First time Claimer
I travelled to Peru last year and Budget Direct are one of the insurance companies that insure you if you are travelling in high altitude. Lucky I didn't need insurance for any altitude sickness or accident whilst on the Inca trail. On our way home, I lost my prescription glasses. I wasn't sure whether my travel insurance would cover the cost of them so I thought I'd put in a claim (first time ever on any insurance) and they were so easy to deal with and was paid (minus excess) within 2 weeks of submitting my claim. I am travelling to UK & Europe this year and I will be using these guys again. (p.s. Will you be covering the cost of cancelled flights if this Corona Virus is considered a pandemic?).
Maybe worth it
Buying the insurance was easy with online option. Competitive cost. Claim process is simple. However, I got cheated by Budget in 2 ways. I got paid $48 less, I checked conversion and yes $48 less. Then I was charged $200 access when I had no access policy by paying extra. As for flight claim, I am still waiting for the claim to be processed. I have sent numerous emails and called few times. I keep getting told, somebody would get back to me.
Disgusting, unprofessional, I was involved in a bag snatch in.the US and asked for advice , I was brushed aside , ignored and treated like I didn't exist...they were happy to take my.money but NOT HAPPY to assist when I needed it the most ... I was left high and dry ... Will never use this company again nor do I recommend.. currently dealing with the ombudsmen
Doesn’t cover cancelled flights
My partner and I missed our international flight home because a connecting domestic flight was cancelled due to a mechanical breakdown. We took a taxi for 12 hours on Indian roads but still missed the flight so we booked the next available flight with the same airline and and assumed we would be covered considering we paid for the most expensive ‘Comprehensive Insurance’.
But, we were told the flight and taxi fare are not covered in their premium package. I thought that was the whole point of travel insurance.
Worst Insurance Company Ever
I was overseas when my father urgently needed to go to the hospital due to serious health issues, which unfortunately resulted in his death, hours before my flight was to leave. Budget Direct refused my claim to compensate my lost flight despite having had comprehensive travel insurance.
Great value travel insurance
Easy to purchase, great value for benefits provided and it looks like the best on the market. Use it for overseas travel including sky activity. Fortunately for I did not have to use it.

Easy set up, simply , quick response, price reasonable, price camparison with the others, cover is very good value, did not make the claims , so no experience , nothing to say about the claim, overall goods, will use again.
Easy to work through
First time using Budget Insurance. Hopefully won’t need to use it. Will be reviewing cars/houses ins on return from overseas so will check you out Budget. Have 4 cars and 2 houses on same property

Good value if they were to actually help you with a claim. They use Too many loop holes to get out of paying. This was first time buying insurance from budget direct and never again. I should have read other reviews. At least it’s a good learning experience.

I purchased the comprehensive travel insurance after speaking with a Budget Direct consultant, I was guaranteed 24 hour emergency support and medical coverage for the duration of my trip, never believing I'd ever need it in any case.
I suffered a serious injury during my trip and contacted the emergency call centre, they never answered, I then made contact via web chat and was given an email address (yes an EMAIL ADDRESS) and told that someone would contact me.
I had no response from anyone in over TEN DAYS and that was just a totally uninte...rested "are you dead yet?" three line email they wouldn't even guarantee that if I sought medical assistance the bills would be paid (I was in a country where if you don't pay you don't get treated). When I outlined my condition and requested assistance I received NONE, every few days leading up to my departure back to Australia all I got were sporadic emails in response to further requests for assistance Budget Direct gave me NOTHING, I was just left to fend for myself no matter how many times I pleaded for help. My flight home was approaching and I had to organise my own evacuation back to Australia, when I finally received medical treatment it was found that the delay had caused a permanent disability, again when I contacted Budget Direct to lodge a claim they told me that now that I was back in Australia the policy DID NOT cover expenses incurred. During the whole saga the staff I dealt with wouldn't supply their names or location and wouldn't even confirm if they were male or female I have never encountered such a blatant fraud by any legitimate Insurance Company.

emergency assistance not helpful at all
although prices were the cheapest, there is not enough support for enquiries during the trip. Our flight was cancelled due to a mechanical problem and we called the emergency hotline for advice on any claims possible. However someone who picked up said today was a sunday and we will need to speak to someone the day after for proper advice. It is just not reasonable that we have to wait till a week day for an answer when something like this happens. I will not buy again, even though it's one of the cheapest options, it's simply not worth it when something happens. Pick a company which has reliable 24/7 customer assistance!

After purchasing the insurance for a long around the world trip. The insurance policy said only US. Rang to complain, to be told an IT issue and it'll be fine. Glad I insisted they reissue it with the countries explicitly outlined.
Unsurprisingly, lodged a car excess claim and was denied as it was outside the US.
Sent the revised insurance certificate I had to insist on.
Then told breached the terms and conditions for a hire company I did not use.
I have sent off to their Independent Dispute Resolution team. We'll see whether or not I'll have to higher up.
Fully comprehensive (not)
Beware when taking out fully comprehensive insurance with Budget Direct. I put in a claim for missing a flight because of a three hour delay and wont cover the cost of purchasing new flights

Budget by Name, Budget by service - steer clear
Policy was very easy to set up but it was only when I recently went to use policy whilst on holidays I ran into trouble.
I have travelled quite extensively and first time claiming any type of insurance.
Within two hours of arriving OS at our destination my knee collapsed on me. Being a resort island in the middle of nowhere there was not a hospital to attend. I tried to carry the injury for 3 days before seeing doctor on island who gave me a anti inflammatory tablet and heat pack.
I attempted to contact Budget and got hold of a chat perso...n who stated that he doesn't take claims but would note it on my file. I advised him I had trouble calling them from OS and could only contact him using WIFI. Upon returning to Australia on a Saturday I attempted to contact this insurance company but they only do Mon-Fri. Left a email for them to contact me.
Budget Direct Travel Insurance is fraud
It looks good when you first see their comprehensive travel insurance, but you will very quickly change your mind once you file a claim. They use every trick in book to delay your claim and it covers almost nothing. They make their own rules as they go along.

Why do you advertise and con people about your comprehensive policy when in fact it is not comprehensive at all. It basically covers nothing.
