Overheated the first time it was used The Breville service centre is extremely slow and have not communicated any progress Breville customer support is extremely unsupportive
Excellent – It is so easy to set up to get the coffee I want. Other machines took me weeks of adjustments in coffee grind and tamper pressure before it was acceptable. A 2/5 year warranty is reassuring. High quality finish. Large capacity water tank and drip tray. The pressure guage is fantastic. It enables me to adjust my grind and tamper pressure to get the… Read more
perfect brew. Too high pressure and coffee is burnt. Too low and the brew is weak. My previous machines all spewed water out the top of the basket if I made the grind too fine or tamped too hard. The programmable buttons that measure the volume of water passing throught the head is terrific. I get the exact same coffee every time.
Good – This machine so far works very well. Very happy with its functional features & aesthetics. We purchased the model below this one for Christmas 2008 (ES800) including a bonus coffee grinder and bag of coffee beans $399.00. When using the steaming wand it lost pressure within a week and started to send out steam from the the front and back of the… Read more
machine. Obviously a leak in the pressure line. Breville customer service said to return it to the place of purchase and we went one model up to the BES820 becuase it was on sale for $430.00. Makes a good coffee. Great hot choclates (using the steamer) and tea (using the hot water wand). Heats water quite quickly The pressure gauge seems to be an indicator only that you can't control for when the machine is to express the coffee. But it seems to express coffee within the ideal pressure 'optimal' range. Drip tray indicator sometimes gets jammed and gives you a false reading that the tray is not full. But in fact its full and you can easily end up with it over flowing. Seems to consume alot of water for just one cup and if making more than a few cups at one time the water resvoir can run dry if your not paying attention which can damage machine apparently. As explained the manual the rational for the machine only using water at the ideal temperature only (below boiling temp) is one reason for the machine dispensing water to the drip try. Which is ok. Just pay attention to what the machine is doing and its no problem. A bit noisy but you can live with it.
Good – We put this on our bridal registry after speaking with the sales rep. The machine looks great and easy to use. Pressure pump is adequate for home use and we make quality coffee & hot chocolate everytime. The steam wand is a bit short so you can't use a 1L milk jug. Very easy to use & easy to clean. The tool tray under the water tank is useful to keep the accessories together. The steam wand could be a bit longer.
Good – I love this machine. It's my first espresso machine and I think it is a great introduction to the market. Also for when you get a bit more experienced you can play around with the extraction time etc. ' I was annoyed that the machine malfunctioned after just one month, but my dissatisfaction was alleviated at how easy it was to get a… Read more
replacement machine.
Overall, it's clear that Breville have cut corners on a couple of things (milk jug and tamp) but they are only minor issues in my opinion, and at the end of the day I really do love this machine! Looks great, easy to use, delivers great coffee for me every time. Two separate wands for hot water and steam is also excellent. The milk frothing jug that came with it doesn't have a spout which is useless for pouring, so I had to go buy a Sunbeam milk jug on the first day. Also after one month the pump malfunctioned and had to get it replaced. Fortunately, as I still had the receipt and it was under warranty, all I had to do was take it back to Myer and get a replacement. Much better than waiting a month for it to be fixed!
Also the tamp is pretty low quality, it's just a circular block on the back of the spoon (on the opposite end of the handle) so you can't apply anywhere near as much downward pressure as a cafe style tamp. It does the job for me satisfactorily, but I will be buying a proper tamp in the near future.

Good – This machine will look great on any kitchen bench. Since I managed to score a fantastic promo at a very low price, I'm glad I invested in this machine. I would recommend this to anyone. Great looking machine. I bought it from Myer and at that time they had a promo offering a free coffee grinder and coffee beans. After a period of time, I also… Read more
bought a matching coffee grinds bin. The machine is strong and produces a fine coffee. The steam wand is flexible and strong enough to produce a silky milk for your coffee. The pressure gauge does not appear to change and always points at the same level when water is pumped through the group head. Even when I changed the coffee grind to a fine, the pressure gauge did not go up. Not really a true indicator of the pressure, when coffee is extracted.
Excellent – Makes a great cup of expresso with a lovely crema every time. Also useful for instant hot tea due to the dedicated hot water wand. Overall so far a quality product that makes cafe quality coffee a breeze. Makes a great expresso, always with a lovely crema. Very easy to use once you get the hang of it. Parts seem to be very solid and thus… Read more
hopefully durable. Heats up extremely fast so minimal wait for a cup of coffee in the morning! The pressure guage seems to be for 'show' only as you can not manually choose at which pressure you extract the coffee. That said, it always seems to extract at optimum pressure anyway, so the coffee is always great. Sometimes when the machine is pumping (eg when frothing milk)the vibrations cause the water holding compartment to jiggle loose and open slightly.
Good – Overall a great machine that gives great service, it's quite, effecient and makes the best coffee just like the coffee shop ....no lie. I was spending $40 a week on lattes for my husband and I; when I thought a coffee machine would be a lot more economical in the long run. We choose The Breville 800 and has enjoyed it since that day. It makes the … Read more
perfect exprsso everytime and has extra hot water if antone wants tea. The price was good and the warranty gives you peace of mind. It's a bit time consuming to clean all those little parts.
