I have had the same problems as all these other reviewers. It toasts unevenly and is inordinately slow! For the $180 I paid, it's not worth the money. It was the only one available at the time with a crumpet setting. I have put up with it for three months and I'm taking it back today. But I noticed that none of these reviews has had a response from Breville. Don't they care?

Breville don't care - correct; their customer service is rubbish. I initially loved it but the inconsistency of toasting is damn annoying. I'm keeping mine purely as I like the size and the crumpet/ muffin setting otherwise I'd 'toast' mine as well.

Is the light on the side supposed to stay on even when you are not toasting?

Toast does not automatically pop up - stops cooking and the three buttons on side light up and flash? Is this normal?
